Bonding four guys, each a shard of my fated mate’s fractured soul?

Yes, please!

I never pictured my thirties would be so dreary. A hermit, workaholic fresh out of a messy divorce.

But when a long-haired stranger with storms for eyes reveals a hidden world beneath my nose, my life is forever changed.

Sunder, the first shard, treats me like I’m a punishment from the Gods. An inferior human unworthy of a Prince of the Fae. And yet…

When he touches me, the power flowing between us leaves us both breathless. There’s something changing behind that broody glare. My skin burns white hot when he wraps his arms around me, and it’s more than the magic we share.

Now he wants me to give up everything and travel to some magical world. To find and bond my other mates. But the second may be even closer than I realize...

The first in a duet, this slow-burn why choose romance, explores themes suitable for mature audiences. This book adds two men to the harem with two more in the next book. Featuring a possessive tortured hero, strong FMC, and a cinnamon roll shifter. The streams don’t cross yet, but everything else is on the table.

I really enjoyed this book! From the prologue I was hooked and couldn't get enough. You really feel for Mira in the first few chapters and as she figures out her relationship with Sunder. I really didn't like Sunder at first and felt that the scene at Mira's job was unnecessary for both (she's been through enough and he needs to get over himself). But I can admit that their chemistry was amazing!

I felt that maybe there was too much time spent in the "real world" which meant that everything that happened in Iluemera felt a bit rushed. It may have been better to make the book a tiny bit longer to avoid this but I still really enjoyed the book as a whole. I hope that in the next one it's a bit longer so that the scenes don't feel rushed or it's turned into a trilogy instead. I also really hope we get to see Tim and Hannah get their comeuppance (I have a feeling the choice of Mira's powers may have something to do with what may happen to them) but I can also see from how the author has written Mira leaving the "real world" that this may not be the case and it's just my need for justice/revenge!

I honestly really enjoyed this book and cannot wait for the next one to see how Mira and her men get on and how this soul retrieval journey pans out!.

Interesting Story

I like the story concept. But I’m not so sure about the actual characters. I’m not really liking any of them yet. I’m hoping that changes.

Interesting Fae Adventure

I have to say that I was intrigued by this fae RH from reading the sample. It made me click on the whole book to see what would happen with Mira and the shattered soul of her mate.

Mira has had a rough time with romance and comes across as a passive personality, until it comes to protecting those she cares about. The author did a great job in making Sunder come off as a massive jerk. It was hard at times to see how Mira would even speak to him again, let alone think about him as a possible mate. But his story pulls at your heart and you can't help keep in mind that he was betrayed and his soul shattered. Bobble is just the sweetest shifter and I look forward to what he'll bring in the next book.

This book was filled with a lot of emotions, cool magic, and nasty ex's that need to get over themselves. This was the start to an intriguing adventure into bringing a shattered soul back together.

Reckless Bonds is the first book that I've read by this writer and I can honestly say I really enjoyed reading it. I'll have to keep my eyes out for more books by the writer in the future.

The prologue was a great addition and gave us a much needed background to the whole story. With Prince Dan'thiel soul was split into 4 shards or separate men needing his/their mate is a human - Mira who at the start of this book is a bit of a wallflower but as the book progressed she came out of her shell more. When her path crosses with Sunder who needs her help but he's not exactly grateful about it. It's definitely a cause of friction between both of them and their banter is what I liked most in this book as well as Bobbie the cat. I loved this book and I'm looking forward to the next book now.

This is a very impressive and enjoyable debut.
This story is about Mira, how her life is lacklustre until she meets Sunder and it takes an unexpected turn.
This is a great, sexy, romantic and action-filled story.
The best thing is that, at heart, this book lays a good foundation. You know who the characters are, their background, and how that shapes their forthcoming story.
It keeps you engrossed and wanting to read more.
I highly recommend this book. 5 stars!

DNF @ 72% Along with the massive amount of editing this needs. It lacks cohesiveness. Sunder was insanely annoying and a horrible start to her harem. Mira herself was quite annoying as well. Idk this one wasn’t for me. As a fat woman, finding good plus size representation in books is tough. This was one of those that wasn’t good. The descriptions for her body change almost every chapter. The spicy scenes??…. Cringe worthy to say the very least. Definitely won’t be finishing this one.

