Anyone who knows me knows I adore shifter stories. When I realized that 'Alpha Chase' was not only about shifters, but the Alpha was a strong, female lead, I was hooked. I mean, there is something to be said for the incredibleness of women. We can be a powerful ally or a destructive enemy.

Lyssa's been hit with a pretty bad conundrum. The ruling council for the shifters has decreed she must take a mate, and produce a pup in order for her lineage to continue. Lyssa's family line has been Alpha for hundreds of years and passed it from male to male within the family. When her father died unexpectedly two years prior, the pack was in an uproar because Lyssa was his only heir. Well, she showed the pack, through a few bloody challenges, that she was Alpha and she was remaining as their leader. Hence, the conundrum. If she takes a mate, allows herself to be dominated by a male, then she loses her Alpha status. Lyssa will die before she lets that happen. So, Lyssa announces her solution to the council. She will perform the Chase on the next full moon at her estate, where any male in the pack can try to catch her and claim her. Whoever does becomes Alpha, but if no one claims her, then the council will drop their ruling of her necessity to mate. Hmm.

Brendt is Lyssa's beta and has loved her for a long time. He has offered to mate with her multiple times, but she has always refused, knowing that if she was to mate with Brendt, once a pup was born, Lyssa would have no choice but to kill him for the Alpha position back. Now, though, Brendt is terrified over the thought of her being hunted by males, and if one of them succeeds, being, essentially, raped in the dirt during the moon lust. It doesn't help, now, when Lyssa inadvertently allows Brendt to scent her desire for him. She can't help it, she's wanted him for forever, but she knows she can't have him.

The night of the full moon arrives and, much to Lyssa's shock, Brendt is one of the males who will chase to claim her. But, Brendt has a few tricks up his sleeve, an unlikely ally on the council, and he's determined to not let any other male touch his mate. Of course, the Chase is incredibly exciting with Lyssa ending up where I knew she would, which was predictable and kind of took some of the fun out of it, for me. And, no, I'm not telling you, that would spoil it!

Overall, I enjoyed this novella from an author I was unfamiliar with up to this point. I liked the fact that Lyssa was as strong as she was, but I didn't like the fact that when the chips were down, she fell back on needing her male's help. For me, that kind of detracted from the story, along with its predictability, although as a novella I expected some of that to a certain degree. However, Lyssa and Brendt are pretty smoking hot and the story was definitely entertaining and I totally recommend it.

I have to say that I really enjoyed this book and just wished that it was longer! The sex in it was sizzling and I fell into lust/love with Brendt!! (He can be my Alpha anyday!!)
Lyssa, who is Alpha of her pack; even though she is female, is approached by the senior council member and told that she must take a mate. She under no circumstance wants that so she decides to call for a "Chase". The "Chase" involves the Alpha males who would want to be Lyssa's mate and take over the pack. The alpha male who catches her and mates with her will then be in charge and then Lyssa will no longer be the alpha.
Brendt, who is Lyssa's Beta wolf (assistant/protector)has been in love with her for years. Once reality kicks in that the chase is going to happen, his instincts kick into high gear and demands that he fight for the right to be Lyssa's mate.
This story had great action scenes and was everything that I enjoy in a paranormal romance. I love it when the male becomes possessive of the woman that he is in love with, and when he needs to fight for the right to make her his. Brendt definately had to work hard for Lyssa; but it lead to explosive scenes that had me devouring the words of the page! This is a short story but I felt that it flowed nicely and didn't feel rushed or have information overload. I will be keeping my eye on any future stories from this author as I really enjoyed her style of writing and how she puts together and excellent read from start to finish.

I actually smiled pretty much all through this novel. It was great and the sexual tension was amazing, this novel was at least an 'R' rated novel, expressly for the sex scenes.
