About the author

G.T. Karber grew up in a small town in Arkansas, the son of a judge and a civil rights attorney. He graduated summa cum laude from the University of Arkansas with a degree in mathematics and English literature. Then, he moved to Los Angeles, where he received a Masters in Fine Arts from the University of Southern California’s School of Cinematic Arts.

As the General Secretary of the Hollywood Mystery Society, a theater ensemble and cinematic social club, he has overseen the staging of more than 30 immersive whodunits in the LA area. His first feature film, Killer Party, a horror-comedy-musical-whodunit he co-wrote and directed, is currently in post-production with plans to premiere in festivals in 2023.

MURDLE Junior to część serii książek z zagadkami. Tym razem jest to zbiór 40 zagadek logicznych, dostosowanych poziomem trudności do dzieci (8-12lat). Razem z czterema młodymi detektywami, tworzącymi Klub Młodych Detektywów, dziecko musi rozwiązać ich śledztwa.

Zarówno w wersji dla dorosłych jak i w tej dla dzieci, charakterystyczne są tu do uzupełniania diagramy. Żeby wspomóc nas w rozwiązaniu zagadek, mamy pewne poszlaki, dowody rzeczowe czy tropy, które mogą doprowadzić do rozwiązania.
Na rozwiązanie czeka aż 5 różnych spraw, każda podzielona na 8 części.
Książka ma ciekawą fabułę i zachęca do logicznego myślenia. To idealne połączenie nauki i rozrywki!
W razie trudności, książka zawiera podpowiedzi i rozwiązania, ale oczywiście warto najpierw spróbować własnych sił w rozwiązaniu zagadek!
Myślę, że to idealna książka dla dzieci, które nie lubią nudy i uwielbiają przygody!

A solid murder mystery puzzlebook! Good for kids and adults. I enjoyed that we followed four separate detectives and learned their strengths and styles before all uniting on one main mystery path. The inclusion of a personality-type quiz to figure out what kind of detective you are at the end of the puzzle book was a fun addition. If you're used to Karber's non-jr. Murdles, then you'll be able to breeze through this one; HOWEVER, there's still enough humor and plot to keep you engaged. As an avid Murdle-er, it is my goal to work through every puzzle book Karber has published, and this one is no disappointment. Highly recommend any of these if you need an active way to unwind.

I am not the age demographic for Murdle Jr., but I am one of the most passionate Murdle enthusiasts on the planet, so it was no question to read this as well.
I don't have as much to say as I do for the main series, since again I'm not part of the age range, but I absolutely want kids to become familiar with Karber's work and love this series as much as I do.
While mostly separate, there are some sudden twists that fans of the main series will love. I recommend adult fans to check it out as well - the puzzles are obviously much easier, but there are surprises in the storyline.

I'll be reading the whole Murdle Jr. spinoff series <3

I'm about to admit something deeply embarrassing for a puzzle aficionado: I think regular Murdle is too hard. Perhaps that is not even the best way to describe my reservations regarding the online game. I just think that certain information is implied in a way that requires a leap of deduction far too great for any puzzle that purportedly relies on logic. For an example from a recent mini-Murdle, we're told that the murder occurred in a historic building. Of the three possible locations, one is the history building with "so much history that you spend most of the history classes studying it" (so an obvious candidate) while another is The Old Main, which is described as "The first building on campus, the most important, and the least maintained." That sounds like a very historic building to me but was not, apparently, a plausible answer according to the site. Perhaps I am being overly pedantic, but that's the kind of thing that bugs me enough to make me decline to add Murdle to the list of quick brainteaser games I play on the daily.

Luckily, Murdle Jr. does not seem to have this problem, at least not in this first volume of the series geared towards Junior Detectives. In a book of 40 puzzles, there was only one that I thought relied on an assumption that was not necessarily founded in the text. Otherwise I had no quibble with the logic of it all. Perhaps more importantly, having all the puzzles tied together with an overarching story very much enhances the charm of the book, as we get to know our four budding sleuths and follow along as they solve dastardly crimes, both individually and together.

G T Karber's humor and wit really shine when all the puzzles and their accompanying stories are packaged together like this. The diverse cast each has their own areas of expertise: Jake is the tough gumshoe, Julius is the esoteric thinker, Olivia is a tech whiz, and Buster McPaws is, well, a cat. Their background chapters are appropriately atmospheric, and the big adventure when they all come together super fun, with plenty of callbacks to characters and locations that will delight fans of the original website, too. The format of the book also feels more intuitive than the format of the online version, as you can see almost all the information by category at a glance, instead of needing to click on individual cards on the website.

I actually used to do loads of logic puzzle books when I was a young teen. I would have been so thrilled to have a book like this back then, and I'm super looking forward to handing this volume over to my kids next. I confess to having solved the puzzles by drawing quick grids in a thematic little notebook emblazoned with the words "Top Secret" instead of filling out the book itself, as I was already planning to leave it pristine for the next reader.

Finally, I want to say how much I appreciate the little extras at the end of the book. The Detective Exam tells me I'm mostly an Olivia, with equal parts Buster and Julius, and just a smidge of Jake. I genuinely can't wait to see what the gang does next in the follow-up book of the series, Ready, Set, Solve! as well as in the accompanying novelization, Sleuths On The Loose. This is definitely a must-buy for any kid who loves solving mysteries and puzzles (and for some adults, too!)

Karber, mistrz dedukcji i łamigłówek, zaprasza młodszych czytelników do świata pełnego intrygujących spraw w książce „Murdle Junior. Wyzwania dla dociekliwych”.

