Heartbreak led me to making a deal with the Devil. Little did I know, he would strip me of nearly everything that I was and turn me into his perfect trophy wife. I hate everything about him, and the person I have become. I’ve grown tired of being compliant but asking for help comes at a price that I refuse to pay. I suppose it's a good thing I didn’t have to ask. But hope is a fickle thing and I'm quickly running out. Their plan is in place. One call is all it will take. Will I fly free from my gilded cage? Or Will I stay a butterfly with a wounded wing.
• I could’ve gobbled up so much more of this writing. I feel the need to share I messaged H.B. the minute I got to the last page saying EXCUSE ME. I want more 😂
• The FMC Mae, goes through it. It just makes you love her more though, she’s a tough cookie. It’s like she is the punching bag for him to live out some sick desire to cause pain. That brings me to Atticus, ummmm what to say 🤐 I’ll go with, he is a different level of dark and twisted than what I’ve been reading lately. That is for sure, which is a pleasant surprise. There’s some other characters you should know about but, you’ll have to read to meet them.
• Would I read it again? You bet! Right before the next book xo I suggest it, quick and exciting read.
LISTEN TO ME! Grab this novella as soon as it drops because babbbbyyyyy. Did I start right before going to sleep? Yes. Did I end up waking up out of my sleep because I needed to finish? Also yes! I need more. Like there was sooo much that happened and it was still not enough 😭😭. The FMC Mae is my ace, given the situation that she’s in I loved her fighter spirit even when it would not work in her favor. Love me a “go out swinging” kinda girl. Now ATTICUS LENNON…crotch punch 🤛 double crotch punch to be exact….(but why do I also feel things for this man who is so trash??👀🫠🙃). Ugh the characters we meet…ugh I just need more. The BEST/WORST tease I’ve put myself through 🫠
*I strongly suggest you check CW/TW because the subject matter is…”mattery”(yes I know this isn’t a real word).
Holy shit I loved everything about this and I need more ASAP. Full review soon
EDIT:
ARC Review: Wounded Wing, by H.B. Cliffy. Releases May 27th on Amazon and KU 🖤
5 Stars! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
REVIEW: I’ll be honest, I had just decided to take a break from ARCs when this hit my inbox, so I was less than enthusiastic to begin reading it. But that attitude changed right away as soon as I began reading. I was sucked in from the very first page. I inhaled this in one sitting. (very slight spoilers below).
Wounded Wing is book #1 of the World Intelligence Agency series. It’s a prequel, and reads like an extended prologue setting the stage and introducing all the characters of the series. WW mostly follows Mae as she navigates around her awful, abusive, and toxic husband Atticus who has spent their entire marriage completely and intentionally breaking her down (for reasons we don’t completely understand yet, other than the fact that he’s a total sadist). But Mae still has a ton of fight in her, and I can’t wait to see how their story unfolds. It seems like WW is maybe setting Atticus up to be the main antagonist, and the rest of the MMCs to be the eventual end game love interests, but I could be completely wrong. And regardless, I’m eager to see where it goes.
It’s clear from little hints sprinkled throughout the novella (and that cliffhanger) that many of our characters are plotting and planning something big, that maybe there’s a revenge or vendetta plot about to play out..and I cannot wait to watch it unfold and to also unravel Mae’s tragic backstory.
Mind the TW/CW! There was one scene that was particularly upsetting, and made me realize “oh when she said irredeemable MMC, she really means irredeemable”. Also, don’t be turned off by the “cheating” warning. I guarantee it’s not what you think, but if you have questions about it, DM me. I avoid “cheating” books like the plague, but it was used in a way to really show you how toxic the relationship is between Mae and Atticus, and it didn’t upset me like it normally would have.
This novella is dark. For me I almost didn’t push past chapter 5 cause of what happens just in that chapter and it made me so mad and uncomfortable!! But I did and I’m glad I did.
This was setting the tone for a new series as a prequel but it’s got almost three pages of triggers for a lil over 100 pages so def read those.
Mae is a conditioned and abused housewife to Atticus (dbag) her husband. (The things I would like to do to this man to unalive him!). He is a real POS and one hell of a psychopath with what he puts her through. And that is all I’m gonna say about it cause you’ll have to read to find out the rest!
