If your sister went missing and her abductor started sending you clues... what would you do?
When Ellie's twin Freya goes missing, Ellie will do anything in her power to save her. But the police are convinced there's no foul play.
They don't know about the ghosts, secrets and lies lurking in the family's past. After all, the fire changed everything but they've never told another living soul outside the family what really happened that night.
So when Ellie starts receiving messages from her sister's abductor, and she realises just how much danger Freya is in, she doesn't tell the police. She decides to face them alone.
Will Ellie be able to outrun the lies of their past and save her sister?
KJ Reed is an English indie author who writes primarily dark, psychological fiction. Although she is an English author, KJ writes America-based fiction since her love for all things dark and twisty comes from growing up watching and reading American TV and fiction. She lives with her amazing husband and stereotypically nightmarish ginger cat, Milo and has loved writing since she could put pen to paper.
I was gripped from the very first page! This is a dark and twisted tale - so be sure to check the trigger warnings if necessary. There are dual timelines and the story unfolds via multiple viewpoints, but it's clear where you are and who with from chapter to chapter. It's fast paced, and takes you on quite the emotional rollercoaster, I stayed up until the early hours to finish this one. Huge thanks to the author for providing me with an arc ebook, I look forward to reading more from you in the future.

My opinion: Reed pens an action-packed thriller with some unexpexted shocking twists! The short chapters and multiple POV made for an easy, quick read. I've been addicted to all books with twins ever since Sweet Valley High, and this novel puts a major deviation on the usual twin story. I have never read a novel with a killer with this mode of operandi and found it to be extremely intriguing and disturbing (in a good way). Personal preference- I didn't care for the cursing, especially characters using God’s Name in vain. I found the changes in timelines to be a little confusing at times, but I was able to eventually figure it out. KJ definitely needs an editor for all the typos, but they did not affect the storyline. Overall, I was entertained by this story and would recommend it to anyone who enjoys killer thriller novels. #bookstagram #arcreader #booklovers #thrillerbooks #booktok #twins #april2025adoptanaurhor #KTAuthorMasterList
Wow, the first page of this book is dark! The whole book is so dark and twisty! Check the trigger warnings if there are some topics you don’t like to read about. There is a warning before you start the book.
I really enjoyed the story it’s told from different points of view and through different periods of time, but comes together really well. The characters mostly are not very likeable but they’re not meant to be really. There’s plenty of dysfunctional family dynamics at play here.
I finished the book in 24 hours so it’s definitely a gripping read and the pacing was good and kept me interested all the way through!
I did not see the ending coming at all, but I was shocked, that is all I will say. The story is finished but it’s definitely not over, I’m hoping there will be a sequel, I really want to know what happens and need a little more closure. But I did love the ending just because it was so unexpected and definitely didn’t follow the usual formula.
I would definitely recommend the book, especially if you prefer your crime thrillers a little bit more visceral, great for fans of Karin Slaughter, the story was gripping and kept me wanting to know more right the way through.
Oh my gosh !!!!! I loved this book so many twists, plots all along the way and I certainly never imagined such an ending. I didn’t care much for Freya and Ellie was such a strong character. Would love to read more by this Indie author

