Landscapes are continually changing as a result of human intervention in natural processes. Both intensive and extensive land uses are expressed in the structure of the land, the size of the parcels and the area of natural and semi-natural vegetation that is present. The task facing ecologists, conservationists, planners, decision-makers and others involved with these changes is to find the best methods for maintaining landscape diversity. Representing an important step forward for regional and inter-regional development of integrated landscape ecological research in the field of land use changes, this volume includes discussion of many problems related to this area. The research papers and case studies featured in Consequences of Land Use Changes were originally presented at a symposium which formed part of the Seventh International Congress on Ecology.
