In "Catmint Catastrophe," the 22nd installment of the bewitching "Familiar Kitten Mysteries" series, Kinsley's green thumb leads her into a thorny situation at the Coventry Gardening Competition. When Natasha Devon, a notoriously unscrupulous gardener, is found buried in her own poisonous plot, Kinsley and her feline familiar, Meri, must weed out the killer before they strike again. As she digs deeper, Kinsley unearths a tangled web of blackmail, jealousy, and deadly botanical obsessions that threaten to uproot the entire community. With a cast of eccentric gardeners, magical plants, and a dash of witty banter, this cozy mystery will keep readers guessing until the final petal falls. Will Kinsley manage to cultivate justice and bring the murderer to light, or will she find herself pushing up daisies? One thing's for this catmint caper is bound to be a blooming good read!
Sara Bourgeois is a Midwesterner through and through. She spends her time writing, reading, herding cats, and standing in her driveway during tornado warnings. (You can't see them from the basement.)
It is glaringly obvious that these past two books are not written by the author. The story and characters do not have their usual depth. There is repetitive character thoughts, descriptions, and actions. It practically feels like reading in a circle. I got halfway through this book and quit. So disappointed. I had loved this series so much.
This whole book is like Kinsleys family never existed. Not her parents, kids, or friends. It also seemed as though it didn't matter if everyone new about magic. This was just not any good.
This is more 3.5 *'s. Not because it's not well written, but more so because Kinsley doesn't seem to view herself as a problem in the beginning. She finds the body of the dead person when she GOES TO STEAL from them.... Like WHAT?! Anyway, the story itself was good. Twists and turns, etc. But I did not like Kinsley this book.
This one was a HUGE struggle to get through. I don't know what happened, but it seems like there just really isn't any heart in these stories anymore. I gobbled up the first 20, then the next 10 that were written were meh but still good enough for me to want to keep going. Then those were magically erased and are now being re-written, and I just can't. This and the last one were almost like torture to get through, so I think I'm done with these. I'm so sad because I really enjoyed this storyline.
This book is missing the character interaction and missing the tie-ins to Kinsley and friends' businesses, beyond cursory mentions. This book had a much more serious tone, a faster pace, and none of the character's "real life moments" interspersed throughout the novel, the way they usually would be. Perhaps Sara Bourgeois is going in a new direction in her writing style. I definitely prefer the previous style but I'm invested in the series so I will see how it goes. Perhaps it's an experiment.
This was bad. With the exception of the last chapter I’m pretty sure this book was written by AI.
Most of the characters weren’t present. There is a lack of creativity here- the whole book was going back and forth between suspects and nothing more. There is no depth to the characters and their personality is non-existent.
This series has been decent books that are quick reads but this was the worst.
This series has kept me up at night reading it was so entrancing. However, this particular book was almost like someone else wrote it. It was boring and repetitive. Not much story line. I finally just skimmed over the last 1/4 of the book. I hope the next one is better.
I did not like this book as much as the other books in this series- her family wasn’t present, her children, her friends- where did everybody go? Also, I felt she kept questioning everyone over and over
Well, I was a bit confused through this book. Stuff was repeated and seemed to be forgotten, then, repeated again? I don’t know how to exactly explain it. I just had a problem following along this time. Hopefully I’ll be better with the next book!
I have really been enjoying this series. However the last couple of books seem different. The tone has changed and the story lines seem off. Where are the kids and friends?
