Can you whisper?
Something I never thought I’d ask the guy who is exactly my type
but completely wrong for me.
Someone I sneak secret glances at from a distance while vowing to never get too close.
And then I get tossed in jail. With him.
Know how forced proximity and extreme panic go together?
They don’t. And the walls I spent a lifetime erecting around me crack,
giving him an intimate view of all the secrets I work so hard to protect.
Color me surprised when the pierced, tattooed DJ doesn’t recoil or call me a freak.
Arsen gets me through the night, his attention like a match to my insides,
lighting me on fire and making me burn.
Keeping my distance is impossible.
My body begs to be near him, but we just don’t mix.
He’s fire. I’m water.
Sound is his superpower but my kryptonite.
For once in my life, my heart is louder than my head, and I can’t stay away.
But it seems following my heart leads me straight into trouble.
Turns out I’m not the only one who thinks maybe Arsen and I don’t belong together,
and the people who agree will go to extremes to make sure we stay apart.

“Are you laughing?” I asked, going for incredulously offended but knowing it was probably coming off as moronically endeared.
Because I was–utterly besotted with his smile. It felt like a victory after a long battle.
His lips covered his teeth, but then they flashed again. “No.”
Unable to keep my hands to myself, I stroked the side of my finger along his cheek. The hint of smile left on his face was replaced instantly with caution.
“That’s some smile you got there, Matthew. Fucking beautiful.”

Cambria Hebert never disappoints when it comes to obsessed/possessive men and jealousy scenes that have me giggling. 😩 Arsen and Prism honestly had me swooning throughout the book with their interactions. i usually prefer slow burn, but i can make exceptions where the mcs kinda fall quick if i loved their dynamic and this was the case here. Arsen with his smooth ass lines had me gasping at times bc that man had perfect timing. 😭 i also loved how he was ALL IN when it came to Prism and never looked back… the way he understood Prism. <3 it was heartbreaking at times being inside Prism’s mind, but he was relatable and i just adored him and wanted to hug him. 🥺 i can see some people thinking Kruger is a bit much, but i understood why he was protective of Prism and i don’t blame him one bit bc same. i also loved seeing my babies, Max and Wes, again!! :')

Book safety, content warnings, and tropes down below.

“I can tell you there is nothing casual in how I feel about Matthew. If he’s thinking about rearranging his life for me, then I’ll fit myself into any shape he creates.”

465 pages and it felt like maybe half of that. I wasn’t bored for a single second and finished it more quickly than any book recently. I must admit I didn’t have a lot of expectations because college romance really isn’t my jam and I’ve been slumpy, but I really loved it.

If you enjoy possessive and protective + hurt/comfort, then you really should read this book. It was totally OTT and dramatic at times, but it was done so well. Plenty of cliché dialogue too, but somehow it made me smile instead of cringe:

“You’re… different than I thought.”
“So are you.”
“We still don’t fit.”
“Oh, baby, tell me the parts that don’t fit, and I’ll saw them off so we do.”

I’ve really missed reading romance books with this vibe, honestly. Just completely obsessed with each other, don’t-you-dare-even-look-at-him, etc. They may be college students but they’ve got money and status and act more like wealthy CEOs sometimes, lol.

Overwhelmed, I didn’t look at him, instead pushing my face into his neck, wrapping my arms tight around his shoulders. “Good boy,” he praised softly. “Look how good you fit in my arms.” The backs of my eyes burned even though they were closed. “I fit?” I asked. His palm settled over my lower back to rub. “You fit so good.”

I absolutely cannot wait to start Coach’s book.

The shoulder my head rested against started to tremble, and I pulled back in time to see Matthew’s teeth flashing in the night. His smile was beautiful, and I was jealous of the dark for keeping some of it to itself.

Matthew was not small in size, but he was still my princess. Hidden away inside him was an unspoken desire to be manhandled and overpowered so he felt safe and protected.

Matt aka Prism is a 20 year old college swimmer with a lot of trauma. He's suffered from disorders since birth and at age 6 his politician father who had been trying to punish the behaviors out of him gave up and erased Matt from his life. Giving him to someone else to raise. Matt has been trying to cope with his brain disorders but he's easily triggered. Part of his coping is to use ASMR and listen to music. He has a crush on his favorite DJ who also secretly is coincidentally his favorite ASMR artist as well. He is in the closet. But he's considering coming out because some of his swim team members have come out recently.

Arsen is also 20 or 21, at the same college, gay, and a dj. His father is a big time politician and his father is supportive of him but wishes that he had different choices in life.

One night at a party that Arsen is DJing, the cops raid the party and Matt catches arson's eye. Arsen follows him and tries to protect him from the cops. And they accidentally end up spending a night in jail where arson has to help Matt calm down because all of his sensory issues are triggered. This starts an obsession that Arsen has with Matt. Arsen falls insta love with Matt. They get together and Arsen helps Matt work through his issues. They also deal with some obstacles from the cops and their parents.

The first thing you should know about this book is it is very much insta love and the characters are very over the top. If those things annoy you, then this book is not for you. But if those don't bother you there are some enjoyable things in this book.