Czy jest to tytuł godny wstąpienia do Klubu Detektywów? Przekonajmy się.

Jake, Olivia, Julius i wyjątkowy koci asystent, Buster McPazur, tworzą zespół, który z niejednym śledztwem poradziłby sobie lepiej niż niejeden dorosły inspektor. Każdy z nich ma unikalne umiejętności: Olivia to prawdziwa geniuszka, Jake cechuje się niezwykłą dociekliwością, Julius ufa intuicji, a Buster... cóż, jego kocie oko wychwyci szczegóły, które umknąłby nawet Sherlockowi Holmesowi. „Murdle Junior. Wyzwania dla dociekliwych” to wspaniała propozycja spędzania czasu z dzieckiem.

Książka rozpoczyna się przystępną instrukcją, tak by każdy zrozumiał w jaki sposób rozwiązywać diagramy, szukać tropów i na jakie szczegóły potrzebne sprawie zwrócić uwagę. Jeśli coś sprawi szczególną trudność, to na końcu znajdują się odpowiedzi.

Następnie poznajemy czwórkę sympatycznych bohaterów. Każde z nich prowadziło własne śledztwo, a na końcu łączą siły by prowadzić wspólnie sprawę. Wszystkie sprawy podzielone są na odcinki.

Każda ze spraw ma również lekki zarys fabuły, a wraz z nią pojawia się aż 40 zagadek do rozwiązania o różnym poziomie trudności. Oczywiście zaczynamy od najłatwiejszego by się nie zniechęcić, ale żeby też zwiększyć apetyt na więcej. Do każdej sprawy dołączone są poszlaki i wskazówki, a także lista miejsc, osób podejrzanych i opis zdarzenia.

Każdy mały odkrywca będzie zachwycony móc prowadzić własne śledztwo oraz wcielić się w rolę detektywa 🕵️‍♀️ Dodatkowym atutem będzie użycie lustra do odczytu pewnej wskazówki, dorosły poradzi sobie bez rekwizytu, ale myślę, że dla dzieci będzie to dodatkowa frajda. Kilka zagadek zapisana jest szyfrem, który trzeba odkryć by dowiedzieć się co zawiera 🔍

Na końcu czeka egzamin na detektywa i możliwość zdobycia odznaki oraz karty członkowskiej Klubu Detektywa 😃

„Murdle Junior” to zbiór 40 zagadek logicznych dla młodszych detektywów. Mamy tutaj czterech detektywów: Jake, Juliusa, Bustera McPazura (który jest kotem) oraz Olivię. Każdy z nich ma inne zdolności, które pomagają im w rozwiązywaniu zagadek. Jake jest dociekliwa, Julius kieruje się głównie intuicją, Buster McPazur jest niezwykle spostrzegawczy, a Olivia to geniuszka. Każdy z nich musiał stawić czoła pewnej zagadce samodzielnie, żeby dołączyć do Klubu Detektywów i później wspólnymi siłami rozwiązać kolejną sprawę.

Książka zawiera 5 spraw po 8 części, w których rozwiązujemy zagadki logiczne i tym samym odkrywamy kolejne poszlaki. Rozwiązania do poprzedniej zagadki znajdują się w następnej, ale napisane do góry nogami, dzięki czemu nie ma ryzyka, że odkryjemy coś przez przypadek, a jednocześnie nie musimy szukać rozwiązań z tyłu książki, lecz płynnie przejść do dalszej części historii.

„Murdle Junior” w moim odczuciu nadają się nie tylko dla dzieci, ale również dla dorosłych, sama się bardzo dobrze z nimi bawiłam. Zagadki są rozmaite i bardzo ciekawe, a także całkiem dobrze rozwinięta i poprowadzona fabuła. Szata graficzna wewnątrz książki również przyciąga uwagę i sprawia, że z zainteresowaniem śledzimy każdą zagadkę.

I can’t say how many times I have found my daughter completely absorbed in a puzzle, determined to solve the crimes. She’s been working her way through the cases, solving mysteries, and loving every minute of it. Now her twin brother is waiting patiently for his turn so he can jump in and crack some cases on his own. I think it’s safe to say these two have formed a detective team, and in the process, also been using their reading and analytical skills trying to solve the cases. It has been fun watching my 12 yr olds immersed in a mystery book for hours.

Three kids and one cat have been recruited to see if they have what it takes to junior detectives. Follow the cases they solved to see if you have what it takes to become a junior detective too. I thought it was going to be different types of puzzles, not just deduction grids. Enjoyable for kids who like mysteries and puzzles.

Rock solid kids mystery and logic puzzle. High stakes enough to keep middle schoolers engaged, but not too hard (so as to defeat them). Would 100% recomend to families and educators. Can't wait to adapt it for my puzzle club.

Obviously, with a name like MURDLE JUNIOR, this book is not aimed at adults. It takes the logic puzzle premise of the main series and adapts it for children I'd say are in the upper middle grade range (~10-12). Yes, they are a lot simpler than the ones in the older books, but a very nice way to introduce kids to this sort of logic puzzle.

The story itself, though, felt like it has more invested in it. The descriptive sections before and after felt like there were more details (and you weren't being asked to think outside the box as much to connect seemingly random facts about paint or whatnot over many puzzles.) I found it more satisfying a story overall than some of the recent adult MURDLE books.

There are some familiar faces back to say hello, but the focus is on the four new detectives. I liked the range of detective types they represented. There's the tech-y one, the impulsive action one, and so on.
