Omegas of the Shifter Mafia #1

The Wolf Assassin's Mate

Rate this book
Being a protector isn’t supposed to be easy or glamorous. I never expected it to be. We have one to keep shifter-kind safe from those who would do us harm. Sometimes that means doing the ugly and violent things others want to pretend don’t happen. I’m fine with all of that, knowing I’m making the world a better place.

When I get my new mission, I plan to go in, annihilate the threat, and get out. Easy peasy.

Only it’s anything but when I find myself face-to-face with my true mate being held against his will and very, very pregnant. My oath as a protector no longer matters. I have two jobs to do—save my mate and shut down the breeding ring holding him captive—the one run by “the good guys” I work for.

The Wolf Assassin’s Mate is the first book in the new Omegas of the Shifter Mafia M/M Mpreg Shifter Romance. The Wolf Assassin’s Mate features an alpha wolf who thought he was working for the good guys, an omega bear shifter who went out to grab a gallon of milk and never made it home, righting some wrongs, found family, new beginnings, true love, fated mates, an adorable baby (or two), and a guaranteed HEA.

This was book 1 in the "Omegas of the Shifter Mafia" series. This was a book that I enjoyed reading by authors that I love to read. Omega's are being kidnapped and forced to breed. Alpha wolf Hammer and his crew are assassins who rescue omega's while raiding a breeder house he runs into his mate who is very pregnant. Omega bear shifter Gray has been kidnapped beaten and forced to breed when he gets a chance to escape he takes only to run into his mate. Each one of them thinks they are not good for one another. Hammer and his brother Pop tart do it because there omega father was kidnapped. The team finds out that who they are working for is running a breeder house. This book was well written with no errors in grammar or spelling. I am looking forward to reading the next book in this series.

It started well but unfortunately the early promise wasn't maintained. It became predictable and very superficial. At one point their boss is, perhaps, revealed as a 'bad' guy and this is glossed over as a done-deal. I expected better.

This feels slightly more dark than Lorelei's usual books but I kind of like it because of that. It was a nice start and we'll see what else this series has in store for us

- a MM shifter novella! Wolf x bear, rescue mission, fated mates, instalove, MPreg, found family!
- well didn’t this have a harrowing start
- i I feel like the set up for this book was too long for it only being 100 pages
- like he should of been rescued in the first or second chapter so we could get more them?
- i do really love that Gray went back to save Jack tho, like he’s so loyal
- honestly this was way more domestic and cute than i was expecting but i am not mad at all
- i would of like to of gotten Jack’s fair well tho
- thank gos they’re at long last communicating!!
- excellent sex scenes
- Mav getting Fray to try all the gross stuff for it work 😂
- the birthing scene was so good!! very sweet
- and the ending was so sweet! i do wish these were longer because they go into very deep/scary topics but it’s still very surface level

The Wolf Assassin’s Mate is a thrilling and emotionally charged entry into the world of shifter romance, blending action, betrayal, and love into an unforgettable read. This first book in the Omegas of the Shifter Mafia series introduces us to a ruthless alpha wolf assassin and a helpless omega bear shifter whose fates are bound by love, danger, and a shocking conspiracy.

The story begins with the main character, an alpha wolf shifter, who has dedicated his life to protecting shifter-kind from those who seek to harm them. His role as a protector has always been clear-cut—go in, eliminate the threat, and get out. He’s never been one to question orders or the nature of his missions. But everything changes when he is sent on a mission that leads him to uncover a deeply disturbing truth about his own employer.

What he finds is a shattering revelation: his true mate, an omega bear shifter, is being held captive, pregnant, and forced into a breeding ring operated by the very people he works for. In an instant, the alpha’s world is upended, and his focus shifts from fulfilling his oath as a protector to saving the omega he never knew he needed.

The dynamics between the two characters are captivating. The alpha, trained to be a cold and efficient killer, now finds himself torn between his duty to his shifter kin and his newfound responsibility to protect his mate and unborn child. The omega bear shifter is equally compelling, a victim of a cruel conspiracy who becomes both the symbol of innocence and the catalyst for change.

