Tuppenny Bridge #4

Coming Home to Tuppenny Bridge: An absolutely captivating and hopeful read

Rate this book
Spring has arrived in Tuppenny Bridge. Daffodils line the cobbled streets and perfume the air with the sweet smells of the season. But for Bethany Marshall, coming home unearths a past she has spent thirty years desperately trying to forget…

When Bethany learns that her estranged brother, Joseph, has died, she’s devastated. Returning home to Tuppenny Bridge is the last thing she wants to do, but she has no choice.

Making her way over the River Skimmer, rain coats the windscreen as she looks out at landscapes she hasn’t seen for over three decades. Happier times flash through her mind – birthday laughter, glimmering Christmas lights and her precious big brother, before he broke her heart. And now, with him gone, so is any hope of an apology…

To Bethany’s dismay, her childhood home, Whispering Willows, has been converted into a horse sanctuary and the house, as well as the animals, are now in her care.

Bethany has one goal in sight – sell the property before the past catches up with her. It’s not going to be the house has been neglected, the stables are falling apart and then there’s Clive Browning, her brother’s best friend. His presence, at first unwanted, begins to stir up emotions in Bethany that she’s never felt before.

But just when Bethany starts to accept that there may be hope for a new beginning in Tuppenny Bridge, a shattering revelation comes to light, making Bethany question all she thought was true…

A beautifully emotional story set in the gorgeous Yorkshire Dales, where the tender shoots of love, hope and forgiveness are beginning to burst into life. Fans of Heidi Swain, Cathy Bramley and Milly Johnson will adore this.

This is a great story that will make you smile and perhaps shed a tear. It’s set in the gorgeous community of Yorkshire Dales, and there are animals and they are the glue that brings folks in and keeps them there. Torment abounds, mostly in
decades long closely held secrets, but all secrets must eventually show
themselves. My thanks to Storm Publishing via Net Galley for the download

Get your tissues ready for Coming Home to Tuppenny Bridge by Sharon Booth. What was so bad that Bethany Marshall would leave her home for over 30 years, cutting all connection with her only living relative, her brother Joseph.? And what would bring her back to Tuppenny Bridge?

There were so many twists in this content rich plot. I connected with Bethany from page one and felt her pain throughout the book. I rejoiced with her when good things happened and cried when she felt pain.

Releases July 8th. I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

Coming Home to Tuppenny Bridge by Sharon Booth certainly had a hold on my heart from start to finish. I basically read it throughout the day. I was so caught up in the lives of Bethany Marshal, Clive Browning and the animals in the shelter I did not want to stop. To say I felt a lot of emotions is an understatement. My pulse quickened, my throat tightened and tears were often welling up in my eyes. I truly became invested in the hearts and events of the characters and felt I knew them like friends when I turned the last page. This novel covers numerous heavy emotional topics such as abuse, suicide, emotional control, friend and spouse betrayal, animal cruelty, etc. and Ms Booth certainly delivered them respectfully but truthfully on all counts.

Bethany has been contacted by a friend of her estranged brother Joseph and told he has just died. She is devastated even though she has not seen or been in contact with him for many years. She left their home deeply wounded by an event that involved Joseph. Betrayal hit her heart fiercely and anger became the fuel that led to her escape. Feeling abandoned by her mother who died when she was young, betrayed by her brother she adored and trusted, and frightened by her bully father whose meanness spilled over to the animals she loves, she has no choice but to get away from Whispering Willows for the sake of her sanity. But with all the trauma baggage she carries, starting a new life is not easy and future relationships never seem to quite pan out.

Returning to Tuppenny Bridge (to attend Joseph’s funeral and look after his affairs) is the last thing she wants to do. Even though Whispering Willows belongs to her, she wants to sell it as quickly as possible to distance herself from the pain she has known there.

Bethany’s past relationship with her brother is heavily explored. Growing up she adored her much older brother who often defended and cared for her during some trying times. But something terrible happens that changes her feelings towards him that drives her far away. As a result, her prompt departure and harsh attitude to never look back or contact him again is something she will have to live with— now that he is gone. For she will never be able to make amends. But once she arrives and begins to learn what her brother has been doing all these years—she comes to appreciate his kind heart and mission in homing abandoned and abused animals.

So her return home becomes an opportunity for much-needed restoration. As Bethany spends time at Whispering Willows and encounters a network of people who have been helping with the animals, her heart begins to soften to the issues they are facing. This part of the story really clutched at my heart. One of the people who play a major role in the shelter is Joseph’s friend, a loving vet named Clive. I really liked him, his gentleness and caring attitude. He is the very opposite of many who have played a part in Bethany’s life. Where they were manipulative and selfish, he is free spirited and supportive. A relationship grows between them. And a transformation begins. As truth is exposed, everything turns around.

