This book is incredibly insightful and I can tell that the author holds an amazing amount of emotional intelligence and knowledge of the human brain and emotional nervous system!
He speaks about the human brain and how we comprehend things with elegance and gentleness. He talks in detail about how to improve your mindset and gives a plethora of very helpful and effective self-help exercises that I found thoughtful and really added to the empathetic aspect of the novel. The first half of the book focused on taking action on improving your life through your mind and offered solutions to a disregulated lifestyle, and the second half focuses more on the theory of it all. Overall I thought that the book was very helpful and informative about something that is so important to everybody. It was uplifting and inspiring and I really appreciated the methods of improvement that the book offered. :)

Sometimes we wonder how we survive here on this earth. There is no guide or any books to tell us how we live here
There are laws but personally how to use our brains full potential is still a mystery.
But this book tells you step by step how to do that. I am sure there is no on and off switch
But systematic approach and decipline to follow what's written here will take us to great heights.

I actually recommend the audiobook I tried reading it but it was really dry in my opinion, as an audiobook it’s great. You learned a lot about how my mind works!

This was a challenging read in some ways, but rewarding, and very interesting. The human mind is complex and fascinating, and I think that a book like this helps us to appreciate that, embrace it, and realise what we are potentially capable of, if we try to get into a different mindset. I would be interested to try some of the exercises in this book myself, and I think it could be useful to anyone and everyone.

Goodfinding: A User's Guide to EQ and Your Brilliant Mind by William G. DeFoore, Ph.D., is a thoughtful exploration of emotional intelligence and the potential of the human mind. The book delves into various aspects of self-awareness, personal growth, and interpersonal relationships, offering practical advice and exercises to help readers harness their inner strengths. DeFoore emphasizes the importance of gratitude, appreciation, and optimism, advocating for a positive psychology approach to derive value from all life experiences.

The book is divided into two main parts. The first half focuses on actionable steps to improve one's mindset and lifestyle, providing readers with tools to cultivate a balanced and fulfilling life. The second half delves into the theoretical underpinnings of these practices, offering a deeper understanding of how the mind and emotions interact. DeFoore's extensive experience as a mental health counselor shines through, making the content both credible and relatable.

One of the book's major strengths is its emphasis on empathy and understanding. DeFoore encourages readers to see the inherent goodness in themselves and others, fostering compassion and positive interactions. The practical exercises, such as mental scanning for self-appreciation and techniques for reflecting on past experiences, are valuable tools for enhancing self-awareness and emotional well-being. These exercises are presented in a straightforward manner, making them accessible and easy to implement in daily life.

However, the book occasionally oversimplifies the complexities of human behavior. While it promotes a dichotomous view of individuals being inherently good or having strayed from their original nature, it may not fully account for the multifaceted influences on behavior, such as social, cultural, and psychological factors. Additionally, the strong focus on self-improvement and individual responsibility might seem overly individualistic, potentially neglecting the broader social and environmental contexts that shape our experiences and well-being.

Despite these minor shortcomings, Goodfinding is an uplifting and inspiring read. DeFoore's gentle and elegant writing style makes complex concepts easy to grasp, and his insights into emotional intelligence are both profound and practical. The book offers a comprehensive guide for anyone looking to enhance their emotional well-being and harness the power of their brilliant mind.

In conclusion, Goodfinding is a valuable resource for personal growth and self-awareness. It encourages readers to adopt a positive outlook on life, emphasizing the importance of empathy and gratitude. While it could benefit from a more nuanced approach to the complexities of human behavior, it remains a highly recommended read for those seeking to improve their emotional intelligence and overall quality of life.

I just finished listening to the audiobook Goodfinding: A User's Guide to EQ and Your Brilliant Mind and I highly recommend it! The book not only details what emotional intelligence is and how a high EQ can help you in life but also offers many practical exercises to develop your EQ. Lots of journaling prompts, meditations, and mental activities like that. I actually started the journaling and I already find myself with more energy and a brighter outlook, which helps me cope with difficulties that present themselves. I’ve done many days of journaling based on gratitude prompts. I’m doing this with my partner and we share our journals and it make us appreciate each other more.

Another thing I like about this book is that it provides tons of references if you want to learn more about a different topic. Some of the references are books, some are research articles and some are from the author’s website. These references expand and support what the book says.

Also, it is narrated very well. You’ll enjoy listening to it. I got the audiobook because I have a big pile of unread books, but I listen to audiobooks all the time. I’m considering getting the book, though, so I can use it as a reference.

I received this audiobook in exchange for an unbiased review.

The book starts off interestingly. I love how the focus is on the primitive and secondary need and how it stops us from achieving our full potential if we don't actually work our brain. The first part is just how a good guide book should be, it has a good amount of background info and also stepwise instructions to put things into practice. There were small boxes on the side to highlight the exercises mentioned.
But 2nd part onwards the things got more theory and less about doing. There is a lot of info dump and also very generic info and not anything very new or out of the box.
I would have also loved to get an index at the end with a summarised list of activities to do.

Goodfinding a compelling self help book. And is structured around 10basic principles like gratitude, forgiveness, compassion etc. What I particularly appreciated about this book is its emphasis on the power of positive thinking and the impact that our thoughts and emotions can have on our overall well-being. The author provides numerous examples of how positive thinking can lead to greater happiness.
