After ten long years of peace, the Empress of the Star Continent is restless. Determined to unite her world under one crown, Thorn Holdfast casts her gaze further afield, to the Allied Worlds, as she strives to create the greatest Empire ever seen. Her chosen successor, Kyra Holdfast, views the Empress as a paragon of virtue, and loves her more than she loves her own mother. All that will change when she comes to realise the full extent of Thorn’s ambitions. Kyra’s twin brother Cael no longer feels his life is his own to control. Moved constantly around the Star Continent by order of the Empress, his sole consolations are the worlds he has been creating with the Sextant. Little does he know how dangerous his new obsession will become. As the Holdfast twins reach adulthood, they must face up to the secrets that have warped their lives, and their deepest desires…

About Me
I love deserts, which is too bad as I live in Scotland, but the mountains, glens and lochs more than make up for it. My other love is Greek Tragedy, especially Euripides, and I also read history, science, fantasy, and pretty much anything about the Beatles…

ARC Review: In Creator of Worlds we have fast-forwarded ten years - ten years since we last visited the worlds of the Magelands Dominion series'. Okay, if we align our timelines, it's only been a few months since CMs last book in the series but - moving on.
A lot of things have changed over those years and not all in a good way. Karalyn's twins, Kyra and Cael, are now 17 and stretching towards adulthood. Karalyn's absence in their younger, formative years has had an impact that seems impossible to overcome. Most if not all of the characters that we've met over the series (or rather, who have survived) make an appearance and it felt like a family reunion. (You know, some you welcome with hugs and others you avoid if possible - cough Thorn cough.)
I really loved this addition to the ongoing story and, although I tend to use this phrase with every new CM book, it IS my favorite so far. I found myself laughing out loud, crying, shouting NO a few times and even cursing a time or two. CM really had me really worried near the end of the book but... oops, no spoilers. There are hints of things to come in future books that left me a bit apprehensive- not all in a fun way. This book/series has everything that I love in a fantasy: dragons, unusual magic, family, love, loyalty, dragons. How is it possible for Christopher Mitchell to outdo himself with every new book he releases? Very well done, indeed!
We are back on the Star Continent and 8 years have passed since Karalyn and Sable brought Arrosa, Lahnos, Sigum and the Bullan to start anew on this world. Life seems pretty boring for most of the Holdfasts but the twins are now on the verge of 18 and seem to be just like their parents. I enjoyed the character development of Cael and Kyra now that they are old enough to speak for themselves. I was also excited to get to know Cole better as well as see how Arrosa has faired for herself now that she has a family again. Dragons from different worlds interact and we see Lahnos contemplate having a relationship again. The Bullan are happy to serve the Empire of the Sapphire Throne but not everyone is aligned with Thorn's politics and choices. Thorn is my personal least favorite character across the entire series and I only wish Keira were still around to address some of the behavior!! You will find allies and enemies and peoples from all worlds living on the Star Continent. It seems a similar military group from Sanang could be compared to the sons of Sanang and it is definitely troublesome. What will The Sapphire throne's ambitions mean for The City, Athumia, and Dragon Eyre? I cannot wait for the next installment that will surely continue the beginnings of a true imperium. Highly recommended!!
Creator of Worlds: An Epic Fantasy Adventure (The Magelands Dominion Book 7), my twenty-eighth read from prolific author Christopher Mitchell, 446-pages of epic fantasy. It’s been 4 months since reading Tempest's Edge: An Epic Fantasy Adventure (The Magelands Dominion Book 6), and I hadn’t realized how much I’d missed the Holdfasts and their world. With 44 books published over 4 inter-conncted series it's no wonder that when I want to read epic fantasy I first look for Christopher Mitchell. I look forward to reading more from this him, in fact Palace of the Almighty: An Epic Fantasy Adventure (The Magelands Dominion Book 8) is already on my TBR list and it won't be published until November of this year. “I received a Kindle copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review." The gifting of this book did not affect my opinion of it. (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 - July 24, 2018).
If you haven’t read any of Christopher’s books I would highly recommend you give them a go. You will be whisked away into a world of excitement, intrigue, and adventure with interestingly complex characters.
For those of you familiar with Christopher’s work… I was so pleased to see some characters from the Magelands Dominion series merge with the worlds and characters of the Magelands series. Years have passed and the children are teenagers/young adults and characters have settled into their lives. This all brings a different dynamic and new era. Great story development, twists and adventure. I can’t wait for the next one.
He's done it again!!!. An enthralling book by the amazing author Christopher Mitchell. I was looking forward to reading what happens in the Magelands series as it was all coming together and I certainly wasn't disappointed. I love the characters. I love Karalyn and to see her family grow is wonderful. The family grows closer with each page. I have a vision to where this book is leading in the series conclusion but i wonder if I'll be right and there are so many twists and turns. Once i started this book i could not put it down!! Well done once again!
Absolutely fantastic to be back on the Star Continent again with all the usual characters, Chris is slowly bringing the Magelands world to a close (sob) and this excellent read kicks things off in his usual brilliant fashion. I can’t wait to read the next one. *I received an Arc copy direct from the author.
The Creator gets in a bind. His sister learns what the empress is "really" like, And The Empresses Right Hand needs a break. This Holdfast Family must come together to save the Family ,The Star World ,And the Empire..The Dragon's , Magic, And Magical entities once again make for an awesome read. I am an Honest ARC reviewer,This is a great series.
Still one of my favorite authors. This was a welcome addition to my collection of Mr.Mitchell's books. I'm a big Holdfast fan and this just was a pleasure go read. One more book and it will all end I'm sad to even think about it.
The imagination for this gloriously epic series is out of this world! It boggles the mind in the best kind of way. Following this series has been an absolute pleasure. Christopher Mitchell is one hell of a writer!
A great start to a new chapter of The Magelands Saga. It's like meeting up with old friends. I read it in 2 sittings. I highly recommend The Magelands.
Another great book in the Magelands Series. I love that a sci-fi book has Scottish references. Looking forward to the next book coming out in November.