My thoughts while reading:
- I'm neurodivergent and deal with some of the sensory issues Matt does, though to a far lesser extent. But I saw a lot of me in him. In a way, it was nice to relate but also some uncomfortable thoughts and moments.
- I wasn't a big fan of the insta love. I'm not a hater of insta love in general, but I like when there is more of a basis for the feelings so that I can understand them and believe the relationship more. I didn't understand why Arsen fell instantly in love with Matt. Matt had been crushing on Arsen for a long time so I understood his feelings. But Arsen's just came out of nowhere.
- I didn't like some of the over the top ways that Arsen expressed his feelings for Matt. He got so irrationally mad at people for calling him Matthew, which he wanted to claim as his personal nickname for Matt. He got jealous of people who did anything kind or caring for Matt. He was the only person that was allowed to protect and provide for Matt in his mind. Which is absolutely ridiculous! If you really care about someone, you want as many people as possible to be looking out for that person and be there for them, cuz you can't be there 24/7. And you should be happy your person has positivity in their life. What, do you want everyone to kick Matt as soon as they see him? Will it make you happier if people are just randomly abusing Matt?! Let people be kind to him.
- I kind of liked the side characters more that I liked Arsen or the Matt/Arsen relationship. Kruger stole the show every time he spoke. I kind of wish Arsen was more like him. Kruger was extremely protective of Matt but he still respected his independence, he was quietly supportive and strong for Matt but treated him like an adult and not a baby. Kruger was unapologetic. He was also extremely hilarious. He had so many quips that ate. And his ridiculous possessiveness and protectiveness was funny. Kruger is the straight best friend of Matt. The coach was also hilarious, he was so done with the antics of his athletes, but he was also always there for them and supportive. He had a lot of great quips as well.
- I didn't like the way that Matt chose the nickname of bear for Arsen. He came up with that nickname out of nowhere and he instantly overused it in a cheesy way. I love nicknames, but I like them to be more organic and develop naturally, rather than be cheesy.
- Niles annoyed the frack out of me. When you're a lawyer you're supposed to represent the wishes of your client, protect their interests. Arsen had made it very clear that his main goal was to protect Matt. Niles deliberately took a hatchet to Matt metaphorically and gleefully rubbed it in. Worst lawyer ever.
- I wish we had gotten a clear career ambition on Matt's side. It was unrealistic for him to go through so much of university with no idea of what he wanted to do career wise. And it was also not a positive message towards people with disabilities, the fact that he didn't have career direction and dreams. And it made it harder to believe that HEA, it made it more of a HFN because you couldn't visualize what Matt's life would look like in the future.

Overall a decent story if you ignore the over the top stuff. There was a lot of complicated plot stuff happening, the smut was good, I liked the emotion between the characters even if it was unrealistic insta love. The supporting characters were the most enjoyable thing.

Some notable moments:

I love this message. "I meant it when I said we didn’t have to fit to belong because fitting denoted changing ourselves to conform to a predetermined shape. But belonging meant change wasn’t required. Belonging meant acceptance no matter the shape."

"“But you guys don’t, ah, think I’m a liability to Elite?” “If anyone is a liability to Elite, it’s Rush,” Coach announced. “Dad!” Landry gasped. Rush made a rude sound. “A guy gets arrested for murder one time…”"

I love a good clingy hug "“Arsen?” Disbelief echoed in his drowsy voice. “You came.” “There is literally nothing on this earth strong enough to keep me away from you.” A sob ripped from his throat, vibrating the air around us as he shoved off the floor and flung himself at me. My body rocked when we collided, thighs locking to balance the weight. My arms sealed around him as he grappled to get closer, wrapping his muscled legs around my waist and hooking his ankles at my back. His torso arched, fitting against mine as he threaded his arms underneath my armpits to wrap them around my torso."

*FYI about steam: I rate steam based on a combination of quality & quantity. I note kink separate from steam because I don't want to underrate steamy reads that don't have much kink.

**Note about spoilers: I like to comment on the plot of a book in reviews, so I almost always mark my reviews as containing spoilers. But I try to avoid spoiling the big dramatic moments! As a reader, I personally like to know what I'm getting into before I read a book so I know more about the content and if it's to my taste/mood, so I try to give that information in my reviews for myself when I'm considering rereading and also for other readers.

This gave fated mates/omegaverse but make it a contemporary college setting with rich swimmer frat bros.

Wow okay. This wasn’t just insta-love or insta-lust, this was insta-obsession, insta-possessiveness, insta-‚mine‘. ❤️‍🔥

So yeah, don’t read this, if you’re on the fence about these tropes or feel unsettled by a clear power/capability imbalance between two MCs.
I for one fucking love these tropes. Adore them, actually, but this was SO ott, so dramatic, so intense and low key psychotic that even I had to take a step back sometimes……. Before eagerly diving right back in head first because I remembered this is just a story with fictional people that don’t have to make sense, so I can just enjoy the p/j ride of my dreams 😂

There were a few things that I didn’t vibe with though. First the plethora of side characters who were difficult to differentiate (but that’s on me, I did start with book 7 in this series after all).
Secondly, I cringed quite a few times because of the emoji use in text (*shudder emoji*), the breaking of the forth wall, the overuse of ‚mine‘ and the one-liners that were just bad. Also the book was a bit too long.

So I’d say that if you can take the book for what it is - an ott obsessive possessive fever dream with cute MCs and a well done found family trope - and ignore the many unrealistic parts, you will have a really good time. Just as I had.

3,5⭐️

⭐︎ 4.5 stars rounded up ⭐︎

A surprise new MM release in this series - at least it was a surprise for me - and I just had to devour it.

