VENGEANCE EXACTED! As the new Moon Knight serves his own vision of justice, Marc Spector's allies and friends take it upon themselves to find his base of operations and take the fight to him! But the Fists of Khonshu hold a bloody and well-earned reputation, one which the likes of Hunter's Moon, Tigra and Soldier are all about to experience firsthand! Rated T+
Man I'm really liking these character piece issues. First Tigra and now Soldier. This is wonderful to get a look into their feelings and loss around Marc and also what they're up to trying to defend their city. Great stuff.
Now onto Soldier! Shifting the flashbacks into flash-forwards was cool, and I liked seeing the crew dig for information about the new Moon Knight. Really enjoying this narrative so far!
I think I realized - when I first purchased these issues - that this was only a nine issue mini-series at about three issues in, and I got sad. I recently learned MacKay will be authoring the upcoming Moon Knight series coming out in October, however, which I think is a good choice on Marvel's part: MacKay is excellent on this run, and is doing well on Avengers, too. (I'm giving him time on X-Men but not quite as impressed with issue one on that run so far.)
That being said, my favorite of the new gang, Soldier, is up at therapy. And boy, the whole crew is having a hard time with Marc's death. That being said, they're all being open in therapy, which is hard to do, and I'm proud of them all.
Soldier struggles with being the soldier, obeying orders - and those orders getting his boss killed. A boss who saved him despite his tawdry past as a Hydra soldier, one who was very, very good at following orders. When he died, and came back as a vampire, Soldier was still determined to be, in his words, Moon Knight's guy. When everyone else questioned Moon Knight's order, Soldier didn't berate them, but he shrugged and simply said 'they're orders.' He would have gladly killed or died for Moon Knight had he been asked - and yet he wasn't given that opportunity.
So if he can't have died in Marc's place, he will uphold his legacy - and make sure no one else dirties it. Which means tracking down the man posing as Moon Knight, a man who has threatened the crew, and attempted to forcefully wrest the Midnight Mission from them.
This issue showed the aftermath and turmoil of actions out of the midnight mission’s hands. I really felt the pot boiling over because of this so-called “new moon knight.” It really puts a kick to the characters to do something and being proactive with their issues rather than reactive. In addition, I like how each issue focuses on one character of the midnight mission and how they are dealing with what’s going on. A good issue that shows the inciting action for the rest of the story.
It's so nice seeing Soldier get more play, he's a really interesting and troubled character and I love how much we're learning about his mindset at this point
