Amish Calling #3

With All Her Heart

Rate this book
Bonnie and Elijah each believe that marriage is not in their futures . . . but they hadn't counted on God's plans being bigger than their own imaginations.

Bonnie Yoder owns and operates a gift shop popular with tourists and local shoppers alike. She's glad she's found a way to be a productive member of her Plain community where all women aspire to marry and have children--something she's sure she'll never do because of her physical disability.

Elijah Miller has been acutely shy his entire life, which makes joining his brothers as auctioneers unthinkable. It also means he's never courted a woman. Instead, he spends every spare moment creating wooden children's toys and child-size furniture in a workshop he built behind his parents' house, all the while dreaming of starting his own business.

It's that dream that prompts Elijah to approach Bonnie about selling his wares in her store. He feels an immediate connection. So does Bonnie, but she's afraid to believe he'll ever see her as more than a shop owner kind enough to sell his toys. Elijah's convinced that someone so sure of herself would never be interested in a man who's too shy to put two sentences together around her.

What they can't see, others can. Matchmaking mothers and caring friends conspire to bring the two together. After spending time with each other, Elijah and Bonnie learn that sometimes the most challenging obstacle is a lack of faith--in themselves and in God. Together, they will traverse a difficult road to find their way to the future they've never allowed themselves to dream of having.

Beautiful meaningful Title! Awesome cover and Heartfelt Amish Romance novel! Master Story Teller Kelly Irvin gives her readers not one but two romances in this uplifting inspirational story. I was totally drawn into the book from the first chapter . I loved all the characters that made this book seem so realistic. The theme of the book dealt with people with disabilities due to genetic disorders and accidents. How these disabilities affected the way they lived their lives. Putting their trust in God for their future instead of letting a disability rule their lives. I thought the book was very well written and researched. I have enjoyed every book in this series but this one goes on my favorite shelf.
Bonnie Yoder never gave much thought to getting married. At a young age she found out that she had Spinal Muscular Atrophy or SMA. Gradually she was losing the strength in her muscles which caused her to depend on a rollator to get around. Bonnie owned Homespun Handicrafts, a shop in Lee’s Gulch Virginia. Two other Amish friends who also had disabilities helped her run the shop. Bonnie felt her SMA held her back from having a normal life with a husband and children.
Elijah Miller is part of a large loud Amish family . Most of the men in the family are Auctioneers and on the road six months of the year. Elijah is different from his brothers. He’s always been shy and the thought of being an Auctioneer makes him physically sick. He’s talented in making wooden toys and hopes to sell them at Bonnie’s shop. For years Elijah has had a crush on Bonnie. She is so pretty that he would like to court her but he can’t even get up the nerve to go to her shop to see if he could sell his toys there on consignment.
I highly recommend With All Her Heart to readers of Amish Romance and Christian Fiction. This book is part of a series. Some of the characters are carried over from other books in this series. I feel that this book could be read out of order without reading the other books. This book is scheduled for release on 1/28/25.
I voluntarily read an advanced Readers Copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions shared here in this review are solely my own.

Kelly Irvin’s third book in the Amish Calling series is a heartwarming tale of love and acceptance. The series begins with an insightful Author’s Note that delves into the concept of the “founder effect,” a phenomenon experienced by some Plain families due to a limited gene pool. Despite this, these families firmly believe that every child, regardless of disability, is cherished and considered special.

The story follows Bonnie Yoder, a co-owner of a successful gift shop with two other disabled Amish women. While Bonnie has managed her disability well and achieved success in her business, she has never imagined marriage or children in her future.

Elijah Miller, on the other hand, comes from a family of auctioneers but struggles with shyness, making it unlikely that he will follow in his father’s footsteps. Instead, he finds solace and passion in creating wooden toys from carvings. He has been working in a workshop behind his family’s home and dreams of turning his hobby into a business and eventually having his own family.

Elijah and Bonnie strike a deal for him to sell his wooden carvings at her gift shop. As they spend time together, they realize that there’s a deeper connection between them despite the challenges they face. Elijah’s shyness just might hold him back. And Bonnie struggles with the idea of being a good Plain wife and mother due to her disability. In fact, she finds it impossible to imagine.

While it is clear that there is a strong connection between Elijah and Bonnie, the couple struggle to find a way that will bring them both happiness. This book is a story of love and acceptance that celebrates the happiness of even less-than-perfect protagonists. The author’s sensitivity in portraying these characters’ struggles and their eventual happy endings is truly commendable.

While the main focus of the story is on Elijah and Bonnie’s love story, there’s also a delightful secondary love story that adds to the overall charm of the narrative. Additionally, I must mention the profound love and care shown by the Plain community towards disabled individuals and children in their midst. It’s a testament to the values and beliefs that reinforces their society’s ways.

Many thanks to Zondervan Fiction and to NetGalley for this ARC for review. This is my honest opinion.

This is the second book in the series. Bonnie owns a store and she has a physical disability. Elijah is a very quiet man whose farher, grandfather, and brothers are all auctioneers. Elijah does not want to be an auctioneer. He wants to make furniture for children. Elijah is interested in Bonnie, but she fears that he does not know what he is getting into. She uses a walker, but she knows a wheelchair in her future. It is very sad book, but they overcome their obstacles and are happy. I especially liked Bonnie and Elijah‘s mothers because they support their children and do some matchmaking on the side.