this was one hard to put down book. It gripped me from the very first page, 4 chapters in and I was absolutely 100% hooked! This story had me guessing all the way through, I had theories on theories on theories with the author giving just enough clues and twists to have me constantly guessing!
One of the Dalloway Twins goes missing and it's up to her sister Ellie and detective Dawson to peice together clues to figure out what has happened. It's only a matter of time until the secrets they've kept and the lied they've told come to the surface, but will it be in time to save anyone
⚡️Keeps You Guessing
⚡️Shocking Twists
⚡️Cant put it down
⚡️Unexpected ends
⚡️Check those triggers
This is exactly what you want from a thriller. It's dark and twisty but with great grit and intelligent thinking that allows you to peice together the clues yourself (whether youre right or not). It was such an enjoyable read that hit too close to reality and the depravity of the world that it's got me needing to turn on all the lights just to go to the bathroom. I can't wait to see what KJ Reed comes up with next! A++
I’m sorry but how could this book, make me spiral, give me so much rage I wanted to throw my kindle at anything humanly possible and no it’s not from the writing in this masterpiece of a book but the sheer audacity of the characters in this book. I’m sorry the ENDING, yep that sent me into a deeper spiral. Even when I discovered who no one was and to be honest I was so absorbed in this book I didn’t want to figure out the plot, I didn’t want to live in society I just wanted to devour the book. And that is 100% what I did, but yes when I found out who no one was ok I thought yes I can have some peace in my life now after the sheer audacity of unhinged thoughts and processes from the start, I then read the epilogue 🙂😬🫠yep that just exceeded my spiral. This book needs to be read from all thriller lovers who love unhinged plot twist but also just really good book because I will be shouting this book as recommendation to everyone who will listen.
A really good dark storyline with very little love in the life of the main character. I enjoyed the narcissistic mother/daughter storyline, it’s refreshing to see this conveyed more in media. Overall I enjoyed the book and would recommend, however what felt like a few minor plot holes (not massively significant to the story just the timeline in places) meant I was occasionally pulled out of the drama and is the reason for 4/5
What a great thriller that kept me guessing! Sometimes multiple POVs can get tricky for me, but I found it worked really well for this book, and I really enjoyed hearing the mystery unfold from every angle. I admired Ellie's strength throughout the book and her determination to get answers, despite the complicated relationship she had with her missing twin sister Freya. I definitely look forward to reading more from this author!
This book was captivating, emotional, and fun to read. I’ve been looking for a good thriller for a while and this was exactly the book I was looking for. I couldn’t put it down. The twist and turns were very well executed and unpredictable. I tried guessing multiple times who it was but i was wrong everytime. Reed has a way of making the characters feel real and has your heart racing when they’re in intense situations. I was rooting for the characters all throughout the book.
**spoilers ahead** One thing I hate about thrillers is all the ones I’ve read seem to have happy ends but this one the ending shocked me but i LOVED IT. BECAUSE the bad guy won. It was unexpected but I definitely enjoyed it! I can’t wait to read more books from K. J. Reed in the future!!

This is the first book I've read from this author and I can't wait to try another one. While I figured out who the culprit was, the pacing of this book kept my attention clear through the end!
A new indie author to me and what a wild ride! I was instantly drawn to this story due to there being identical twins but they don't have a good relationship.
I hated the mother with a passion. How a mother could love one daughter more than the other is heartbreaking.
The ending was much darker than I expected. But I loved this story from start to finish.
Highly recommended for lovers of dark psychological thrillers mixed with a crime thriller for a missing person.
My favourite book of the year! This book had me hooked from page one, with so many twists and turns. Amazing read! I can't wait to see what this author comes up with next!
A dark, fast moving and twisty thriller. I kept turning page after page wanting to know who the killer was. The motives and the methods of the killer were so well executed (pardon the pun!) If you like your thrillers full of triggers and bleak as hell then this is the one for you!
An absolutely wicked read. I love a good book with twists and turns. Add a dash of “did they really just do that” and you’ve got yourself one dark psychological thriller. This is a multiple-POV book, which I absolutely love because we get to see the journey the author takes us on in different perspectives.
I have read thrillers, and I must say this one is an absolute page-turner. KJ Reed is an exceptional storyteller who has an incredible eye for this genre. If you hate a character with a passion because of their behavior and actions, that means the author did an amazing job crafting them. If you didn’t expect that plot twist, another cheers to the author. This is fabulous.
Very much looking forward to future works by KJ Reed.
One of the best psychological thrillers I've read. A wonderfully well written book and is very refreshing for this genre compared to the stereotypical thriller, I couldn't put it down. Highly recommended for anyone who enjoys a spine-tingling read that will linger long after the final page is turned.
This is the first book I have read from this author. I do recommend that she hire a new proofreader. With that being said, I love this book. I was guessing who the culprit was throughout the whole story. The errors were distracting; however, the descriptions of the characters and plot were all excellent. I would recommend this book!
If you're looking for a properly wild thriller, this is for you! Super twisty, creepy villain and so many puzzle pieces! I would have liked there to be more consistency in how the memories or other timelines were presented. 3.5 stars
I absolutely loved this story! All the plots were tied together so well and the unconventional ending was absolutely brilliant! It kept me guessing until the very last chapter. I also loved the multi-perspective chapters as they really helped me feel immersed in each character's world. And the short, fast-paced chapters were perfect for keeping the suspense at an all-time high. As a reader who craves originality, this book was a breath of fresh air. Thank you for taking such creative risks! I can't wait to see what you come up with next in your planned sequel.
