Our God Reigns: An Amillennial Commentary on Revelation

Rate this book
Study the book of Revelation anew with this intelligible and insightful amillenial commentary from Sam Storms, author of Kingdom Come.

Revelation was written in such a way that it should be not only intelligible to any Christian who reads or hears its words, but also a blessing to the person who obeys and believes what it says. Simply put, contrary to popular opinion, and notwithstanding the often bizarre and mysterious images it conveys, God intends for Revelation to be understandable, edifying, and enjoyable!

Scholarly but conversational in style, Storms has written for those who do not have a working knowledge of Greek but does not shy away from the numerous important technical and exegetical details that appear all through Revelation. He provides insight into both the nuances of the Greek text and the deep doctrinal issues in Revelation in such a way that the average Christian adult can grasp.

Revelation is profoundly relevant to the issues we face in our society today and Storms keeps the welfare of the church in view, as he includes numerous applications for daily living and growth in your personal relationship with God. An excellent read for those looking to better grasp the blessings to be found in understanding this book.

I reckon he's bang on. In terms of commentaries coming from my view of Revelation (modified idealism), this feels like the most accessible treatment of Revelation I've read, perhaps with the exception of Wilcock. Basically, if you like Beale, and want to recommend material to someone interested, this would be a good option.

Anecdotally, I'm encouraged to find more and more people embracing this view of John's apocalypse. Obviously I think it's right, but less importantly, it makes Revelation way more applicable and practical.

I am so appreciative of this book. Sam Storms does a wonderful job with this commentary on Revelation that is from the perspective of Amillenialism. Being that Amillenialism is not popular among modern evangelicals, Storm's hope is that this book will "contribute to a change in how many understand the book and the truths concerning the return of Christ and the consummation of his kingdom purposes." This book's focus is showing that Revelation is a book written for the edification of the Believer. This book of the Bible has truly been mishandled, especially in recent years with many turning it into a book to tantalize the intellect along with sensationalism that distracts from the true message of the Revelation. Sam Storms did a splendid job of showing that this book is ultimately about Christ and our hope that we have in Him. This commentary is written in an easy to understand way, but he in no way "dumbs it down". Though it was written for those of us without a knowledge of Greek, he takes great care with the technical and exegetical details of this book of the Bible. I found it very understandable as a layperson and it is no boring commentary! I found his writting style to be full of humor throughout and yet serious.

If you have been wanting to study Revelation, I highly recommend reading this along with your Bible.
Sam Storms believes that the spirtual gifts are for today. I disagreed with him on his more charismatic beliefs as I am a cessationist, but I appreciate his contribution to the Amillenialism view and Biblical insight into Revelation. This book is a wonderful contribution to our understanding of Revelation and I hope right along with Storms that this book would contribute to more people coming to understand the truths of Revelation.

Thank you @christianfocuspublications for a copy of this book for my honest thoughts!

An excellent and understandable commentary on this difficult book of the Bible. But it is more than that! Storms exhorts and encourages the reader to faith in Christ.