This is the first book that I have read by this author, and was pretty good.

                    ...............
Negative Content

A unknown version of the Bible is used.

The word infernal is thought once.

A person swore they'd’ never go through something again.

A person said that they'd seen too much to pussyfoot around.

A mention of a man talking about his very sick brother, saying “He’s so narrisch. He’s been throwing up and complaining of a stomachache for two days. He insisted it was food poisoning.” And that calling his brother stupid (narrisch) was Toby’s way of saying he was worried.

A mention that a woman kissed a cat's nose.

When a man asks his brother brother if he had any regrets, his brother answered “Do I miss the microphone and my smooth-as-a-bopli’s-behind vocals? I do.” (bopli's = babys)

A mention that a woman thought she’d work seven days a week if Mom would let her.

A man tells his brother “I guess I still have some pointers on how to get rid of the jitters.” (for calling auctions). His brother asks “It doesn’t involve imagining them with no clothes on, does it?” One of the instructor’s suggestions— offered in jest. “No way..." (Not a necessary comment.)

A woman says “My mamm and dat are still yakking with yours.”

A son thinks that parents weren’t supposed to meddle in their children’s pursuit of a husband or wife. That his rumspringa hadn’t produced a wife was his own business.

A woman says to her friend, “I see the wheels turning. What are you thinking about, friend?” to which she replied “Nothing worth saying.” and thinks, nothing that wouldn’t get her sent to Hades for all eternity.

A mention that a "Miranda Lambert’s man-who-done-her-wrong lyrics blaring from overhead speakers".

A man asks a woman if she would like to go fishing with him on Sunday, and that it was their "day off from church". They do go fishing that Sunday.

Some mentions of the Amish thinking they couldn't know for sure if people went to heaven.
A mention that the thought that someone that somebody loved who had passed might be lonely too was almost too much to bear.
A widow asked a widower if he visited his late wife's grave, and he said “I did when I lived in Berlin. After I came to Virginia, I realized I didn’t have to physically visit her grave to feel close to her. She’s in a cooling breeze, a bird’s song, in the rain, and even the thunderstorms.”

A mother is trying to encourage her daughter to get married, and says “Gott didn’t mean for people to be alone. That’s why He created Eve from Adam’s rib. He knew it wasn’t gut for man to be alone. He needed a helpmate—” and her daughter interrupted her" saying “Mamm, seriously, you’re quoting Genesis to me?” the daughter snorted, thinking it wasn’t the Scripture itself. It was as familiar as the Lord’s Prayer. As the Ten Commandments.

A woman fell, and thinks maybe if she could reach a tree, she could use a branch to pull herself up far enough to get her legs under her.
She straightened. She eyed the selection along the road. They were old trees that towered far above her. Not a single low -hanging bough. Come on, Gott. (Not sure if it was irreverent or not.)

A engaged couple kiss, and when they finally broke apart, the woman clasped the fiancée's face in her hands and asked, “...did you lure me out here to the van so we could kiss and make out like youngies?” Her fiancée replied “Since we never got to do this as youngies, I thought it was about time.”

                  .................
Trigger Warnings

A mention that a daughter asks her mother why she was up so early, and she answered “I’m going fishing.” Her mom flashed her a “top that”smile. The daughter thinks that her mother managed to sound as if that wasn’t the most astonishing utterance since telling her daughter about the birds and the bees after she witnessed two horses doing their business in a nearby meadow in broad daylight in front of God and everybody.

                   ..............
Other

A mention that a woman was nursing her baby in front of others. Nursing is a perfectly natural thing, but it's awkward and unwise to do it in front of other people.

A widow thinks that in the end women had to submit to the men in their lives, but that didn’t mean she couldn’t speak her peace first. Good thing, or she might blow an artery trying to contain it. (Wives are to submit to their own husband, but not to just any man in her life.)
Later, it mentions her trying to apologize, saying “About what I said earlier—”“Don’t worry about it. You were right.” The words seemed to come easily to him. “I’m always sticking my nose where it doesn’t belong. You said so yourself the first time we met.”“I didn’t have to be so nasty about it. Sometimes I forget my place.”“I imagine it’s hard to adjust to having a bruder run your life after your mann did it for so long.”“Bart would say I should submit. It’s a woman’s lot to submit. Gott loves an obedient believer. Gott forgive me for being so full of hochmut.”

A mention of a woman thinking that they were supposed to accept the circumstances of their lives, come what may, but nobody really explained how to do that.

Some mentions that plain women did not step out in public with another man other then family.
A man tell another man and woman “The diner is a popular place. Just about everyone from the Gmay comes here at least once a week.” and she thinks, was that an admonition? The man continues “Families do, anyway,”... “The youngies know how to court in private.” and the woman thinks, definitely an admonition. It mentions guilt slow-danced in her head.

A mention of a woman saying to her mother and thinking that she'd be home alone where nobody would see her, so she could wear her hair in a ponytail and tie a scarf around her head and be done with it.

A mention of the Amish belief that a woman has to have her head covered to pray, no matter where.

A mention of a mom telling a single woman, “Wait. I know it’s hard for you to see my family growing.” It mentioned her roundabout way of referring to being with child paid lip service to the Plain tradition of keeping such rites of passage private.

