I like this author and I appreciated his messages in this book. But this format is not conducive to an audio version that you only have 3 weeks to read because you borrowed it from the library. It is better to own this and read one a day (as the author implies in the title) so you can give his messages some thought. So 4 stars.

While I am still reading it, I definitely think this devotional of Bob’s is slowly becoming a favorite. It’s such an easy way to pull scripture and relate it to our daily lives. Bob Goff has a certain way about his writing and I think the reason it’s so easy to enjoy is because it’s focused on truly what we are called to do - Love God and Love our Neighbors.

I’ve only just begun Catching Whimsy, but already, it feels like a daily adventure I can’t wait to continue. Bob Goff’s words have a way of reigniting that sense of wonder and playfulness that we often lose in the hustle of life. Each segment feels like a journey—one that invites not just joy but also transformation. I can already sense this book changing me, helping me see the world through a lens of possibility and childlike curiosity.

I’m excited to see where this story takes me, but perhaps what I’m most looking forward to are the unexpected friendships and connections that might blossom because of this journey. I’ve always been a big fan of Bob Goff, and I’m pretty sure if we ever met, we’d have the best conversation. I was thrilled when NetGalley approved me for this book in exchange for my honest review. Although I haven’t finished it yet, I know I’ll keep coming back to these daily devotions during my quiet time with the Lord. The days that I have flipped to and read already were wonderful. Goff’s insight and real-life stories are both inspiring and a perfect complement to my daily Bible readings. This book is already enriching my spiritual journey.

I was SO excited for this devotional, my first one by Bob Goff!! I have read all his books, I am a big fan.... I dont know what this was.
The things I love about Bob are lacking in this book. I was excited to share this with my less religious friends , and one by one it was too preachy, and it turned them all off to Bob.

I have read his other book Live in Grace, Walk in Love every morning so it’s so great to have a new one to start. I love this one because it’s such a good daily anchor and has tangible ways to incorporate the daily lessons into your everyday life.

Bob Goff is a magician when it comes to changing the way we view the world and the people in it. The title of this book is the perfect example of his skills. When we think of growing deeper in our faith, our mind might conjure up images of stern-faced theologians, laboring over complex texts, and approach it with anxiously with feeling of shame of falling short of where we need to be. In Catching Whimsy, Bob does the exact opposite. Every day of this 365-day challenge takes us on an adventure of what we can become and how we can adjust our vision to see others and ourselves the way God sees us - as incredible creations made in His image. The introduction to the book sets the tone, "we can't catch what we don't chase". If we are going to change our lives, we have to be intentional about it and Catching Whimsy gives us the roadmap to do that. Change can be daunting, but this book gives us the tools to achieve true change. Each day Bob engages the reader by painting a picture that is universally relatable and ending with a practical question or challenging thought that can be easily applied. The daily, dated readings begin with a memorable title and thought, acting as banks to a river that guide the reader gently without imposing rigid opinions, allowing us to navigate the waters of self-refinement and reflection. Examples of daily titles are "Pursue Your Purpose and Stop Worrying about Everyone Else", "Stop Putting in the Microwave What needs to Go into the Crockpot" and "Wanna Meet Jesus? Feed the Hungry". Going into a new year, Catching Whimsey is exactly what we need to set aside a short, but meaningful time each day to become more intentional with others, more forgiving toward ourselves and more connected to a God who as Bob says is "over the moon" about us.

If you're like me, you're tired. Physically, mentally, emotionally, and most of all spiritually. Like bone-weary is a better word. When it goes beyond needing a break, needing a good night's sleep, or an escape. Run down. You get it. And I'm there with you. Where's the easy yoke Jesus supposedly promised? Where's the fun? Where is Life? I've had these questions rattling around in my mind. Then they rattled down to my heart and demanded to be answered.

And, as if on cue, I started reading Bob's book. I've read his books in the past and they've always been timely and Catching Whimsy is no different. What I love about it is that it's broken down into daily readings. Not chapter-long readings that load a lot of "to-dos" on you. But the sort of thing that comes alongside you, puts an arm around you, and helps you.

I started to find my heart in the things I "used" to love. As I pursued things that I'd written off as "play" and, therefore, a waste of time, I began to feel some life come back into these weary bones. It was whimsy that I was missing. Life is meant to be fun! And, I don't know about you, but "fun" isn't how I would describe my religious experience.

This book isn't religious just like Jesus wasn't. Jesus was ALL about love and this book helps to refocus our attention on that aspect. It's an invitation to go down a slide into a lake in summer. To go sledding at Christmas. To go for a hike and smell nature. It's a breath of fresh air and an invitation to find Life right where you are.

As with any fun adventure, it's best shared with family and friends so gather around in community and HAVE FUN.

Let me start by saying this: I will read anything Bob Goff writes. His books always leave me wanting to love people better and live with a little more joy—and Catching Whimsy is no exception. Bob’s fun, quirky personality shines through every page, and honestly, every time I read his work, I find myself wishing he lived next door.

