2.5 star. Enough fun facts, and mostly written in an accessible style. The book has no pictures of the brain, the author uses a comparison to explain the typography. The title does not completely match the contents, not everything - though interesting - is a should know imho

What an incredible book I should say, it really gives you a new prespective about the brain and everything that it concerns.
If you are new to this amazing field I really recommend it because it is technicall, but not that technicall, so that you can know nothing about the subject, but still understand it pretty well.
Congrats Professor on this amazing book, hoping to read more of your works!

Fantastic book, well written and well presented so that also non-technical readers can enjoy. Prof. Scott whom I met at a book signing in London is a very kind and nice person. She should write more books to communicate science to the general public.

A fascinating and highly accessible exploration of the organ that makes us who we are.
Sophie Scott takes complex neuroscience and breaks it down into ten lessons that challenge how we think about ourselves and the world around us.
The book explores:
🧠 The brain as an extraordinary network of neurons
🧠 Why there's no single "control centre" running everything
🧠 How every brain is unique
🧠 The brain's remarkable ability to change and adapt
🧠 How our brains construct our perception of reality
🧠 Why memory is less reliable than we think
🧠 The essential role of emotions in decision-making
🧠 The importance of communication and language
🧠 The connection between physical health and brain health
🧠 The many mysteries neuroscience has yet to solve
Rather than presenting facts, she encourages readers to think about how the brain shapes our identity, behaviour, relationships, and everyday experiences.

increasing my knowledge about the brain, how we can improve our cognitif ability and sensory abilities such as echolocation, sensory abilities in bats or blind people in seeing their environment, are abilities that can be trained because the brain is plasticy.

Found this a really fascinating and accessible explanation of many aspects of the brain. Just needed a diagram on hand at the same time to refer to.

Good intro to brain, although, the '10 things' part of the name of the book is misleading

A short & sweet peek into our most fascinating organ - the chapter explaining how different languages are processed was super interesting.

Good topics and well explained. A little basic for me, but it's an easy read only an evening or so.

An interesting read, fascinating facts and concepts that the brain has developed about itself.

Easy quick read. Better as a cursory introduction or review of basic brain functions rather than an analysis or exploration of the brain.
Still entertaining.