This my first Amish book. I have always wondered the ways of the Amish. I love that this was a fictional book that taught you about serious health issues they might encounter. I love that both main characters battled their own type of issues. This was a book about growing as a person, allowing people in, going for your dreams and standing up for yourself.

I ordered this whole series for the library. I believe they will be a big hit.

Bonnie and Elijah have known each other for years but never considered each other in marriage. However, it all changed when Elijah brought his woodworking wares to Bonnie's store. Bonnie has a special store that employees Amish like herself who suffers from health problems. Bonnie knows that a wheel chair is in her near future and she does not want to burden anyone. She worries about having children and not being able to do the necessary chores that most of us take for granted. Elijah himself is very shy and being shy does not do well with the family business of auctioneering. His own family is suffering from health issues are are relying on him to step up.

Bonnie and Elijah develop a friendship of respect and admiration. They both must face their fears and deal with pride. The pride of asking for help. Pride comes in different forms. Amish novels like this reflect on faith and help you with your own. Maybe to see your own struggles that you may be blinded to.

A special Thank you to Zondervan Publishing and Netgalley for the ARC and the opportunity to post an honest review.

Such a sweet story! I love how the three young ladies overcome so many obstacles and run their own store. The relationship between Elijah and Slowpoke is so sweet!!! I thought Theo was such a fun character and one I wished to hear more about. The authors telling of these stories with the challenges faced by the characters was insightful and memorable.

Thanks to netgalley and the publisher for the arc. The opinions are my own.

With All Her Heart is a great Amish romance! I truly enjoyed getting into this world once again. This series highlights genetic diseases that occur in Amish communities due to a smaller genetic pool when having children. Bonnie is a gift store worker who has a physical disability that has left her wary of people helping her. Elijah crafts wooden toys to sell in her shop. He suffers from social anxiety and finds it difficult to talk to Bonnie despite his attraction to her. Their growing friendship and romance was really sweet. I also liked that at the same time Bonnie’s mother is trying to open herself up to love again. I would recommend this series if you like Amish reads! Another great book in this series! The Miller sons are all so different and have their challenges to overcome, but they learn to rely on God for help. I love that the main focus is the genetic disabilities as a result of the Amish closely intermarrying. I knew that certain diseases are prevalent among the Amish, but few fiction books mention it, preferring the romanticized version of this simple lifestyle. But I appreciated the author addressing it head on in a very respectful way. The characters in this book view all life as a blessing. It is an attitude we should also aspire to.
The dialogue throughout the series has been choppy, but this book was better. There were still times I was not sure which character was speaking, which made the conversation difficult to follow sometimes.
Overall, I enjoyed this book and read through it in a couple of days. For a refreshingly honest trip to Amish country, I recommend it. You do not have to read the other 2 books first, but it is helpful to get the background before reading book 3. I would love to see more in this series.

With All Her Heart by by Kelly Irvin
Book 3 of 3: Amish Calling
Bonnie is successful in her crafts shop but fears no man will see past her disability to her strong and loving heart. Elijah dreams of leaving the family business to focus on his carvings. Can they find a new path together?
Elijah Miller is a quiet and painfully shy man with a talent for carving the handmade toys and furniture that tourists in the Amish shops love. The large, boisterous Miller family is anything but shy. With a thriving auction business, they want him to do what he hates most: taking the stage and calling the auctions. He loves his family and wants to support them, but will they allow room for Elijah to follow his own dream?
Bonnie Yoder began the Homespun Handicrafts with her friends, Sophia and Carol. Each has a physical disability to overcome but together they prove that wheelchairs and rollators will not stop them from building a business and a craft community. Bonnie, with her chestnut curls and pretty face, yearns for a husband and family of her own but fears her spinal condition will keep any Amish man from choosing a life with her. Can a man like Elijah see past her walker to the woman behind it?
With the support of his beloved dog, Slowpoke, Elijah finds the courage to bring in samples of his handcrafted toys for Bonnie to consider for display in the shop. Through her advice, Elijah begins to see a possible new life doing what he loves best. Bonnie, in reconnecting with this old school friend, fears that the hope for a relationship that she feels may be another disappointment.
Can Elijah and Bonnie help each other find the lives they want and the love they desire?
This is Bonnie Yoder and Elijah Miller's story.
“Hannah, can you handle the cash register while I talk with Elijah?”
Elijah Miller’s stricken expression sent a flaming arrow straight to Bonnie Yoder’s heart. She angled her rollator between him and the door to keep him from making a run for it. “That box looks heavy.”
Taking advantage of an aisle made extra wide to accommodate wheelchairs, Bonnie passed Elijah and took the lead past displays of leather goods, jewelry, birdhouses, candles, soaps, ceramics, pottery, paintings, scarves, totes, baskets, and handmade greeting cards, all created by area artisans. Then bookshelves filled with books written by Plain authors and even some Amish romance novels written by English authors followed. Bonnie and her co-owners did their best to give local and regional artisans, specifically ones with disabilities, a place to sell their wares.
Humming “Amazing Grace,” Elijah Miller stuck a box filled with wooden toys into the back of his buggy next to a rocking horse, a doll’s cradle, a tiny table with four matching chairs, and a child- size wooden push lawn mower toy. The humming and that particular hymn took his mind off what was coming. He brushed his hands together. “That’ll do it.”
I recommend this book

Disabilities of all kinds step into the limelight in "With All Her Heart" by Kelly Irvin, book 3 in her Amish Calling series. From hereditary disabilities to those caused by accidents, the main characters find ways to be productive members of their Amish society.