This is a wonderfully written and moving story. We get to see some familiar faces from the previous books in the series and it was lovely to follow their new developments. I appreciated Bethany’s difficult journey and was both sad and happy with the things that transpired. This story shows the consequences and dangers of interfering in others’ lives. And the destruction of anger. Life is too short to hold on to hurts. But there are some happy moments at the end and a huge revelation time for Bethany that brings healing. Everything comes together in a fresh new way. Plus love is on the horizon as she finds her home in Tuppenny Bridge. 5 Heart-Filled Stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

"Coming Home to Tuppenny Bridge" by Sharon Booth is a heartwarming and deeply emotional journey set in the picturesque Yorkshire Dales. From the moment Bethany Marshall reluctantly returns to her childhood home, Whispering Willows, readers are drawn into a story rich with nostalgia, unresolved family tension, and the possibility of new beginnings.

The novel begins with Bethany's return to Tuppenny Bridge following the death of her estranged brother, Joseph. Booth paints a vivid picture of the town awakening to spring, with daffodils lining cobbled streets and the sweet perfume of the season in the air. This beautiful setting starkly contrasts Bethany's turbulent emotions as she grapples with her past and the memories of happier times now tainted by her brother’s absence.

Bethany’s initial goal is straightforward: sell the property and leave the past behind. However, the discovery that Whispering Willows has been transformed into a horse sanctuary complicates her plans. The neglected state of the house and stables symbolizes the neglected relationships in Bethany’s life, and the presence of Clive Browning, her brother's best friend, adds another layer of complexity. Clive’s support and the emotions he stirs within Bethany challenge her resolve and hint at the possibility of healing and love.

Booth excels in creating a cast of characters that feel real and relatable. Bethany's journey is one of personal growth and forgiveness, and readers will find themselves rooting for her as she navigates the revelations and challenges that arise. The shattering revelation that makes Bethany question everything she thought she knew adds a compelling twist, keeping readers engaged until the very end.

Fans of Heidi Swain, Cathy Bramley, and Milly Johnson will find much to love in "Coming Home to Tuppenny Bridge." Booth’s storytelling is imbued with warmth, humor, and poignant moments that highlight the importance of family, community, and second chances. The depiction of village life is so vivid that readers will feel as if they are walking the streets of Tuppenny Bridge themselves, immersing in its charm and the lives of its residents.

The novel is a beautifully crafted tale of love, hope, and forgiveness, perfectly suited for those seeking a cozy, feel-good read. It captures the essence of finding home in unexpected places and the enduring power of reconciling with the past to embrace the future.

In summary, "Coming Home to Tuppenny Bridge" is a gorgeously written, emotionally resonant story that will leave readers smiling, shedding a tear, and ultimately feeling uplifted. Sharon Booth has created a gem of a book that celebrates the tender shoots of new beginnings amidst the rich tapestry of village life. This is a must-read for anyone who enjoys heartwarming stories with a touch of romance and plenty of emotional depth.

Poignant story of learning from loss & missed chances🏘

4.5🌟 stars
I found Sharon Booth's latest addition to her Tuppenny Bridge series a really good yarn, incorporating romance, a bit of mystery, a lively ensemble of village characters and a moving story of a brother and sister who never got the chance to reconcile with a surprising twist. There's always something happening in this village, the pace is good and I definitely felt an emotional connection to the lead characters.

Coming home to her hometown is not anything like she expected when female lead fifty-something Bethany shows up in Tuppenny Bridge on the day of her older brother Joseph's funeral. A quick visit to sell the family property is what she wanted but the village and its residents take her in, the mystery of her brother's behavior and commitment to a horse sanctuary intrigues her, and she finds romance and friendship despite the bad memories from her childhood.

I liked Bethany more as the story unfolded and she opened herself to the community. Clive, the local vet who was her brother's best friend and support, is a very sympathetic male lead, especially in the way he avoids trying to impose his own ideas and desires so Bethany will be free to decide for herself. There's a bit of a rethink about her life and relationships towards the book's end that surprised me but made a lot of sense.

Bethany's ruined relationship with the brother she loved is a central element and the reason Bethany left the homestead and lost contact is slowly revealed. Their blighted relationship was one of the sadder parts of the plot.

If you've read the earlier books in the series, you'll appreciate the updates and reappearance of principal characters from those stories. But this one could be read as a standalone and there's no cliffhanger in sight!