Which I did, in about a day. Over 400 pages? No problem.

I did skip the last two installments as they're MF, but reading this I found I didn't miss anything by skipping them, just like with skipping the first two in the series to read the 3rd & 4th books that were MM.

It took me a hot minute, but I remembered Prism pretty early on in this, especially when the airpods were mentioned.

I remembered him from the previous MM books, and had no inkling at all he'd get his own MM book as well.

Boy am I happy he did.

He and Arsen were perfect together from the jump, the chemistry so good that they just fit.

Warning that this is very insta-love. Like lightening speed insta-love. But these two just worked so well together that I didn't mind it. It never felt ridiculous that they were already in love within a week, because it just fit their relationship. They were intense from the jump.

So if insta-love, especially very insta-love type stories really aren't your thing, this one isn't for you. Most of the story takes place within a week, and then the last third or so jumps to a few weeks later for the climax, so by the end of this they've only been dating a little over a month by the epilogue.

It made some of their reactions to things a bit ridiculous, but overall I was able to let it go because it just fit with how quickly they got so intense.

But I did give .5 stars off because of the drama about 2/3rds into this. Arsen gets a bit upset that Prism didn't tell him about some family connections, which really felt ridiculous because they'd really known each other for less than a week or about a week.

Like quick as they were to get so intense, they didn't know everything about each other and were just starting to scratch the surface in getting to know each other. So I really didn't get his overreaction to Prism not telling him who exactly his parents were - when he didn't even bother to tell him his? (although he assumed they all knew because of his last name, but still) - and being upset about it. And also going all "he didn't trust me with this?" y'all barely know each other! I know it got intense and to the love stage so fast, but come onnnn, gimme a break.

Thankfully he got over that anger quickly, but still, it was a roll my eyes moment. Also a bit for in the epilogue when Prism is like "we've been together for over a month but I love that he still wants to take me on dates" like what? Lol you're acting like your an old married couple already lol. I had to laugh.

Otherwise, I adored this. Very fast burn it might have been, but they just clicked so well and their story was so absorbing that I let a lot of that go. I couldn't put this down.

Also I loved how I just recently had a conversation with a family member that I might have undiagnosed Misophonia and then I read this where an MC, Prism, has that.

I think I have a MUCH more mild case - if I even have it, who knows - as it's only some very specific sounds that bother me more than they should - like eating, typing on keyboards, heavy breathing, snoring, tapping of nails on surfaces, jiggling legs - and it never makes me lose control or get angry, I just get very annoyed. And only if it's really loud, gross eating, keyboard typing, loud tapping, that I have to leave a room or have a slight outburst of annoyance. Although heavy breathing is a fairly quick trigger for me into annoyance. - but all that to say, Prism has a MUCh tougher go of it than me (if I even have Misophonia and am not just a bit sensitive to some sounds and such) and a much more aggressive case. Even some textures bother him too much (which I have no problem with) and in moments of extreme panic or stress, he itches himself excessively.

But all that to say, I identified quite a bit with Prism. Not to his extreme extent, but I understood that annoyance with quite a few sounds and not being able to help it. So I felt for him so much.

And I loved how wonderful Arsen was with him, how he was basically the only one who could calm him down (at least quickly) and his presence was like a calming affect for Prism.

These two just were perfect together, with Arsen's calm demeanor that helped when Prism was in a panic but also his dominance when Prism especially needed to be submissive. They fit, even if Prism didn't think so at first.

Also I was going to point this out in my review, but the author addresses it at the end of this - that each MM story in this series has two guys on the cover and each MF has just one guy - so it was cool to see the author's explanation for that and that it wasn't a coincidence or anything haha.

And also color me surprised to learn that the last and final book of this series is going to be about their Coach of the swim team - and it's going to be MM! That has me very excited that not only will I get to read the final installment in this series, but also that that means this series gets an even number of MM and MF stories. After #3&4, I thought those were going to be it for the series, so I'm glad I was wrong about that.

Can't wait to see who is the man who will catch the Coach's eye, and heart. (Would be kinda fun if it was the father of one our Elite swimmers haha, especially since Rush fell for the Coach's daughter lol. Karma! 😉)

Onto the next! 😍

I could not get enough of Arsen and Matthew aka Prism. Their romance has so much heart, primal protection, and longing between them. Their eventual meeting is intense, suspenseful, and full of surprises. I loved how their connection is raw, unflinching, and instantaneous. Their connection stems from Arsen's ability to recognize and understand Prism's nonverbal cues which made for an interesting aspect of their dynamic.

I love how the author depicted Prism's sensory disorder. This aspect of Prism is something I have never read before and seeing his struggles and daily auditory and sensory complications was both fascinating and heartbreaking due to his intense anxiety regarding his disorder. Prism has a huge heart and having someone understand and care about making his sensory experiences better made for such a compelling story.

Arsen is the perfect counterpart to Prism. He is intense when protecting and defending Prism. He reminds me of a wrecking ball who has one goal and that is the overall wellbeing of his person, aka Matthew. His ability to understand and wrap Matthew in a cacoon of safety is one of my favorite aspects of this story. His unwavering support and love towards Prism, who is so touch starved was brilliantly done.

Overall I loved this story from beginning to end. There are beautiful moments between these two that help balance the heartbreaking backstory. Whisper is a wonderful story and I cannot wait for the next one!!!

