Who doesn't like being naked? Eating cookies, sliding down the stairs, or even running around naked as can be? While it might seem fun for kids, parents certainly want to clothe their children, even if it is only in a cape. But, with nakedness comes eventual chills, which can not be fun at all. By the end, nakedness seems overrated, but having pjs and a cape... now that's where it's at! Neo laughed when I presented this story, but he was excited to see other kids like nakedness, even if it gets cold after a time.
What's more fun for a little boy (or girl) than running around NAKED!? Running around naked in a cape! The rhythm of the words make it a fun read. My son loves this book! We just hope it doesn't give him any ideas.
Pants are overrated. If I wouldn't get sent home from work for being inappropriate, I'd be naked everyday. ERRYDAY! And I need to try this naked cookie eating thing. It looks liberating.
Truly hilarious, especially if your kids are little exhibitionists like mine!
Naked! Naked! Naked! Eating a cookie . . . NAKED!
A very fun book that will delight parents and kids alike, and a great bedtime book. The little boy (and don't worry, you don't see the Full Monty) has just had his bedtime bath, is having one last snack, and getting ready for bed. I particularly love the mom's frazzled hair and expression.
I missed this one back when it first came out, but my youngest fell in love with it, this week. She’d ask me to read it, read it again, then she’d run off to read it, herself. Surely it’s not just my kids who wanted to be NAKED(!) when they were toddlers. Like, ALL the time! See more of this book on my review blog at The Miller Memo.
So much fun! Both the text and the art will perfectly tickle your funny bone. One of my son's friends went through a phase when he always wanted to be naked. I wish we'd had this book back then!!!
A little boy streaks naked through his house, followed closely by his mother holding a towel. He leaves a trail of bubbles and puddles behind, shouting “I’m naked!” as he runs. He even manages to snag a cookie and eat it naked as his mother towels him off. Then he has a great idea! He could just dress this way all the time: at school, on the playground, dancing… But wait! Capes are cool too. So then he wears just a cape and manages to be mostly naked but also caped as he runs around. Finally, he catches a chill and agrees because he is so cold to put on pants, a top, even slippers, though he keeps the cape on. And it is off to bed, dressed and warm.
This book perfectly captures the joy of a young child in being entirely naked and running around. Parents will immediately recognize the stage and children will giggle along as the child in the book dreams of all of the places he can go naked. Perhaps best of all in the book is the mother’s response which is acceptance and then managing to get the little boy dressed without tears or tantrums. She respects his enthusiasm but also gets him dressed in the end.
Ohi’s illustrations are vibrant and joyous. She fills the page with the running little boy, moving across the page celebrating just how naked he is. The illustrations are cute, clear and large format, so they will work with a group. Beware though, reading this too a group of preschoolers could have wild results!
Silly, happy and great fun, this naked romp is one that fans of No, David! will enjoy. Appropriate for ages 2-4.
I found the next book I need to own! Parents will understand and kids will laugh! I didn't know what to expect with a book called "Naked" but the author/illustrator team did a great job. The text was hilarious and the illustrations added to the hilarity of the subject. I laughed at the other characters' faces as they were looking at the naked boy. I chuckled even more when he was naked.... but with a cape! Simple text but a GREAT story!
My four year old girls loved this book! We laughed together as the naked boy ran throughout the house ... then added a cape ... then felt cold ... but ended well with a delicious cookie.
One of my daughters just walked by as I was reviewing the book. She pointed at the book and said, "This was the best book ever!" Laughing out loud!
NAKED! (Simon & Schuster Books for Young Readers, April 29, 2014) truly strikes a chord for all parents, guardians and caregivers as well as their children. It might be a once-in-blue-moon occurrence or a nightly ritual but it happens.
Contains no actual nudity - only caped escapades and cookie munching. Great for story time. Several of my story time children said, and I quote directly, "That kid should put on pants. This story is just too silly".
"Doing the Hokey-Pokey... Naked!" Is this a beloved child, or a spoiled one? I hope the former, and that this is a rare event. But I do know that most kids like racing out of the bath sans clothing at least once during their toddler-hood, so I'll not be cynical, and just enjoy the giggles.
Cute little silly book that made me think of Cruz who’s apparently been stripping down in his crib during his nap lately. We enjoyed the book but the ending didn’t have the payoff I expected.
