Ιανουάριος 2012. Μια νεαρή φοιτήτρια στο Πανεπιστήμιο της Βενετίας βρίσκεται πνιγμένη. Πρόκειται για τον πρώτο από μια ακολουθία φόνων με αδιευκρίνιστο κίνητρο. Η διατριβή της κοπέλας είχε θέμα μία από τις σημαντικότερες αδελφότητες του 16ου αιώνα, η οποία αποτέλεσε τον στόχο σειράς εγκλημάτων που διαπράχθηκαν το 1575, την περίοδο του καρναβαλιού της Βενετίας, που οι ιστορικοί ονόμασαν «Φονικό καρναβάλι».
Πέντε αιώνες αργότερα, οι ίδιοι σκοταδιστές που πίστευαν πως κάνουν το σωστό σπέρνοντας τον τρόμο θα δρούσαν άραγε πάλι; Θα καταφέρει ο Μπενεντίκτ Ουγκ, καθηγητής Λατινικών στο Πανεπιστήμιο της Γενεύης, να αποκαλύψει την ασύλληπτη ραδιουργία που φαίνεται να εξυφαίνεται από την αφύσικη συμμαχία μιας ακροδεξιάς ομάδας της ρωμαϊκής Κουρίας και των μισθοφόρων του ISIS, με σκοπό τη δολοφονία του Πάπα, τον οποίο θεωρούν υπερβολικά προσηνή απέναντι στους μετανάστες;
Η Ιστορία επαναλαμβάνεται, ο αγώνας μεταξύ φανατισμού και λογικής δεν τελειώνει ποτέ, η παραφροσύνη των ανθρώπων δε γνωρίζει όρια…

About the author

Metin Arditi is a French-speaking Swiss writer of Turkish origin. He left Turkey at the age of seven. After spending eleven years in a Swiss boarding school in Lausanne, he studied at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, where he earned a degree in physics and a postgraduate degree in nuclear engineering. He continued his studies at Stanford Business School, where he got an MBA. He lives in Geneva, where he is very involved in the cultural and artistic life of the city. From 2000 to 2013 he was Chairman of the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande (O.S.R.). He is a member of the Strategic Council of the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, where over the years he taught physics (Assistant to Prof. Mercier), economics and management (as lecturer) and creative writing (as Visiting Professor). In 1988, he created the Arditi Foundation which awards fifteen annual prizes to graduates of the University of Geneva and the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology. The Arditi Foundation has purchased and offered to the University of Geneva a landmark theater, the Cinema Manhattan, now called Auditorium Fondation Arditi. He is the founder of " The Instruments of Peace Foundation ", which offers musical education to children of Palestine and Israel. He is a member of the Foundation Board of the Music Conservatory of Geneva. He chaired the Building Committee of the Martin Bodmer Museum in Cologny. In December 2012, Metin Arditi was appointed UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador. In June 2014, UNESCO appointed him Special Envoy. In September 2014, he created the Arditi Foundation for Intercultural Dialogue.

Αν κάθε φορά που διάβαζα ένα βιβλίο της κατηγορίας "γιατί δεν με χτυπούσε κεραυνός την ώρα που το αγόραζα " έπαιρνα ένα ευρώ, τώρα θα είχα θέρετρο ιδιωτικό σε ιδιωτικό τροπικό νησί που θα πήγαινα κάθε ΣΚ με το ιδιωτικό μου κρουαζιερόπλοιο.Το φονικό Καρναβάλι. ΜΗΝ ΤΟ ΑΓΟΡΑΣΕΤΕ.
Μπορείτε να ζήσετε και χωρίς αυτή την εμπειρία. Τα είπα και ξαλάφρωσα.

Επειδή Βενετία.

Από την περίληψη περίμενα αστυνομικό θρίλερ τύπου dark academia. Τελικά διάβασα ένα αστυνομικό που μου θύμισε πάαααρα πολύ Νταν Μπράουν, αν και πολύ πιο "μαζεμένο" και αληθοφανές. Σύντομα κεφάλαια από διαφορετικές οπτικές γωνίες-ήρωες, εύκολη, απλή και γρήγορη γραφή, σε κάνουν να περνάς από τη μια σελίδα στην άλλη δίχως να καταλάβεις πως πέρασε η ώρα.
3.5 στα 4, λοιπόν!

Με αφορμή μια σειρά εγκλημάτων στο παρελθόν, ο συγγραφέας χτίζει μια ιστορία με μυστικές οργανώσεις παλιές και σύγχρονες, στο κέντρο της οποίας βρίσκονται η μισαλλοδοξία και ο θρησκευτικός φανατισμός. Θα προτιμούσα όχι τόσο συχνή εναλλαγή οπτικών και προσώπων και το τέλος μου φάνηκε σε κάποια σημεία του απότομο.

