While mankind was in its infancy and time was still young, Chaos flooded over the face of the ground.
Being the culmination of mankind's malice and greed, it drove even the innocent to commit heinous acts.
Those that are Higher saw the plight of man and bestowed blessings upon 12 individuals through the sacred covenant, with which they waged war against Choas.
Eventually, this council of twelve was victorious, locking Chaos away by the strength of the covenant.
And for nearly three thousand years, the Twelve reigned, and there was peace.
Until the Covenant was broken...
Rodalli, the "Blessed of the Light," refuses to believe that The Covenant could be broken. But as evidence mounts against him, he decides to seek out Those that are Higher and find answers.
His journey to their realm is met by an ancient evil, and upon arrival, what he learns changes his world forever.
There are a number of things I liked about this debut fantasy novel. I liked that it had all adult characters, and so while “clean,” it’s not necessarily oriented to a YA audience. I need more of that sort in my middle aged life! The allegorical and fantasy elements were interesting. Could use more editing. I almost dnf’d it even while well into the book—I think because it had so many shifting scenes and metaphysical dynamics that it was difficult for me to feel anchored or grounded in the story. 3.5 stars rounded up because of the solid light vs. darkness, evil vs. good theme.
