The Nomad Witch #3

Payback's a Witch

Rate this book
Why is everyone trying to kill Scarlett Prynne and her magical cat, Runeclaw?

He’d say it’s because she’s attracted to trouble.

She’d say it’s because trouble is attracted to her.

Either way, danger is on their tail.

A stop at a ghost town ends with the ghosts trying to kill Scarlett, and okay, worse, trying to damage her enchanted motorcycle, Dusk Runner.

Provo, Utah isn’t much better. Magicals aren’t exactly welcome in the town. Scarlett catches word that Redthorn Industries wants it that way.

Scarlett and Redthorn have a bad history. Round two isn’t going to be any better.

On her side, Scarlett has new allies in Provo’s magical community looking out for her kind. The magical kind. And her old allies, the Spell Riders and the Witches on Wheels, who are always looking to roll into trouble and mix it up.

She’ll need them all. Redthorn is up to something big, and Darrin Redthorn, the CEO, has a personal grudge against Scarlett. Blowing up their operation at the previous stop on her trek across America’s western states didn’t make him happy, to say the least, and now he wants to return the favor.

Scarlett Prynne is right in the middle of chaos again.

As if that wasn’t enough, college students are vanishing from the local University, and no one knows why. As Runeclaw would say, it’s the duty of a guardian to check it out.

Make that two guardians, one cat and one witch. Can they survive Redthorn and figure out what’s happening to the students? Only one way to find out.

For action, magic, snarky banter, martial arts, mystical creatures, and a dash of mystery, join Scarlett and Runeclaw on their next adventure!

I’m TR Cameron, science fiction author. I’ve been an avid consumer of the genre since I was six, I think, when I broke the seal on my Dad’s copies of the Asimov Foundation books. It’s been all downhill since then.

I have a day job that I love most days, and writing is pretty much my only consistent hobby. When I find time that’s not already filled with my wife, my daughter, my writing, my work, or dodging the affections of our clowder of cats, you can find me playing video games (currently Dishonored 2 – I’m a little behind the times on this one), watching things (Marvel movies, American Gods, Agents of Shield, Justified, The Expanse, Gotham), playing board games, or, naturally, reading.

My favorite authors in Sci-Fi are David Weber, Jean Johnson, John Scalzi, CJ Cherryh, and the giants: Asimov, Pohl, Bear, Heinlein, etc. I read a lot in other genres too, and am a big fan of Matthew Woodring Stover, Michael Anderle, Jim Butcher, and I could go on and on and on. If I had to choose one favorite, though, it would be Stephen R. Donaldson, whose Thomas Covenant series was transformative for me.

Probably my pie-in-the-sky dream for my writing career is that someone would make a movie or television show of my books and I could be a part of the production. Sure, unlikely, but a clowder-dodger can dream, right? My more practical dream is that I can keep writing and both entertaining and connecting with my readers for years and years to come.

If there's any sign of trouble around, you can guarantee that Scarlett and Runeclaw won't be far behind!

After stopping the night at a ghost town, and getting quite an unwelcome surprise, Scarlett and Runeclaw make their way to Provo, Utah, where Redthorn has its main office.

Because, rather like a cockroach, Darrin Redthorn seems to be a true survivor, no matter how often the Witches on Wheels, and The Spell Riders, stamp on his ambitions!

But the Town of Provo appears to be, if not anti-magic, then just about tolerating the magicals who live there and, on Scarlett, Runeclaw, and Lin, the Drow, looking around, to see if Redthorn was excavating in or around the Town that holds their main base, they discover something else just as sinister.

Scarlett, being a total Guardian at heart, is determined to dig deeper but, despite being careful, she finds the full might of Redthorn standing against her, once more.

And when they meet in confrontation, Scarlett discovers something even more dreadful!

Once again, I was held rapt, as I read this book. This series is definitely one where you need to read it in order of it being published, as it's so full of the many plot twists that TR Cameron seems to delight in, that they might get lost if you don't!

Once again, it's Silly O'clock in the morning, as I couldn't put this book down until I'd read the final page, so I'll go on to Book Four: 'Witches Get Stitches', to start reading it, after I've had at least a few hours sleep.

Once I've read it, I'll catch you on the flip side, to let you know what I think of Scarlett's next adventures, as I'm hoping this next book will be even better than the last! Lol

This really isn't a standalone book. I highly recommend starting with Book One in the series. If you're looking for romance, this (so far) is not the series for you. Plenty of action, plenty of snark - without being repetitive or overall obnoxious, and plenty of creativity! Each book continues to build on the travels of Runeclaw and Scarlett as they work their way through the Utah territory and continue to chase the "bad guys", as Guardians do. Luckily, they meet like-minded people along the way and use their resources with the Witches on Wheels and the Spell Riders to help them. I really like the fact that she doesn't try to be the Lone Ranger in all situations as if she is the Only One. Also, there is so much proven with strength in numbers. A new enemy is brought to light that is very strong in magic. Also, a new mystery with missing college students is unearthed. I'm ready for Book4!

It's totally the fault of the author(s) - Part II

It's totally the fault of the authors, if Book 4 had been released when I finished this, instead of not due for another 9 days or so then I'd be devouring that instead of typing this review, which by the way is, "DON'T read this book", unless ; a. you've read books 1 & 2, or b. you've nothing else planned to do before you finish it. If your anything like my nerdish self you won't want to put it down.

Redthorn

On to Provo and the main headquarters. Meanwhile women are disappearing from a nearby university. Is Readthorn involved? Readthorn has a well defended hole in the ground covered by illusion. What are they hiding?

Lots of action and a little more dialog than the previous books. Still fast paced.

Eagerly awaiting the next book!

Exciting, moving, and bravely fought the all of Scarlets allies tried to remove the threat Redforn makes

This time against Redforn Scarlett had to join forces with all her allies. The threat was much bigger than she had thought. Many brave people stepped up to fight. And this time it started with missing students from local colleges and Redforns hiding whys.

Bigger enemy

Scarlett and her friends have learned that their enemy Redthorn has another site and it's even bigger than the first one. They also find out there are missing coeds from the college and think that Redthorn is somehow involved. Another action packed book in the series with lots of snarky humor. I am looking forward to the next book.

Very exciting.

This third book in the highly entertaining The Nomad Witch series was another fun and enjoyable read.

The skill of the authors, TR Cameron, Martha Carr and Michael Anderle, shines through, with the humour that always accompanied (Carr and Anderle's) work.

Now, for book four...

Very Good Segment

Mystery, great characters and good action scenes. Add in an evil corporation, missing school girls and aliens and you have a good reading adventure. Looking forward to book 4.

Runeclaw 3

Riding into the ghost town on a motorcycle and pitching a tent seem a humble beginning to this tale.
Nothing magical or scary here...or is there?
Fast paced adventure with Scarlett relying on her friends more than ever.
Death is not for the youngest crowd .

Once AGAIN !

Just because a Tale is closing, doesn't always mean that the excitement wanes. This kept my pulse racing till the last sentence. Thanks for this wonderful exciting ride.!!

Better and Better

Not sure what comes next, but each book just gets better and better and ties everything up nicely in a bow. Read from book 1.

Good Job!

T.R.; the books are getting better! Keep fine tuning them and you will hit your stride! The extra dialogue was noticeable as well as some of the descriptors.

Witches on motorcycles, with gangs! Fast and a bit silly without YA romance, a distinct plus. A nice read once sort of thing.