One of the most powerful elements of The Wolf Assassin’s Mate is its exploration of the conflict between duty and personal values. The protagonist’s dedication to protecting his kind is challenged in a visceral way when he discovers the dark truth behind the breeding ring—a betrayal by those he thought were allies. This internal struggle adds layers of complexity to the narrative, as the alpha’s journey becomes not just one of saving his mate but also one of confronting the corruption within his own world.

The themes of fated mates and soul-deep connections are explored with great emotional depth. The moment the alpha meets his mate, there’s an undeniable pull, and despite the odds stacked against them, they share a love that transcends the violence and trauma surrounding them. This bond becomes the driving force for their actions, giving readers a powerful sense of hope amid the darkness.

As with many shifter romances, The Wolf Assassin’s Mate delivers on steamy chemistry, but it also offers a rich emotional payoff. The attraction between the alpha and omega is intense, raw, and filled with a palpable longing for something more than just the immediate physical desire. The Mpreg element adds a unique layer to the romance, with the omega’s pregnancy creating both moments of tenderness and danger as the couple faces the threats around them.

The development of the relationship between the two is gradual but satisfying. The alpha’s transformation from a cold assassin to a man who will stop at nothing to protect his mate is beautifully done, and the omega’s vulnerability and strength shine through as he navigates both his pregnancy and his deepening love for the alpha.

The action scenes are fast-paced and thrilling, filled with suspense and high stakes. The world-building in The Wolf Assassin’s Mate is solid, establishing a society where shifters are both protected and exploited, often by the very systems that claim to serve them. The concept of the shifter mafia and its darker underbelly is intriguing, adding a gritty, dangerous element to the story that keeps readers on edge.

The secondary characters are equally engaging, providing support and a sense of found family for the alpha and omega. These characters, and the bonds they share, set the stage for future books in the series, promising more thrilling adventures and romantic entanglements.

The Wolf Assassin’s Mate is a captivating and emotional rollercoaster that blends romance, action, and suspense into a compelling narrative. The relationship between the alpha and omega is heartwarming and steamy, and the plot's twists and turns will keep readers hooked from beginning to end. With its strong themes of betrayal, love, and redemption, this book is a fantastic start to the Omegas of the Shifter Mafia series. Fans of Mpreg, shifter romance, and action-packed paranormal stories will find themselves fully immersed in this world.

This book is the first one in the Omegas of the Shifter Mafia series. This is a different type of book than one usually thinks of when you pick up this author's book. I was really taken with it. This is the story of Hammer and Gray. Hammer is an alpha wolf shifter who has been working as a team to help rescue imprisoned omegas. Helping them escape from breeding programs that they have been forced into. He trusts his team and believes in his cause. Gray is an omega bear shifter that was captured for the breeding program. He is currently pregnant and doing everything he can to keep his spirits up and try to figure out a way to escape. Luckily for him and his other captives, Hammer and his team have breached the facility. A rescue is in progress. When Gray and Hammer meet, they know instantly that they are fated mates. They have no time to react to that news as they are both busy trying to help others during the rescue. This is their story. Both of them have a lot of stuff to unpack. Will Hammer accept another's child as his own? Will Gray ever become comfortable in the presence of an alpha? What about the info they have that shows that the team may not be working for the good guys after all? That story line will be developed in the upcoming book. This is a well written book and is very easy to read. I am looking forward to the next book in the series.

A great start to the series, where assassins rescue omegas that are being isolated, abused, forced into breeding, and sometimes killed.
Gray is an omega bear shifter who is determined to escape his captors before he gives birth and they take his baby from him.
Hammer is an alpha wolf shifter in charge of a group of men who do whatever is required to rescue those omegas.
Gray and Hammer each recognize the other as their mate, but both men are cautious due to the circumstances of them meeting. Once they finally start honest talking, they realize they both want their connection. Gray's inner strength and Hammer's gentle caring helped merge these two fated mates, creating a loving bond between them.
However, shortly after the rescue, one member of the team - the one who does mostly surveilance - discovers that their boss seems to be one of the bad guys, and makes them question just what they've been doing all this time. Unfortunately, this is all that is discovered and nothing more is mentioned or looked into for the rest of the book.
Jack and the men from Hammer's team all seem like great characters. They add depth to the story and make the reader curious to know their stories.

