A consummate professional, Lilly Worthington, has been personal assistant to CEO, Monroe StoneCrow for years. In that time, she’s witnessed much that leads her to believe there is something strange about Monroe and his staff. Tight-lipped and unwilling to rock the boat, Lilly performs her duties with skilled efficiency. Nothing could make her falter from her schooled indifference to the odd occurrences that plague StoneCrow…that is until King Mulholland arrives.
After years of being surrounded by Monroe’s gorgeous staff, Lilly is disconcerted to find that she cannot shake her attraction to King. Worse, he’s assigned as Monroe’s Chief of Security meaning he’s constantly in her presence. The distraction of King coupled with sudden threats at home has Lilly wondering if the two aren’t somehow connected. Are Monroe and King hiding something?
Skin Walker, King Mulholland, is called home to repay a debt to his friend, and Dominant Skin Walker, Monroe StoneCrow. Determined to even the field and then move on, King goes to great lengths to avoid Monroe’s machinations where pairing Walkers is concerned. Only two things stand between King and his freedom: Monroe’s scheming, and Lilly Worthington.
Inexplicably drawn to Monroe’s personal assistant, King is certain Monroe is somehow to blame. King struggles to fight his urges where Lilly is concerned; however, when Lilly is attacked all bets are off. Single-minded, feral, possession consumes him and his need to protect Lilly begins to outweigh his desire to play hardball with Monroe.
When King is finally stricken with what Monroe calls the affliction, King is more than ready to claim his angel…he is eager!
My pack territory is in Central Montana, between Stone Crow Estates and the North Fortress. Born and raised in an untamed location that bridges the gap between rolling prairies and majestic mountain peaks, I am born to a family that also bridges the gap between cultures. My father’s people boast a fiercely proud Scandinavian ancestry while my mother’s tribes descend from two savagely beautiful and unique nations (White Clay and Nakoda) that inspire my Skin Walker series.
I'm a huge fan of MMA, boxing, 30 Seconds to Mars, DMX, Nahko and Medicine for the People, and 21 Pilots (“…sometimes quiet is violent”). I also love to read because it encourages me to write. (I hate it when authors add that they love coffee and chocolate. Really? Who doesn't love coffee and chocolate?) Anyway, I love beer...kidding. I don't love beer but we are engaged in a very serious relationship. (Mom, please don't call me when you read this.)
Please leave feedback….well, only if it’s positive. “Keep in mind that I’m an artist and I’m sensitive about my shit! (Erykah Badu lyrics!)

I had such high hopes for this book, only to be shot down in a blaze of glory. I had so many issues while reading the book.
1) WHY IS EVERYONE YELLING AT ME? Seriously, the author went crazy with the all caps key. Characters don't need to yell at me to emphasize a point. That's what italics is for.
2) Where did the time go? This book skipped through time like no one's business. How did we get from point A to point Q? I don't know, because apparently the other letters don't matter.
3) Can I get some mood stabilizers here? These characters switched their standings so fast that I found myself getting whiplash. Yes, I totally agree with you. You go girl! Wait. What did you just say? The complete opposite of what you adamantly believed 3 seconds ago? No, you didn't? What? You're back to believing the first thing again? Oh wait, sorry, no you're not? I must be the one confused.
4) I would like a side of betrayal with my betrayal, please. There's so much deceiving going on throughout the entire book. Seriously, what best friend experiments on their best friend continuously without their knowledge? Not a spoiler, freaking know about it in the first chapter. I don't care how much you shove the reason down my throat, it's still wrong! You're a doctor for crying out loud!
What's wrong with these people? I know this is a work of fiction, but I like realism in my story. No sane person would act like these characters. The main guy King, I felt he was out of character for the last 95% of the book. Why would I think that you ask? Because he goes from this macho military soldier to a blubbering fangirl. He is all up Lilly's ass and I sit here thinking "what the hell happened to the strong alpha male we first met?" Don't even get me started on Lilly.
This sucks because I really liked the author's concept. It's just the execution of the story that killed it. So disappointed.

