Re:ZERO -Starting Life in Another World-, Vol. 24
THANKS FOR THE MEMORIES…
Subaru has forgotten almost everything that happened since he first came to this strange new world, and he still has no idea why. The only thing he knows for sure is that if he doesn’t figure out what’s going on soon, he and his friends are going to die horribly in this danger-filled tower. There are hungry archbishops, a living legend, and even a giant scorpion skulking around. Worse, they still haven’t made any progress with the examination. Subaru’s only hope may be in the Taygeta archive, where the memories of untold millions lie within the books of the dead…

some genuinely cool ideas, but the volume is far too circular, and doesn't progress the contrived trouble the gang has run into nearly enough.
in volume 24, you endure loop after loop of the same events and fights occuring, with few differences, often dragged out far too long, and filled with paragraphs on paragraphs of circular, unproductive prose. whether it's meant to fill the pages, or is simply there due to the tight deadlines Tappei must meet, I don't know. but this all gets very frustrating to read.
it's in a weird position - stuck between the previous conflict establishing novel, and the one following this which concludes the arc and answers many of the questions raised throughout. THIS volume does little of either, and actually ends up dampening the eventual reveals in the final one due to the tear-worthy amount of pages dividing promise and payoff.
it's not even like he hasn't done this kind of thing before; Arc 4 had loop after loop after loop, several volumes of events all contained within a few days in-world, and it was utterly fantastic - or it was in the show, at least (they likely cleaned up his writing.) but between the first and final page of this book, despite a few genuinely powerful character moments, it truly feels as though we've moved barely anywhere at all.
overall: it's decent!

Maldito Arco 6

The quest to recover missing memories continues. Return by death really makes these conflicts drag on forever. Thankfully next volume is the end of arc 6, I believe. That being said I did enjoy this volume.

Really good volume, Things are really coming to an end in this amazing arc next volume. The corridor of memories scene with Louis was interesting and Meilis backstory was really good as well as her change of heart and Reid is nuts. Really excited to see how things end next volume

It's really fun. Subaru diving into the lives of other people's memories, progressively blending his own personality with theirs and learning to understand each other's needs and wants, especially someone as enigmatic as Meili, it's fun. The disastrous situation he can't seem to get out of really feels like a videogame, though. It's sort of lacking the typical mental anguish he's supposed to be going through, considering the writing. It glosses over and writes a summary, which is fun, but kind the wrong vibe here. The big reveal of what's happening with Reid is sick, too.

Insane volume. Love Louis and her bros, the way their powers work is really cool. Cant believe this arc is wrapping up in one more book.

Back to the torture scene lol, 20+ death in this loop only. Dear God, Tappei is monstrous TwT, anyway what an opening. Again and again, Emilia save Subaru soul literally. Got cried there a bit haha