Bonnie Yoder has something called SMA (spinal muscular atrophy), a rare disease that is gradually stealing her muscles. She uses a rollator to walk, and is determined to walk as long as she can, thank you very much. She often needs help but is offended if anyone just steps in without asking if she needs help. She feels she has been a burden on her mother all her life, but is unwilling to entertain any thoughts of marriage because she doesn't want to go into such an unequal union. She owns and operates a craft shop with two of her friends - all of whom are disabled in one way or another. The crafts she sells are mostly made by disabled members of her Amish community, because everyone needs to feel valued for what they can contribute.

Eli Miller is an oddity in his family of auctioneers. His worst nightmare is standing in front of a group of people with all eyes on him as he calls an auction, but that is exactly what his father asks him to do. Every other man in his family has stepped up to the mic without fear and done his duty to the family. Eli has taken the classes and passed with flying colors but when he actually tries he freezes and can't get a word past his closed throat. His dream is to make children's toys and furniture in his shop, selling them in Bonnie's store. He feels misunderstood as the lone introvert in his family of extroverts. It also doesn't hurt that he's been half in love with Bonnie Yoder ever since their school days.

As Bonnie and Eli work together to sell his toys, and the pressure from his father mounts to join them on the auction circuit, can Eli prove to himself that 1. he IS capable of calling an auction without freezing, and 2. he can convince his father that auctioneering isn't what he wants for his life? When Bonnie's condition deteriorates and she pulls back from him, can Eli convince her to give their love a chance?

As the daughter of a man who was disabled at 28 due to a 52' fall from the top of a silo he was building, I know all about stubborn Mennonites who don't want help if they don't NEED help. Bonnie's constant "I can do that myself" rang pretty true in my mind, although I thought she took it too far to her own detriment. I have to say, I was amazed by Eli and his willingness to take Bonnie's limitations and look right past them to the beautiful heart she tried so hard to protect. Most people would be like the young man at the Bent and Dent who was interested as long as she was pushing a shopping cart but the minute she grabbed her rollator, he completely lost interest in Bonnie.

In many ways, this was a harder book for me to read than the others in the series, and maybe it is because, in my mind's eye, I could see the reactions people sometimes had to my dad and his cane. Readers interested in learning about the Amish, and the Founder Effect, and the many rare diseases found among the Amish population, will find a wealth of knowledge here. I also enjoyed revisiting the characters from the first two books in the series, and I absolutely loved Eli. He is a gem! Kelly Irvin has written a book that came straight from her heart for the disabled. Don't miss it!

I listened to this one on the NetGalley Shelf app, and was impressed with the narrator and her Pennsylvania Dutch pronunciations. (My dad was fluent, so I heard it often and recognize when it's being butchered.)

Oh, what a wonderful book this was. I have really enjoyed Kelly Irvin’s series about characters dealing with different disabilities. And this book does not disappoint.

The story centers around the extremely shy Elijah Miller who is desperate not to be a part of his auctioneering family’s business. Elijah is gifted at woodworking and creating beautiful toys and children’s furniture. He would like to be able to sell his work and have his own business. His family does not understand his shyness and why he gets painfully tongue-tied in front of most people.

Bonnie Yoder and her mother have been struggling since the death of Bonnie’s beloved father. Bonnie also has a terrible degenerative, crippling disease that will ultimately put her in a wheelchair. She has fought her diagnosis for years and has opened a successful gift shop with two other disabled women. Bonnie and Elijah attended school together and she often stuck up for him when they were kids. When Elijah shows up at her shop, she is pleased with his work, and despite his awkwardness, contracts with him for more pieces. She finds herself attracted to him but shuts down any possibility of interest since she sees herself as someone who will have to spend her life alone as a result of her disability. Elijah finds her pretty and has always liked her. She is one of the few people he can stammer out a few words with.

In the meantime, Bonnie’s widowed mother Jocelyn has been in a deep hole unable to move past her grief. That is until the hired hand, widower Theo comes into the picture. He too, had lost his wife a year before and is trying to start his life over.

Kelly Irvin takes the reader on a double journey through both of these love stories. Questions hover about how God could have allowed such hardships, and how people deal with such insurmountable problems. God’s grace and forgiveness echo from the pages. Both Bonnie and her mother have to learn to deal with their pride and determination to do everything themselves. Elijah has to face his issues and his family and discover what God truly wants for him. Theo, too, has to find forgiveness from his son. These are weighty problems that can cause heart-wrenching decisions, but the story moves sweetly through the obstacles to get to an HEA. I do like that Kelly Irvin does not try to put a happy face on the very real circumstances the characters face, and I love that the story emphasizes that people with serious issues can and do find love and fulfilling lives. It was a wonderful and compelling read and I highly recommend it.

I received an advance reader copy of this book for free and I am voluntarily leaving my honest review.

