The Belladonna Series has very easily become one of my most favorites, I’ve fallen in love with these books. 💜

Intanto, qualcuno sta uccidendo gli spiriti e spezzando il ciclo della vita 🔥💀: le anime non trovano pace e i mondi dei vivi e dei morti si stanno destabilizzando. Qui entra in scena Fato, fratello di Morte, che cerca di conquistare Signa per vendetta verso il fratello, colpevole di avergli portato via sua moglie Vita anni prima. 💔 Ma Fato è anche mosso dalla speranza di ritrovare un legame con il suo passato, e su questa speranza si sviluppa gran parte della trama.
Avevamo già conosciuto Blythe 👒 in Belladonna, dove combatteva tra la vita e la morte a causa di un veleno. ☠️ In Foxglove, però, non è più solo la ragazza malata da proteggere: inizia a farsi valere. Più lucida di quanto sembri, rappresenta ciò che Signa non potrà mai avere davvero: una vita normale, almeno così pensa. Tuttavia la vita di Blythe si complica quando si vede costretta a difendere la propria famiglia: il padre Elijah viene accusato di omicidio. Nel tentativo di salvarlo dalla condanna si vede costretta a chiedere aiuto e a scendere a patti con Fato. 🙈
Nel capitolo finale della trilogia - Wisteria - Blythe sposa Fato (conosciuto nel mondo mortale come Aris Dryden). 💍
Tra loro si accende una chimica esplosiva: un perfetto "enemies to lovers" 🔥❤️. Mentre Blythe cerca di rendere la tenuta di Wisteria Gardens più accogliente per sé e per l’arrivo del padre 🏡, scopre il ritratto di Vita e la stanza dove Aris tesse i suoi arazzi — arazzi che stabiliscono il destino delle persone. 🎭
Ma strani eventi si susseguono, e un nuovo personaggio, Caos, fa la sua comparsa. Convinta che Blythe sia la figlia di Rima Farrow (la madre di Signa) e che abbia ereditato i suoi poteri, Caos arriva a sconvolgere il corso del destino, cambiato dalle scelte di Blythe nel secondo volume. Perchè Blythe sarebbe dovuta morire.
In tutto ciò Signa, ormai pronta a ereditare la sua tenuta di famiglia, si trova nella casa infestata dai fantasmi, che lei percepisce come reali grazie ai suoi poteri di traghettatrice di anime, e inizia a studiare insieme a Morte i diari della madre, scopre qualcosa che forse avremmo potute capire prima.
⚠️ PLOT TWIST: Blythe Hawthorne è la reincarnazione di Vita! 😱 Blythr accetta molto facilmente il suo destino e i poteri che ne derivano. Tuttavia, si sta indebolendo e Fato si sacrifica per salvarla. 🤍 (so cuteeeeee 😍) Nonostante la sua morte lasci un vuoto immenso nel cuore di Blythe, la speranza che il loro amore continui oltre la morte persiste. Ed è così che dopo molti anni i due si ritrovano. 🦊

A solid 3 stars from me—it’s a well written young adult gothic fantasy with a fascinating premise. The immaturity of the execution and the predictability of the plot make it clear that this is very much a young adult book.
Let’s start with the positives: The atmosphere is lush and dripping with gothic elegance. The haunting estates, the poison-laced intrigue, and the supernatural elements—especially Signa’s connection to Death—had the potential to create a darkly intoxicating tale. Signa herself is an interesting protagonist in theory, orphaned and immune to death, but in execution, she often feels frustratingly naive. She stumbles through the mystery with more luck than skill, and while that works for a coming-of-age story, it makes her feel passive rather than truly cunning or powerful.
Then there’s the romance. The concept of falling for Death? Intriguing. Death is brooding and mysterious in the way YA love interests often are, but his and Signa’s connection feels rushed and inevitable rather than earned.
And speaking of predictability—this book doesn’t exactly keep you guessing. The mystery elements feel like they’re following a script, and any seasoned fantasy or mystery reader will likely see the twists coming a mile away. The narrative holds your hand a little too much, which makes sense given the younger YA audience, but for readers looking for a more sophisticated gothic fantasy, it might feel underwhelming.
I will say that 15 years ago I would have given this book 4 stars and continued on to Book 2, Foxglove. As a 30 year old, however, I'm going to move on to another title.

We are never too old for fairytales and The Belladonna Series is a young adult series filled with mystery, gothic vibes and romance! I went into this series blindly and finished it in one go.
Signa and her cousin Blythe are two strong girls that fight for their lives and their happily ever after. There are murders, beautiful gowns and magic. I don’t want to spoil anything about the story itself but I loved the atmospheric set and all the twists and turns.
Signa and Blythe are different to each other as also their love interests and I admired the fact that there is parallelism between them and lightness and darkness. No character is just good or bad but they are multidimensional.
I loved the most the spooky background ; it is like you are transferred into a dark fairytale where everything turns upside down but you root for the characters until the end.
My only complaint is the end of the series which is a little bittersweet but we are getting a Christmas novella, so hopefully our hearts will mend!