Thanks to Storm Publishing and NetGalley for sharing a complimentary advance copy of the book; this is my voluntary and honest opinion.

This is quite a complex, emotional, story but it beautifully told.
Bethany Marshal approached the pretty Yorkshire village of Tupenny Bridge with dread in her heart, it had been many years since she had walked out leaving the animals that she loved behind. Bethany had good memories of her childhood at Whispering Willows with the mother that she loved and her older brother, Joseph, who she adored but her mother had died and Joseph had betrayed her, the hurt and anger had built up over many years and now it was deep seated.
Joseph had died and Bethany was back to sell Whispering Willows, the house that she grew up in, the house that she owned, the house that she now hated. Bethany just wanted to sell up quickly and return to Devon but that wasn't going to be as easy as she thought, the house was in a bad state of repair and Joseph had turned it into a horse sanctuary with many resident horses, ponies and not forgetting a cute little dog.
Vet Clive Browning had been Joseph's best friend and he was looking after the animals until Bethany arrived, he, and his two young assistants were distraught to find that Bethany was selling up and all the animals were to be rehomed.
Rehoming rescue animals was not an easy task, Bethany and Clive became closer as Bethany pondered her choices, but both of them had complicated pasts.
This story made me laugh, it made me cry, and it frustrated me, the author has covered many emotive subjects with sensitivity but still managed to bring the story to a lovely emotional end.
Thank you Storm Publishing and Net Gallery for my ARC, my review is completely voluntary.

Bethany Marshall is finally back in her hometown of Tuppenny Bridge after three decades of being gone. Her estranged brother, Joseph has passed away. She’s bitter, upset and not happy to be back. She sees how her childhood home, Whispering Willows has been neglected. It also has be turned into a horse sanctuary. Why hasn’t her brother taken care of the place? She can’t ask all those questions now that he’s gone. Memories of the past resurfaces. Can she walk away from the place? Can she sell it without worrying about the animals and volunteers? She meets Clive Browning, her brother best friend and they get off to a bad start. He doesn’t know the whole story. He took care of her brother until he died. He’s a veterinarian who volunteers with the care of the horses. As they spend time together, their feelings come to surface. Will she ignore those feelings? Does Clive feel the same way? She’s never had feelings like this before. So this is what love feels like. She never felt like this with her ex husband. Lots of emotions and guilt in this story. Can the characters let the past go to move forward with their future? Bethany learns a lot of secrets that were being kept from her. Can she forgive her best friend and ex husband for what they did? The characters are wonderful but need to figure out what they both want from each other and for themselves. Worth the read. Hard to put down. First book I’ve read by Sharon Booth and won’t be the last. I received this book for my honest review. I give it voluntarily.

As spring arrives in Tuppenny Bridge, daffodils line the cobbled streets. Bethany Marshall returns home after thirty years when her estranged brother Joseph dies, stirring up memories of happier times and heartache.

Whispering Willows, which is Bethany’s childhood home, is now a neglected horse refuge, and Bethany plans to sell it as fast as she can. As she begins organising to sell, she starts spending time with Clive Browning, her brothers best friend - old and new feelings start to swirl.
Just when she starts to see hope for a new beginning, a shocking revelation shakes her world. Set in the beautiful Yorkshire Dales, this emotional story is about love, hope, and forgiveness. Fans of Heidi Swain, Cathy Bramley, and Milly Johnson will adore it.

This is the fourth book in the series but can be read as a standalone. I recommend starting from the beginning for maximum enjoyment. This series first introduced me to this author.

This installment is both heartbreaking and heartwarming, introducing new characters while reconnecting with old ones. Returning to Tuppenny Bridge feels like coming home to a beloved village with a lovely community spirit.

I hope this isn’t the last book in the series, as I'd love to see how the characters' lives continue to progress.

In the latest Tuppenny Bridge novel, Bethany and readers return to Tuppenny Bridge when it is the last thing that Bethany wants. With her estranged brother Joseph’s death, Bethany is reminded of happier -- and unhappier -- times from her childhood in Tuppenny Bridge, but ultimately the unhappy times win out and she decides to sell their childhood home (now a horse sanctuary) and the animals on the property. Those who have been working at the sanctuary, Summer and Joseph’s best friend Clive, cannot understand her reasons and stir up new emotions in Bethany, perhaps resulting in a new beginning for her in Tuppenny Bridge, until a secret revelation makes her question everything. A story of trauma, healing, and dealing with the ghosts of one’s past, this book has some serious and heavy emotions entwined with the narrative. Bethany, not a perfect protagonist by any means, is relatable and sympathetic with a traumatic past (trigger warnings for animal, emotional, and domestic/child abuse for those who need it). A complicated and incredibly emotional novel, this is an excellent continuation of the Tuppenny Bridge series, and the new and old characters in this book are complex, dynamic, and relatable, continuing to grow and change from previous books in the series.

