Dimitri Hardy and I were never really supposed to be friends.
He was a risky, over-the-top investor. I was trying to avoid the glamorous lifestyle my parents had raised me in. He was fun and laid back. I was wound tight and dramatic. He had his life put together. I did not.
So having Dimitri witness my breakup was a low moment. Especially since my boyfriend was also my professor, and after cheating on me, he decided to make me redo my master's thesis.
But Dimitri saw an opportunity. He offered to assist with my thesis. In exchange, I would help him gain the trust of the upscale town where I'd grown up-one he'd just heavily invested in.
His proposal: Move back home and fake a relationship with him for the summer. Show my town he's trustworthy. Adore one another in public and pretend there's no desire brewing in private. It seems like an easy plan.
But what Dimitri doesn't understand is that a few months in my hometown can ruin you . . . and one summer of denying my desire of his stolen touches and longing stares just might ruin me too.
Shain Rose is an author of Contemporary Romance and New Adult novels. She fights for love one word a time. Those happily ever afters can be difficult to get to sometimes!
When she isn't writing, she's spending the days with Doc G, Liv and Gray Gray, and their wild golden retriever. She and Doc G drink way too much coffee, eat way too much candy, and fight like they've been married for hmm how long has it been now?
Life is good when the kids are behaving.
On the off chance she's not writing or spending time with family and friends, she's calling them to talk. And if no one answers.... then she's reading and watching trashy TV.
war is finally over because i finished this entire series and all i can say is that it is godawful
but this book seriously takes the cake for some of the worst writing and world-building i have ever read. i really wish i could give it negative stars because who tf proof-read this and said 'yep let's send this to publishing'?????????????????????
there are so many things to discuss
1. the man himself, Dimitri he is borderline predatory in the sense that he basically forces his FAKE and i repeat FAKE girlfriend to have a child with him. It's so disgusting... repeatedly, she tells him that she isn't ready to start a family, ESPECIALLY with someone she just had a one night stand with. Yet, he doesn't get the hint at all and continues to push her saying that he'll "just be ready for the both of us" until she comes around- THIS IS SO PROBLEMATIC AND BIZARRE BECAUSE THAT IS NOT HOW IT WORKS WHEN HE IS NOT THE ONE CARRYING THE CHILD FOR 9 WHOLE MONTHS???
not to mention they barely know each other but for some reason, he is completely convinced she is the one true love of his life - btw they've only declared each other as friends for 1-2 months
he constantly refers to her as 'the mother of my child' and says things like 'i hope i did knock you up' HOW IS THIS NOT A MILLION RED FLAGS GOD AM I GOING CRAZY HERE
finally, Dimitri is insanely possessive and not in the usual fun way; I'm talking full-on bat shit crazy cannot have a single male friend or go out in anything remotely revealing type crazy and it was so exhausting to read because why can't any woman in this series have their own autonomy
2. the woman herself, Olive she once again, like her best friend from the previous book, is a doormat. not only that but she is entirely one dimensional; there is no development for her and her character stays the same throughout the whole book...essentially she is boring and not relatable as a mc at all. The way she deals with her family is so half-assed and stupid I wanted to tear my hair out when reading it
this book also is a huge advocate for practising unsafe sex and it's such an ick can we please stop this
3. the plot by far my biggest issue with this entire garbage fire of a read is the storyline, to which there actually is none. I don't even know why they're fake dating in the first place because the premise sucks ass
then halfway through the book I can't roll my eyes any harder this is so goddamn stupid I'm actually laughing out loud while writing this review.
This book also ends super abruptly and in the end all of the anxiety surrounding the danger vanishes and is no longer a worry and I'm genuinely so sick of myself for reading this because frankly, it ruined my night😑😑
4. the fucking HEAT empire if I ever have to read another instance of these insane brothers and this supposed kingdom they've created I might actually end it
I can understand having money and I can understand being investors in many sectors but whatever they have in this is so unrealistic, you can't even attempt to fool yourself into believing it could be plausible
Essentially, these 4 brothers are the CEOS of hospitals, hotels, resorts, stores, gyms, malls, real estate basically anything your mind can think of, they apparently own it. AND it is all controlled by a singular HEAT watch omfg can you kill me already this is SO dumb
these guys legitimately think they are the owners of the planet and im so sick and tired of it
TLDR: this book sucks don't invest your time and mental wellbeing on it
I can honestly say this book and the entire series as a whole is some of the worst literature if you can even call it that I have ever had the misfortune of reading
dare I say it's worse than CoHo? Maybe at this point. Never in my life do I want to pick up a book by this author ever again.
