Helen Peters is the author of The Secret Hen House Theatre. She grew up on an old-fashioned farm in Sussex, surrounded by family, animals and mud. She spent most of her childhood reading stories and putting on plays in a tumbledown shed that she and her friends turned into a theatre. After university, she realised that she needed to find a job where someone would pay her to read stories and put on plays (though maybe not in a tumbledown shed) and so she became an English and Drama teacher. Several years later, finding herself as a stay-at-home mother of two, she decided to have a go at writing the sort of book she’d so enjoyed as a child. Helen lives with her husband and children in London, and she can still hardly believe that she now gets to call herself a writer.

A Goat Called Willow is a book geared to ages 7-9. It is the 6th book in a great series of animal stories. This book is not only for young readers to read by themselves but can be a great book for adults to read to a child.

I received a free advanced copy of this book from the LibraryThing Early Reviewers giveaway in exchange for an honest review.

This is a very sweet, positive story about a girl named Jasmine and her friend Tom who rescue animals. In this book they buy a baby goat who they find being sold off at a fair. They have to keep the goat a secret from Jasmine’s parents because she’s not allowed to keep any more animals after we learn she’s already rescued a dog, cats and a lamb. Of course the overall narrative becomes about hiding the goat from her parents while trying to take care of it. At one point she convinces her mother she only wants to drink goat’s milk so her mom will buy it and Jasmine can feed the baby goat. This is a great chapter book for upper elementary kids or even ENL (English as a New Language) students. You also don’t have to have read the rest of the series to understand the story because this is book 6.

While at an event, a goat called Willow is for sale and if not sold at risk of not making it any further...

So enter Jasmine and her friend Tom who pledge their money and saves little Willow as Jasmine calls her. However hiding Willow from her parents on their farm proves hard as cheeky Willow escapes and wreaks havoc and even turns up at the kids school!

So when her parents find out what's happened things look bleak, can Willow be saved and have found her forever home?

This series is beautiful at showing how animals lives are precious and can easily be lost or saved these books I hope will inspire the children who pick them up to show animals care and compassion as they should be treated with. Fans of Animal Ark will love this series.

If an abandoned orphan goat at the local fair doesn't find a new home what will become of it? Of course the goat that Jasmine has already named Willow wins her heart as well as that of her friend Tom. What is the duo to do as Jasmine already has rescued several different animals now living on the family farm. Jasmine and Tom must keep this a secret and don't baby goats need goat's milk? Will Jasmine convince her mother that she's like to drink goat's milk now?

This is a great book for young animal lovers. The pace of the action is fantastic. The different problems and solutions are creative. The illustrations remind me of Little House on the Prairie. It was a very fun book to read.

Another wonderful story in the series. Jasmine gets into trouble again with this wily little goat. But there is a lesson learnt and a sweet ending.

Such an adorable book! Super cute series about a girl and her friend who rescues animals. Her mom is a vet and dad is a farmer. Ended up buying the entire series for my 8 yr old to read.