This is probably mostly me, silly to jump into a series at book # whatever and then feel annoyed at all the side characters, but there you have it. They were all annoying, unnaturally overprotective and called each other family while I was over here cringing because - why do we all get each other coffees and call them 'Trauma Latte's'? That's what families do is it?

Also, Arsen insta-loving on Prism makes no sense to me. Prism oscillating between a panic attack brought on by sensory issues and tweaking Arsen's pierced nipples to calm himself didn't elevate the experience either. I like my obsessive MC's with a side of build up. It doesn't have to be a slow burn, but there is a Nevada-desert sized difference between that and what was going on here. Also, the dumbass cops were unrealistic af, just grunting and grumbling at them 'monied' kids.

Oh and the dialogue was stunted, and I was confused and overwhelmed.
So t.o.d. 20%...

this was so so cute!!!! our two mc’s were fully obsessed with each other, and while it was mildly ridiculous and completely over the top, i had such a fun time with them. they just matched so well, and arsen was so dedicated to matthew and so determined to help him in any and all ways 😭❤️‍🩹. complete adoration between the two!!! plus the third act breakup lasted approx a chapter, and was mainly caused by outside events, which i really appreciated. very very addictive and adorable and such a guilty pleasure!

I read like four Cambria Hebert books this year and loved them all but don't remember one from the other, but, I know I loved this book! And all her books are safe for me, no cheating or others, very "touch him and die" all around, possessive-obsessive-y goodness.

[ I received a digital arc for an honest review]

Whisper is the 7th book in the Westbrook Elite series by Cambria Hebert. This can be read as a standalone but if you enjoy it , I highly recommend reading the rest of the series!

This is one of those situations where I love a book so much that I actually struggle really hard with the review because my feelings are hard to put into words while keeping it spoiler free. The storyline of Whisper fits in with the rest of the books in the series with MCs who fall fast and a bit of over the top drama thrown in towards the end, but if you've read any of the books in the series you'll be expecting it. Also plenty of page time for all the Elite couples!

"We still don’t fit.” “Oh, baby, tell me the parts that don’t fit, and I’ll saw them off so we do.”

Prism and Arsen completely stole my heart, and I can't stop thinking of the two of them together. They were just so perfect for one another ! Prism lives with Misophonia and Tinnitus alongside anxiety and sensory triggers which makes everyday challenging. He has coping mechanisms , like ASMR, to help him focus. As a DJ , music is Arsen's life and he just so happens to be the creator of Prism's favorite ASMR content. When Prism starts to spiral, Arsen's voice helps calm and center him. Arsen is patient and understanding of Prism's struggles and he does his best to make him comfortable. The way Arsen helps Prism feel cared for and loved unconditionally is everything. The intimacy between them is also delicious, with Prism melting under Arsen's praise and every single "Good Boy". They also are the best nicknames that made my heart melt.

I’d never felt like this before. Not ever. Overwhelmed and overstimulated, but in a good way. I’d always associated those things with anxiety and fear, but this was anything but. This was pure bliss, something I hoped would never end.

Simply, do yourself a favor and read Whisper by Cambria Hebert and fall in love with Prism (who is 💯% a protect at all costs MC) , Arsen and the entire Elite swim team family 🥰 Whisper has Auditory disability rep, Possessive MCs, Hurt/Comfort, "Good Boy", the best nicknames 🧸, ASMR 🔥, Found Family at its finest , Group texts , banter, trauma lattes and so much more !

"He met me in the darkness. And now, for him, I would step into the light."

Omg. I adored Prism so freaking much!! And Arsen was just PERFECTION for him!! This book falls into the insta-love category, which I usually am not a huge fan of in contemporary, but it worked very well here. Even before Prism and Arsen met, they felt a draw to one another. It isn't until they are thrust into circumstances beyond their control that their bond truly solidifies.

"I knew then it was useless to try and not fall in love with him. I'd already fallen when I wasn't looking."

Arsen was exactly what Prism needed in his life in a partner. Someone who recognized him for who he was, perceived flaws and all, yet loved him fiercely anyways. And I do mean fiercely. Arsen was very protective of his man, even when it came to Krugar, which let me tell you did not go over well with either Krugar OR Prism. Then again, Prism had a possessive side of his own.

The steam between these two was top notch spice!! Hebert totally brought her A-game. I also loved how romantic they were together. Arsen could be so freaking sweet with Prism. Whenever he called him his Princess I practically swooned. There were a lot of emotional moments throughout their story. Not only between the MCs, but also in regards to Elite. I knew those swimmers were good peeps and I adore the found family they all are a part of.

I thought once I finished the book that would be the end of the OMG moments, but it definitely wasn't. The author teases us with the MC of the next book and I totally did NOT see this one coming. Sadly it's the last of the series, but the fact that it's MM was another surprise and one I am ecstatic to learn. I cannot wait!

If this was just about Arsen and Matthew I would have loved it. But we had the stupid Kruger and the stupid Elite. I’m so tired of them. They’re all carbon copies of each other. Max is the only one that is slightly different.

And the usage of bro grated on my nerves so much I could barely read the word. Why the fuck would Arsen say bro? That doesn’t even suit his personality!
Cambria clearly likes one kinda hero, because every single fucking guy in this series is written just like the last. How is that good writing?

