In a small town in Texas five ex-mercenaries reunite when one of their number, Red, half Comanche, half Texan, is threatened. Presidential candidate Senator O’Hara likes to keep his town whiter than snow and everybody firmly in their place and he’s taken a dislike to Red. The town’s sheriff won’t risk his job by helping so it’s down to Johnny Silver and his band of comrades to sort out the matter. The resultant attacks escalate from a simple poisoning of the ranch’s water supply, through frightening off the workers, to a full-scale war with a fifty-strong gang of bikers. And pulling the strings is their most formidable foe yet—a professional assassin, the Killer in Black. Are Johnny’s team still strong enough to take on the challenges posed by the unknown enemy? Or have they finally met their match?
Paul Bennett was born in London and educated at Alleyn's school in Dulwark. He studied Economics at Exeter University and spent seven years in advertising. When he left advertising, he set up a market research agency whuch he sold in 1986. He has now semi-retired in order to pursue writing. Bennett lives in a converted barn in Essex with his wife and two daughters.
Not much to say. A simple action tale. If this was a movie, it would be straight to video for sure. Everything was basically black and white. Not to overdo the movie angle, but this would have been perfect for Chuck Norris in the 80's.
Following on from the first book, we find the team together again for another dangerous mission. Loved everything about this story, plenty of tense action, interesting new characters and great banter. A surprising twist right at the end that I didn't see coming. A thoroughly enjoyable easy read, looking forward to book 3. Highly recommend this very talented author. Thank you BP Sheffield.
Another great read from the author Paul Bennett. I am really enjoying the Johnny Silver series. Each book has wonderful characters and you get to see what makes them tick. My next book will be One Bullet Too Many. A big thank you to the author and from me another well deserved 5 stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Good storyline of a group of retired special forces soldiers meeting up again to help one of the group out of a problem. A problem involving bent political senator, Hells Angles, greedy neighbour and professional assassin all working together to force them and a neighbouring community group from their land. All in all a good read.
Another thrilling adventure for Johnny Silver and friends
Loved this, had a hint of the wild West about it. If you're a fan of Lee Child's character Jack Reacher, you are going to love Johnny Silver. He and his mercenary pals take on another problem...for one of their own. Enjoy, I'm about to start book 3
Johnny gets a call from one of his team, Red, that he has got some problems in Texas. So,the whole team get back together to help out. Turns out that someone wants Red out of his ranch along with a commune in another ranch, but why? The bullets fly again, as you would expect, as well as the humour. Great writing!
This book was OK. The middle dragged a bit, and then the end appeared to be rushed, everything fell into place too easily. Its as though the author suddenly realised the publishing date was next week! Won't read the rest of this series.
A wonderful ‘Reacher’ like read but with 5 Reachers!!! Full of action along with a good storyline that makes the book an easy read. Bring on more from this author
A group of mercenaries defend a ranch that one of them wins in a poker game.
A straight forward action story – not a great deal of character or plot development, but entertaining enough if you simply want to slip out of the world for a couple of hours and like ‘dodgy shoot-out’ stories.