J'ai eu un peu plus de mal avec ce livre, perdue un peu avec les personnages, mais bien aimé le côté historique

Ένα βιβλίο που δεν μου άρεσε καθόλου και αυτό όχι λόγω της πλοκής ή ευρύτερης γραφής του συγγραφέα μα των θεμάτων που πραγματεύεται. Το φονικό καρναβάλι μιλάει για την εκκλησιά, τον καθολικισμό μα και τους ισλαμιστές, για μια νέα τάξη πραγμάτων όπου η εκκλησία θα είχε την απόλυτη ισχύ και σαν γροθιά θα κρατούσε μακριά όλους τους αδύναμους ανθρώπους, τους ομοφυλόφιλους, τους μετανάστες καθώς και όποιον άλλον δεν ταίριαζε στην ατζέντα της. Το βιβλίο κάνει μεγάλο λόγο για την θρησκεία αναφέροντας πολλές φορές πως κάποιες φορές για να επιτευχθεί ο σκοπός σου πρέπει να σκοτώσεις αθώους ανθρώπους και να κάνεις κάθε λογής έγκλημα. Φυσικά και διαφωνώ κάθετα , οπότε είναι ένας μεγάλος λόγος για τον οποίον δεν μπόρεσα να ευχαριστηθω το βιβλίο. Οι φανατικοί άνθρωποι είναι σχεδόν πάντα δειλοί κατά βάθος με εγκληματικό πεδίο από πίσω... όπως και στο βιβλίο όσοι θα βοηθούσαν στο θάνατο του Πάπα ήταν ανώμαλοι, δολοφόνοι,κακοί άνθρωποι ως το μεδούλι,οι οποίοι ωστόσο υποστήριζαν πως επιλέχθηκαν από τον Θεό για να φέρουν εις πέρας το έργο του.
Έπειτα, έχουμε τα υπόλοιπα θέματα, όπως η βία σε κάθε επίπεδο και η χειραγώγηση.. βλέπουμε άντρες να κακοποιούν γυναίκες, όπως και έναν σημαντικό χαρακτήρα του βιβλίου που μας εξιστορεί πόσες φορές έκανε έρωτα με την μάνα του και αυτό σε ένα κλίμα " γλυκό " ενώ δεν θα έπρεπε. Δεν ξέρω με ποια λογική ο συγγραφέας σκέφτηκε να γράψει για έναν γιο και μια μάνα που κάνουν σεξ , όμως και πάλι ήταν σιχαμενο και δεν είχε κάποια βαρύτητα στη πλοκή κατά την γνώμη μου.
Αδιάφορο βιβλίο , αδύναμοι χαρακτήρες.

Dans son nouveau roman, l'auteur Metin Arditi offre aux lecteurs une intrigue historico-politico-religieuse des plus fascinantes.

Nous y suivons la découverte d'une lettre secrète du XVIe siècle mentionnant une très ancienne confrérie de fervents catholiques et des meurtres suspects qui semblent lui être liés.
Prenant pour décors Venise, Rome et la Suisse, l'intrigue est prenante, mystérieuse, les personnages intéressants. Les recherches menées par nos personnages principaux, professeur, journaliste et policier, mènent sur les sentiers de l'Histoire et des artistes de la Renaissance, un voyage captivant.

J'ai beaucoup aimé les sujets abordés par l'auteur: le terrorisme, l'endoctrinement, la religion.
Les fanatiques religieux présentés dans le roman sont de différentes obédiences, catholiques et musulmans extrémistes se rejoignent dans leur quête de destruction et de haine.
L'auteur plonge dans la psychologie de ces derniers, exposant leurs motifs, leur système de pensée, cela fait froid dans le dos mais est très intéressant.

Un roman énigmatique, à l'ambiance singulière, qui vous fera voyager et vous donnera envie de vous intéresser un peu plus à l'Histoire et ses mystères.

Ο λόγος που αποφάσισα να το επιλέξω από τα αμέτρητα που έχω για διάβασμα, είναι η σύγκριση με τον Dan Brown, που έγινε από κάποιον εδώ. Θα διαφωνήσω. Τον Dan Brown, εκτός ενός (αν θυμάμαι καλά) βιβλίου του, τον διαβάζω απνευστί. Με αγωνία από την αρχή μέχρι το τέλος. Και τον απολαμβάνω.