I wanted to reach into the page and strangle Kruger. He was too much. I mean, leave Matthew alone for Christ’s sake. It isn’t even healthy for someone to be like that. He was so goddamn rude to Arsen. No one could deal with that bullshit. No one should have to deal with that.
I get that this is fiction, but the absolutely unrealistic way the team is with one another is too much.
When it was just Matthew and Arsen, I was so engaged and enthralled with them. Their relationship made me melt.

The side characters ruined it - utterly ruined - it for me. The group texting? come the fuck on. Like PLEASE SPARE ME.

While I understand what fiction means, I have limits. This one went way over mine.

Has anyone considered the fact that the girls and their trauma lattes are silly? It’s ridiculous. And let’s be real, not everyone clicks and meshes in real life, so how could everyone just all of a sudden become best friends??

This series is getting to be too annoying and dumb for me. But i LOVED ARSEN AND MATTHEW. It’s a shame they had to be in this book surrounded by this poorly written group of characters.

Why can’t a romance novel be written without all the side characters? Why couldn’t this just be all about Arsen and Matthew?

I would have liked to see that Matthew had agreed to meet Arden’s parents. That felt really overlooked and we were left wondering about that.

The sex scenes are so hot, not even gonna lie.

The problem for me, with Cambria, is that she writes characters one way, then when they get their own book, it’s all the same carbon copies as before (yes i know i said that before, but it really bothers me). It doesn’t feel genuine to me. Because they sound and act just like the rest of the men in this series. Same with the girls. They’re all one after the other, just alike.

The pink shirts at the end? What the hell is that about? It’s not like it was a thing that Matthew liked pink. Arsen bought him one - ONE -thing that was pink. Which i would have loved if it had been kept intimate, just between Arsen and Matthew. Why did Elite need to know about it?? It made no sense.

All this being said, Cambria’s books are what i consider to be safe reads. She always gives us HEA and no cheating and possessive MCs. And great sex scenes .

So, pros and cons. ya know?

I rated this a 3.5 star JUST because of Matthew and Arsen. It could have been a 5 star if it weren’t for all I mentioned above.

No dobrze, może przeczytanie jednej książki trzy razy w tym samym roku to lekka przesada, ale historia Matthew i Arsena po prostu mnie urzekła. I tak, jest ona OTT i ma insta-wszystko, czego normalnie nie znoszę. Tu jednak to zadziałało. Plus Prism jest taki uroczy.

Oh my goodness, Cambria Herbert’s new book Whisper was SO FREAKING GOOD, my favorite Westbrook Elite book yet. It’s got AMAZING neurodivergent rep (perfect timing for an Autism Awareness Month read), a little bit of suspense, lots of hurt/comfort, and two MMCs who fit together so perfectly. I love this series, and I’m so glad I had the chance to finally read Prism’s story!

Prism has always been the most quiet and unassuming member of the Westbrook Elite swim team. His issues with sound make it hard for him to enjoy a lot of the experiences of a typical college student, but he does enjoy listening to campus DJ Arsen’s shows. During an off campus event they both attend, police raid the party and end up inadvertently arresting both men when they find them hiding in a closet with a bag of drugs. Arsen can immediately tell that something is going on with Prism and seeks to understand how to help him. They both spend the night in jail, but the experience brings them closer together. However, despite their obvious chemistry both men are hiding things that they are convinced will drive the other away. Are they truly meant for each other or are they star-crossed from the start?

I’ve been reading a lot of books with neurodivergent rep lately, but this is my first time reading about a character with misophonia and tinnitus like Prism’s. Cambria clearly put a ton of research into his character, and the result is a nuanced and sensitive portrayal. Sweet Prism struggles so much, but watching him slowly learn to trust Arsen was so endearing. Arsen makes it clear from the start that Prism’s comfort is his priority, he’s literally the PERFECT possessive/protective boyfriend - everything Prism has been missing from his life. In addition to the sweet romance, y’all the spice is SO hot. Cambria’s spice is always next level, and Whisper is no different.

Whisper is out TODAY, and y’all are not going to want to miss this one. If you want a spicy sports romance with a lot of heart, grab it today!

This is a 2.5, but I love Prism so I'll round it up... I hate this series so much I have no word to describe the deep unease it creates in me but somehow I can't stop read it.

I hate the love interests, I hate alpha men I HATE them. Arsen was getting on my nerves, but tbh I'm not sure I like the way Prism's character was handled either. I think I just really dislike the unbalance in this series' romance, with a big possessive protector and the tiny submissive damsel-in-distress. I liked the fact that Prism was neurodivergent and found this part of his storyline very touching. But I hate this brand of insta-love where they talk once and then they're forever-in-love, I-love-everything-about-you, I-will-always-love-you kinda relationships. I swear by 10% of this book they were in love. After 2 days. That's just not for me. And the whole "princess" and "bear" nicknames, just like every single pair of nickname in this series, made me want to die. I hate the "he's MINE" obsessive streak, even though I do like the dom/sub vibes and Prism being a baby girl, I just don't like the particular way Arsen behaved with him. After reading the entire series, there is just something that creeps me out in the way the Alpha Love Interest treats their significant other. But again, it's not like I can keep myself from reading this series?? But then, next book is Coach's and if it is an age gap romance (like people thought it was hinted in book 5) I will skip lol.