What a freakin ride. I was tearing up in the prologue… THE PROLOGUE PEOPLE! And it was just a roller coaster after that. I had the butterflies, the kicking feet, the anger, the nerves, the gut wrenching moments… ALL OF IT! I can’t even tell you one straight emotion I had reading this, because I felt them all!
Dimitri…. Just damn. He was SO OBSESSED with Olive 🤣 but, all Hardy men are with their women sooo 🤷♀️ I loved every second of his unhinged character 😂 I mean, the man literally ripped up a porch because another man kissed her cheek on it… possessive red flags never looked so hot 😂🔥
Don’t even get me started on the spicy scenes & the breeding kink this man had 🥵 like that should not have been as hot as it was. Dimitri should have been a red flag, but all I’m seeing is green 💚
My jaw was literally on the floor the last like 25% of this book. The drama that unfolded had my gut churning and flipping through the pages like I needed it to survive.
I am so not ready for this empire to be over. Like, maybe it’s just time for a reread 😍
𝐅𝐚𝐯𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐞 𝐐𝐮𝐨𝐭𝐞𝐬: “Fuck me. You’re as pretty as an angel, Olive, and I normally fuck like I’m in hell.”
“Stop talking about other men or I’m going to shove my cock down your throat to shut you up.”
“I said, watch your mouth when you’re speaking to my girl, or I’ll break it apart so you don’t have to,”
At Dex and Keelani’s wedding celebration, Olive discovers that her professor boyfriend has been unfaithful to her and grooming her along with other students. Deciding to get drunk and enjoy a one night stand, Olive finds herself involving Dimitri. He’s a perpetual bachelor who never spends more than one night with the same woman. But Dimitri and Olive are both best friends with Keelani. So Olive insists that Kee never finds out about their indiscretion. Dimitri has made an investment in Paradise Grove, an affluent area that Olive came from. After the death of her mother, her last years spent there with her father, her younger brother Knox and her ice queen stepmother hadn’t been happy ones. Dimitri’s investment is being consistently blocked by the board of Paradise Grove, so he asks Olive to help him to improve his image by moving in with him and playing the part of his girlfriend. But there is so much that neither of them know about. Obstacles for Dimitri and family history that Olive was never privy to. But as they work together, their relationship begins to feel more real than pretend… This was an excellent addition to the Hardy’s romances. Olive and Dimitri have a fiery, passionate relationship that neither could’ve foreseen. A brilliant story to end the Hardy boys on.
Ugh !! I hate to say goodbye to the Hardy Brothers , but DAMN did Dimitri come through !!! The mouth on this man shouldn’t be legal 🥵🥵😍 This was an amazing conclusion to the Hardy brothers , if you haven’t read the rest of the series I highly suggest you move them up on your TBR .. NOW !!! I absolutely loved watching the growth in Olive within herself and towards her family !! We all love a strong woman who speaks up for themselves !! And watching Dimitri fall head over heels for Olive first and try to show her over time how he felt without overwhelming her was beautiful !! He was direct in what he wanted whether she took him series or not , he was willing to stick around until she realized she wanted it too ! I’m not going to give spoilers, but if you love a billionaire romance , where he falls first and HARD, she’s a strong woman , has strong character growth , and he has a NASTY 🥵🤤 mouth BUT in good way … THIS IS THE BOOK FOR YOU!! 💕💗💞💖
HOW DOES A AUTHOR FUCK UP SO BADLY.🤦 Like this man is a walking red flag, like he did a whole 180 in the second half, he became grumpy like the rest of his brothers.🙄 He basically trapped her into marriage by knocking her up. EVEN THO SHE CONSTANTLY SAID SHES NOT READY FOR A CHILD OVER AND OVER AGAIN AND WASN'T READY FOR COMMITMENT. 🤮 like she found out she was pregnant and was like "Oh OkAy, MaYbE I aM rEaDy." Like whattt.😭
This feels like it was written by AI. It was so incredibly hard to read. The plot was incoherent. His character didn’t make any sense. She didn’t even admit to liking him until 80% through the book. Her constant talking about dating other men and going on dating apps went on for 80% of the book, you’re just beating a dead horse.
