Steadfast

Rate this book
Since stepping away from her family’s popular megachurch, Oakleigh Davenport has begun to rebuild her life at Callaway Ranch. Her booming social media influence has flooded the sleepy town of White Bridge with crowds and turned the little coffee shop into a destination. Despite the guidance from her Aunt Maeve and her developing relationship with her cute cowboy, fitting into rural life has proven more difficult than expected for the former heiress as she wrestles with figuring out just where she belongs.

While navigating the grief after the loss of her husband, Maeve Callaway is facing storms of her own. As her friendship with Dallas deepens, she takes on the pressures of encouraging Oakleigh in her newfound faith, running the ranch, and holding the family together. Through it all, Maeve is pouring from an empty cup.

As they navigate the howling winds of change, and the deluge of challenges, will their faith be pressed to the limit?

Come what may, there’s certain to be a warm, crackling fireplace and a fresh mug of coffee waiting on the stove at Callaway Ranch.

Perfect second book in this series (because yes, Amy, there BETTER be a book 3!)

I loved how real these characters felt. We see Maeve, a lifelong Christian and perceived as a solid leader on her ranch, struggling with loss and how to pour from her empty cup after losing her husband very unexpectedly at a young age. And Oakleigh, despite growing in her faith, still struggled to walk the walk rather than just talk the talk like her parents taught her at her father’s mega church (read Boundless for full background).

This book is like a well-written, faith soaked, soap opera with grit, drama (but not too much!), and family dynamics that you can’t help but want to get lost in.

There is so much to this book and both of these stories. The romance is light but still there and oh so sweet, and the faith is solid—just like it was in Boundless.

If you’re looking for a contemporary read with grit and grace, check out Boundless and Steadfast.

3.5 ⭐️ rounded up! A reminder that for me this is not a bad review! I enjoyed book 1, Boundless, so so so incredibly much and this one just didn’t have the same pacing I loved from the first. Although I was expecting that, book 1 just blew me out of the water whereas I didn’t have the same feelings for this one and was hoping for it. I still LOVE these characters and cannot wait to see how this series continues! These stories and characters just feel so incredibly real.

Steadfast takes us back to the small town of White Bridge, Montana for another view of our beloved Callaway Ranch. There, we see that Maeve is still making her infamous "cowboy coffee," just the way everyone likes it, and Oakleigh is learning the value of working for everything you have.

These two women's POVs throughout this tantalizing tale were a refreshing viewpoint we didn't know we needed. It was refreshing to hear from characters who weren't "the main couple" but each of these women's roles were vital for this story and the plot.

Their struggles, their triumphs, and their growth were all too relatable, making their character arc a journey we could all empathize with. While there is plenty of clean, swoon-worthy moments that sweep you oft your teet, and cowboy kisses that give you butterflies, the heart of the story lies in these two women and the growth of their hearts and lives as they strive towards Christ.

This Christian Romance novel was more than just a good read, but a profound source of inspiration for me. Seeing each character learn and grow, even while they are fictional, served as a powerful reminder of the transformative power of faith. It encouraged me in my own journey of faith and trust in God's ultimate plan. There are no elicit surprises or swear words you have to blot out. This book is deeply grounded in the Christian faith, and you would really be missing out if you pass it up.

Can I just live on the Callaway Ranch? I adore this family and this series. This is book two and it makes more sense if you've already read book one, Boundless, to learn all the family dynamics. And believe me, a lot is going on with these characters.

What I love most about this book is it shows that just because someone turns their life over to Christ, doesn't mean they are automatically perfect. Sanctification doesn't happen overnight, it takes time. And a lot of grace. These characters are raw and real and I just love them for it.

This women's fiction will pull you into Maeve and Oakleigh's lives as they learn to navigate the different seasons of life they've found themselves in. Maeve, as she learns to deal with her grief. Oakleigh, as she tries to find her place in her new life while growing in her faith.

This book has strong faith, grit and grace, sorrow and healing, love and hurts, and so much more.

I loved this book. It was a great sequel to Boundless—which was awesome. I love the Callaway Ranch, especially Maeve! And her whole sweet family. Well, sweet and sour at times. Like the rest of us. This book is real life. It talks about real issues that real people deal with. It talks about learning to love and trust the Lord with all you got, even through trials and temptations.