Also I hate the elite people, I hate their annoying rich kid asses and the way they don't give a single fuck about people that are not in their snotty swimming club. I hate how every character that's not their friend is depicted as incompetent or cartoonishly evil. This makes for boring plots and predictable developments. In this one, I found the politics plot sooo bad, the resolution rushed and useless. Again, I hate rich kids, throwing money at people and calling your dad for help is not the sexy beast move you think it is, bear!!!!!!! Also the jealousy, GOD the jealousy is so cringe. Not the boyfriend and the brother figure fighting for attention like please have some self respect.

So yep, hate the series, but Wes Lars & Prism are my sons. I just like the gay softies fr fr.

Whisper is a Westbrook Elite book.

This is your vibe if you like
Swimmers
Found Family
Opposites Attract
Auditory Disability Rep
Hurt/Comfort

I wasn't sure I could have a favourite that would top Wish but i think this book is definitely up there. This was one of those 'right from the start I was hooked' kinda vibes. Prism had me curious in the other books with being the quiet type. But the airpods really did make me wonder...and I was right.
I related so much to Prism's character with the auditory sensory overload and misophonia struggle. Never mind the anxiety with driving.

Prism and Arsen might be opposites in alot of ways but their story fit so perfectly. This series is very much built on found family with Elite. But I think this was about Prism finding his anchor in Arsen too and I loved that.

Im really enjoying this series. So if you're thinking about starting this one this is our reminder. Also I haven't read the MF books in the series so if that's what holding you back they can absolutely be read as standalones in my opinion.

I want to come back to this, but both times I’ve tried reading it I put it down pretty soon after. And I’m a fast reader so if it takes me more than two -three days max if it’s a long book to finish a book, then it’s just not holding my interest

This was my second Westbrook Elite book after Wish and I liked this one a little better. It was generally less angsty but it also didn't include any other person drama which makes a big difference for me. This author certainly does the OTT possessive/obsessive vibe so I'll see if she has other mm books outside of this series because that shit is like catnip for me.

Matthew was an interesting character. The author chose to give him several medical conditions that drastically impacted his life. As someone who shares similar tactile sensory issues (and yes, I personally call them sensory issues even though Matthew choses not to) I appreciated reading how he exerienced and reacted to stimuli. I do not have tinnitus or misophonia and only have mild auditory sensory issues so I can't imagine experiencing that on top of the tactile stuff. We also share anxiety and panic attacks which I do more commonly see in books but coupled with the sensory stuff, I felt a real personal affinity for him. It was a little hard to get a read on his personality outside of trauma responses and sensory likes and dislikes but unfortunately those things do tend to rule your life so I get that. He had such a desire to be seen and treated softly, like the small, precious thing he felt he was inside which was hard for someone in a 6 ft athlete's body. He just wanted to be cocooned in a nest of soft fluffy things and told he was a good boy.

Arsen was a perfect match for Matthew. He had naturally good instincts about how to support Matthew even before he fully understood what was going on. Outside of those instincts he was willing to learn everything else. His desire to care for Matthew was adorable and, importantly, he didn't see it as work or a sacrifice. He felt it was a privilege to be trusted with it and that it was just something he needed to do in order for their relationship to work. Plus it fed his sort of caveman need to provide that comfort. He was exactly the kind of super OTT possessive about Matthew that I love but he also understood how important Matthew's relationships with his friends and chosen family were. Arsen knew he needed to fit himself in with the group (especially the bff Kruger) and that it was better for Matthew to have as many people in his corner as possible - even if he wanted to be the number one person he turned to.

This book was absolutely insta everything but there was at least some foundation - they had both crushed on each other from afar so it wasn't total strangers to love of my life in a day. And the insta really worked with their personalities so it didn't bother me. Matthew had a lot of trouble accepting what was going on because he didn't want to become dependent on Arsen but Arsen just kind of kept showing up and working his way in. I loved the conversations they had with each other although occasionally I wanted certain specific things said that weren't but to be fair I think that in a lot of books. I did enjoy the large found family aspect even with all the "bros" being thrown out left and right. I cringed almost every time Kruger opened his mouth but I just sort of ignored it. I am eternally grateful the author didn't use "stiffy" or "boner" again in a sexual setting (like in Wish) but she sure did use "rod" several times and, again, I really need her to stick to the approved terms on this. Cock is preferred but dick is also acceptable. Even just erection is fine. And I will take "length" over "rod" anyday. Idk, this might be the hill I die on.

The only reason I didn't rate this higher is because of the absolute gonzo subplot involving the parents. I picked up that this series had really OTT shit happening but the only other one I've read had a slightly less insane plot than this one. I'm just not sure why this couldn't have more typical age appropriate drama instead of whatever the hell that was. Also, women are still treated like a different species here which is just bizarre and reinforces why I wouldn't read any of the m/f ones. Ah well. Big shoutout for the inclusion of ASMR. It was another thing I have in common with Matthew and it was fun to see (especially the unexpected connection between the MCs around it).

Nicknames: baby, princess (this one makes me lose my mind a little I love it so much), "good boy", bear

“I know he’s not for me. No one is, but he…” He repeated my words back to me. “But he what, Matthew?” “He makes me feel like, for once, I am enough.”

An inkling of insecurity— “You’re fucking perfect, Matthew. You’re also fucking mine.” Oh. Never mind.