Lilly and King. I had a hard time starting this book because it begins with Jenny's confession to the reader that she is using her friends and coworkers as guinea pigs. Like some kinda Nazi doctor. I never liked Jenny's character in the other books, and safe to say, I now despise her. But anyways, try not to let her actions bother you too much or get in the way of enjoying the MCs and their troubled romance. King arrives at the compound as the new chief of security and right away he and Lilly are strongly attracted to each other. But the smooth path of their mating is ruined by Jenny's secret manipulation of their symptoms. Lilly is not stupid, and she's been there for 5 years. Even though she is kept in the dark about their paranormal nature, she's already figured most of it out on her own. But she thinks of them as honorable and decent people and so keeps their secrets. But their secrets may bring her harm and where is King when she needs him? This was a bit of a tear jerker, but don't worry, there's a good HEA! Call me a sicko, but King's gift was just so horribly romantic! You'll understand when you read it ; ) I gotta say, I'm never crazy about this author's writing style, it's a little jerky and uneven and sometimes illogical, but I love her imagination.
The storyline for this book had so much potential but I think the author really took too many outs or shortcuts to finish the story. The book is not listed as part of the Skin Walker’s series though I am sure it’s supposed to be. The CEO Monroe is book 3 of Skin Walkers but the book makes no mention that he’s mated so I don’t know where this story fits. If it’s a prequel to the series it was dreadfully done as very little was explained and the world was very sparse.
Some of the shortcuts she took I didn’t like was how the heroine was shot and had to have a hysterectomy and the first time she had sex with her mate not only could she now bare children but she is now pregnant. It was stretching quite a bit in my opinion and she should have either not had that happen or had the characters deal with her not being able to carry a child. Not viola! Magic super sperm…
The next thing I didn’t like was the fact that there is an aggressive rancher out there that wants to kill the native wolves because they’re killing his cattle. Until near the end of the book, he is just stalking the heroine but then he ambushes her on her way to work and shoots up her car. The whole thing makes no sense, though the author did hint that the mysterious enemy of the skin walkers paid the rancher. Question 1: Why? Question 2: Why her? She’s not a skin walker and they don’t know she’s a mate.
Finally, her close friend who is the surgeon onsite has found her mate but is afraid to be a mate, though it doesn’t really explain why she’s so afraid and it should have been because she goes to the extreme measure of using her close friend as a lab rat in a genetic experiment to see if she can keep two mates apart. What friend of any level would do something like that? I would not want a friend like that and I had absolutely no respect or love for the surgeon. Now if there is a truly good reason (though I can’t imagine a good enough reason) to do what she did it should have been explained.
I MIGHT read Conn’s book to see if anything makes sense but I don’t hold out much hope.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
Skin walker King Mulholland dreaded the day that he knew CEO Monroe StoneCrow would call in his marker. Now King is headed to lead the security team for the community Monroe is building. Instantly drawn to Monroe's personal assistant Lilly Worthington, King is not sure why. He questions that she could possibly be his mate, but in order to be he would have a sure sign or would he? Little do King and Lilly know that someone has tampered with the mating scent and it will take them being in very close quarters for King to realize who Lilly really is to him.
Excellent story, I did have one glaring question at the end I would have liked answered. King is pure alpha, he has a very strong personalty and it confuses Lilly at times. Lilly is headstrong and smarter than they gave her credit for. I am hoping that the situation that kept King and Lilly apart is addressed in one of the future books.
This is a Kindle unlimited book and I have wanted to read this book for a while so happy days. 3 Stars.
I'm not really sure how to feel about this book. The plot is great and it is different. Lily Worthington has worked for StoneCrow for 5 years now. Lily has noticed strange activity but has never said anything.
Monroe StoneCrow set up the facility for the Skinwalkers although he said the it is a Wildlife Reserve. Monroe is a git and is focused on only what is important for his people.
Jenny the doctor also wasn't one of my favorites at all as she used Lily and King to her own advantage and a doctor should do that.
King Mulholland owes Monroe a debt and it is that time to pay the debt off. Lily is King's mate. There were sad moments and I really felt for Lily.
I really don't if I'll continue the series. I'm really on the fence with this one.