"With All Her Heart" by Kelly Irvin is a sweet Amish romance. Bonnie was diagnosed with Spinal Muscular atrophy as a young child and uses a rollator to get around. Her, along with 3 other friends who have disabilities in her Amish community run a store that caters to selling Amish made goods by disabled individuals in their community to tourists.

Bonnie struggles with coming to terms with her condition and it has impacted her thoughts on life, marriage and having kids though her doctor says she can still have children despite her condition. She knows her condition is progressive and will be a major factor in any relationship she forms. Her school friend Elijah suffers from crippling anxiety and even has an emotional support animal that goes everywhere with him. He's dealing with the expectations his father has for him to enter the family auctioneering business - something he just isn't able to come to terms with due to his anxiety.

Bonnie's mother, who is a widow also has her own chance at romance in this book. It was great to see a 50 year old woman's romantic journey being written about since so many stories revolve around younger individuals and their romances.

This sweet story does a great job of showing how disabilities are looked at in the Amish community. It touches on the "founder effect" in which due to the small gene pool in many Amish communities, there is a higher incidence of children being born with various disabling medical conditions. It is great to see that they are valued as gifts from God in most cases, but in others, they can also be looked down upon. The disability representation in this book is strong and multiple types of medical conditions are mentioned in this book.

There are also very strong faith themes which go throughout the book. The characters pray, encourage one another's faith and talk openly about God's will for their lives. This is a Christian fiction book, like most Amish fiction so readers should expect to see the faith themes throughout. The faith is well done and was encouraging to me as a reader to see.

I would recommend this book to anyone ages 16+. There is some kissing, but it sticks to just that and nothing else. Marriage, loss of spouse and worries about caring for children for disabled individuals are themes throughout, however it is tastefully done and done in a very caring, compassionate manor.

Thank you to Thomas Nelson and Zondervan Fiction Audio for the opportunity to listen to an ARC of this book. All opinions expressed are my own.

With All Her Heart is the 3rd book in the Amish Calling Series. This series deals with health issues that are often found in Amish Communities due to something called the Founder's Effect. Elijah Miller is the last brother in the family not married yet. He doesn't believe he is marriage material as he is gone so often during the year with the family's auction business. He is very shy and doesn't want to be an auctioneer, he wants to make wooden toys. He takes a batch of toys to Bonnie Yoder who owns and operates a gift shop popular with tourists and local shoppers alike. She is impressed with his work and knows she can sell them. After she sells them, she asks for more, but with one of his brother's in the hospital after his appendix burst, he is needed to work the auctions. Bonnie has Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) is a genetic disorder that leads to the progressive loss of motor neurons, causing weakness and muscle atrophy, and is using a rollator, but getting weaker. She and Elijah were school friends and liked each other, but both of them believe that they are not marriage material. Bonnie could never hold a baby, if she is able to have one. As they begin to spend more time together, they realize that they do have feelings for one another, but then tragedy strikes.

I enjoyed the final book in this series. It was not an easy story to read, especially when health issues are part of the plot. I felt for both Bonnie and Elijah. They were both wonderful people, caring and doing for others, but didn't do for themselves. It was nice to see characters from the previous books and what their lives were like now. Bonnie lives with her widowed mother and there is a widower that moved to their community that seems to have eyes for her. With a real estate agent trying to get her mother to sell the farm, Bonnie's best friend getting married and a possible romance, she has a lot going on, besides running her own business. I enjoyed this book as it brings the series to a nice close. I didn't know about the Founder's Effect in Amish Communities, but Kelly Irvin gives an introduction to the story as well as an explanation in the story itself. I listened to the audiobook, narrated by Lauren Berst. She narrated the whole series and does a wonderful job with the voices, tone, expression and pacing. If you enjoy audiobooks, then I think you would enjoy listening to this one, but whatever format you prefer, I recommend this book and series to those who enjoy Amish Fiction.

With All Her Heart by Kelly Irvin – Likeable, Thoughtful Characters

Kelly Irvin’s newest novel With All Her Heart – is the third book in the Amish Calling series. I enjoy Kelly’s Amish themed books and looked forward reading this story.

With All Her Heart is a little different from most of the author’s other novels. In the introduction the author mentions that Amish communities may have a higher rate of disabilities or diseases because of marriage within their community and the limited gene pool. She also mentioned the love and acceptance the Amish have for their children, family, friends, and members of their community.

The main character in this book is Bonnie Yoder who has a disability called spinal muscular atrophy. Bonnie is co-owner of a shop with two of her friends who are also disabled. Bonnie is smart, beautiful, hardworking, and wants to be independent as possible. Bonnie would love to be married and have children. But she is resolved to remain single and not be a burden on others because of her declining health.

Thankfully, Bonnie has the love and support from her mother, Jocelyn Yoder. Jocelyn husband Marlin died two years ago, but he is still a part of her life.

But God is at work and may bring the unexpected into their lives. Like Elijah Miller a quiet and shy man that Bonnie had gone to school with. Or Jocelyn’s brother Uriah bringing his friend Theo over to see what things need work, repairs, or maintenance on Jocelyn’s property.

I enjoyed reading this book and the characters were very likable. I especially enjoyed Jocelyn, she was loving, caring, supportive and honest in dealing with her grief. Theo was a refreshing character, honest and open. I also liked Elijah. Though he was shy, he learned to work through that which is hard, and to fight for what he wanted.