Huh

Well, this book started out in a really Hopeless situation for her. The fmc is to kind hearted. She sucks up Sunders arsehole ways the entire book. We got a good look at his personality for just over 3 quarters of the book. I still can’t believe she just accepted his apology and basically moved on. It was written to make the reader Hate him, hate what he had to do, to
“motivate” her and when they finally get to his realm, she just rolls over for him. Then he loses it on her. Her reaction to that was the only spot in the book that felt Real, relatable. We have all been there in that moment, back straight, silent, but steaming pissed. Only speaking when needing too, trying to hold back curses that would make a nuns head spin. Sunder realizes his blunder almost immediately after stalking off after his harsh words. He also pretended to be drunk and show up at her work so they could potentially fire her so they could be on their way. He was rude, brusque, callous and harsh in every way possible. She just took it. Internalized it, said “never again”, comparing him to her ex Tim who cheated on her and was getting married to her ex bestie. But, she would get over it. She had plenty of times to call his bluff by leaving, but she didn’t. So this is why I rated it 4 stars. Her relationship just didn’t feel believable. I understand that there’s one guy and basically his soul split into 4 pieces, they all are the different sides to him as one person. So he’s the rude brusque one, selfish. Accepting his feelings for her and apologizing from the heart changed something in him though. It would have felt more believable if there was more time before she felt like she was “in love” with him.
Her cat, Bobble, I had a feeling he was one of her shards. She needed him more than anything. He’s her comfort and friend. Once we got to read his point of view, it gave the book that sweetness it needed to counter balance all the crap Sunder put her through and didn’t grovel for. I enjoyed the book, and plot. It has promise. I can’t wait to read about her next shards, and what they will bring to the table.

Love ♥️ or lust 🔥-🔥
Tropes-fated mates
There were few errors

One thing that kind of annoys me is that Me Ra is described as "plain" and "curvy". The girl on the cover looks nothing like her.

Mira, the FMC is in her 30s. She is a bit antisocial, insecure, adrift in life, and is desperate to find a purpose and place to belong but is afraid of taking risks. She uses humor to cope and lives with her cat Bobble. She recently got out of a toxic relationship and is slow to trust.

Sunder, an MMC, is one shard or piece of a formerly powerful fae prince, Dan'thiel. Dan'thiel was betrayed and cursed to never be whole again. Sunder is desperately seeking his mate in order to be whole again. He has a superiority complex, is arrogant, lacks understanding of humans, and loves breakfast food. Overall, he's an emotionally stunted prick. Thankfully, he begins to change later on the book.

The world Sunder comes from is called Illuemera. The fae there use magic called Chroma. There are different colors of Chroma which represent different powers. Most fae have one or two colors of Chroma they can wield. Sunder lost his Chroma when his soul fractured and only Mira can help him get it back.

Sunder finds Mira and expects her to mate with him so he can become whole again and to overthrow his brother. Both are stubborn and butt heads. She is scared of change and he is determined to get his powers back, regardless of what she wants. Mira eventually agrees and Sunder begins training her to use Chroma. Their relationship grows throughout the book, with a bit of peril and angst thrown in, and we eventually meet another shard.

The book doesn't end on a cliffhanger. I enjoyed seeing Sunder and Mira grow throughout the book. Their characters quickly learn and adapt, unlike some fictional characters who remain frustratingly stagnant. And I'm excited to meet the other shards.

Very intense!

Those last few chapters…yikes😬🫠wasn’t too happy with that psycho, Yurghen and what he did to them.😤but at the same time, I’m glad he got the full effects of Mira’s revenge.👌🏼Onto the second book!📕

“Once I was something more aligned to that. Not anymore. I used to be Prince Dan’thiel of the Elven Kingdom of Valenfall, but that was a long time ago.”

“… Sorry. What?” He’s not making sense. The words he’s saying aren’t real. Elves? Kingdom? This guy has absolutely fallen off the wagon. He’s off his rocker. He’s so far off his rocker that he probably doesn’t even know what a rocker is. Panic claws at my throat. I have to get out of here.

Sunder sighs. “I was born long ago in Illuemera. This place is unknown to you and the other humans. We go to great lengths to keep it hidden from knowledge here.”

I blink at him, my eyes darting to his rounded ears skeptically. “Illumi-where-a?”

I just wish that someone was kind and gentle. Someone I could love and be loved by. Not some faerie asshole who thinks humans are worthless scum, and I’m just some object to use.

This story centers around an ordinary human woman who learns that she is not exactly ordinary. She is the "vessel" that will bring together 4 parts of a shattered soul from another realm. She actually takes the news rather well, I thought.

Most of the book involves only 1 of the 4 beings that needs to merge. By the end of the book, however, we learn about the 2nd part (which is actually called the "third", go figure). That means that there are still 2 beings that will join our little magic-fest in the 2nd part of the series duet.

The story takes center stage here, with otherworld magic, called "chroma". This author has managed to present a totally alien world in an understandable way. The unique characters with their traits, mannerisms, appearance, and motivations are clearly presented.