The start of the Omegas of the Shifter Mafia series with a shifter you don’t want to cross and the omega he helps. Hammer an alpha protector working with a team who rescue omega from the breeding programs where omegas are snatched from the streets, imprisoned forced to have babies and not treated very well so he and his team help rescues them, but this rescue mission holds something more than the others. Gray is an omega bear captured for the breeding team doing his best to see the good in his imprisonment trying to find a way to escape but one issues is he is very pregnant unable to really do much but the moment their compound is broken by men who are there to save them but the moment he lays eyes on the hottie who is saving them he knows that is his mate but a rescue is in progress. Hammer knows the sweet very pregnant bear is his mate, but he can’t focus on that because he has to focus on getting him out. Once he has saved him the trauma, they need to get through especially with a baby on the way will they get through it, will he be there for him, for the baby, does his team take out the breeding cell, will all the omega’s get the help they need to recover, to heal, and do these two find happiness after a terrible beginning?

This story really missed depth on any and all aspects. It actually started rather well, the desperation and hopelessness of the breeding ring depicted good enough. It didn't really reached a depth it could have reached but it was decent.

It just goes down from there. The story is rushed and a lot of things are glossed over. Apparently the guys running the rescue operation are the bad guys? But they're not sure about that either? It feels like the plot is sort of ignored and barely mentioned, instead focussing on Gray and Hammer. And this wouldn't be a bad thing necessarily if you didn't get just enough hints to know there is a plot somewhere. Just not on the surface and enough to actually understand.

Gray has no issues at all with sex, despite having gone through some pretty traumatic experiences with that. It's completely ignored, never mentioned again. It's mentioned somewhere that a therapist is coming by to help Gray with what he went through, but you never go into anymore depth than that. It's also mentioned Gray opens up more to Hammer, but these conversations all happen off-page.

Bit of a boring book to be honest. Just not much that gives any feels.

Bear shifter Gray, an omega captured for a breeding program in a dystopian world where alphas dominate, feels nothing but despair for the grim realities of his situation and the looming fate of his unborn child. Despite the horror and degradation, Gray finds moments of resistance, clinging to the hope of escape and safeguarding his child's future. Alpha wolf shifter Hammer is part of a group dedicated to rescuing omegas from such fates and they embark on a mission that leads them to the facility where Gray and others are held captive. The rescue operation is tense and fraught with danger, even as Gray and Hammer discover their connection, hinting at a predestined bond. Gray's resilience, Hammer's unwavering support, and the camaraderie among the rescue team highlight the strength found in unity and the importance of fighting against oppression, even when it means going against those you once trusted. Sweet and steamy MM fated mates shifter romance with plenty of danger, action, drama, found family, and more.

OMG, this story was so sad in parts. I totally loved it! I found myself worried, agitated, angry, frusterated, sorrowful, sad, and finally elated/joyful and content. Quite the rollercoaster of emotions for such a short book. The main characters, Hammer and Grey, met by chance in a breeding house Hammer was clearing out with his team. Grey was one of the inhabitants. Such a poignant meeting for these two! Emotions were already running high, then to come face to face with your true mate. Wow.