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
Oh my god, I want to say thank you to H.B. Cliffy for sending me a ARC, this book is freaking amazing. I literally love and sympathize for Mae (FMC). There are so many MC POVs, and I don’t know which one I like more😩😭! Literally I’ve fallen in love with Mae’s personality and her whole character. I think I’ve fallen in love with Ren or Lex..I don’t yet🥲!! But I want to see what happens to Mae first, so I’m going to buy the book and give a full review when I get my hands on it! So far this is my ARC review and I love it so, so, much!!! I can’t wait to get the book 🙈🙈
EXCUSE MEEEEEE MA’AM! This was so YUMMMMMMYY I COULD READ THIS ALL DAY ANY DAY EVERY DAYYYYY I LOVE THIS WRITING THIS STORY THESE CHARACTERS! This was a quick read and this is book one in the series ADD THIS TO YOUR TBR NOWWWWW
The first thing I need to say is check the trigger warnings on this novella, she may be short but there’s a lot packed in here. I’ve read a lot of books , dark books. But I can say without a doubt I haven’t hated a character as much as Atticus in a while. He’s an absolute garbage human being and that just shows how great the writing is to make me feel that way. Wounded Wing is a Novella that is a prequel of what’s to come, and let me tell you, I’ll be waiting on the edge of my seat. Mae was a girl who was just trying to get a job to take care of herself and her son. Atticus was a creep that took advantage of her and twisted her in to what he wanted. We briefly meet, Alexei , Ángel and Ren who all vow to help Mae, but will they be able to? And who’s agent Mitchell? I want answers and I am willing to wait because the character development was so strong that Mae is now my best friend and I need to know she’s ok. I know the wait will be worth it because Mae’s story is just beginning.
Okay, wow. This prequel novella was SO good!! Please read the trigger warnings, though. It is not for the faint of heart. I got this book as an ARC and am SO happy I did.
This book follows the FMC's, Mae, story as she is dealing with the devil she chose to help her run from her past. The MMC, Atticus is a bastard to put it nicely.
Anyways, this story is written in a way that just enough information is given for you understand what is going on, but there are still secrets and foreshadowing that made me craving more. I cannot wait for the next book.
“Mae Lennon was a fighter, whether she believed it or not.”

WOWWWZA. Did this book have me questioning my morals?! Yes it did! But I love every minute of it! Mae has been THROUGH it. She thinks that she isn’t worth much but I have feeling that she will be shown she is. This was a fast-paced, detail oriented read! Like no details left out and it has laid the foundation for the rest of the series!!! I can’t wait! I was literally screaming wanting more when I finished this one.
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Thank you H.B. Cliffy for the ARC. in response I have provided an honest review.
‼️‼️ please please check trigger warnings as this book mentions very sensitive topics
Dark, disturbing & addicting. WOW. What a prequel (of sorts) that really hit me hard and I reallllly am excited for the next one. The trigger warnings are for real, please read with caution but if you are okay with dark, this goes dark.
"Wounded Wing" serves as a tantalizing prequel to H.B. Cliffy’s gripping series, weaving together elements of mafia intrigue, BDSM, and a Stockholm syndrome-esque dynamic. The book adeptly sets the stage for a complex and thrilling tale centered around Mae, a character whose depth and resilience are foreshadowed from the very start.
Cliffy’s narrative style is both compelling and richly detailed, providing just enough breadcrumbs to keep the reader on edge, eager to discover Mae's fate. As the prelude to a larger story, "Wounded Wing" introduces us to a dark world where power and submission paint a complex network of relationships, particularly highlighting the tumultuous bond between Mae and Atticus.
The anticipation of Mae’s journey is palpable throughout the novel. Cliffy skillfully lays the groundwork for what promises to be an intense and unpredictable series. Her ability to blend dark themes with a hint of hope keeps the narrative engaging and thought-provoking.
For those intrigued by a story that promises not only twists and turns but also a deep dive into the darker sides of human nature and relationships, "Wounded Wing" and the promised subsequent series should be on your TBR. The stage is set, and I am eager to see how Mae’s story will unfold. Cliffy has indeed set the bar high with this prequel; the journey ahead is sure to be as riveting as its beginning.
