O'Hares Ranch

Rate this book
Life was simply life before I emailed a cowboy named Andrew Dawson.

Since graduating college, I’d fallen into a cycle I was so stuck in, I didn’t realize I was in it. Work eight hours, have a glass of wine, and fall asleep to reality TV. I just rinsed and repeated every single day.

But then the case of the strawberry cow happened.

What started as a simple mission to educate my students, turned into the world’s longest game of cat and mouse.

For five years, the ranch owner and I have been unable to do anything about the growing attraction that bloomed between us on my first trip, a reason or two always keeping us at bay. But for every one of those years I went to his ranch, I discovered more about the life I’d been missing. Realized what it was to find home.

I was happy again. Alive. There was only one thing I still didn’t have.

Luckily, it seems as though this Easter, I may finally get it.

But only if I can find the golden egg before he catches me.

Hey there! My name is Lee. I like to think of myself as a bibliophile who belongs to the Ravenclaw house.
I write romances that can sometimes be sweet and spicy or deadly and kinky. I'm a firm believer in happily ever afters and men who always make sure their woman is satisfied first.
When I'm not writing, I'm drowning myself in a good book, losing track of time on the Nintendo Switch with my kids, and laughing or yelling at one of my husbands practical jokes. (He likes to leave fake spiders and roaches around.)
Also, something important to note. I live off Chai and Dean Winchester.

“Oh wow.” She sighs, and it’s dreamy and full of contentment, making my chest tighten. “It’s beautiful.”
I nod, my eyes never leaving her face. “It’s a masterpiece.”

This trope never gets old 🤌🏻🦋💘😭

Quick read with a school teacher h and a rancher H, both likable. I loved that the h initially arranges to visit the H's ranch with her class to pettily show up one of her five year old students, who's undermining her authority over strawberry milk. The H came across as kind but with a confidence and BDE I was digging. The chemistry was definitely present from their first meeting and I liked that they did seem to fit each other well personality-wise too.

I struggled with the time gaps in this read though, they were unnecessary imo and if the main characters were serious about pursuing each other, the H and h easily could have reached out to the other outside of connecting on her class visits to his ranch. This made it feel less like right person, wrong time and more that neither was willing to put in the little bit of extra effort. When they do finally get to the right moment, it then felt like insta-love since both suddenly want forever despite minimal interactions over the years. I don't want this to be a negative review, but I also felt like the shibari elements were glossed over. Rope and bondage are definitely incorporated, but some of the beauty of shibari with the intricate knots and how long it takes to set the scene didn't feel as present for me.

I did love the epilogue and the story ended on such an excellent note with them down the road a few years, happily married with one kid and another on the way. I don't know if I need to pause this series for a while since as it's gone on, I've tended to nitpick what didn't work for me more than gush about what does in these books. I do appreciate though that the heart of this series has stayed the same with the different holidays, the variety of kinks, and the novella format.

Written in first person, dual POV. No ow drama, small om moment when an om hits on the h later in the book and the H shuts it down hard, and neither are virgins (when h first meets H, she's in a relationship; no mention of H over the years but then later it's mentioned that it had been a long time for the h).

Miss Cassidy got a thing for the owner of the ranch where she books an annual field trip with her preschool class. The timing is always wrong but finally, after 5 years they put an end to this game of cat and mouse, or more accordingly, of rigger and bunny. (hehe)

This was a cute short read and perfect for a cowboy romance era ✨
Istg this could have been a full length romance and I'd eat it up in 2 days top.

Since this is fiction and a novella, I'm gonna believe that this is the case of the right person at the wrong time.

Andrew and Harper met through her class visit to his ranch. They only emailed and met once a year, and this has been going on for the last five years.

After five years and school's break, Harper decided to go to the ranch and help her friend. Andrew thought this was the right time to finally make her his.

Anyway, it's ridiculous if you're going to think hard about it. They only interact once a year, and yet, for some reason, they feel things for one another that they never had before. Then, after their missed chances for half a decade, they're more than ready to officially give them a chance. 🤷‍♀️

Overall, it was okay and a very quick read.  But I wasn't invested in it and the time jumps were too much. 🥲

Book info:
- Novella
- Righ person, wrong time
- Time jumps (5 years)
- Cowboy x City girl
- No cheating, owd, separation
- No Vs (no idea what they've been doing the last five years)
- OMD (she had a bf the first time they met, and another om danced with her)
- Bondage
- HEA (5 yrs later, married with a daughter and a son otw)

Actually it was really good but extremely short to have a higher rating , I wouldn’t mind if this was a full length novel there was a good potential to be one. But I appreciate it for being enjoyable because i am in the worst reading slump in my life. Tie me up cowboy.

Can I get a YEEEEEHAWWWWW for this cowboy romance!!!??? Let’s hear it for a dirty talkin, boot scootin hunk of a cowboy who calls his girl all kinds of cute nicknames!!