These two men both carried baggage and feelings of unworthiness. Neither felt right being the one to initiate anything physical or to broach uncomfortable issues. I imagined walking on proverbial eggshells while reading. I am a huge fan of Hart's, and this may be one of my very favorite of her writings. Do yourself a favor and check it out. I'm seriously hoping for a subsequent book given the epilogue from Mav's POV. I really want to read his book now! 😃

I was gifted a copy of this book and volunteered my review. I sincerely hope you enjoy it as much as I did. Happy Reading Y'all 📚

This had a lot of potential. A lot of people enjoy this author's books, so I thought I would give it a try. Unfortunately I didn't enjoy it as much as I thought I might. I really liked the premise of this, but everything was done very sporadically. They really never touched on the "why" and totally glossed over anything to do with the masterminds behind all of the breeding farms. Like, they mention the person they work for may be involved and then never follow up on that. Why? The focus is mainly on Gray and his pregnancy, plus his rushed mating to Hammer. They know almost nothing about each other still since they really haven't had any meaningful conversations on-page. It was just a bit confusing. Add to that all the overuse of commas and ending chapters on weird sentences that made no sense, this could have been done a lot better. Maybe if it were longer than 100 pages it would have had more space to make these connections to the plot? I may still read the next one if I'm feeling like it, but it won't be an auto-buy.

This was a story which started well but then left a lot of open questions like what is the shifter mafia and why do the other members have such weird names like "pop-tart" ? There was a lot of repeated dialog due to the changing POVs. This was set in the omegaverse with MPREG.

3/5. Highlights may contain spoilers. Read at your own risk.

Content Warnings for book: Slavery, forced impregnation, human trafficking, rape, birthing scenes, gun violence, murder, imprisonment

Kink: N/A

Much darker content than I expected from this pen name, but it wasn’t bad! Hart’s writing was enjoyable although it didn’t always hold the tension you’d expect from the subject matter. I think the emotional intensity could’ve been kicked up a notch, but then the book would have to be longer.

I really enjoyed Gray and Hammer’s relationship— I found them sweet, and there was a lot of hurt/comfort vibes. The side characters were interesting, and I’m curious what the next story will bring.

I’m confused why Mafia is in the series title when they’re a group of hit men, but I digress. I’m interested to see how all the alphas find their mates.

Overall, another good popcorn read!

I was intrigued by this book as it is a bit different from the normal these writers offer. It is gritty and is close to how things happen in real life these days unfortunately. But they do a good job of bringing the difficult to the pages without it being overwhelming. They introduce a couple of strong omegas in Gray and Jack when the place they are being held is infiltrated by Hammer and his team. This is a true mate story between Hammer and Gray. It shows Hammer being patient and understanding of how Gray feels and recovers while he is pregnant. Get this first in the series and find a new gritty writing style from our favorite mpreg authors.

“I would never doubt you. Only me.”

This is book one in a new series, Omegas of the Shifter Mafia, by the writing team of Lorelei M. Hart. When I saw this pop up on Booksprout I just had to get it to read and review. This author team never lets me down and I love their shifter stories.

What a perfect start to a new series. The plot was original, which I loved. When I saw the name of the series, I thought this was going to be a normal Mafia style book, but this one was not that, which made me happy.

I can't wait for Mav's book, this series is going to get better and better I can just tell. I'm hoping for each of the guy's stories.

I loved The Wolf Assassin's Mate: An M/M Mpreg Shifter Romance Book 1 of Omegas of the Shifter Mafia. Hammer’s mission was to rescue omegas who were taken and used for breeding. He wasn’t expecting to find his mate, his very pregnant mate, at their latest rescue. Gray is amazing, he has survived and Hammer will do everything possible to keep him and the baby safe. His baby, his mate. This is a sad and sweet story, sad because if the abuse bit sweet because of mates finding each other. I loved the storyline and the characters. I can’t wait for the next book in the series and I would definitely recommend this book.

A very nice start to a new and exciting series. A group of alpha assassins...different shifter breeds...LOVE IT! working against injustices...with this story it's an omega breeding ring...such tragedy. From the start you get wrapped in the story and I couldn't wait til our MCs meet each other. Eventhough there is violence and some heavy awful things that occurs throughout, there is the sweet romance building between Hammer and Gray keeps things positive and bright. Along with the group of alphas and their camaraderie and sense of justice, this was an enjoyable read. Nice ending...no cliffhanger but I can see an ongoing story with future books along with the alphas finding their omega mates.

