JJ zana writes well. His aphorisms are interesting and sometimes poetic. He makes good observations and has craft. Alas, I felt a little bit like I was listening to a pretentious hipster at times. Who was so high up his own arse that I was often unable to transcend the facade and uncover what the writer was actually trying to say; it felt like the truths he was reaching for could have been grasped, if it wasn't washed in wankiness. He is nowhere close to Kafka and any reference to him is insulting to the man to be honest. Nor, would he like that. But I respect the attempt to reach for profundity, but it didnt pay off at all. Perhaps strip away the fluff, and the high-reaching quasi-philosophy stuff, get back to basics and he might be able to find some real power within, cos it's clear he can write and has a decent prose structure. Zana has talent, but the ego is too present in the work and it's too pretentious therefore. This is the issue I had with it. But certainly a good attempt and I respect the effort! And not a total waste of time, had some good moments. He has craft. No doubt. Thats my view, for whatever it's worth.
