Rate this book
A small child discovers God’s presence in the world around him. A boy’s simple question sparks a search for God. Prompted by his grandfather, he discovers God’s presence in a powerful storm, in a friend’s help, and in his sister’s kindness. Then his grandfather shares another God also can be found in our hearts, if we invite him in. Filled with wonder, That’s Where God Is! teaches children ages 4 to 8 that God is always with them. Moving beyond simply telling about God, it gently guides children’s spiritual growth, showing them how to recognize God’s presence for themselves. Wow. I cannot believe that I cried so strongly from reading a children's book, but this is absolutely beautiful. At the back of the book is a letter from Lee Strobel, an author that I have started coming across more and more often explaining the importance of this book to him written by his daughter and her husband. The story line is incredible and touching. A relationship between a grandfather and his grandson on a journey of finding God in the world around him. Artistry from Cory Godbey is so colorful and soft, while vibrant and imaginative at the same time. The one thing that I am ambivalent about is the translation version of the scripture used. The translation is the NIrV (New International Reader's Version). I guess it is because it is a version that I am not familiar with, but I just felt that it did not flow as well as others I prefer. But that is minimalistic.

I love this book. This is an absolute treasure for our permanent shelf. I pray that is will be a book that my daughter wants me to reach for over and over again. I have incredible parents and a good church upbringing, but I do not really remember much talking about God at home. The idea of having this book as a way to open up communication and highlight the places where God is involved in our lives on a day to day basis is incredible. Tears of joy and expectation of the future were brought from reading and sharing this book with my daughter for the first time. I pray that I can be a parent worthy of sharing my faith with my daughter to help her grow knowing about a loving God.

I have to confess. I'm an idiot. When I was offered this book for review, it never even occurred to me why the title sounded so familiar. It wasn't until after I read the book to my daughters, Coco and Lulu, and 2 of our neighbors who were over for the afternoon, and I saw the afterword by Lee Strobel, that I remembered. Strobel – as in Alison Strobel Morrow. As in the author of The Weight of Shadows: A Novel, a book that I reviewed on my website. This awesome book is written by one of my favorite new authors – and her husband! And I didn't even realize it when I read it. And I still loved it! And I'm done saying “and”. I think.

One day a little boy says to his grandpa, as he's sitting on his grandpa's lap “Grandpa, where is God?”. Grandpa agrees that he's asked a really good question, and suggests that the little boy look for God throughout the week. They decide to talk about it again when they see one another the following Sunday. So the little boy sets out on a adventure to find God in his every day life. The little boy was able to find God amongst his classmates, zoo animals, with his family, and with his friends.

There's some extra learning going on this book as well. Your children will learn about the days of the week and will have the opportunity to learn the scripture verses which accompany each “sighting” of God. This book is perfect for helping to answer a question that your child is sure to ask one day soon – if she hasn't already.

My 6 year old, Lulu, immediately after hearing the question, asked what God looks like. She scrutinized every picture seeking Him out. She really enjoyed the little situations in which our big 'ole God was there.

My 4 year old was the first to realize the most important place where God is. She thought it was funny that God was involved in the ice cream situation.

Neighbor Isis, 10, enjoyed reading this Christian story and recounted the Last Supper where Jesus washed the feet of His disciples in “a bucket”.

Little Miss Peyton, who just turned 4 last month, said she enjoyed the whole story, but liked the pictures the best.

That’s Where God Is is a great example of how important grandparents are to their grandchildren. Now only to nurture and love them, but to also explore God with them. I really liked the fact that the grandpa didn’t spoon-feed his grandson as to where God is. He allowed the boy to learn while searching out the answer for himself, while I’m sure Grandpa was praying.

Ali and Dan’s book shows the homey touch of the boy’s home with his mom, siblings, a cat, and a dog; the young boy’s outings; and natural, loving interactions at home. Along with the adventures of ‘finding God,’ Scripture is used to back up what he’s learning about God.

The grandpa is attentive to his grandson’s observations the following week, affirming him, and going on to reveal more about God and prayer–His desire for a personal relationship.

Grandparents, take note. Though your children are gone and have families of their own, God can and will use you in the lives of your grandchildren if you allow yourself to be available. Something He delights in doing.

Take heart if you don’t have children or grandchildren, God can use you in the lives of neighborhood kids or anywhere He knows you are open to invest in our future generation.

Find this wonderful Christian picture book, for children that explains how we can find God, within our everyday lives. Not, a fan of the illustrations, as don’t like the colour tone of them. But the message and story make up for them. Teachers’ children, to see the goodness in things, as that’s where you find God, but its even more important to pray in thanks. We need more books like this!

What an absolutely wonderful book! At the beginning of the story, he asks his grandpa where God is, and is told to look for Him over the next week. From the playground and home to the zoo – and even in a storm – a little boy discovers that God is everywhere. The book ends after he tells his grandfather of his discoveries, and his grandfather leads him to invite God into his heart. What an absolutely wonderful, natural way to help introduce children to the notion of having God in their hearts! I love how it's not forced, but a natural extension of the story of how a boy finds God in everything everywhere.

There also are Bible verses as the boy discovers God in various places, each verse applies to the location in which He is found. Then, at the end of the book we have Psalm 139:1-10. A great verse to share with children.

My 4-year-old son and I absolutely loved this story. When I asked him what he thought, the first word he said was "good." Then he said, "It was fun." The pictures are pretty, too.

One last note, there's a message at the back from Lee Strobel, and athiest-turned-Christian. The author of The Case for Christ and other similar titles, Strobel discloses that this book was written by his daughter and son-in-law. Having read The Case for Christ – and knowing Strobel's story – I found this information made me smile.

This is a precious picture book written to help parents talk to their child about God. Where is God and how can I find him? This story starts out with a young boy sitting on his Grandpa’s lap asking him about God.

His Grandpa discusses the topic of God and he challenges the boy to look for God this week and report back to him what he finds. The little boy is excited about this mission his Grandpa has him on. He’s earnestly starts his search of God. Where can he find him? Since his eyes have been opened to the possibilities through what his Grandpa says he finds the most amazing things.

I’m so excited about this series and how this topic is handled. This book is a great vehicle to have parents and children talk about big topics like God. Dan and Ali Morrow make is simple. I think that’s what I loved most about this book plus I enjoyed the pictures too. I can’t wait for the next book in this series. I was so thankful to receive a review copy of this book.

This is a special book.

I love that this book gets right down to the brass tacks of salvation and the reality of God's presence and sovereignty in our world.

It is appropriate for age 3, and will remain age-appropriate, I think, for many years.

The artwork is not my favorite, however, the story surpasses the quality of the art to such an extent that I still give this one five big stars.
