Receding Tide is about the push and pull, the rise and fall of new relationships, the give and take that comes with jumping in headfirst. The poetry pieces in these pages are equal parts euphoric and gut-wrenching. She deftly explains the high of riding that wave, the soft kiss of something new before delving into the way it all sweeps out to sea, leaving you heartbroken and bereft.
This book feels more personal than her others. The reader gets front row seats as she navigates a budding relationship, the first talks and smiles, the sweet interactions, the swept-away feeling that comes with finding a little piece of happiness…a perfect seashell brought right to you on the shore. Then we see the tide pull out, taking with it the joy and hope it once brought in. We see the way it leaves behind a barren shoreline, a heart once full now empty. It takes a strong person to stand firm in the face of pain, to refuse to give in and be pulled out to sea.