“That doesn’t, ah, turn you off?” The sound he made was so like amusement that I had to look up to see if I’d heard right. His onyx eyes were sparkling with emotion that made butterflies flutter in my stomach. “Princess, there is not one thing about you that turns me off.”

“Good boy,” he praised softly. “Look how good you fit in my arms.” The backs of my eyes burned even though they were closed. “I fit?” I asked. His palm settled over my lower back to rub. “You fit so good.”

The BROS are back and their guys and gals are with them!!!!! IT was so great to go back into the world of Elite and you realize within the first couple of chapters you brought back into the world and you are so happy to be there hearing the boys banter with each other and at times Kruger with his comments that just make you smile and shake your head.

This story revolves around Prism and Arsen......our favorite quiet swimmer who loves his air pods and the sexy campus DJ who. A Sultan of sound and pauper of silence.

You felt the connection these two had with each other despite the fact that they shouldn't especially when it comes out the connection their dad's have with each other. The Princess and the Bear were perfect for each other and as much as Prism fought his feelings for Arsen and felt that he was unworthy of love from anyone let alone Arsen they still got their HEA after some donuts and trauma latte's :)

Cambria has done an amazing job weaving this wonderful Elite world of swimmers and their loved ones. I have felt some anxiety and anxious in other books and she gets me again in this book. You are right there with Prism when he relieves his childhood and you feel the love that Arsen has for Prism and vice versa.

I’ve always been hesitant about insta-love, but when it’s done well, I can’t help but fall for it. Whisper by Cambria Hebert is one of those stories that just got it right. From the very first page, I was hooked. Yes, it’s a fast burn, but Arsen and Matthew (aka Prism) are the kind of characters who make you believe in instant connection. They just fit together, and their story was so absorbing that I stopped worrying about how quickly things happened and simply enjoyed the journey.

The romance between Arsen and Prism is full of heart, longing, and an intense protectiveness that kept me glued to the pages. Their story was packed with tension and surprises, and their connection felt raw and completely genuine. I loved how Arsen could immediately understand Prism’s nonverbal cues—this dynamic added so much depth to their relationship.

One of the standout elements of this book is how the author depicted Prism’s sensory disorder. Experiencing Prism’s struggles with sensory overload and his anxiety felt both heartbreaking and eye-opening. Despite everything he goes through, Prism has such a big heart, and watching Arsen care for him and make his world a little brighter was incredibly moving.

And Arsen? He’s everything Prism needs and more. His fierce protectiveness and unwavering love were perfect counterpoints to Prism’s vulnerabilities. The way he supported Prism, especially as someone so touch-starved and anxious, was beautifully done. Arsen didn’t just love Prism; he truly understood him.

This story had such a perfect balance between the tender, beautiful moments and the heavier, emotional backstory. I loved every bit of it. Whisper is heartfelt, unique, and completely unforgettable.

Another solid edition to the Elite world. I adored Arsen and Prism. We knew so little about Prism but knew that he had some secrets but boy did he surprise me and break my heart. This momma bear wanted to give him the biggest hug. I loved how Arsen saw him, believed him and also recognized some of his disabilities and loved him just has hard.

OMG of course I fell in love with Prism & Arsen! I’m not even surprised that these two are now in the third spot of top 5 favourite Cambria characters. I mean no offense no one could take Max & Wes’s spot, but Landry & Rush, it was so close haha! Seriously I started this book at 11pm & was like I’ll read a couple chapters then go to bed. Did that happen? No, suddenly it’s 3am & my eyes are burning but the books done & I wish I had savoured it more! It’s definitely one I will be rereading! The Westbrook series is so addicting, it’s tied (or maybe taking the spot of 🤯) with the Hashtag series!

Prism stole my heart & Arsen made me swoon & want to climb him like a tree! Prism came such a long way from the start of the book & my heart broke with everything he had been through. Kruger’s one liners had me in side splitting laughter & of course I absolutely loved getting to see the rest of the gang!

“I mean he exposed layers of me that had never seen the light of day. He found me in the darkness, didn't even ask to turn on a light, patiently waiting in the shadows for his eyes to adjust so he could meet me where I was instead of expecting me to come out.”

This series is amazing (the books I have read in it at least) and Matt/Prism was always a quiet and intriguing figure in the background. He had quirks, issues and was just a mystery waiting to be solved. He finally got his own story, unravelling all that he is in it.

Prism has had a crush on Arsen, the very hot DJ that plays a lot of their college parties, on one of those nights he lets himself go and makes sure Arsen notices him while he tries to seduce him from across the room. But plans never go the way you want them to and after the police breakup said party, they both get arrested.

Spending a night in jail wouldn’t be the worst thing but with Prism’s issues that come with his misophonia, tinnitus and his past, this is about the worst thing that could happen to him.

“He came off as the strong, silent type. Tall. Dark. Muscular. He hung with the popular crowd, seemed almost aloof and indifferent to everyone around him. But he was not at all what he appeared. Well, physically, he was. But the rest? A smoke show. Armor. Nothing but a disguise.”

Arsen notices the struggle Prism is going through and makes sure they get locked in the same cell that night. He will stop at nothing to get Prism through this night in one piece.

"When you touch me, everything is just right. Like all this time, my body's been waiting for you. Your name is really fitting, Arsen," he whispered. "You set me on fire and make me burn."