They banged like every chapter and idk why the author thought that was a better idea than nailing down the subplot and developing the characters. The hot tub scene was just weird and when she said she liked voyuerism then all of a sudden he says he’s never doing that again????
They both discover the diamond organization with 60 pages left in the book and that was just thrown in like an afterthought. And they have to conclude the romance, her relationship with her brother, and gloss over the fact that she didn’t want to tell Kee about her relationship but somehow she knows/is fine with it without them ever talking about it.
Their relationship dynamic was disgusting. He threw out her birth control pills after she gets a migraine and he tells her that her birth control can give her blood clots and have all these side effects……girl I’m afraid that’s such common knowledge that it’s laughable that the characters are shocked by it. He doesn’t use a condom even though she tells him to and tells him that she doesn’t want to be a mom, but because he wants it, that’s what he gets. He acts like a spoiled brat. And several times the author describes them as screaming at each other???? What on earth.
There is literally no point to having Meely in this book. Okay she’s jealous of Olive??? And does absolutely nothing for the plot. Jameson is jealous of Dimitri but he’s also a part of this weird organization? There’s never any explanation or closure.
There’s no resolution with the town hall meeting that the whole plot was based around. There’s no explanation of her thesis, and she doesn’t even have to defend her thesis anymore? And there’s no interaction with this supposedly dangerous Irish mob. “It’s over” is all the explanation we get…they don’t retaliate or anything like you’d expect from the buildup of how dangerous they are.
Also with all the HEAT WOMEN showing up at the end suddenly in the know about everything and have picked a side…..🤢 don’t even get me started on those ridiculous watches.
There is nothing worse than waiting for a book for so long and not liking it 😭 There are very specific things in a book I dislike and this unfortunately had all of them
HELLO? EXCUSE ME !! AND EVERYTHING IN BETWEEN IM SO SORRY TO SAY THIS TO YOU HARDY MEN BUT DIMITRI HAS MY HEART !!🩷 THAT MAN IS MY MAN😚😚 HE IS BY FAR THE BEST HARDY MEN YES I SAID IT RIGHT THERE. 'I wanted her as unhinged as I was. If I was going to lose my mind, she was going down the path of insanity with me.'
Well, this fucking sucked ass. Not only that, it's unsalvageable levels of terrible due to three completely out of the blue things happening because what do you mean Dimitri has the same monitoring kink as Dex (although probably not as extreme, or could even be who even knows at this point and I know kinks are hereditary but please, not like this 🥲💀), there's now a mafia involved eh? and the breeding kink that just didn't go with them at all like read the room, man. There was a scene that featured a mix of somnophilia and breeding kink and LOL no.
Don't even get me started on Olive and the way she dealt with her family. God, I've never been so disinterested in wanting to know less about a character and the ~secret society they grew up in. Same with Dimitri because what the hell happened to the dude? Talk about turning a decent character into a wholeass collection of personality traits. Plus, they practically had zero chemistry, it all read like lust on Olive's part and Dimitri going through an intense character regression and one-track-mind which wasn't hot at all. On top of all that, it's all set in a community that I couldn't bring myself to give two shits about. So yeah, this ain't it
First chapter in and the fmc is already painted as a damsel in distress and can't have a proper coversation without her cheeks wobbling or tears rolling down. And don't get me started w the height difference. She's apparently 5'4'' and he's 6'6''? That's just ridiculous. The sheer stupidity of the characters was blasphemous. The dialogues were so CORNY - yes all capital letters. Everything is so fucking unrealistic and weird. The fmc is 25 but acts like a pre teen. She doesn't have a backbone like the other fmcs of this author's books. I don't understand how all of them are spineless idiots. It's like they're all carbon copies of eachother with different names. The only reason I picked this up was bcs I needed closure for the series but the ending was so abrupt and weird. The side characters were too nosy and the writing was not to my liking either. I literally lost interest in Chapter 4 when they started fucking out of nowhere. And the plot really did leave the chat because NOTHING made sense to me.
Spineless lady, abusive man, and a plot that felt like a fever dreams.
