Excellent 1st book in this history of the comics series. Wonderful place for a beginner to start learning about the history of this unique American literature art form or for a more knowledgeable person to broaden their knowledge. Tons of vintage pictures to go with the well researched history. Very recommended.
This topic of interest quickly became my #1 curiosity when I heard about the regulations inflicted on horror comics in the mid 1950s. This booked provided a very thorough and enthusiastic history of horror comics during that period. This book itself is broken down into chapters separating horror topics such as vampires; werewolves; and Godzilla.
Reading a whole book dedicated to the history of horror comics along with some of the most controversial comic strips shown in bold, colorful pictures really fulfilled my curiosity on the horror comic genre. It also enlightened me to the fact that just like in assigned English novels in high school, every comic theme had their own correlation to traumatic real life events from that time.
Fun quick read that takes you on a crash course of the history of horror comics. No subject or era is delved into too deeply but at the end you get a nice general idea of how the medium progressed and why.