This quote right here is wisdom we could all be reminded of:
“Maeve’s tone softened as she gently reminded her, as she often did. ‘Stop comparing yourself to everyone else, Oakleigh, and start looking to Jesus.’”

I’m looking forward to how this story continues! There’s been so much character growth already and the plot just keeps thickening!

(I was given a complementary copy of this book. No positive review was required. All opinions are my own.)

"Don't let weeds grow in the cracks they left behind and ruin the garden God has planned for you."

Reading Steadfast felt like visiting old friends at Callaway Ranch. I could smell the coffee and feel the warmth of Maeve's fireplace. That's when you know it's going to be a great read! Like the first book, Steadfast is all about God's grace and how it can heal our wounds. I really enjoy Amy's writing because the characters are realistic and their growth doesn't happen instantly. It makes the triumphs that much sweeter.

I highly recommend reading this book! I think it would be a great Netflix series.

2.5 stars. I can’t remember the last time it took me this long to finish a fiction book. I think the problem was I went in thinking this would be a book about Mia but it’s about Maeve and a lot of Oakleigh again. These are def not stand alone books. It is a continuation from the previous book. There’s nothing wrong with any of it. Just kind of dragged on for me and was easy for me to put down for days at a time. I wasn’t really a fan of the end either. I felt like it threw in an unnecessary conflict instead of dealing with all the previous conflicts in the book. Like none of those conflicts were solved by the end of the book. It also again really lacked in the romance department the same as a felt with the other book.

So I was trying SO hard to wait for the audio for this one but I just couldn’t wait! I loved learning more about Maeve’s background during this book. We also saw lots of character development and growth from main character Oakleigh, as well as times where she faltered. There are some characters in this book that you can’t help but dislike (HARPER is the worst!) but I liked seeing how Maeve and Oakleigh deal with the challenges of being around Harper. I definitely recommend reading the whole series as they’re quick reads and one book really leads into the next. I’ve already started the third and know I’m going to love it as well. There’s love, growth, self discovery, dealing with the past, all mixed in with a side of cowboys and coffee. I love it!

Love Love Love! This is by far the best read read of the year! I love this series and I've grown to genuinely care about these characters like they're true friends. They feel real and relatable. They're struggling through complex emotions and situations and they process through their issues in a way that feels reasonable and is so endearing. This author has crafted a great story line, sweet romance, an excellent portrayal of difficult family dynamics, and so much more. I want so badly to sit down with Maeve and Oakleigh to have a cup of cowboy coffee and a homemade cinnamon roll with them.
P.S. Why do I love Lil Slim so much?! He might just be the best character of them all!

I liked this book, and I love the Montana (and coffee) setting! The first in the series covered church hurt, and this dealt more with family and the aftermath of the first.
It delves into Maeve and Oakleigh once more. My four star (-1 complaint), is because I was *really* hoping Oakleigh’s influencer ways and phone addiction would be a bit less. However, there was character growth.

It felt like the author left it open for a third, because things didn’t feel totally resolved.

Steadfast, wow, wow, wow. This book is full of everything, How can a mother love her child but abuse her? Why? How can what should have love you, treat you well, be the one to continue bringing you down and make you very uncomfortable, unhappy? Steadfast shows what love should be, how can can bring things out of nothing. I'm a little heartbroken for everything she has been going through.

Thank you, Amy Caldwell, you really did will with this series.

This book was SO good! Like so good. To me, it was more emotional than the first one. And I love a good emotional book. These books are so authentic and make you feel like you know the characters in real life. I am super excited to read book 3, Relentless! Can't wait to see how some of the relationships/characters continue to unfold. I LOVE this series and have recommended to so many people!

10/10 - Read it, you will enjoy it!

Who doesn’t love reading about church “drama”, cowboys, faith and finding yourself!

A book that takes us on Oakleigh’s journey through pain and aligning herself to God’s will. Loved so many of the characters for different reasons. Amy’s storytelling keeps you locked in! I’ve read each book within a 24 hour period!