*** Please read trigger warnings before reading this book ***
In this gripping tale of love, loss, and a dangerous deal with the Devil, the protagonist finds herself trapped in a life she never wanted. Stripped of her identity and forced into a role she despises, she struggles to break free from the chains that bind her. As the pressure mounts and hope begins to fade, she must decide whether to continue living a lie or risk everything for a chance at freedom. With a plot that keeps you on the edge of your seat, this book is a haunting exploration of the cost of making a deal with the Devil and the strength it takes to reclaim your own destiny.
There is so much happening in such a short book but I am excited to discover this world in the series that is to come .
Thank you for having me in your team . I totally loved it and can’t wait for more
This book is a prequel to much more that I can’t wait to read! Wounded Wing is her debut novel and I loved it! If you love dark books this one is for you. Please make sure you look at all the trigger warnings before reading, that list is long. Mae Lennon is married to the devil, a magia boss who runs a sex club. This irredeemable man is just the worst. There are other male POVs I can’t wait to see unfold when the next story is told. Over all I’d recommend this book to anyone who likes the dark books. There wasn’t any romance in this one.
4.5⭐️ I thought id mastered dark romance after bossing through hunting Adeline but this one really takes the cake!! Please check your triggers theres a lot of them in this one!!! This was such a good time it was the perfect starter book for the series. I really enjoyed getting to know all the different characters and what they do and there relation to each-other and the story of mae and her past and trauma was really touching, i felt so bad for her but also related to her in some twisted way because girl i know atticus is a dick but why is it hottt you. Tell. Me.
Wounded Wing is the prequel to what is going to be a much bigger series. In it we get a great peek at the trauma Mae, the FMC, has endured and what her life is currently like. We meet a handful of characters and all of them are so well written. I think I instantly fell in love with Alexei, Ren, and Ángel and I feel like I KNOW Mae. Atticus… well he’s Atticus. Can I hate to like him? 🤣
This book was omg. Like I never read anything like this before. It was brutal but it was good. My fave character so far is Lex. Still on the fence about the other guys. Well except Atticus and he's the Devil. Make sure you read those triggers cause there's alot. The only thing I hate is that it's a prequel. Now I gotta wait for more. I'm sure it will be worth the wait.
This little novella short but it certainly is anything but sweet. H.B. Cliffy does a good job showing just how much a human spirit can handle without being broken. This book contains many many triggers so I highly suggest you really look at them before diving in. If you are ok to forge ahead be prepared to enter a dark underworld full of pain, heartbreak, and pleasure. I think most people who like dark romance will be waiting patiently for the next installment in this series.
Um wtf lol I was just getting into the book & it ends 🥲 true heartbreak. Not going to lie, the beginning is a lil dark. Check your triggers. I wasn’t sure I was going to be able to finish BUTT THEN I kept reading & girl. girllll. i need the next book to find out what’s going on. like by tomorrow lol
Mea Broussard married the devil of Le Papillon, Atticus Lennon. He is known as Satan himself. Atticus is dark and twisted, but what happens when he pushes Mea past her limit? Wounded Wing is a disturbing dark and twisted romance part of the "World Intelligence Agency" series. It will bring on a roller-coaster of emotions, but in the end, you will be left craving more darkness and twisted games.
Wow, ♥️🤯my mind is blown!! I must say that this Prequel was intriguing af! It’s Very descriptive, the narraton was wonderfully done and just overall a good book. It’s outside of what I usually read I would say , yet I couldn’t put the book down and neither will you! Proceed with caution because it’s very Dark & also has some insane spice. From the very beginning I was anxious to read more. Mae, a young beautiful naive woman makes a deal with the devil that will cost her more than just her body but her mind also . The possessive and controlling Atticus is far from your hero, he wants to break his precious butterfly and loves to watch her melt. His pleasure, her pain but she craves him just as much as she wants through his bargain. But she will do anything to Protect Liam & now there’s others that want the Devil to pay! I Ate this book up. I also loved the playlist ♥️ I’ll be reading this series for sure. I gotta see if the devil has his day 😜 & what else unpredictable goodness will come.
What the hell did I just read?! 😱 Giving this a 4.5 and I don’t know if I’d call it spicy since it was laced with nothing but trauma , I will say it’s umm explicit. 4.5 🌶️
You can feel the trauma behind Mae, the brokenness. It oozes from her as a person. This book left so many question but set up for big things. I look forward to seeing how this why chose reverse harem situation unfold between her and the three brothers. Plus o want to know how they will end the sadistic SOB she calls a husband.