Thank you for the chance to read this ARC in return for my honest opinion. I have read other books in the series and many others in between and I did struggle a little to remember the back stories around some of the characters. But this didn’t detract from the enjoyment of this book which could be read as a stand-alone book. This centres around Bethany, whose brother, Joseph has featured before. She returns to her childhood home to memories that she would have preferred to have forgotten. She finds that it’s been turned into an equine sanctuary by her brother which she didn’t expect. Bethany did annoy me at times - I did tell her off in my head several times. She didn’t seem to know what she wanted or where she wanted to settle. She had relied greatly on her friend Helena who it transpired and not only stolen her husband but also, both of them, impacted the focus of her life. The betrayal was unexpected. The other character I found hard to become endeared to was Summer. Would she have behaved in that way towards the person who was in effect her employer? It was well written and an enjoyable read. Very suited to taking on holiday and reading on the beach

I love this series about the Whispering Willows sanctuary, and the employees and families behind it, and around the area of Tuppenny Bridge.

Bethany is looking for a place to settle. After she finds out about the death of her estranged brother, Joseph, and goes back to her childhood home (as we discover) to sort out the house and possessions (as she thinks).

There is so much more to the story, she discovers that there is also an animal sanctuary attached to her old home, and that along with her home, she has to deal with the associated animals, and deal with the complicated relationships attached to this - whether to sell her home and get rid of the animals, or stay, She has so many decisions to make, and a lot of history to deal with - together with moving back to her childhood home, and the relationship history in the town that she needs to process.

The ending made me gasp!

Must-read if you've read the other books, to see the next step with Joseph's family, friends and animals.

Bethany returned to Tuppenny Bridge after hearing that her estranged brother had passed away, bringing back many unhappy memories. She is shocked to find that her childhood home has been turned into a horse sanctuary, preventing her from immediately selling it as she had planned.
This is one of those books that I became emotionally involved in, really feeling for Bethany as she is forced to relive the situations that forced her to move away decades before. She is also a loner who has never settled down in one place since a failed marriage and finds the return to her home town a struggle. There is a positive side with the new friendships that she makes and the older ones that are revived. I really loved this book, as I'm sure many readers will, especially if they have read the previous books in this series, but be prepared for the occasional tear in the eye.
I received an advance copy of this book from the publisher through Netgalley, however this did not influence my review of the book.

Bethany Marshall escaped her home 30 years ago. She only returns to Whispering Willows in Tuppenny Bridge because her estranged brother has died. Now, she is put in charge of an animal sanctuary. She doesn't want the property, though. Yet if she doesn't keep it, her new friends - the veterinarian Clive and other sanctuary staff - will lose their jobs. Can Bethany navigate her complicated feelings about the past and present? Or will she leave behind her one chance at true love?
This novel is a cozy romance. I figured out the ending pretty quickly. But it does have a few surprising twists that kept my attention.
I didn't realize it's the fourth installment in the series until I came to write this review. The author does a good job of including enough backstory so readers don't feel like they're missing important details.
I appreciate the healing journey Bethany undertakes. It gives me hope for restored relationships.

Coming Home to Tuppenny Bridge is a lovely (could be stand alone) book, full of heart and community.
Like the other Tuppenny Bridge books, it isn't cutie or kitsch with everyone magically getting their happily ever after. These stories deal with real emotions and have realistic characters with, sometimes, devastating flaws. It's one of the more realistic fiction stories I have read when it comes to the mistakes people can make and secrets they hide.
Sharon Booth has such a flow to her writing and whether you know the characters of old or are reading about them afresh, they really come to life and hook you in immediately.
This story of Bethany, Joseph and Clive really brought out the emotion. From sorrow to happiness to furiously angry to content, as any good writing does.
My thanks to Netgalley and the author and publisher for a temporary copy to read. All opinions are my own.

This is the 4th book in this series but could be read as a standalone although I recommend reading from the beginning for maximum enjoyment. This was the series that first introduced me to this author.

This was a heartbreaking yet heart warming at the same time poignant instalment where we got introduced to new characters as well as reconnected with old ones as we return to Tuppenny Bridge which like the title of the book makes the reader also feel like they are coming home when they arrive in this beautiful and much loved village with such a lovely community feel.