Walkers know how to make a room go silent, and women go all gaga, and Lilly is no exception to that especially where King is concerned, "oh," Lilly's expression turned regretful," of course he is. Look at him. He can womanize me anytime." The man was a beast." And King he has it hard for his Lilly, "guarding your body is something I find myself more inclined to do with each passing day." And he doesn't take interruptions very wells especially if he's with his woman, "let him effing wait!" The words left King on a deep growl." And he's not stupid he knows his girl craves for him, "do you think I don't see you watching me? I can feel your eyes on me. I know what it is you want, Lilly, and I will gladly give it to you. You have but to ask." I can't wait to see whose next in the series.
The cover has great abs. The book's story needs to do some more crunches.
The beginning of this book is super confusing, not knowing what's going on & what a skin walker is.
The timeline skips in this book almost without telling you it has done so or what happened during said time period. Present.....4wks later & no knowledge of the gaps.
The "best friend" is like that evil Hitler doctor who experimented on people. If Jenny hadn't mucked everything up in the beginning for King & Lilly w/her serum, I doubt Lily would've been hurt. And no comeuppance for the doc lady!
The 2 main characters didn't keep steady personas. Way too schizo.
The idea of the skin walkers was interesting, so I'll try another book in this series.
'kay I lol'd... repeatedly!! Despite that, there are some things in the book that are just redonkulous - angels, halos, really? Also there was way too much tell and not enough show, e.g. This is a dog. This person loves the dog. You should be happy that the person loves the dog. - Not quite *that* bad but still... Definitely potential though, and I appreciated the lol's.
So short, sweet, sexy, Skin Walker, Susan Bliler, so the 5 "S"s what else do you need?
Sticking with the S theme Song Choice: "Swing, Swing" by All American Rejects, "Shelter" cover by Birdy originally done by The Xx
First Thoughts: I love everything Susan writes, I really do, I think its just fantastic. This was no exception I loved this book...for the most part. What I do have to say though is that....when the hell was this happening? O.o. If you have read any of the previous books we already know who has been mated, and I get there were clues in the book telling you the time this book was placed, but unfortunately with the add-ins of hand-held e-tablets, I was a little thrown every time I was going oh okay so this was before Conn, before Monroe, before Leto...So YES there are clues that tell you, and yes i will admit its probably my own fault as well I am HORRIBLE with names if Lilly shown up in the other books as King's mate *swosh* right over my head. <3 <3 Still enjoyed it though.
Thoughts on Plot: I thought that this was very different from the other books in the Skin Walker Series which all seem to be a bit more heavy on the action part - which don't get me wrong i LOVE, but this was a little more subdue. I think that this book could have been expanded on with the relationship between King and Lilly, but it wasn't totally like lacking in chemistry - actually it was anything but lacking, I just thought a little further development could have been done. So while this won't be classed as my favorite Susan book - that will always be Territory as it was my first Susan book, I still did love her amazing style. There was some action in this book so don't get all confused, but this is where i also had a problem with the timeline IF i am remembering correctly a new "villain" was introduced in Leto's book - yes...that had Shy in it. Anyways but unfortunately they were also part of this book but never part of other books and that causes a bit of a problem when procressing with series then doing a prequel to others - now me personally I don't care, I will accept it as it is, and you know what i might be a big liar pants, but since what i do with my time is read, I have read quite a few books between now and Monroe's which was the last to release, let along Leto's book. So maybe i am wrong and please feel free to call me out if I am and be like "bitch re-read blahblahblah books then proceed to shake your head at me" Anyways I did love the pace of this book, the characters mixed really well, it was my Susan crack that will keep going until I get York's book or Gauge's - yes because I have decided what book she will release next and that is that. so... :P
Characters:
Lilly: King:
Lilly: She was fierce with a heart of gold. She was a little bit of both this don't you dare fucking mess with me mama bear, and this sweet little pup that needed to be looked after. She would throw me through a couple hundred loops when i thought she would fight she backed down, she i thought she would back down she fought. I thought she was a very interesting character who did whatever it took to get what she wanted, information, other things, and other things. She was protective, but kind as well.
