Working with God Through Prayer

Rate this book
Working with God Through Prayer by D. Edmond Hiebert presents the nature and privilege of working with God through intercessory prayer. Modern Christians have long been encouraged by reminders and testimonies that prayer works. But have modern believers forgotten the work of praying? Have we lost an awareness of our responsibility to “stand in the gap” and the Lord’s sobering commands regarding prayer? Hiebert discusses the costly consequences of ignoring and neglecting prayer and brings us back to the essential exercise, fruitful ministry, and striking simplicity of intercessory prayer.

This book helped to clarify some of my thoughts on the effectiveness of prayer.

I especially benefitted from Hiebert's conception of prayer as a three-step process:
1. God invites us to pray. This invitation is found throughout Scripture.
2. We respond to this invitation by coming to his throne with our prayers.
3. God responds to our prayers with his answers.

Thus, prayer is working with God as it is a two-sided operation.

This is possibly the best book on prayer I have read so far. Excellent.