I really enjoyed this book. Great world building and wonderful characters. I loved both Gray and Hammer. I was immediately captivated with omega Gray's introduction learning that he'd been abducted and was imprisoned in a breeding farm and currently pregnant. I liked that Hammer had a personal reason for his drive to take down all breeding dens- as his own omega father had been taken by one and was never the same again. I liked how they met in the middle of the action. The rescue was fast paced and I was glad to know that Jack didn't just disappear to leave us wondering what became of him. I liked the way Gray and Hammer's relationship developed. I loved the supporting characters. This was a great start to a new series that I'm looking forward to continuing. 5 stars.

Great start to the series

This was a great start to the series. It's a little darker and grittier than what we are used to but Lorelei M. Hart still keeps the sweetness between mates and the found family we all love. Gray and so many other omegas have been kidnapped and forced into breeding facilities. Hammer and his team of Alphas are determined to shut these facilities down. But they discover they may be working for the very man responsible for them. I can't wait to see how that story develops in the next book. I liked that Hammer and Gray knew they were mates but took some time to heal and get to know each other before they claimed each other. I'm looking forward to the other Alphas finding their mates.

For the start of a new series, this is an excellent story. It’s an emotion filled story that pulled at the heartstrings throughout, until the very end. The story is so well written that you can fill the emotions as you read the words which makes it very entertaining. On a rescue mission, Hammer finds his mate, Gray who is one of the saved omegas and who is pregnant. It’s going to be interesting what happens next and I can’t wait to read it. This is definitely a story worth reading even if there are a lot of unanswered questions at the end.

I don’t feel Assasins are who they think they are. Hammer works on the team of Protectors who rescue Omegas caught up in the omega breeding rings. He meets his pregnant mate Gray and while they instantly catch feelings, trauma recovery is never easy. Great group of fellow protectors or found family. Horrible circumstances, the missions, the victims, learning all is not what we thought is amazing. The authors created the most amazing group of characters of whom I look forward to reading their stories. As hard as the theme is, the story is an excellent read. Well done! Gray’s bear said mate when they collided but Hammer made him feel unwanted finally Hammer told him how he felt. Good book!.

An exciting start to the series!

Alpha and wolf shifter Hammer finds Gray, his fated mate and bear shifter, among the pregnant Omegas being rescued by his team! The facility and its guards kept unwilling Omegas as breeding stock so their babies could be immediately sold. See how Hammer and the very pregnant Gray handle the challenges and changes with help from Hammer’s team. Some of those changes allow Gray and Hammer to have time for those all important snuggles and steamy moments!!!

Bjo

Just about 3 stars. Maybe if I were were in a different mood I’d have rated it a bitttt higher. Most of all this was a book which had a lot of potential but just missed the pages! The plot was one I always like, the characters were interesting, the writing style was great, I just missed about 100/200 pages! I’d have loved it if we got more scenes, some more space for plot and character development. Everything was there or implied but if they had elaborated on it some more I’d have definitely bumped it to 4+ ⭐️

It is an excellent story. I loved the chemistry between the main characters. I also enjoyed the plot, although I didn't quite enjoy how the conflict unfolded.
I must admit that certain details in this book are better executed than in other books of the same theme. So, I'm not sure I'll read it again, however, I don't regret reading it in the first place.

Super cute and quick read. Omega grey has been abused and put in a mating ring. Alpha Hammer wants to right the wrongs of the world, revenge his dad and put an end to illegal mating rings. On his latest mission hammer scents his mate; his pregnant mate! I love a good fated mates story. Well written, steamy times, with a HEA for the couple but continuing story line. Looking forward to Mavs book next!.

This book is amazing! While it’s different from other books I’ve read by Lorelei but it was just as wonderful! Hammer will find his mate, Gray, when he and his team rescue omegas being held prisoner. They will find their way with each other while Gray charms the rest of Hammer’s team. It was a very sweet and wonderful tale and I can’t wait to read what comes next!.