What I loved about this story and these two beautiful characters was the way Arsen would adapt to Prism’s needs seamlessly. He would ask and clarify before he would make sure the situation fitted to Prism’s needs. Even when Prism didn’t want to open up, Arsen made sure he had the information he needed to be accommodating. Where a lot of people wouldn’t bother or would view a person like Prism as too much trouble, Arsen went out of his way for a guy he barely knew because he felt it could be so much more.

“My heart might still reside in my chest, but it was no longer mine. His hands were wrapped around it, an unfamiliar sensation but one I could no longer live without.”

The love in this story is so breathtaking, not just between the MMC’s but also all the Elite who will show up for each other at every turn. The banter and jokes between them give the story a lightness to balance the heavy. Support and found family are such a big part of this series. And with where Prism came from it left be a bit teary, he really deserves all that warmth and love.

“He met me in the darkness. And now, for him, I would step into the light.”

These books always leave me happy and content. I can’t wait for the next one and to finally read what Cambria has in store for our coach!

"DNA is just a report card of the past," Arsen said, his perfect voice alighting my nerve endings and making something inside me sing. "I'm not interested in your past, Matthew. Your future is what I'm after. Your future is what I will have."

I received an ARC in exchange for my honest review.

"It silenced all the chaos inside me so I could hear what really mattered."

As a dedicated fan of Cambria Hebert's Westbrook Elite Series, each new installment feels like a reunion with cherished friends. "Whisper," the latest addition to this beloved series, doesn't just maintain the standard; it surpasses expectations, delivering a captivating story of love, discovery, and finding one's voice in a world of noise.

In "Whisper," Hebert masterfully weaves a tale of unexpected connections and the transformative power of love. The story revolves around two unlikely heroes: Arsen Aaron Andrews, known as Triple A, a charismatic campus DJ with a secret, and Matthew Miller, also known as Prism, a member of the Elite swim team who struggles with misophonia and tinnitus. Their journey begins with a chance encounter that thrusts them together in the most unexpected circumstances: a night in jail.

What follows is a touching exploration of their burgeoning relationship, as they navigate the complexities of their individual struggles and past traumas. Hebert's portrayal of Prism's challenges with misophonia and tinnitus is both sensitive and heartfelt, shedding light on conditions that are often misunderstood. Through Arsen's unwavering support and understanding, Prism learns to embrace his vulnerabilities and find solace in the midst of chaos.

One of the most compelling aspects of "Whisper" is the depth of its characters. Prism's quiet strength and Arsen's fierce loyalty leap off the pages, drawing readers into their world and rooting for their happiness. Their chemistry is palpable, their love story a testament to the power of connection and resilience in the face of adversity.

Hebert's writing shines as she effortlessly blends moments of sweetness with sparks of passion, creating a narrative that is as heartwarming as it is steamy. The dynamic between Prism and Arsen is electric, their interactions brimming with tenderness and longing. As their relationship unfolds, readers are treated to a rollercoaster of emotions, from laughter to tears and everything in between.

But "Whisper" is more than just a love story; it's a celebration of found family and the bonds that unite us. The camaraderie among the members of the Elite swim team adds depth and richness to the narrative, reminding us that love comes in many forms and that true acceptance knows no bounds.

In conclusion, "Whisper" is an enchanting tale of love, discovery, and the power of connection. With its compelling characters, heartfelt romance, and resonant themes, it's a must-read for fans of the Westbrook Elite Series and newcomers alike. As the series draws to a close, "Whisper" stands as a fitting tribute to Hebert's talent and the enduring magic of love.

Happy reading!

I missed my Elite bros so much 😭

This series is one of my favourites, solely for the found-family trope which is so well done by Cambria Hebert. I don't think I've found another author that writes this trope as well (that I can think of right now since I might be blinded by how good this was) and it really demonstrates the feelings of belonging, being welcomed and loving with no bounds.

Prism lives with a brain disorder called misophonia (my best description is that certain sounds cause extreme emotional reactions) and severe anxiety. Because of how we was treated throughout childhood, he rarely lets people close but those he does let in immediately become family - including Kruger & Jess, and his grandmother.

When a party gets raided and leaves Prism and Arsen in an uncomfortable situation involving planted drugs and a night in the slammer, their relationship is kickstarted from 0 to 100. They've both been admiring the other from afar for a bit, and this encounter shows Arsen a private side of Prism that he can't resist wanting and trying to support - he accepts him exactly as he is, and just wants to make everything better for him. Honestly, I think Arsen fell in love with Prism that night.

While the book covers only a couple of weeks, the relationship is built out in a way that allows you to fully appreciate their love story and does not feel rushed. While on the side of insta-love (something I admit I do love) it did not feel that way for long, since they've known each other before the events of the book (earlier in the series) and the relationship dynamics were written so well.

While facing unexpected secrets and revealed identities, their relationship is put to the test by external forces, but I wouldn't count it as a third-act breakup, since Arsen had absolutely no intention of letting Prism go (and only let him go for a couple hours while he handled things himself).

This was one of my favourite of the series and I 100% recommend!

P.S. The bonus epilogue available when you sign up for the author's newsletter gave me all the found-family vibes and I loved it

Safety info:
– Dual pov
– No virgins (Prism has some experience but minimal, Arsen used to have hookups but does not come off as a manwhore and his past is rarely mentioned - I felt it was completely safe and not unbalanced)
– College romance, both 21 (I think)
– No cheating or OM/OW drama
– HEA ending + epilogue