Εδώ, λίγο με κούρασε αλλά κυρίως με απογοήτευσε στο τέλος. Έδωσε ελάχιστο ''χώρο'' στην ''βάση'' της ιστορίας. Πίσω στο 1575 έγιναν κάποια εγκλήματα που πυροδοτήθηκαν από υποθέσεις επί υποθέσεων.
Εκεί, θεωρώ θα έπρεπε να δοθεί μεγαλύτερο βάρος. Υπήρχε το υλικό. Δεν το εκμεταλλεύτηκε ανάλογα ο συγγραφέας. Δεν το ανέλυσε. Δεν το ''έδεσε'' σωστά. Αντί αυτού, αναλώθηκε σε επιμέρους ιστορίες ανούσιες και χωρίς να έχουν να προσφέρουν το ελάχιστο στην βασική ιστορία. Και, στο σήμερα, γίνονται πάλι κάποια εγκλήματα που ουσιαστικά, τυχαία συνδέονται και που δεν έχουν και νόημα στην τελική όλα αυτά, παρά μόνο στο κεφάλι του συγγραφέα. Μοιάζει να έχει στο μυαλό του συγκεκριμένα ''γεγονότα'' που προσπαθεί να τα συνδέσει σε ένα μυθιστόρημα. Αυτήν την αίσθηση μου άφησε.

La quatrième de couv était très tentante, et le principe d'écriture plutôt réussi - l'idée d'un mystère à élucider sur deux temporalités est vraiment bien.
Par contre.
On pourrait faire sans le sexisme (seules les femmes ont droit à des descriptions physiques, et tkt que les cuisses sont galbées et les lèvres pulpeuses), sans un focus presque obsessionnel sur la couleur de peau de l'un des personnages, et sans un des axes du plot qui m'a vraiment dérangée (user de terroristes islamistes pour commettre un acte de terrorisme d'extrémistes catholiques ? Assume l'approche du terrorisme catho ! Je comprends l'angle "utiliser ses ennemis pour mener à bien son crime" mais c'est un non pour moi).
Sur ces trois points, je me suis demandé à trop de moments si c'était "pour le plot" pour que ce soit réellement justifié, et la lecture en était presque désagréable.

Un fourre-tout de beaucoup de sujets d’actualité brûlants. Les catholiques conservateurs , l’extrême droite , les djihadistes qui arrivent dans la mouvance migrante , eux détestent tout le monde mais n’hesitent Pas à s’allier avec les deux premiers, quand on peut faire du mal tous les moyens sont bons....
la partie historique et artistique est un peu occultée sous ce fatras

J’ai été déçue ! Et
Pourtant je suis fan de tout ce que Metin Arditi écrit.... j’ai adoré Le Turquetto notamment et voulais livré celui-ci car le thème mêlant art, histoire, religion m’attirait beaucoup. Mais voilà.... c’est un peut trop rapide à mon goût ! J’aurais aimé approfondir plus !

Thriller with uplifting finish. My favorite character Fernandez-Diaz is ready for the chapter in his life.

I liked the short mini chapters. Reads like a thriller TV show. I would not be surprised if it is made into a movie.

My second Arditi book. I am ready for more.

Metin Arditi s'essaye au genre policier avec une enquête chevauchant les âges. Mais n'est pas Umberto Eco qui veut, et la partie contemporaine de l'intrigue est quelque peu bâclée. Par contre ses personnages prennent vie, comme d'habitude.

Αποδείχθηκε κατώτερο των προσδοκιών. Η πλοκή που υποσχόταν ένταση κατέληξε βαρετή, οι χαρακτήρες δεν δημιουργούν καμία σύνδεση με τον αναγνώστη και συνολικά δεν υπήρχε κάτι που να με κρατήσει. Το μόνο θετικό ήταν η εξαιρετική μετάφραση, που απέδωσε σωστά ένα δύσκολο και βαρετό κείμενο.

L'histoire en elle-même est intéressante. C'est surtout la mise en forme que j'ai pas aimée. Les chapitres sont ultra courts (je dirais 3-4 pages en moyenne) et chaque chapitre a un POV différent. Du coup, jsp, je trouve qu'on a pas le temps d'être avec le personnage.

I am disappointed with this story- no way as good as "Le Turquetto."
2016: a group of fanatic Catholic traditionalists want to bring the world back into their fold, away from a lax, open-minded pope by planning a muslim attack on the vatican.
There are references to old secret documents, missing paintings and a previous (fictitious) massacre in Venice in 1575 which as far as I can see don't really relate to the current plot to kill the pope.
I found the links all rather far-fetched.
There are long extracts of latin text ( translated into French of course) but all I did was jump them to go straight to the French translation.
All in all the base story is good but strung together in a disappointing way.

J'ai adoré ce thriller. La construction du récit avec la succession des points de vue, les chapitres plus ou moins courts nous font avancer dans un brouillard tout à fait adapté. J'ai bien aimé le mélange de politique, d'histoire et l'insertion des textes originaux en latin et de quelques mots en italien parfois qui rendent le tout encore plus "réel".