It was eye opening to think of how challenging it would be to have a disability and live life without the modern-day conveniences that can make everyday tasks a little easier.

I enjoyed reading With All Her Heart by Kelly Irvin and recommend it. If you enjoy Amish themed novels, or a little romance, or Kelly Irvin’s novels be sure to get her newest book which will be released on January 28, 2025.

I would like to thank Zondervan Fiction and NetGalley for the opportunity to read a complimentary copy of With All Her Heart by Kelly Irvin. I was under no obligation to give a favorable review.

So, this is book #3 in the series….and I have to say, it’s always nice to come back in and meet up with all the characters that you’ve come to know and love in previous books!

Elijah is a woodworker. Unlike the rest of the men in his family, he is SHY! Like…acutely shy. Like, he can’t even speak to someone in public. And what profession is his family in, you ask? Well, they’re auctioneers! You know…you go out in public and place items up for bids…and interact with a multitude of people! 😮👀😩. There’s no way he can ever see himself doing this!

And then we have Bonnie. She’s a sweet young woman with a nasty disease that causes her to need braces, and a rollator (walker), in order for her to do her daily activities. She’s not worried about it, per se, but she doesn’t ever see herself getting married or having kids… So, it’s kind of always there in the back of her mind…

One day Elijah approaches her, with the intention of asking if it would be ok to sell some of his items in her store. That was the INTENTION, anyway….but of course, once she’s near him he just clams up!

Bonnie and two friends run a store that sells to her neighbors, as well as tourists…and all three friends have some type of disability….yet they manage to hold their own, and run a very successful store….on their own!!

Set in small town Maryland, with Amish surroundings and beliefs, this one is sure to tug at your heartstrings…

In the meantime, Bonnie and her Mom are still reeling from their recent loss…but still trying to work their way through it… and it seems like there’s just always…one…more…thing…

4 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️for me!

#WithAllHerHeart (Amish Calling #3) by #KellyIrvin and narrated nicely by #LaurenBerst.

Oh, and just LOOK at this cover with Bonnie on it!! She is just the sweetest thing…

Thanks so much to #NetGalley, #ThomasNelson and #ZondervanFictionAudio for an ARC of the audiobook which is due to be released in a few short days! Please look 👀 for it starting 1/28/25!

Once again, Kelly has crafted an absolutely captivating story! What I especially loved about this one is that it features not just one, but two beautiful romance stories.

The story follows Bonnie, a kind-hearted Amish woman who has lived with Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) since childhood, a condition that gradually weakens her muscles over time. She has found purpose and joy in running Homespun Handicrafts, a shop she manages alongside two friends, all of whom have disabilities. Through their daily lives, the story offers a touching glimpse into their world and what courting looks like for them.

Bonnie has always tried to focus on gratitude, appreciating what she has rather than dwelling on the progression of her condition. But as time passes, she begins to feel like the shop is no longer enough. Enter Elijah, a childhood friend who suddenly reappears in her life. He is drawn to her, and she to him, yet Bonnie refuses to entertain the idea of romance. She doesn’t want to stand in the way of Elijah courting someone who wouldn’t require as much care as she does.

Elijah, a gentle and reserved soul, struggles to fit into a family that is so different from him. But despite his anxieties, Bonnie is the one person with whom he feels truly at ease. She stands out to him in a way no one else does. Yet Bonnie insists on keeping their relationship strictly business, allowing him to sell his products in her store, nothing more. But Elijah only has eyes for her.

As Bonnie’s condition worsens, the growing affection between them creates tension. If they can’t be together, being in each other’s presence becomes painful. Will Bonnie be able to see herself through Elijah’s eyes...that her future, though uncertain, can still be beautiful? That she is not a burden, but a blessing in his life?

And without giving anything away...other romances blossom around Bonnie as well, including one involving her mother! This is a such heartwarming, tender story you won’t want to miss!

I received a complimentary copy of this book, and this review reflects my honest opinion.

Title: With all My Heart
Author: Kelly Irvin
Series: Amish Calling #3
Format: 🎧
Narrator: Lauren Berst
Publisher: Thomas Nelson and Zondervan Fiction AUdio
Genre: Amish
Audiobook Pub Date: January 28, 2025

This series features Amish families who have had some difficult health issues and physical handicaps which believe to be a result of the Amish closely intermarrying.

Bonnie Yoder and Elijah Miller each believe that marriage is not in their futures

I have read many Amish stories and always enjoyed them. Typically the stories I read are mysteries; this one is a bit different for me. I have not read another that dealt with certain diseases that are prevalent among the Amish,

In this story Bonnie Yoder, has a disability but is able to manage her disability and run a successful gift shop. She is co-owner and runs the shop with two other disabled Amish women. Bonnie believes her disability prevents her from marriage or raising children.

Elijah Miller struggles with shyness. He comes from a family of auctioneers but knows it is unlikely that he will follow in his father’s footsteps.
He enjoys creating wooden toys from carvings and hopes he can turn his hobby into a business

He finally approaches Bonnie about selling his wooden toys and other carvings in her store.
The two immediate feel a connection. However, Bonnie is afraid to believe their relationship would be anything other than business.
Elijah is convinced Bonnie would never be interested in a man who's too shy to participate in a conversation.
Bonnie and Elijah are the main characters in this story and I was sure a HEA was in the works. However there is more to this story and it kept me reading!