I see you, Lee. My lil Texas girlie bringing that cowboy vision to life. My word, this one was so fun to read! and I have to admit I would’ve never before said there’s such a thing as a hot Easter egg hunt…but here we are, AND IM SAYING IT.

I loved the start of the story and then how it builds up to the present day. Whew. The slow burn was BURNING. The tension was building, and the flow of the story was done so well. Lee Jacquot is such a rockstar at writing novellas. This one did seem a bit more rushed in comparison to her others but it still was fun to read!

THE BARN SCENE WAS NEXT LEVEL. You can officially call me a rope bunny bc I’m hopin on over to read every book that has rope play 😚😚

✏️Review:
O'Hares Ranch by Lee Jacquot is a nice foray into contemporary western for her, aided immensely by her classic brand of spicy spice. In truth, most of my 3.5 stars are for the spice and the chemistry between the FMC Harper and MMC Andrew, when they FINALLY got together. It took them FIVE WHOLE YEARS. And honestly, aside from the first time they met when Harper had a boyfriend already, I really cannot see why in the 4+ years after they couldn’t find a time to make it work, if they were that attracted and intrigued by each other. So this definitely, for me, would’ve worked better with a lower page count and a tighter narrative timeline.

But like I said, I’ll take my whiskey neat, and by that, I mean I’ll take my cowboys with rope bondage. Always 😉

Cowboy/City Girl / Possessive MMC / Rope Play / HEA

Harper Cassidy is a preschool teacher that wants to show one of her students that strawberry milk does not come from pink cows. She arranges a field trip to a local ranch where she meets Andrew Dawson. They have an instant connection but don’t act on it as she’s in a relationship. The next year she returns and the attraction is still there but she tells Andrew she’s just come out of a relationship and needs time. Three more years pass and he’s done waiting … but so is she. I really enjoyed their play time and wasn’t expecting the rope element, but it was hot and steamy for sure. For a novella the story built up quickly but not rushed and I enjoyed the read.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5/5 🌶🌶🌶/5

TW - cheating (sc on the FMC), heart attack (parent, mentioned)
CW - bondage, edging

Tropes - Easter novella, cowboy romance, cowboy x teacher, jealousy, possessive, Easter egg hunt, slow burn, novella, rigger x rope bunny

This was fun! I really liked how Cassidy (FMC) and Andrew (MMC) met. Cassidy is a Pre K teacher who wants to take her class to the ranch to prove to one of the children that pink cows don't make strawberry milk and tbh - fair enough. The MCs trade emails over the next 5 years with Cassidy bringing different classes to the ranch but timing is just not on their side from being in a relationship, to family emergencies, Cassidy and Andrew can't get their moment... until they do 😉😉

I have enjoyed all the holinight novellas so far - there is literally something for everyone; I'm not ready to say goodbye just yet

Scale:
⭐️ - would've DNF'ed / continued out of spite
⭐️⭐️ - shit, but whatever
⭐️⭐️⭐️ - meh, could've been better
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ - lit 👅
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ - loved it, inject this shit into my veins 🤪

🫑 - no smut
🌶 - no point
🌶🌶 - mediocre at best
🌶🌶🌶 - standard smut, hot
🌶🌶🌶🌶 - 🥵 okay, some CW
🌶🌶🌶🌶🌶 - fuck me 🥵🥵 CWs / filthy with a side of filth - see Poison / Room Twenty-Two: Hide and Seek/ The Naughty List

I’m a big fan of Lee’s Hollinight novellas and this one was no exception! I do wish there was more tension to go with the slow burn! That’s my only complaint! (That and I wish the safe word wasn’t so cheesy 😂)

I really liked Andrew and Harper’s story! 5 years worth of wanting that is bound to explode at some point and when better than on the dance floor 🤭

The rope scene 🥵🫠
His reasoning for buying her the boots (specifically reason 2!) 😉

Favorite moments:
“I want you. Now, tomorrow, next year. As long as you’ll have me.”

“And what is it you need, city girl?” “You, cowboy.”

“My greedy lil’ city girl. You think I’m going to let that rope soak up your cum? That belongs to me.”

We already know Lee Jacquot has my heart.

Her novella series is my passion. It is the air that I breathe😂

This one was again a masterpiece.

Andrew Dawson is a ranch owner, and Harper Cassidy is teacher who has been bringing her class to Andrew’s ranch for years on field trips..

There is this tension between them but their stars just never aligned. That is until she’s helping out on his ranch when it’s hosting an Easter Egg hunt for some kids.

They’ve got five years of tension that’s ready to be unleashed.. or tied down.. 🥵

✨Right Person Wrong Time
✨Real life Hoedown
✨I’ll give you a head start😉
✨I finally have you and you’re MINE

*These are not the official tropes.. but they are official to me.
