AI: Game On: How to decide who or what decides

Rate this book
Game On is written for today’s business leaders who seek to understand how AI can be leveraged for increased sustainability, improved competitive positioning and/or to drive better customer, shareholder and societal outcomes.  The aim of Game On is to help business leaders thrive in a world that is more data-driven and AI-directed,  providing readers with frameworks, methods, and real examples of constructive, ethical governance of AI deployment as well as harmful models which organisations and society must avoid.

Game On attacks the vexing and strategic dilemma for directors and executives whose job is to “decide who or what decides”.  The book answers the questions of how and why an organisation would, and could, delegate decisions to AI and explores the consequences of such decision making.    Game On strives to make sense of the trade-offs between decisions of AI and/or decisions of humans.

Game On is jam-packed with compelling use cases demonstrating how AI can break through complex and difficult business problems to create opportunities for the world that were unimaginable only twelve months ago.  Insights from Game On will prove both valuable and advantageous for leaders in commercial, government or not-for-profit sectors alike.

The world is at an inflection point - out of all the insightful takeaways I took from this book, this one jumped off the page. Tim's stark warning to business leaders is that failing to use data to understand the unmet future needs of customers creates an opportunity for competitors who can. Businesses large and small are finding their business models challenged by predictive organisations with AI strategies that leverage data to create a competitive advantage that can expand exponentially. The list of Fortune 500 customers has been upended in two decades and is today dominated by data-driven organisations such as Amazon, Alphabet/Google and Apple. Much of AI: GAME ON focuses on understanding the potential of proprietary data that businesses have acquired over time, the use case, and ethics that must be upheld to realise the upside by providing reciprocal benefits to customers while retaining trust.
While Tim says he will leave it to others to look over the horizon, he provides a glimpse of some emerging risks, particularly where AI is embedded into an organisation's key decision-making process. The notion that ‘who or what decides is the decision of our time’ is a wake-up call to all business leaders, and for those wondering where to begin, start with this book! AI: GAME ON - five stars!