There is some graphic sex in the book, however it doesn't rule the roost. Book 1 has only MF sex. There is a cliffhanger to be resolved in book 2,.

Karah Mina - Her Shattered Mates 1 - Reckless Bonds @karahmina #karahmina #hershatteredmates #recklessbonds

A Paranormal Fantasy Romantasy Reverse Harem Novel with a strong FMC. What else can you ask for.

Mira the normal human FMC in her 30's just got out of a toxic relationship and lives with her cat Bobble. She finds out she is not so ordinary but she has to bring back together a shattered soul.

Sunder the arrogabt MMC is a little part of the fae Prince Dan'thiel. He has a god complex and seeks his mate so he can be whole again.

Both characters grow throughout the book and you gonna love them.

The prologue got me gasping for air. It made me wanna read the rest and find out what was gonna happen next.

At the end of the book we meet another part that has to merge. So love to read the next book.

Some graphic MF x scenes but necessary for the story.

Thanks @booksprout

I wish I could give this book 10 stars!! ⭐️ This might be my favorite read of 2024!! Watch out, SJM a new authors in town and she knows what she’s doing 😍 READ THIS IMMEDIATELY!!! Romantasy, adventure, & reverse harem. Sign me up twice. It’s witty, action packed, and adventurous. The magic system is unlike anything I’ve ever read. The banter and the romance are FIRE!! The characters and the world are so well built and the character growth is sublime. The references to popular songs and movies had me screaming with joy. God, I absolutely loved every second of this book. The book itself is gorgeous. Karah Mina just made it to my list of authors I automatically read and honestly, I want to be her best friend. 🫶🏼 I can just tell we would get along great from references she made and who knows, maybe I’ll bump into her at the Imagine Dragons concert tomorrow. It is my second one this month 😅 I wish I could stay and continue singing praises but it’s time to start reading Twisted Bonds. Thank you Karah Mina for sharing your talent with the world!!

Karah Mina creates a beautiful magical world that is unlike anything I have read. If you like A Court Of Thorn and Roses, you will find yourself liking this romantic fantasy.

The prologue of this book was a lot to understand and take right of the bat. As a reader I didn’t have a lot of background history to know what was going on in the prologue, so I didn’t understand what was happening. As the story progresses the prologue starts to make more sense.

This book is about a Fae Prince Dan’thiel that was betrayed by his former lover Malicryn and his soul was split into 4 shards. In order to put his soul back together he must find his mate and complete the “mating bond” which is achieved through intercourse. His first shard Sunder goes into the human realm to see if his mate is on Earth. Could Prince Dan’thiel’s (Sunder) mate be a human? As the author unwraps a magical world, as a reader I was not able to put this book down.

I enjoyed this book so much that I don’t know where to start?
Stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️🤞🏻
Tropes: fae, quest, elemental powers, fated mates, magic, why chose, hate to love

I binge read it in one evening and already loaded the next one as it gets better and better.

Our FMC Mira is a typical woman who works as a software engineer and got recently divorced. She has one orange cat and a best friend. But everything changes in her life when she meets her fated mate on the street.

And if we would think instant connection and love? OMFG no!
It was true hate to love from his side. And I hated him for 70% of the book so much cause he was annoying a lot! It took him very long to understand how lucky he f is.

Mira? Is so adorable in the quest to see be the owner of her life. I loved how genuine she is.

Already opened the second book and can’t wait to see where Miras quest will lead her💜

Just WOW!

Such a unique story! I’m impressed with the depth of the detail that has been put into writing this series. It’s also a huge plus the FMC is a full grown adult with a career and life baggage. I love Mira’s relationship with her bestie Lisa. Although, some portions of the book seem drawn out for no really reason others are kind of rushed. Like the First finding Mira, then discovering the Third was with her all along. Getting into the portal to begin their “quest” was a bit confusing, maybe that’s not the word I’m looking for… but it seemed forced. It’s a great story line, and I’ve never read anything by this author before. I’m hoping the second book will keep me as interested as the first. And maybe I’ll find more of her books as entertaining. Off to download book 2. Happy reading friends!

I was a little confused in the beginning but it quickly sorted itself out. A Fae Prince is in search of his True Mate … and what a search it is.

Sunder finally finds his Mate in the human realm and he is not happy. He is so unhappy with the gods choices I wanted to throw a book at him.

Mira … the human fated to be the Mate of Sunder starts as a weak female. Man I hate weak FMCS but she starts coming around and becomes a force to be reckoned with.

And her cat. … love that 🐈 😂

Can’t wait to read the next one … more trials to come I’m sure.