King: HOLY GOD I NEEDED HIM. I was looking for an over the top, hot, HOT HOT HOT, Alpha male type and he DID NOT DISAPPOINT. Damn this man make me want to tear him a new one then excuse my lack of better terms - jump him. Seriously *fans self* thank you Susan. Hahaha, he is hard, on the outside, never willing to back down and while he said some INSANELY sexists things in the beginning of the book i quickly forgot about them and was picking my jaw off the ground and wiping away drool. Sexy, dominant man.
the ending all good, all good. Give me York's book, or Gauge's i would be totally right with either one of theirs, but seriously... GIMMIE!
I absolutely LOVE Susan's stories. And because I truly respect Susan, I won't hide my true feelings on why I can only give this one only "3" stars. (Well, I actually ALWAYS tell the truth when I write my reviews. But I didn't want to write this review because I didn't want to offend her. But, I know she would appreciate this honesty. I hope. lol) There were a few things that caused me to be confused and filling a little empty with some holes from the story. Not to mention a few times the typos threw me way off the story to the point I had to reread a few areas over to try to understand what was really meant.
Here are the things that made it difficult:
* This should have been the first book released in the SW series. OR It should be a Prequel, OR there should be a little blurb stating this is a flash back for someone OR just simply stating this is an earlier story. It is plain to see that this is definitely not in order of the series and it is quite confusing at first. I had to start reading it all over when I finally figured it out.
***SPOILER ALERT*** (I "hate" doing these things but feel it it necessary at this point.)
* I found it quite difficult to believe or be comfortable with someone demanding their boss to "order" someone to have sex with them. (Maybe it's just me, and that's okay too.)
* There should have been a little bit more information on the history behind Lilly and her attackers to help explain why they disliked each other. Also, a little bit more explanation on her attacker in general because Monroe had stated that her attack wasn't personal and yet King stated he "scented anger directed at Lilly" where she was attacked. Why was he so angry? Was he actually aiming for her? Did he think she was a Walker or someone protecting Walkers and therefore needed to be punished? Etc..
***END OF SPOILER ALERT***
* I normally don't really care if there are typos, but a few times I had to literally stop and reread some areas to try and understand what Susan was trying to say. (Example: There is a part where Lilly was supposedly talking but Jenny's name was there instead. There are a couple of areas where it said "he" instead of "she" and vice versa. Etc..) Like I said, normally no big deal, but it took me out of the story too many times. If you are a picky grammatical type of reader, you will probably not like reading it for that reason alone, but I will stress this - It is STILL a good story!!
I hope those reasons I have of only putting "3" stars don't come across as nit picking. Because like I mentioned earlier, I didn't want to write this review, but felt I owed it to Susan and other readers to explain.
With THAT said, I do want to stress that even though there a things that disappointed me in this one, it still was an overall good story and I am still looking forward to all the rest in this series!! You still have your normal Susan yummy dominant, ego carrying, sexy as all Hell Walker who wants his Angel. But doesn't "really" want her. You also have your female who is in denial and fights against him. You have a little action, suspense, sex scenes, some humor and more. So, you won't be disappointed with any of that!
I still recommend this read. IF you haven't started reading this series, start with this one then go on to the so called 1st one released. If you have read the others in this series, you will still appreciate this one. I am sooooo looking forward to seeing what happens with Cindy and Redknife!! Also, Shy and York. HELL! I can't wait for all of them to come out. So, start-a-typing Susan! You have a large order to fill. :-)
King the first book in Susan Bliler's series Skink Walker had a very interesting twist compared to all the shifter stories on the market - and I was on a look for exactly that.
Lilly Worthington, has been personal assistant to CEO, Monroe StoneCrow for years.
Only two things stand between King and his freedom: Monroe’s scheming, and Lilly Worthington
Monoe StoneCrow, the alpha of the Skin Walker wanted a place where they could be safe and have families since their race was losing numbers. He brings in King to help him with the security of the place and unknowingly starts the events put in place by Jenny. Jenny the resident doctor and Skin Walker as well, didn't want to be mated and that started as a way to keep her mate away ended with her using Lily and King to her own advantage. There was instant attraction between Lilly (Monroe's assistant) and King but both of them stayed away. With Lilly's accident their relationship grew until King claimed Lilly.
