Jerry Hopkins was an American journalist and author best known for writing the first biographies of Elvis Presley and Jim Morrison of The Doors, as well as serving for 20 years as a correspondent and contributing editor of Rolling Stone magazine.
My personal copy of this book has vanished, but it was a powerful influence on me as a high school senior in 1969 and one of the resources I drew on, along with books by Herbert Marcuse and songs by Bob Dylan and Phil Ochs, in a high school valedictory address. Like today, those were dark times, but also filled with energy and optimism that seems in more limited supply today.
