Psychotropia: Maestro's Creed

Rate this book
A trippy trek through America's virtual zeitgeist, Psychotropia blurs the lines between reality and illusion. Deepfakes, holograms, spy gadgets, and slapstick news flood the landscape, a testament to humanity’s addiction to lurid escapism. That obsession engulfs retired journalist Liam Kohl after his psychic wife's cremains are stolen by Maestro, aka Ouroboros, a fanatical cult leader.

Desperate to fulfill his wife's dying wish, Kohl and his bickering company embark on a treacherous journey from Oregon to find a way across the closed Idaho border and reclaim Joan's ashes.

Known for his controversial "slash therapy" - a cocktail of psilocybin and human remains - Maestro believes it unlocks new levels of consciousness and powers in its recipients.

His objective? To create a legion of elite followers who will change the world.

Maria, carrying a child Maestro believes is his successor, joins Liam and his posse as they prepare to navigate through drones, gunmen, and wildfires. Can they protect her and her son from Maestro’s twisted ministry? The stakes soar as they race their foe to a sawmill that occupying cultists are fortifying against a siege. There, with their hallucinations fused by slash, Liam and his nemesis confront each other and their demons.

Buckle up for a mind-bending, psychedelic odyssey filled with danger, gallows humor, and shocking revelations.

This is a fun book! Psychotropia effectively shows its readers how America will look in the not too distant future socially and technologically. The author is adept at projecting what the new normal will be in a way that is satirical but also feels frighteningly accurate based on today’s social norms. Tackling environmental issues, homelessness, psychedelic therapy, the American appetite for cable news, cults, and more the book moves at a fast pace and continues to be engaging. Really enjoyed this read!!!

I thoroughly enjoyed this book, with its sharp, dark humor and brilliantly witty characters. The satirical daily news snippets at the start of each chapter were hilarious and added a clever touch to the storytelling. One of my favorite characters was Neighbor M—vibrant, unpredictable, and wonderfully eccentric. The book kept me entertained from start to finish.