So, I love the idea behind and the new shape shifters alpha sweet guys. Shifters being able to turn in different animals, the Halo around a mate's neck as well was a good addition. I'm not really sure how to feel about this book and story because there was not that much for me to read even though it had enough plot and characters to be great. It was to short!!!! To top it up was so different than other stories that it was disappointing that I didn't get more. But because it is the first book that Susan Bliler wrote (I would take a guess) than the series have the possibility of something great. I am looking forward to Conn's story.
First read for me by this author, this is well written with plenty of detail. Skin Walkers live among humans, and for the most part they manage to keep their existance a secret. Lilly has worked for Monroe StoneCrow for five years. It has not escaped her notice during that time that there were things going on that just weren't right, that lead Lilly to believe that most of the people living and working at StoneCrow Estates were not human. When her boss hires King Mulholland as head of security, Lilly is immediately attracted to him.
King Mulholland is not happy having been summoned to work for Monroe, but he owes Monroe a debt, so agrees to stay for a year. King tries to ignore his attraction to Lilly and not just because she's a human, he has no time for relationships. But when Lilly is threatened he jumps in to protect her.
A very nice read, that introduces skin walkers who seem to be a mix of a number of paranormal creatures they have fangs like vampires and are able to shift as well. I will certainly read more from this series. My only complaint is I felt the relationship between King and Lilly was rushed, there was a lot else going on which meant pages dedicated to them were limited.
An entirely new race of beings has just made it’s way to the written page. The Skin Walkers are here to stay! They are the perfect alpha males who are looking for their Angel to complete them. King and Lilly are the first Walker pairing we get the opportunity to fall in love with. This story is sure to bring you laughter, tears and love as they face hardships and wonder in their path to each other. Once you delve between the pages you will find a book you will want to read again and again. I can’t wait to see what is next for the Skin Walkers and their Angels.
King is the first volume in Skin Walkers series. Since the first pages, i decided that I will not give up this series and I will read each volume. Like the other series by Susan, this one is full of sexy scenes, a protective alpha, a stubborn heroine and the happy ending as I like. Can't wait to read the next volume. My advice for future readers is to give a chance to this series and you will get in love with the alpha males and with their leader.
I wasn't sure about going backwards in this series considering the first three books King and Lilly were already together, but it was actually really good.
Munroe is still not my favourite, but Jenny was top of my list this time for her selfish behaviour.
I did love this one when i was reading the others i wanted to know about king and Lilly and now i want to read about Jenny's story and hmmm killsenemy so if your reading this please write those two books as well :)
I loved the story. I have read a few of the others the problem I have is I am having a hard time following the plot onCon's story cause there is a missing story with mason and remy. And what about Redknife????
At first I was incredibly confused as the author dove right into the story and it made it seemed like it was a continuation of another story, but as it went on she explained more and more and I found I really liked this story can't wait to read more.
Great start to this series. The characters are engaging and the storyline was interesting and easy to follow. I loved the twists and turns throughout and couldn’t put the book down. Although it is a paranormal book it’s not so heavy that it should put anyone off. Great read for anyone
OMG! I don't have the words to describe just how bad this book actually is
I can't say no plot spoilers because if I did I wouldn't have anything to say about the book. First off, skin walkers is a great idea, the execution of that idea totally fails to make the cut. In what world would a surgeon conduct experiments on unsuspecting people? Well scratch that, there are plenty of examples of disreputable doctors, but in this instance the doctor is supposed to love her friend, doesn't stop the experiment, in fact there isn't even any angst about it, just full steam ahead. Then there is the unpleasant boss who really needs a good kicking. He isn't enigmatic and dominant, he's a bully. As for the ML King, there's no continuity of character whatsoever, the FL, Lilly is a doormat. We are meant to believe that the all consuming mating call is in play yet he spends barely any time with her, there is absolutely zero sexual tension and the claiming scene is more like rape. Then there is the whole concept of spending one night together where her uterus grows back thanks to his magic sperm and next morning she's pregnant and it shows in bloodwork straight away. For gods sake, do some effin research before you write the book. Better yet, take a few writing classes and learn more about character development and hopefully plotting a decent storyline. How anyone can award more than one star as a rating is beyond me and I'm only giving that because Amazon require a rating when leaving a review. Seriously, if I could delete it from my kindle I would.