Yes, the possessive man trope can be a vibe, but that’s not the case when he freaking DESTROYS HER BIRTH CONTROL AND DECIDED HE WANTS TO GET HER PREGNANT LIKE A FREAKING CAVEMAN.
Sorry guys, I had some serious issues with consent and dominating literally everything in fmc’s life. I get that these are the vibes for these books, but too many lines got crossed for my comfort.
The voyerism was weird, the booty stuff was a lot, the smooshing while she’s still asleep?? Like that’s crazy. I know this was a will they won’t they and part of the play was her fighting back but like, get a safe word already.
I also had a lot of confusion around the actual plot. I thought fmc hated her hometown, and all of a sudden she decided she loved it and wanted to stay.
The underground gang issues were WILD. Giving your kid drugs to test out? INSANITY.
Idk man, there were just too many things. This book made me tired.
“Always with, never without, Olive Monroe,” I growled. She wasn’t leaving me out of her life. I wouldn’t even have her voice it as an option.
🌸Words cannot express how much I loved this book. It was the perfect ending to the Hardy Billionaire Series. My love for Olive and Dimitri is insane and I am already desperate for a reread.
🌸It was so refreshing to read about Olive claiming back her power and her love for her hometown. Her growth throughout the book was amazing and so nice to read about. Watching her flourish and grow, even though she had so much pain from her mother dying to her trauma from her hometown, and still being able to hold her head high was beautiful. Her relationship with her brother Knox was honestly amazing, the way they were able to mend their relationship and she didn’t give up on him was so loving. The pain they went through losing their mother and growing apart to then coming back to each other was heartwarming to read.
🌸Dimitri showing his love and devotion through this book was incredible. He truly showed Olive what’s was like to be loved and chosen, to be put first, always uplifted her when she put herself down and truly loved her through her flaws had me tearing up. When his grumpy, cold walls dropped and he showed how much he cared for the people in his life made me so happy because he deserved happiness.
🌸Olive and Dimitri were truly made for each other. Him realising that he wanted to settle down with Olive and to have that life he saw his family members having was adorable. Her showing him what it’s like to be loved and cared for, she provided him the safe space to be vulnerable which he hadn’t been in his life before. When she needed protecting, he was there for her but also respected her enough to let her fight her own battles. They saw through each other’s walls and it seriously made me cry seeing their relationship flourish.
🌸It wouldn’t be a Shain Rose book if the whole family doesn’t rock up ahahaha. But seeing everyone who cared for both Olive and Dimitri come together to get the best out of their situation was truly everything. The portrayal of a strong familial bond in this book and series was top tier.
🌸This was honestly just the best ending to the series and I’m so grateful to have had the chance to read it early. Although I’m sad to say goodbye to these characters, I can’t wait to see what is next!
Thank you Shain Rose for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

- Fake dating - Forced proximity - Billionaire - Breeding - He Falls First
Queen of Billionaires, Shain Rose has done it again with her latest release, Between Desire and Denial, the perfect conclusion to a captivating series! This book had me hooked from the first page with its sizzling chemistry, high-stakes drama, hilarious banter and emotional depth. The fake dating and forced proximity tropes kept the tension alive, while the billionaire backdrop added the perfect touch of luxury and intrigue. Dimitri’s and Olive’s journey from denial to undeniable desire and passion was both heartfelt and swoonworthy. A masterful blend of romance and tension, this is a must-read if you love a well-crafted love story. Pick it up or dd it to your TBR today!
I mean…she was definitely living in denial… It was really quite annoying actually…
I loved Dimitri through the whole book, but if I was him, I would have left her after ten minutes. I don’t know how many times he told her he wanted her for real, and how many times he tried to show her that he loved her. But she had dementia or something. Because she would go on and on about how he would see other women when he traveled for work, and she would tell herself he didn’t want someone like her five minutes after he gave her a long monologue about how she was perfect, and made for him.