I really hope we are going to see more in this series and that this won’t be the last book so we can see how the characters lives continue to progress

Coming Home to Tuppenny Bridge is the 4th book in a series. Although I didn't read the other 3 books, I did find this book entertaining.

The main character, Bethany learns her estranged brother has died she is devastate. Returning to her home town is the last thing she wants to do but she has no choice. It is a beautiful yet emotional story telling about the struggles Bethany goes through dealing with the past and the present. I feel even if you've not read the other books in the series you will love this book. I highly recommend it.

Another good book in the Tuppenny Bridge series, this time Clive and Bethany, Joseph's long lost sister are the main characters. I enjoyed this book, though fairly predictable, it is interesting and the relationships and friendships are well described. It is a part of a series, but is ok if you haven't read others ,though it gives you more insight into the town and the people living there if you have. Ups and downs as people jump to conclusions about the intentions of others, but that is fairly usual in these sorts of books. Quite tragic that Bethany and Joseph had not seen each other for so long, but I suppose there is some sort of resolution .
Thanks to Net Galley for the ARC, an interesting and entertaining read

Great summer read!

While the overall storyline was on the predictable side, I kind of expected that going in. What made this so enjoyable was the way in which Sharon Booth draws you into the scenery and lives of the characters. There were definitely some surprises, and some pretty sad and angering sections. But overall, it was a very sweet story and quite likable. Bethany returns home after the untimely death of her brother, to find that her childhood home is dilapidated, and a horse sanctuary! This was my first from this author, though this is the fourth book in the series.

It’s a pleasure to be back in Tuppenny Bridge. Bethany’s brother Joseph has passed away and on returning to Tuppenny Bridge she finds her childhood home is now a horse sanctuary. Clive the local vet was a friend of Joseph’s and has been helping to keep the sanctuary running, Bethany and Clive get off on the wrong foot and as the story unfolds we learn the reasons why Bethany cut her brother out of her life. This book was sad and emotional in parts but also there were some funny, lighter moments especially involving the Pennyfeather sisters and all those gorgeous animals. Filled with wonderful colourful characters, community, secrets, second chances and romance.

Trust should not be easily granted as people can be deceived and trusting too much can be the worst mistake of them all. Bethany had a troubled childhood and was terribly hurt by her family, fleeing home seemed to be the only way out. After her brother dies and she has to return to her childhood home she discovers true love and also the truth that remained in her past. Coming Home to Tuppenny Bridge has a good plot, is well-written and touching. Great read!
I thank the author, her publisher, and NetGalley for this ARC.

I had a bit of a hard time finishing this book, unfortunately, I paused reading and had to come back to it later on several times as the story's pacing was a bit too slow for my taste, making it difficult to stay fully engaged. That being said, the story is actually beautiful and explores themes of loss, forgiveness, and new beginnings in a very heartfelt way. The plot unfolds gradually, with a lot of focus on introspection and small-town life, which may appeal to some readers but left me wishing for a bit more momentum in the storyline.

When a sudden call to tell her Joseph her brother has past away she has to return home to Tuppenny Bridge in the Yorkshire Dales, it's been thirty years to long, she is not coming home for good and she has no plans to stay long.

Bethany has arrived back in her childhood town as her brother has just died. She’s back to sell her brother’s house, but has just found out it’s been turned into a sanctuary for donkeys and ponies. Clive has been looking after the animals since her brother’s passing. She’s not happy and can’t wait to sell the place.

A lovely read about families, old and new friendships and a sprinkle of romance.
A perfect 4 star read.

Coming Home to Tuppenny Bridge was a great read. It's about a woman who's brother passes away and she has to go back to her childhood home. Once she gets there she learns a lot of information about current and past circumstances. This is just a cute story that will get you in your feels, and the twists keep your attention. I think this book is worth the read! My only question is if there will be a book 2?

This was a nice, heartwarming read. Bethany, estranged from her family, and having never settled anywhere arrives back to Tuppenny Bridge for her brother's funeral.
When she returns to her childhood home, she is surprised at the changes made. Bethany has a lot of decisions to make, and what does her future hold when she puts the ghosts of her past to rest?

What a good book! The story grabs you from page one and never really lets go! I didn’t realize it was part of a series, it can be read as a stand alone. I really liked all the characters in the book. I like the thought of the rescue and equine center. It’s full of emotions and sadness with the promise of joy to come.

read 4 books in 24 hours heart warming

All the books bring the others into the stories although each a heartwarming story in its own right, this one especially made my heart ache to think of lost chances and misunderstandings , to go 30 years thinking their sibling didn’t care because of someone hiding the letters so sad but definitely worth the read