I enjoyed the book but then i feel like we didn't need too many flashbacks on maeve. But i learnt alot from this book. It reminds me of James 1:3 that you know the testing of your faith produces steadfastness.

I have truly gotten hooked on this series and love that the first book was so great that Caldwell decided on a 2nd and 3rd book.
I’ve loved watching Oakleigh overcome so much and kind of related to her on the loss of her parents at a young age, though she doesn’t lose them in a physical sense. Maeve is always there to help point her back to Jesus in the toughest moments but at Maeve’s weakest moments I loved watching Oakleigh step up and pick Maeve up when she needed it most after the final piece of Abel is taken from her.
There are some tough topics covered in this book and can be triggers for some and even had a hard time at times but Caldwell handles these with ease and grace. Her writing is so heart warming and I look forward to the third book to see Oakleigh continue offering grace and doing her best to pick up puzzle pieces of her broken relationships back home with her mom. I hope her relationship with Harper and Paisley can be mended.

OVERALL STAR RATING: 5/5
CLEAN RATING: 5/5

To say I’m happy to have discovered Amy Caldwell’s work is a complete understatement. Her writing has floored me! I recently read Boundless and knew I had to pick up book two ASAP and let me tell you, equally as impressive. Not only is she not afraid to tackle raw and gritty topics, but she writes in such a way that absolutely sucks you into her stories. Her words are incredibly descriptive and immersive. You’re going to ache, but also rejoice for her characters and their development – all bound together by strong elements of Christian faith.

Highly advised that you read Boundless before Steadfast so that you understand the journey of these incredible characters. In this book we continue to watch former heiress and socialite Oakleigh Davenport rebuild her life over on Callaway Ranch with her Aunt Maeve. Maeve is a widow and although she has a strong exterior, on the inside she’s struggling and fighting the personal battle of grief. When she starts having romantic feelings for her best friend, Dallas, it kickstarts an even deeper level of grief and guilt within her heart. She’s spiraling mentally but doesn’t want to be a burden to Oakleigh or anyone else, so she keeps her feelings bottled up inside. She’s slowly cracking and Amy’s writing is going to have you tearing up over the complexity of it all.

On one hand you have Oakleigh, although raised as a pastor’s daughter, she’s actually new to her faith. And then you have Aunt Maeve, a long-time believer, but keeping the faith isn’t always easy. I loved seeing these different viewpoints and watching these two women pour into each other in such a unique and beautiful way.

Trigger Warning: This story dives into the topic of grief after the loss of a spouse. There are traumatic car accident scenes and mentions of miscarriage.

AMAZING!! Loved Steadfast so much!! Jumping right back into Callaway Ranch with all of my favorite characters from Boundless was so much fun! I loved the continued journeys of these characters in this book. My favorite was definitely the more in depth love story of Abel and Maeve. Maeve’s grief story was rich and relatable. I again loved the Biblical truths weaved throughout the story! I really really appreciate the emphasis on legacy discipleship. Who are we following after (and are they following Christ) and who is following us? The example of Ruth discipling and pouring into Maeve and then Maeve into Oakleigh. We all need that in our own lives.

Favorite quotes in Steadfast that really convey the theme: “Don’t let weeds grow jn the cracks they left behind and ruin the garden God has planned for you - and he’s got a plan for you, Maeve.” “Put your trust in him, Maeve. He’s the only one who won’t ever let you down.”

Thanks for inviting us all back to Callaway Ranch Amy! Can’t wait to visit again!!

LOVE

Just like in Boundless, Amy had me flipping pages furiously the last half of the book seeing how it all unfolded. Once again, Amy knocked it out of the park in her character development, drama, and seamlessly weaving in themes of God’s redemption, grace, and faithfulness through out the pages. After reading Boundless, jumping into Steadfast felt like I was visiting a familiar old friend and I settled right back into Callaway Ranch. Most importantly, I appreciated how Amy demonstrated good growth in her characters, but reminded us all that sanctification is a lifelong process that can ebb and flow as people face trials and heartache. Lastly, I love how we get to see a vulnerable side of a grief-stricken Maeve. It made me love her character all the more and seem so human and relatable. Amy has a gift for writing and I hope we get more time at Callaway Ranch in the future!