And she was so contradicting in what she would say and do, and think and feel. She wanted to have physical relations to not think about her ex. She wanted to do them with Dimitri. But then she had to tell herself that the first, the second, the third, the fourth etc time was the last, because they couldn’t have sex. Then she would tell him that she wasn’t ready to date him because of her ex. But she needed to talk to guys on dating apps and go on dates with them. Then when she was sort of in a relationship with him, and he wanted them to be exclusive, she needed it to be casual, and keep talking to guys on dating apps. And she said he should meet women when traveling. But then she would cry if Melly threw herself at him. And she was so jealous whenever Melly threw herself at him. But when Jameson was staring at her, or kissing her on the cheek, Dimitri was just overreacting when he was jealous. She needs to go touch some grass, then become a nun, cause no one will EVER keep up with that shit.
And I will be honest. Dimitri could come off as completely controlling, and kept telling her he wanted to go all in when she kept telling him she wasn’t ready. But I am still pissed at her because she told him it was all fake, and she didn’t want to be with him. But then her body would just betray her every time she saw him, and she would be fully engaged in their sexual activities, and then turn around and make him feel worthless after by talking about dating others. How does the saying go? Either shit, or get off the pot. She can’t have both. If you insist on drawing a line in the sand, then stop crossing it and blaming the other person for putting too much commitment on to you!
I have to admit I didn’t really understand the plot. Like where did this secret society even come from. Why was there no backstory to Olive’s life there so this place actually felt like a natural part of the story. Why didn’t the story have an actual climax, and why was the drama at the end written the way it was. I mean I didn’t understand anything. I thought she was getting kidnapped in that airport, but then she wasn’t because she went by her own free will, but for some reason she couldn’t just go to the same location with Dimitri. And I don’t know if I missed something in that airport scene, but it looked like Olive was being threatened, didn’t it? I didn’t really understand what her friend was trying to say, or how it gave Olive this revelation, and suddenly it was all badass bitch girl power shit. And suddenly all the other guys are showing up, because apparently all the women had set everything up? I mean what did they really have to do with anything?? I have no fucking clue. It was written so weirdly, and it came out of nowhere.
I honestly hated Paradise Grove. Was that its name? It didn’t feel like a welcoming place to live at all. Just a place full of judgy people who stuck their noses in everyone’s business, and hated outsiders. I wanted them to get the hell away from there and live near one of the other Hardy couples. But suddenly Olive felt a moral obligation to stay, and of course Dimitri had to stay as well. And it was suddenly “their place”, and now they will build a family there, and god I wanted them to leave.
I gave this two stars instead of one because it had sweet little moments, and I always love when the rest of the family is included, both in group chats, and in person.
The second book has been the only one I have truly loved. For some reason I keep reading these. The covers are pretty.
This book was a wild ride and I’m here for it. I was giggling, kicking my little feet, screaming, crying, laughing. I felt it all.
Dimitri was the best. The way this man became obSESSED. He just kept on showing Olive he’s IT for her and he totally is!!
I couldn’t stop reading… I need to know more and more and more. And don’t get me started on the spice… That’s the key points you just read on why to read this book 🤭.
The last 20% of this book had my face be like 😲.
I absolutely LOVED this book!!!!!!!
*I read this book in exchange for an honest review*
I think the fake dating trope has to be done a certain way to make it good. 85% of this book was her fighting him and saying “it’s not real, you need to date other people.” After a while, that got annoying, she was just stuck on repeat too much. That was her only dialogue, denying him and convincing him they need to date other people. The other thing that was annoying was Melly telling her she didn’t belong. The girl had ancestral history of her mom’s family basically establishing Paradise Grove, but somehow this chick was making her feel less than and she believed it? Nah. If anybody didn’t belong it was the step mom in her mom’s house kicking her out of it.
I think the professor storyline should’ve had a little more drama. It was a good intro that got me quickly interested in the book and then it was wrapped up way too quickly and easily. Then the mob plot twist came out, which, if I’m being honest, was boring.
I’ve read books where the parents will drug the daughter to keep her in line, but she’s usually broke and defenseless, this was a different and prob unbelievable spin that it was the son. I’m sure your mom left you money, bro? Leave. Why are you letting them control you? I didn’t understand this.
The fake dating stuck on denial repeat vibes reminded me of Declan and Evie and her repeatedly telling him, “it’s not real, go be with Anastasia” over and over again, like this man didn’t borrow the Armanelli’s private plane when he heard you were over another man’s house. Dom and Clara will prob be my favorite of the series and on reread rotation.
