Breastfeeding without Birthing is an essential guide to breastfeeding for mothers through adoption, surrogacy, and other special circumstances. All breastfeeding-without-birthing mothers who wish to provide their own milk for their baby will learn the tools and techniques for inducing lactation without pregnancy and birth.
My husband and I are early in the process of domestic adoption. This book was exactly what we were looking for to help us plan for feeding and caring for an adopted newborn. The information on inducing lactation is thorough and evidence-based, and the author is so encouraging reminding you to see the "breast as half-full" as breastfeeding has so many benefits for mom and baby regardless of milk supply!
As a nurse (and soon to be midwife) I will be quick to recommend this book to clients in my practice. I think all breastfeeding moms (gestational and non-gestational) can benefit from the information and encouragement this book provides!

Edit: I adopted my little one in June of 2016. With the help of this book, I produced a full supply of breast milk. I am still breastfeeding my sweet 20 month old son :) I recommend this book to anyone interested in adoptive breastfeeding.
Read to refresh some skills for a lovely family I’m working with (I’m a lactation consultant/IBCLC) - incredibly helpful and understandable resource for any parents who want to breastfeed without birthing.
A wonderful book for parents that need a guide to breast/chest feed their adopted or intended baby! Excellent graphics with details and step-by-step help. Highly recommend.