Laugh out loud award winning JE book about a little boy who doesn't want to put clothes on (presumably after a bath) so he runs around the house, eating cookies...maybe he'll just wear a cape...otherwise he'd rather be NAKED!...until he gets cold...but who knows?!
Very good read aloud, especially when the boy would rather do the hokey pokey than wear clothes!
Much to his mother's dismay, one day her little son found that he loves to run around completely naked. This is a funny story with great illustrations always portraying the child modestly so no reader is shocked, just amused.
Naked! is a children's picture book written by Michael Ian Black and illustrated by Debbie Ridpath Ohi is about a boy who loves running around naked – a phase my mother told me I went through when I was a toddler when I refused to wear any clothing, which may explain certain things in my life presently.
Black's text is very simplistic, straightforward, and rather humorous. I really felt the boy's joy about running around the house naked, doing things naked, and just generally like being naked. The wording also has a nice beat that flows rather well. Ohi's illustrations is wonderfully done – a tad cartoonish to the point of looking like a comic, but it was apropos to the story and enhance the text rather well.
The premise of the book is really simple with no discernible moral, but maybe to enjoy one's nakedness while you can. The book opens with a boy taking a bath, but when his mother tires to dress him – he dashes off and spends the entire day at home naked – declaring how being naked is so wonderful.
Until he sees a cape, which he wears, which ironically enough, was another phase I went through. According to my mother there was a time in my life where I wouldn't do anything if I couldn't wear my favorite red cape. It also explains my fascination in comic books, but oddly enough, I don't really follow Superman. In the end, the little boy does agree to wear clothes, just in time for bed.
All in all, Naked! is a wonderfully written children's book filled with humor and loads of nakedness!
Yep.... he's unwrapped... nude... au naturel and ready to streak!!
This book is just plain fun. It is a celebration of the joys of being"ME", of pure, innocent freedom and giving a shout out to the birthday suit! (which adults seem to want to cover up all the time!!)
Unwrapping it in rhyme...
The bubble bath was so much fun, Might escape to take a run. Bye, bye mom - you can't catch me, I'm naked and I'm feeling free!
Ha! Ha! mom - the towel?, no thanks Gonna go and grab my cape. I'll fly around and be real cool, I might go naked to my school.
Cookies taste best when you're bare, No shirt, no pants, no underwear. Look at me, I'm my own man Did dad or you turn on a fan?
I'm feeling chilly, oh dear me I need my jammies I can see. I'll jump in bed and snuggle in Get toasty warm up to my chin.
Naked time was such a blast But now I see the time has passed. Good night bare toes, goodnight bare bum... Goodnight, goodnight to everyone!
The story is so kid-perfect and the illustrations bring the words to life. Every time I read the book I laugh out loud at this little guy's free spirit flowing with happiness and adventure as he moves throughout his world NAKED. I would highly recommend this book for a great bedtime story. Warning: Read after the bath...when dressed in the pyjamas...and tucked safely into bed. Then there will be no fear of a copy-cat rendezvous au naturel. Yep, it's a winner.
This book is just so fun and funny! We had a lot of laughs with this book in our house. The little boy just loves to be naked, and not just in the bathtub. He loves to run through the house naked, slide down the stairs naked, and eat cookies naked. Until he finds a cape. And then he loves running around the house wearing his cape, and nothing else!
The illustrations are just awesome. Let me start by saying that Debbie Ridpath Ohi, has really done a wonderful job capturing the humor of this situation, while at the same time remaining appropriate and tasteful. The little boy is drawn from the side or in shadow or from the shoulders up, so that we don't have worry about young children seeing any of the naughty bits.
Among my favorite illustrations: When the little boy is running down the stairs, all of the portraits on the wall are shocked with wide open mouths and the father is shielding the baby brother like he's about to be harmed by his brother's nudity. I also love the double page spread of the boy doing the Hokey Pokey naked! I'm not sure that I want to have this book in my classroom library, but it's definitely a lot of fun and younger children would love it!
This wonderful, enjoyable read-aloud celebrates the joys of being naked—naked, naked, naked. The wide-mouthed boy in this picture book eats (several) cookies-naked, slides down the stairs-naked, and dreams of going to school, doing the hokey pokey, and playing on the playground-naked. Children will easily identify with this sometimes-caped crusader and his patient parents, and giggle every time the word “Naked!” is read aloud. Be prepared to read it aloud many times as giggling, smiling children enthusiastically shout, “read it again”.