I have read many Amish stories and always enjoyed them!
Typically the stories I read are mysteries; this series is different – enjoyable and yes! Heartwarming.

Want to thank NetGalley and Thomas Nelson &/Zondervan Fiction Audio this audiobook.

Bonnie Yoder is part owner and employee in the Homespun Handicrafts with her friends, Sophia and Carol. Each of the three young adult Amish women have a handicap. Bonnie, the main character, has SMA and has a rollator which is often mistaken for a walker. While Bonnie would dearly love to have what all Amish girls dream of, a husband and lots of children, she knows this is not the dream that will come true for her due to her physical disability. She can tell that she is becoming weaker and will soon be in a wheelchair. She will not be able to hold a baby, or run after a child. It would not be fair to a marry and man and not be able to be the kind of wife he would want and deserve. Bonnie occasionally gets accused of having pity parties for herself.
Then, there's Elijah who comes from a family of auctioneers and is expected to call auctions as well. However, Elijah cannot possibly see himself doing that. He is quiet and does not enjoy being the center of attention. His talent is wood crafting. Oh, the things he is able to create from wood! Small child size table and chairs, barns with animals, child size rocking chairs. But, his father is determined that he join the family business.
Elijah took some of his creations into Homespun Handicrafts and Bonnie is enthusiastic about selling them in the shop and draws up a contract with Elijah. Bonnie and Elijah have feelings for each other, but each have some large obstacles to overcome. I found their matchmaking mothers to be quite humorous.
This is a sweet story. The Amish see these physical disabilities within their community as something that makes the children 'special.' Would you if you had had one? Bonnie had a most difficult time seeing herself as 'special.' She yearned to be like others.
I was given an advanced ecopy by the publisher, Zondervan, through Netgalley. I was under no obligation to leave a positive review.

This book tells the story of Elijah Miller, a shy young man, and Bonnie Yoder, a young woman with spinal muscular atrophy (SMA). "Painfully shy" doesn’t even cover Elijah’s struggle, but Bonnie notices this and helps him feel comfortable. However, Elijah’s family of auctioneers doesn’t see his discomfort and expects him to take part in the family business—calling auctions, no less.

Bonnie hasn’t let SMA slow her down. She co-owns a successful handmade gift shop with two other women who also have special needs. Bonnie excels at sewing, arranging displays, and keeping the books. Elijah is drawn to her beauty, inside and out, but struggles to have conversations without his dog, Slowpoke, by his side.

Their relationship moves slowly as they both grapple with their own challenges. Elijah can barely talk without Slowpoke, and Bonnie feels her disability has given her a different lot in life. They spend so much time helping each other, it delays their personal growth.

While this book uplifts those with disabilities, I found the number of characters with limitations unrealistic, even considering the Amish community's genetic background. As someone with a disability, I’ve only met that many others in hospital settings.

Jocelyn, Bonnie’s mother, stole the show for me. Her worries, encouragement, and motherly love were compelling. I related to her more, possibly because we’re closer in age.

𝓦𝓲𝓽𝓱 𝓐𝓵𝓵 𝓗𝓮𝓻 𝓗𝓮𝓪𝓻𝓽 is the third book in the Amish Calling series but can be read as a standalone. It's a sweet story of second chances, friends to romance, and life with disabilities.

I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

Kelly Irvin is an expert attacking difficult topics in her fiction and treating them with the utmost respect and sensitivity. Her latest novel, With All Her Heart, is no exception.

Certain genetic developmental disabilities—mental and physical—are common among the Amish. While all children are deemed gifts from God, the Amish consider these disabled children “special” and treat them as extra-sweet blessings.

Bonnie Yoder runs Homespun Handicrafts with her friends, Sophia and Carol. All three young women have physical disabilities, but they have learned to accept their limitations and pursue their goals. Sophia plans to marry soon, and Bonnie can’t help but long for a home and family of her own. But it wouldn’t be fair to saddle a man with a wife who might one day be an invalid, would it? Especially kind, sweet Elijah Miller.

Elijah has his own issues to resolve. His family operates an auction business. All the men are expected to participate in this work. The problem is Elijah is shy. He does not want to be in the limelight or be an auctioneer. He wants to own his own business crafting wooden toys to sell at Homespun Handicrafts. And he wants to persuade Bonnie to give their relationship a chance.

Can these two young people conquer their fears and doubts to make their dreams a reality?

Kelly Irvin’s characters are so multidimensional and so likable. She explains the medical issues simply in terms the reader can easily understand and explores the characters’ feelings with great care. Themes of acceptance, respect, and trust run throughout the well-crafted plot. As always, Kelly has woven a touching story interspersed with just the right amount of romance and faith. With All Her Heart is a book to be savored by all who enjoy inspirational fiction.

This was a beautiful and heartwarming Amish romance!

Bonnie is content running her store, determined to not let her physical disability - spinal muscular atrophy - stop her. Except when it comes to love. She has resigned herself to the fact that love will never be in her future.

Elijah has always been shy, but Bonnie can bring out his words. For Elijah, there has never been anyone else besides Bonnie. He sees past her disability, right to her heart. Elijah wants to go on a different path to his family, and must decide if he is brave enough to go after what he really wants.

