Overall I didn’t fully guess the big twist which is a great thing for me . There were a few big trigger things for me personally that made it hard to enjoy some parts. Other than that it is a good book but a bit of a slow burn which can make the first half feel long.
Alise R. Pulliam pulled this one off. I was pulled in from the beginning. Joelle and Kendra were definitely a force to be reckoned. I love that Love conquered all. I commend Emmanuel, we all need him in our lives. I enjoyed going through the journey with the ladies. Very emotional. This is a must read and I’ve already started recommending it. Nice work but I’ll be waiting for the next one.
The narration in this book is terrible. The characters never feel like real people, so there's no connection. The story goes off on tangents that have nothing to do with anything, there's unexpected time jumps. I kept reading to see what the twist was, which I figured out about 2/3 of the way through. Might haven given this 3 stars, but the ending was ridiculous and didn't fit what should have happened based on the characters' actions.
I fell in love with the characters! I wanted to be friends with crazy Kendra and felt sorry for Joelle. Although Emanuel and Joelle had a dysfunctional relationship, I was rooting for them and wanted it to work.
This is a very good mystery. For a novice novelist, Alise Pulliam shows skill and understanding of the genre. You might be thinking this is a women’s mystery fiction, but I would switch it around and call it a mysterious women’s fiction. The plot and character development transcends the classic women’s fiction and draws you into the mystery of two women, Joelle and Kendra. The story builds along parallel tracks of their relationships with men, business, and each other. The elements of a women’s fiction are upfront and recognizable, but the author does an excellent job of quietly building the mystery and suspense behind the words. In the very last minutes, as you are carefully walking in the dark, you realize the light ahead is a speeding freight train. And you are on the tracks in a tunnel. Surprisingly, after the train has run you over, you are glad to have taken the “ride”.
I have to admit, this book got me in the beginning, but unfortunately, I lost my interest until a little after the middle, but even then, I still couldn't connect. I'm not sure if the characters were not fully developed or if it was the plot, but in the end, I didn't care what happened to the characters even though I usually feel something in books with topics like this one has. Especially when it has a spectacular twist that I didn't see coming (like, seriously, it was a great twist). I have to admit I read and rotated with audible back and forth. I would like to blame that, but normally, when I do this, it keeps me in the book (fyi, don't get the audible, the reader is monotone which may have not helped). Something was just missing for me, but it is an easy book to read. I'm happy to see others did enjoy it.
Loved, Loved, Loved this book! The author did a great job of showing the complexity, strength and venerability of the human mind. The fact that the characters were not just good or bad was intriguing. Just like real life, people are a mixed bag, bad people sometimes do good thing and good people have moments of evil intent. This story was mysterious from the beginning until the end. I was able to connect to the vibe and setting, but I could not predict what the flawed characters would do next. The twist and turns of the storyline kept me completely engage. This book will go from novel to the big screen!
The book starts off strong, but then lulls for half the book as the author sets up the characters lives with nothing exciting happening. That being said, the last quarter of the book starts up again with a great twist I didn’t see coming.
3.5 ⭐ This book had me confused during the most part of it. The writing style didn't make sense to me until the end. And once I realized the "twist", it all "clicked" together. I ended up liking the book more than I thought I would.
The story moves along at a good pace and kept me turning the pages and the bizarre events surrounding Joelle kept me guessing until the end. An engaging thriller.
that was.... interesting?? I had a hard time with the typos and misplaced quotation marks. I think I'd have to reread knowing the ending though. That shocked me!!
Dull, meandering & pointless %20 in. I can count on one hand the number of books I don't finish, but this is one. I didn't care anything about these characters. Save yourself from this snooze fest
