Based on his design, the Norwalk Hydraulic Press Juicer was developed. This juicer continues to be produced and sold today. Walker wrote several books on nutrition and healthy living.
Oftentimes it is obvious at first glance that a so-called health book is pseudoscientific quackery. Other times I have to start reading it to tell and when that happens I find myself making excuses for it until it becomes undeniable quackery. In the latter case I am often suspicious before I decide, but every time I am suspicious my suspicions are born out. That was the case with this book. First, I was suspicious before I even started reading because I understood that the author would prescribe colonic irrigation for virtually any ailment that might afflict one. My excuse was that specialists are, of course, going to emphasize the virtues of their specialty and bypass other considerations with the best of intentions. Then my suspicions were increased when I started reading and noticed that the author kept making references to cosmic vibrations and god. As for the cosmic vibrations, my excuse was that authors often make pretty free use of metaphoric writing. Properly that should be used to clarify, but all too often it is used to impress or to deliberately obscure to make the point seem mysterious and revelatory. Metaphor does not necessarily mean that it is incorrect though. As for god, there are actually physicians who have religious convictions and yet practice scientific medicine that is helpful and not harmful despite the religion. The religion still increased my suspicions though. What really clinched my suspicion of quackery, though, was when he started to deny that viruses cause colds. In fact, he strongly implies that he does not even believe in the existence of viruses. After that I had to take everything with a very large grain of salt, but I continued to read anyway. The rest of the book is filled with much misinformation, but that misinformation is mixed in with enough truth to give it credibility. I will not ttry to remember every false statement to repeat them here, but I would advise reading something based on real science for your health advice.
Well, Norman W. Walker died at the age of 99. So he must have done something right. Right?
My biggest problem with this book is that on almost every page it recommends colonic irrigation. And it's supposed to be the holy grail to treat all illnesses.
If you have:
Cancer? ... colonic irrigation. Depression? ... colonic irrigation. Kidney, heart, liver, lungs or testes issues? ... You guessed it. ... colonic irrigation.
Some of the premises don't make any sense and there is no evidence for the claims - removed tonsils as a cause of melancholia ?!?
I didn't mind the book as I agree with the main premise - healthy colon is really important and can probably prevent various diseases (especially auto-immune).
But this is 21st century - we already know that and there are much better ways to clean your colon in top shape.
Probably the most shamelessly advertising medical book I've ever read before. The fact that it praises colon irrigation at least twice in every page isn't exactly a good thing. It was simply horrific.
This is a great book about one the most important organs of the body and how it relates to all the other organs. Its amazing how much we overlook the health of the colon, I know I have for a long time, especially since so much of our health relates to it. Norman Walker writes with lots of care not only for the body but he looks at the metaphysical aspects too. A great health book.
As books on bowels go, this one was quite interesting! Before true healing can begin, detoxing the bowel seems to be at the heart of the foundational protocols of all the great natural healers, including according to this author. He is the founder of the famous Norwalk juicer. (This book can be read online free here .)
There is a diagram in the book showing the entire length of the large intestine, and how (like a reflexology chart) different sections of the bowel are linked to different organs and parts of the body. So, if someone has, say, thyroid cancer, there is most likely some sort of infection or problem with that part of the large intestine as well, where the thyroid nerve/vessel connects to the intestine. So though this is a book about the bowel, the author gives us a tour of the rest of the body as well, via how it is directly affected by the health of the bowel. I think this would make an excellent book on health for homeschoolers because it navigates through all the body parts-- not just what they do, but how best to care for them.
The author recommends avoiding processed, fried & overcooked foods, devitalized starches, sugars, red meat, and excessive amounts of salt. Fiber and roughage is crucial. The goal is to avoid too much fermentation and putrefaction in the bowel. His other book, The Natural Way to Vibrant Health, goes into more detail about the diet we should be eating to remain healthy (that book is also an excellent health and anatomy book, and would make a practical homeschooling companion book on the subject). But I can say that juicing and raw fruits and vegetables, and foods with living enzymes are a big part of his recommended daily diet.
If you're not having at least 1-3 bowel movements per day, you are not healthy (3 is the ideal). The author recommends that everyone do a high colonic at least twice per year as a kind of tune-up to remain healthy (more often if there is disease present). He lived to be 99, so who can argue with his results? He advises foot massage (reflexology) be done during the colonic, with special attention given to the pressure points of the colon found on the bottom of the foot (the author has posters available for Foot Relaxation as well as for Colon Therapy showing the points). The author was able to save patients from appendectomies just by cleaning out their bowel when an attack came on-- who wouldn't want to avoid surgery? If the bowel is not healthy, there is no way to avoid disease in other parts of the body as well. Getting the bowel healthy is the first foundational step to healing the rest of the body.

A good book , makes one little more conscious about one’s body ,how it works and processes that takes place within. Books make one aware what nature has made our body like and what wrong we are doing with our body by taking toxic foods that can totally disrupt the natural flow of our health system.Looking forward to read more books from Walker.
A fascinating book filled with realizations about society and health issues that are still prevalent today. An interesting and short read though at sometimes it can get a little slow at times. Very little about the actual colon itself and more about its connection to other parts of the body.
A different perspective on health and welfare of one's body. Towards the end he clearly stated, colonics are not a cure all. Read it for yourself, expand your body knowledge and give it try. After reading this book 📙, I think I'll give it a try before considering him a quack!
Every part in body is connected to each other. So if your colon is not healthy, problem will appear in other organs. Author recommends every one to clean colon by doing enema.
libro insoddisfacente.