I didn’t feel there was any romance in it. There was one doctor who was chemically manipulating the couple to NOT be together. Then the story was written with time gaps where weeks went by that was not shown to the reader. Then the female lead was injured so severely that her only hope for healing was to force the male lead to sleep with her but she had no intention of being with him, granted out of emotional fear of rejection but still no intention of being with him. So they hook up and BANG(!) she’s healed and they are mated and the book is over! In all they had like 2 encounters in the whole book that was just “them” interacting before the sex scene. Smh.
Like I said it was interesting but only because it was a new twist on a paranormal romance I haven’t read before. The doctor’s game made no sense to the story. The doctor did experiments on her patients that they didn’t agree to and was actively keeping a mated pair apart against her employers obvious plans to create a community. At the end the doctor felt relieved that the couple had gotten together because she didn’t have a secret anymore. I’m confused as to why the doctor would think that when the secret is still there!
There were also grammatical errors. They were minor but still annoying. I will continue with this series because I found the new paranormal twist interesting enough to see where it goes.

I bought this particular book and the series as the new instalments came out and I have to say that they are one of the most riveting and intriguing storylines that I have ever had the pleasure and privilege of reading!!!
This particular book and series is absolutely phenomenal in telling the story about these amazing and unique characters that are trying to crave out a sanctuary for their people who have gifts that are covered by an enemy bent on destroying the peace that they are trying to create and the community they are building for the next generation and I find myself feeling like I'm part of their adventures by the brilliance of the writer who has created this world that loved in secrecy from the test of the world!!! I'm recommending this book and series to you for your own personal reading library and I'm telling you that you will find yourself reading about these amazing and unique characters that will steal your heart and make you love then and then you'll get to the end and be waiting for the next instalment with bated breath!!!
Rating- 4 really good Heat- 2 one scene Tropes- paranormal being falls for human, organization of paranormal being, fated mates
A book series that brings the Native American legend of skin walkers to life?
There are so many things to love about this first book in a promising series. A powerful alpha hero, an intelligent heroine, and interesting side characters who demand their own stories, but this book’s greatest strength is also its biggest weakness. In a field saturated with werewolves, vampires, and fae, Bliler gave us skin walkers. Her creatures are able to take the form of any animal. She even kept the Native American aspect to her lore. It’s a refreshing change. The downside is that it isn’t explored fully. We never SEE our skin walkers in action. We are TOLD what they can do, but we never get to see it because there is no action. There are no battles. There are no fights. This installment does set up a promising series plot, so I am hopeful that we will get to experience some excitement later.
I would recommend this series to anyone who enjoys paranormal romance or “shifter” stories. Why the story line can be some what predictable, not always, The characters are what make the books fantastic. I knew I was hooked the moment I started hating a certain head doctor and her ‘exams and experiments on love and pairings. Why? She was an interesting character that while seemingly professional but very off putting; taking the organic process to a different level when promoting pheromone based love and destined mates(my own phrasing here), but at the same time guarding herself. A double standard in practice? Hell yes and seriously off putting at times.
I’m getting off topic though...
This series works off the premise of destined mates or ‘Angels’ there is a mix of animistic alpha males and their counterparts which vary in attitudes, some badass, some balanced, and some more submissive than others. The pairings are promoted via induction to the community the series is set in and the medical exams that are required;
I could not put this book down. I so loved these two. This was such a great book (even though this is isnt the first time reading this series). Can't wait to read the next book in this series again. When King first meets Lilly he swears he knew her or met her before even though he knows for a fact this was the first time. The only reason why he was here was because he owed Monroe a favour, King is now "chief of security.” Lilly is very attracted to King, but she is fighting these feelings.. she is confused with a lot going around her, her job, the people who work here, and especially her feelings for King. But she wont stop investigating until she figures out what is really going on at Stonecrow. Both have their own battles to fight and figure out. In the King will get his Angel, his forever, his queen.