Let’s talk about this ending, it was hard to read. I don’t know why authors have to do this ‘billionaire, fake dating, get her pregnant as soon as possible, controlling and possessive mmc, mafia/mob has a storyline, somebody gets kidnapped in every book’ thing. The ending was weird. This reminded me of that tv show Revenge when they introduced some secret society that was running everything behind the scenes and the show started to get weird and hard to watch. Thats what happened with this book. I wanted to stop reading. I had to tell myself I wasn’t a quitter and keep picking it back up.
And the sisters involving themselves and being nosy was annoying. This book just wasn’t for me. It got cringy.
Anyway, the snippets posted of this book were good. They got me highly anticipating its release two months prior, but I prob won’t reread. Thats my indicator of if I really loved the book.
Fake Dating He fall first/harder Billionaire POSSESSIVE
THIS BOOK!!!! This was my first read from this author and this series and I am OBSESSED! Omfg. Dimitri the MAN you are! He’s sweet, he’s observant, he’s HOT, and he’s Possessive!
The ending of the book had me SHOOK. The drama?! I was eating it up! 🥄 The bathtub scene… it’s imprinted on my brain forever bc O.M.F.G! The mouth on this man 🫠🫠🫠
Excuse me while I go binge the rest of the series!
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
Just as I think this can be as good as the other books, she proves me wrong. Oh my, another Hardy brother I would go feral for 🫠 The twist and turns in this book kept me twisting and turning too. The spice 🥵🥵🥵 (I didn't know a breeding kink could be so hot), the emotional rollercoaster it took me on.
Dimitri falls first for Olive and he is obsessed. Another Hardy brother unhinged over his woman. Damn the porch scene, ripping up a porch just because another man kissed her on her cheek. There may be many red flags when it comes to the Hardy brothers but I am colorblind 🤣🤣 I loved seeing Olive grow and stand up for herself and watching her take control was powerful.
Now that there are no more Hardy brothers, I need Bane and Pink's story. How else will I go on?
"Don't you dare say we're just friends, or I'll pull this car over and f*ck you on top of it"
ARC Review - Between Desire and Denial by Shain Rose 5 🌟
When Olive finds out her boyfriend has been cheating on and using her, her world is turned upside down. Enter Dimitri, a smoking hot man she knows through her best friend. He’s ruthless with his investments and the perfect one-night stand she needs to forget her ex. When Dimitri gets pushback on his investments in the gated community where Olive grew up he sees the opportunity to use her connections. However, the arrangement becomes complicated when they have to live together and pretend to be a couple to gain the community's trust. But is it just pretend? Will Olive let down her walls and let Dimitri in or will she shut him out?
I was lucky enough to get an eARC of this book and I absolutely DEVOURED it! I stayed up until 1am to finish it because I simply couldn’t put it down. Dimitri is an absolute dreamboat and he gets you hot under the collar as soon as you meet him. His obsession with Olive is visceral and his dirty mouth is panty-dropping 🥵 Olive is such a strong, independent character and when she accepts support it’s beautiful to see. And just because the spice in this book is off the charts, absolutely doesn’t mean the plot was lacking. The twists and turns in the subplots in this book kept me just as hooked as the smut and it was just an all-around fantastic read!
Be sure to check it out when it releases on September 17th 🩷🩷
Since Olive and Dimitri are closest friends with Kee, they have been in each other's social circles for a while. They haven't, however, actually ever been friends. However, Dimitri finds himself stepping in and offering to be Olive's rebound after she breaks up with her boyfriend at Kee's wedding. Dimitri promises to help Olive when she runs into trouble with her thesis, but there's a catch: in order for him to further his investment and gain a closer relationship with Olive's hometown, Olive must pretend to be his girlfriend. I enjoyed how obsessed Dimitri was with Olive and how he reassured her of their relationship throughout the story. This book was amazing. This was my first book by the author, and I want to read the rest of the series.
This was such a good read and I really didn‘t want it to end! 😩 I devoured this book in one sitting, Shain Rose never disappoints me, another hit 🔥Dimitri fell and he fell hard, if you love billionaire romance, this one is definitely for you! 🥰 I loved Dimitri and Olive and I‘m just so sad to say goodbye to them and to all the Hardy brothers 😭 Thank you for the ARC Copy Shain and I hope everyone enjoys them like I did! Definitely a must read from me!! 🫶🏼♥️