Elijah was such a quiet hero, which I loved seeing. Bonnie had real fight, but could also be a bit feisty, sometimes to her own detriment. Irvin has captured Bonnie's character so well. Her struggles felt so real! I loved these two characters, they aren't your standard fare and I found them more relatable because of it.

Not only was I invested in Bonnie and Elijah's story, but Bonnie's mother too. She is a widow and isn't looking for love, but when the chance presents itself, she needs to decide if she is willing to take a second chance on love. As I get older, I am starting to appreciate 'mature' romances a lot more.

With All Her Heart is a story of love and of what it means to trust God, even if what He is giving you is more than you ever thought possible, and that the person standing in the way of your dreams may just be you.

Fans of Amish fiction and Christian romance, this is one not to be missed. I highly recommend it!

#This is the first book I've read in this series and it read fine as a standalone. After reading this, I do want to read the first two books in the series!

Elijah Miller wants to sell his handmade wooden products at Homespun Handicrafts in Lee's Gulch. He is so shy it will be hard to ask the owners to take his items. He loves working with his hands and it would be life-changing to make this work. He feels physically ill at the thought of being a caller at his family's auction business. He just isn't like Troy and Declan.
Bonnie Yoder is a co-owner at the store. She remembers that the Miller brother was shy in school. She has had to make her way in the business world with her two dear friends who are also differently abled. Spinal muscular atrophy causes her to use a rollator to get around in the store and elsewhere. She can be a bit prickly when someone assumes she needs help. She believes that no man would court her and that she will be single for her life.
I received an e-copy of this book from the publisher through NetGalley. I deeply appreciate it and the series from Kelly Irvin. This is my unsolicited opinion. It's an excellent book. I understand the feelings of both main characters and Bonnie's mother, Jocelyn. The author deals with the very real concerns and feelings of people with introverted characteristics and those who have chronic medical conditions. This is a touching story. It goes so well with the previous stories involving the Miller brothers. For readers who have enjoyed the previous books you will recognize Sadie and other series characters. This is a definite five star read for me. I recommend it to readers who like a more realistic Amish story.

With All Her Heart by Kelly Irvin is a heartwarming story about love, acceptance, and faith. We get to learn about the disabilities that affect the Amish because of their limited gene pool. I felt for Bonnie who was struggling with her declining health. She did not want to give up her independence by switching from a rollator to a wheelchair. Bonnie has always wanted a husband and a family, but she did not see how it was feasible. Plus, Bonnie did not wish to be a burden to a husband. I liked the friendship that formed between Bonnie and Elijah. A friendship is a good basis for a romantic relationship. Bonnie and Elijah were good for each other. Both Bonnie and Elijah must face their fears and deal with their pride (there are different forms of pride). Like Bonnie, I have trouble asking for help. There is also a romance between Bonnie’s mother and a new widower. Bonnie’s mother is resistant at first. She does not appreciate her brother’s matchmaking. I especially enjoyed this storyline because the characters are closer to my age. I like how faith was woven into the story. With All Her Heart is the third book (and final) book in the Amish Calling series. While it can be read as a standalone, I recommend reading the series in order. With All Her Heart is a touching tale with handcrafted toys, a special shop, a helpful rollator, social anxiety disorder dilemma, merry matchmakers, a crafty grandpa, and happy hearts.

Everything you love about Amish Reads!

Kelly Irvin does an amazing job of holding her reader's interests as she weaves together Bonnie's story. Amish families have a higher rate of genetic issues and Bonnie is one of the "special" children, as they are called in the plain world. Bonnie has SMA (Spinal Muscle Atrophy) and started a business with her best friends who also have special needs. Her shop sells Amish goods made by those who have disabilities and has done well. She uses a walker with wheels (Rollator) to get around and with her SMA - she feels no one would want a wife who has her challenges and to be a mom who can't fully care for her child. She is set in her ways and is lonely.

Elijah, has always thought Bonnie beautiful and kind when they were in school. He has his own challenges, his family owns an auction business and he is so terribly shy and has a hard time finding words. After a horrible auction fail, he is more determined to make a go of creating wooden treasures and he goes to Bonnie's shop.

Bonnie & Elijah's story is beautiful and healing. Not realizing this was book #3 in this series, I didn't feel like I was missing any information, it only made me want to read more!

Kelly Irvin has given us a unique and special novel with her third book in An Amish Calling series, WITH ALL HER Heart. Ms. Irvin chooses the most distinctive topics to write a story about. I learn so much each time I have the pleasure of reading one of her books.

Bonnie Yoder has SMA, yet she owns Homespun Handicrafts with her friends, Sophia and Carol. Each girl has their own handicap, nevertheless, try to live a normal lifestyle.

Elijah Miller Loves making handmade toys for children, but is called on to help with the family’s auction business. Elijah hates the idea of being an auctioneer.

All the characters in this story are so realistic you feel like you think of them as friends.

There is so much going on in this Fastpace novel that you can’t wait until you can read more.

We are able to watch Elijah and Bonnie struggle to achieve the desires of their hearts.

I was allowed to read an ARC from Zondervan Fiction | Zondervan through NetGalley, but was not required to give a positive review.

You will Thoroughly enjoy this five star book. Order your copy today.