What could be better than getting a little Bob Goff inspiration every single day? This devotional delivers exactly that—quick, meaningful reminders that encourage you to live lightly, love boldly, and pay attention to the small wonders around you.

Reading a Bob Goff book is always an adventure for me. I ride a roller coaster of emotions as I follow his stories, from laughter to tears, and everyday happenings to deep self-contemplation. I never, not once, complete one of his books without having grown in some area of my life. Catching Whimsy is no exception to this pattern. Everyone needs a daily touch of Bob Goff’s unique way of pointing out Truth. I reviewed the book early so I read it cover to cover. I highly recommend not doing that with this book. It is like being handed your favorite cake, or for the healthier folks, a basket of your favorite fruit. You will not eat the entire cake, or all the fruit in one sitting, but will savor it for as long as it lasts. That is how Catching Whimsy should be read, one devotional per day for the year. Each page is rich in offering us a chance to grow in love with each other, with ourselves, and most importantly with God. Purchase two copies when you order, I can assure you that you will want to share this special book with those you love, and maybe even with someone you are just trying to love. And when you give it to them, tie some balloons around it just to add a touch of whimsy to your gift.

I like Bob Goff -- he is practical, honest, caring, and funny. I listened to CATCHING WHIMSY. I think it was a wonderful idea to have the author read the audiobook -- his voice is just perfect.

This is a devotional -- 365 entries, one for each day of the year. Each entry starts with a Bible verse and then shares ideas, advice, and insights from Bob Goff.

I was listening to the audiobook version -- where each day is an average of 2 minutes and 10 seconds. Although I enjoyed listening to the entries -- I think I would have got more out of them if I had been using the book along with it. I'm a visual person and I like to take notes in the margins.

With the audio I tended to listen to four or five days at a time -- which seemed to jumble the concepts and did not give me enough time to contemplate what I was hearing. I think I would have benefitted more with a paper copy of this title. So I guess I will need to find a paper copy.

A book by Bob Goff is good news as it is but a devotional!! (or I should probably say _another_ devotional!) The only thing that makes me sad about reading his books is when they end so I’m THRILLED to have a Bob Goff book that will last me ALL YEAR! 🥳

Catching Whimsy is the perfect way to start or end a day. Each devotional reading I have read while being a part of the launch team has been the best combination of encouraging, uplifting, and also challenging.

Bob Goff has the God-given skill of challenging the parts of me that I know I can do better in but in the most kind and exciting way. Instead of feeling hopeless or discouraged about ways I can improve, I feel like I’m on a sports team and Bob Goff is the best coach reminding me of how FUN it can be to try, to fail, to score, to play, and to catch whimsy long the way.

I enjoy reading Bob Goff's books. When I saw Catching Whimsy on Net Galley, I immediately requested to read it.

Each day's devotional starts with a Bible verse, followed by a story from Goff's personal experiences that relates to that verse. Some days, there are questions for you to ponder. One thing each day has in common is that Goff gives you much to ponder.

"Sometimes you need to cut loose what isn't working and start over."

One of the things I love about this devotional is that Goff's personality shines through. He is down-to-earth and relatable. He is also a bit eccentric, which adds bits of humor throughout the devotionals. I think he would be a neat person to meet. I appreciate him sharing his wisdom and stories with us while pointing us toward God every step of the way.

I received this book for Christmas in 2024. Over the course of 2025 MT and I traded off on writing a daily commentary on the lessons. MT did the even numbered days and I did the odd ones. We wrote our commentaries in the Notes app on the Iphone and shared them with each other each day. It was a great way to stay together even though she lives in the PNW and I live in the LSS. In September of this year Whimsy came along in the form of ST to change our family and our lives for the good. That was unexpected and unanticipated. God threw some whimsy into our lives and mostly MT, CT and ST plus WT and BT. This has been a good exercise and it makes 2025 memorable. The challenge going forward is to apply these lessons and draw closer each day to Christ and to do that with excitement and anticipation. Catching Whimsey. Goff’s ability to reach individuals wherever they are in their spiritual journey and encourage them to live differently proves effortless. Catching Whimsy refers to a life with strategy and devotion to what is most important. However, it is more than that. It is the ability to look at the horizon with your eyes fixed on Jesus and capture the joy no matter the circumstance. When we do this, we love a little bigger and embrace every day with a fresh perspective and authentic purpose while serving Jesus.

I LOVE this devotional! I knew I would because Bob’s words never disappoint. The topic is super timely with where we are as a country (USA) and the need for these reminders. We need to be open to being strategically whimsical and full of wonder in our daily lives. Becoming more child-like in that way reframed how we see ourselves and those around us and difficult situations we may face. It makes us appreciate the Father more and I believe opens us up to true genuine love, joy, and gratitude. His storytelling is top notch and gets the point across rather quickly with each daily entry to help you set your mind right for the day ahead. I recommend anyone start their 2025 off right with this book!
