This being an anthology of many different short stories, an exact rating is hard, but I think it deserves a five overall.
Most of the stories were good. There were a few I didn’t like as much, but that’s more due to the fact that they weren’t the type of story I look for more than anything else. Some of them were fantastic. In whatever order I feel like…
My, What a Big Heart you Have, by JaymeLee Womac. This is a fractured fairytale story, and it was everything I look for! It was beautifully written, and handled flashbacks very well, as well as the trauma that comes along with the fairytales. The characters were amazing friends, and it wasn’t a sad or depressing story. I. Loved. It. So. Much.
Wanderer, by Rachel Peterson. The way it was written was amazing. It carried a dream-like feel with it, mysterious and… longing? It’s kind of hard to describe. But it was wonderful and imaginative. It’s one of those stories where you reach the end and are left in this kind of limbo space thinking, “Woah.” It was a little weirder, but in a strange, forgotten magic kind of way. I’m not sure if that makes any sense. Regardless, this was really good.
Blackbird, by A.E. Mauer. This had the same bedtime story, dreamlike feel as Wanderer. I am a huge fan of this feeling, but it’s hard for a book to do that. This story was touching and sweet, and also quite short. (Though, I must say, these are short stories. They’re all short.)
The Boy from the Sea is my very favorite, but I’m incredibly biased as this one is my story. So I can’t exactly review it. Others I loved were Whispers of the Woods, by Evelyn Parker (I think? I don’t currently have the book on me, so I’ll edit this when I do if it’s wrong.), The Boy Who Fell from the Sky, by Chloe B. Christensen, and A Silent Song, by Elija Lewis.
This is my most treasured book, and I have quite a few treasured books. I would definitely recommend it. And not just because my own story is in it, though that certainly does contribute. I would still recommend it, even if it wasn’t.
