The next book of the series! The Order of Architects (Book 3):
An heir without an inheritance. A weak Mage with huge potential and a wealth of experience. A young man living a second life. That’s me, Theodore the Babylonian.
I am getting to grips with life in Liechtenstein, little by little. But the time has come to get back what is rightfully mine. Most importantly, however, I must show everyone that what’s mine is sacred.
And anyone who has their eye on it… Let’s just say, I wouldn’t want to be in their shoes.
The story begins right after the last and picks up speed ao smooth you would think it was a Hollywood blockbuster. The protagonist is developed a little more and new characters are added it was a great story that I truly enjoyed.
Another great book from the promising newcomers Oleg Sapphire and Yuri Vinokuroff!
For me it had the right mix of intrigues, action and humour.
The protagonist has become rather strong but has to become stronger to survive and overcome all the odds stacked against him. I enjoyed the introduction of the new interesting side characters.
I was amused by the subversive actions against his enemies and the events at the ball. Unfortunately, there was no cultivation progress, however.
I am looking forward to reading the next book of the series!
Second book in the series - I’ve read about 8 so far, had forgotten to review, circling back to add my thoughts.
Overall this is a fun series to read - I have enjoyed the antics of Thodore and his golems, It’s funny as well as a solid read on the various mage classes which are also covered in the author’s other books (Healers, Hunters). In fact, I think I have and have read the majority of Oleg & Yuri’s other series too, and enjoyed them as thoroughly.
The only complaint is that their entire series is still being created/translated, and I wish they would come out more quickly!
Overall - 5 stars - written well, good world-building, low or no errors in the book, and full continuity for characters, plots, and timelines.
Book 2 is a much better edition to this series! Fast and fun!
The world building and main character have improved so much in book 2 in the series that's rejuvenated me that I've already pre-ordered book 3. I enjoy these authors as they create a logical fun modern fantasy world building / alternate reality that really, once you get past editing issues and silly mistakes, makes for a really fun enjoyable read. They've really fleshed out the main character and all the supporting cast with good dialogue and logical progression in the storyline. Can't wait for book 3!
* The worst sort of self-regarding Mary Sue protagonist? Check. * Paper-thin supporting characters? Check. * A magic system that is based on the author's convenience? Check. * Dei ex machina over and over again? Check. * A world that makes no sense? Check. * A story that ends in the middle of a battle? Of course.
So, why am I not giving this book one star? I have no idea. But for some reason, I don't actually hate it. Oh, I won't be buying any more books in the series; it really is bad. But as a palate cleanser, I've read worse. Somehow.
I loved the book! Theodore is a fantastic guy. Smart, funny, kind to those that deserve it, willing to do what it takes to support himself, but not a criminal. The plot is definitely a long one. Actually there are several plots going on. This is definitely going to be part of the series, the resolution to the conflicts, but it’s not book ending cliffhangers, which I rarely enjoy. I just cannot wait to dive into the next book.
Theo Babylonian continues to grow his power. At the same time he is trying to obtain his full inheritance. This is were he runs into trouble. His Castle and lands have been switched and appropriated. But he starts his battle with the usurpers. Now a Chinese buyer finds his store and discovers his masterful work. She decides that a Master Craftman must not endure so much troubles and decides to assist him. All in all another great volume in the series.
Theodore is such a great character. He's so talented and discreet. He attracts the best people, who help him and the worst people, who try to kill him. His training in social skills is superb. It stymies his opponents with politeness, which leads to funny situations. A joy to read.
Theodore is gradually getting his old power back. Enemies constantly underestimate him. The result can be a lot more than six feet under. This leads to interesting customers in his store, useful but deadly associates, battles of wits, and actual battle. I like the action, humor, relationships, and intrigue. I look forward to the next book.
The series is set in modern times on an alternate Earth where the Russian and Chinese empires are still around and takes place somewhere in Russia. It’s a good series although there’s a lot of grammatical errors that sometimes disrupts your flow when reading but they’re not too bad.
I really enjoyed reading this book. I seriously knew what I was getting myself into, because Oleg Sapphire is a bada$$ author and book 1 was quite fun. With shadow monsters to destroy and a serious need to get stronger. So go ahead and grab the book...
This was a fun continuation of the story started in the first book. The narration style is interesting, but still quite enjoyable. And the magic system is intriguing. Looking forward to the next book!
Theodore has a knack for making both alliances and enemies, so the fun continues to increase. As his powers continue to grow, his schemes for success and revenge become more involved. Can’t wait to see what happens next
I think every reader needs to start doing this to force authors to write a quick Recap chapter, which readers can skip if they remember, and those who don't won't stop reading the series.
Theodore is a really fun character to follow. His knowledge as an Earth mage is fascinating to watch. The antics of the aristocrats was appalling to see. I can't wait to read the next in the series.
I received a review copy of this book. I generally like books with lots of building in them. This book has that, but a whole lot more as well. Really want to read more in this series.
What a good story! I really like the mc and his confidence. I like the new side characters too, I’m glad they’re not annoying or too competitive. On to the next book!