****I received an advance copy of this book for review purposes. While I was provided with a copy, a review was never required, and all opinions are my own
This was a dark and intense read. Definitely not for the faint of heart and all the trigger warnings are warranted. I wasn’t sure I could get through it as the FMC’s husband is downright cruel and sadistic. While I’m used to reading dark romance, this was a new level of dark even for me. I’m glad that I pushed through because the story starts to change after about chapter 5 in the form of three additional MMC’s who seem to have an interest in the FMC.
It’s clear the author has written this as a build-up (prequel) to a bigger storyline in subsequent books. I believe the intention of this book is to give us a no holds barred glimpse into the hell our FMC has lived through before we get a bigger story that is about her growing and healing and finding love and happiness, hopefully with the three new MMC’s.
Mae, is the FMC of this story and the premise is that she married her husband as a way to save herself and her young son from a trauma of her past. At the time, she didn’t know the true nature of her husband. Her husband is an irredeemable person who clearly targeted Mae for a reason. Those reasons seeming to be to condition her to the physical and emotional sadism of his whims.
Three male characters, Lex, Ren and Angel come onto the scene with the promise to save her from her husband. To which she reluctantly puts her faith into them to do.
The book ends on an intriguing cliffhanger. And while the subject matter in this book was difficult to digest, the author has done a wonderful job of paving the way for the FMC to achieve vengeance and finding her happiness. The path has been set, I hope we will see Mae take all the bad and trauma saddled upon her and rise from the ashes like a phoenix and be a force to be reckoned with. And praying any future love interests treat her with love and respect regardless of any kinks they may have an interest in. Nothing wrong with kinks as long as all parties are consenting, trusting and happy to engage with each other safely.
I’ll be honest and say this level of dark probably isn’t my cup of tea, but just because something isn’t for me doesn’t mean this book isn’t worth the read. The beauty in darkness, like this, is we are made to feel intense and profound emotions, sometimes uncomfortably so - pain, stress, anxiety, sadness. And a brilliant author is able to spin those and bring us on a journey of redemption along with the characters and eventually reaching a HEA. I believe H.B. Cliffy is that type of author. As a debut novel of a soon-to-be series. H.B. Cliffy has given us exceptional writing.
Check Trigger Warnings!! Characters: Mae is so feisty and it's strange to see her bow the way she does. I love how we see her holding on to her hope through the story and never letting Atticus win 100%, even if it means she's just holding on to a little bit of her pride to spite him. I really think Lex will be the one to save her and I'm so rooting for them, because they would make such a good couple.
Plot: I wasn't sure where this story was going at first. Was it extreme BDSM? Was it a kidnapping? Was Atticus the love interest? Are we supposed to like them? Those questions were cleared up very quickly. For such a short novella, there were so many emotions packed in. Sadness, anger, excitement, hope, disappointment. There are quite a few triggering scenes for people who are sensitive to physical abuse in stories, so please be aware of that. For me, those showed why Mae is so motivated to leave and made me root for her even more.
Ya’ll I was not prepared for this at all. This book was such an incredible read with such a great plot and storyline. The title of this book has got to be the best thing. Atticus was definitely not my favorite person. I may love a male character who’s rough on the outside but still sweet but ATTICUS was pure evil. I honestly believe he’s the one male character I’ve ever hated this much.
Wounded Wing describes the main female character so much. She’s a wounded warrior. Her story was so heartbreaking to the point my heart was aching for her. She went through so much trauma and I’m hoping in book two she’s able to be saved and happy.
I waited months for this arc to drop and the second it did I read this book in 2 hours. *read the trigger warnings; and read at your own risk depending on your triggers* Every chapter had me on the edge of my seat. I truly never knew what Mae’s next move was - and do not get me started of fuckhead Atticus McGee.
This is a quick read in which you should really really really think if you’re into dark books because this had my jaw on the floor!! Now it’s not all bad the plot is good honestly I’m so curious and exited to know what happens to Mae but the ending leaves in a cliffhanger 😭
What an intro to the world of the WIA HB weaved together a painful story and a villain TRULY worth hating. I am looking forward to seeing where this story will go in the next books.
And desperately hoping Atticus gets what's coming to him 😡