I did not like this book until after sunder and her bonded. It focused a long time on him being a douce, and he wasn't likeable at all. Mira deserved better, especially after what she went though with tim. I love Ben. The book started picking up after sunder stopped being a horrible person. Mira has a bratty strong personality. And shes very loving and kind. Same as Ben. I can't wait to see what the other shards are like. Sunder seemed like the worst parts of the Prince's soul, and bobble the best. Shard 2 sounds like a handful from what the author hinted at. I can't wait to see how this plays out

I honestly think this has the potential to be a decent two book read. It has an interesting plot and good beginning world building but unfortunately it is read by AI under audible. I have come to realize that AI has to many issues with grammar, intonation, missing words, and character distinction to make listening anything short of torture. I have listened to thousands of Audiobooks in my 40 Yrs of enjoying Audiobooks and this has earned the distinction of being the first and worst AI read audiobook. If you still want to try it I suggest listening to the whole sample reading before you buy. I think the book version would probably be a solid 3.5-4 star read otherwise.

Another new to me author, a fun and intriguing story.
Our girl went from quiet and unassuming to out in the spotlight.

For me it took a bit to take off but once it did it rolled smoothly.

It got busy with her and "the shards" and how each came to be .I liked finding out their stories and how it all comes together.

Detail of the story, the full of life character personalities and the heated scenes. Writing well done.

Sunder has been on a mission to look for his fated mate in order to help him reunited the shards of his soul. Mira has been through a divorce and is now just living but when Sunder shows up, he's show's her a whole new life she would never had imagined. It took a moment for me to connect with Mira's character, she didn't seem to be acting like someone in her thirties. Once she became more relatable, the story flowed better and things got more interesting.

I really enjoyed reading this book. Mira is a plus sized heroine who lives in the real world and finds out that she’s the fated mate of an elfin prince.
Along this journey we learn that Prince Danthiel’s soul was shattered into 4 pieces and she must bond with all 4 in order to restore him to his previous self. Along the way they learn to trust one another and how to tap into their “chroma” ie magic.
In book one she connects with two other the 4 shards. And we learn about the other two.
I can’t wait to read what happens next in this story.

Well this was a ride and a half
I love Mira's growth through out the book
Her first mate though pissed me off 70 percent of the book 🤦🏻‍♀️
I'm glad he came to his senses because I was about to DNF if he kept being an alphahole and not the good kind.
The third is my favorite he knew her worth from the beginning 🥹
The 4th one stuck in between worlds his intentions are questionable to say the least 😅
I wonder how him and #2 are going to play out in the second book. I refuse to remember their names except for Mira's 🤣

2.5 stars.

It's hard enough to find reverse harems with plus size FMC, but then to have the first *fated mate* disappointed that she's plus size, and comment on it multiple times? Fail. If you're going to introduce the mates one at a time, maybe don't start with one who's such an asshole? Sunder's one of the worst mates I've ever read, with no redeeming qualities. And poor Bobble was such an afterthought. What's the point of introducing two mates per book if one of those mates is only going to get a tiny percentage of the focus?

"Spicy" scenes were also incredibly cringe.

Mira is human and has just went through a messy divorce so she is not in the best mood. She thinks this is all there will be until Sunder introduces her to a brand new world. Sunder is kind of a jerk at first and Mira was just going with the flow. Mira wised up and turned into a FMC who didn't take crsp like she used to. And Sunder finally started treating his mate better.

Sucked In

This book starts off spicy and feisty! I absolutely love the complex nature of the situation they find themselves in and how the powers grow and develop as they find and bind the shards. Looking forward to seeing how Lisa’s role plays out in book 2 as well as how difficult the Second is going to be. Came across a few errors in the book along the way but they did not detract from the overall storyline and feel of the book. Enjoy!

DNF @ 72%. Honestly this is such a frustrating read for me. The first MMC we meet is just a straight up douche-canoe. Like, he looks at his fated mate and is disappointed, then spends the majority of their time together telling her how inferior she is. It’s not even bullying - he just truly believes that she’s less than him. And our FMC is a bit of a doormat, so after all the MMC’s bad behavior, all’s well. I dunno, I just couldn’t finish it. Giving it two stars because it had potential.

I really wanted to give it a chance and not DNF this book, but I just didn’t love it and won’t be reading the second one.
To be honest I already know what’s going to happen, not the biggest plot twist or mystery.
The writing style just wasn’t for me.
The world building and the magic style was good, but I cringed through the smut.
It was so awkward reading about ribbons coating her inside.
I’m good thanks! Not for me.

DNF - the book was missing a romantic spark. There was no chemistry. We know that the main male lead is super hot and female is a fat human with crooked nose and thin lips lol. She is also insecure about her size and the male seems to notice only that about her so what I read of the story does not come off romantic but a more of a duty to the bond.
