In her teens, Janie Osman learned that bad boys are bad news. Fun was overrated, and mundanity became her new goal—two kids, a part-time job, an unremarkable husband, and a deep and meaningful relationship with her battery-operated boyfriend. Only for it all to get torn away in an instant.
A move to the cosy village of Engleby seems like the best option, but rebuilding her life isn’t easy, especially with two young boys in tow. When a random act of vandalism brings trouble into her life in the form of Eisen Renner, the ultimate bad boy, will she follow her head or her heart? Should she choose security? Or risk everything for love?
Elise Noble is an English rose with a few thorns who loves chocolate, sleep, and well-defined abs. Not hers, unfortunately. She lives near London with a horse who eats all her money and three dogs who eat everything else.
Elise writes real, gutsy heroines and flawed but swoon-worthy heroes in stories that mix mystery and mayhem, humour and happily-ever-afters.
It was such an easy, enjoyable read. The story follows Janie, a soon-to-be-divorced mom, and what struck me most was how real and relatable she felt. Her life is a mess, her confidence shattered, and yet she’s still trying to pull everything together. It’s less about Halloween and more about her journey of self-discovery and overcoming personal fears, which I appreciated.
The writing is smooth and flows effortlessly, making it hard to put down. But while I loved the feeling it left me with, I didn’t really get that strong Halloween vibe I was expecting. It was like something was just missing to make it a perfect 5-star read. Still, the theme of starting over and facing life's challenges resonated with me.
In the end, this book is more than just a light seasonal read. It’s a touching story about resilience and finding hope in the chaos. I’d recommend it to anyone looking for something heartwarming.
I am shocked that anyone can give this above a 2-star rating.
I received this as a Halloween gift from my mother, and I want to apologize to her for wasting her money. "A Very Happy Halloween" is a vague attempt to cross an adult romance with a Halloween theme. It fails to be a fulfilling romance, and it fails to be a Halloween story. It reads like a post that someone would make up online for clout.
I acknowledge that I'm not the target demographic for this book, but I find it an offense that this has a nearly 5 star rating. Read this book if you are looking for an extremely predictable, easy to read romance.
Each character has a role to fill, and they are not allowed to step out of it. It's almost laughable how cookie-cutter the characters are. The main character Janie is barely a character; she is a person to whom things happen. I honestly can't list anything that she does of her own free will in the book. The first-person perspective offers nothing into Janie's psyche: she is a worn-out mother slobbering over Eisen. That is where her character starts, and that is where it ends.
Meanwhile, Janie's almost ex-husband Steven is comically evil. Of course he was a terrible, uncaring husband, of course he is deep in credit card debt, and of course the woman he cheated on Janie with, then cheats on him. With each new revelation, my eyes rolled further until they were burrowing holes into my skull.
The male love interest, Eisen, is supposed to be a cool bad boy, but he is snipped of anything that would make him an interesting or engaging character. Oh no, he ghosted Janie after a one night stand! But it was because he went to prison. Oh no, he went to prison! But it was for beating up his sister's rapist. Oh no, he wears an eyepatch! But it was for protecting a friend. Plus, he just so happens to be a millionare able to solve Janie's every issue. As if the over-emphasis on his genitals and abs weren't enough. Eisen is not a character; he is a cardboard cutout wearing sweatpants for the reader to drool over.
Furthermore, it's barely even a Halloween story! Frustrations with the terrible, cliched, mind-bogglingly predictable romance, it at least IS a romance. I can't call this a Halloween story even in the most generous of lights. The last quarter of the novel is about Eisen flaunting his money on a Halloween party for Janie's children, and it barely matters at all.
When the challenges of life seems to be not in your favour.... home maintenance issues, children issues, (ex) husband issues and a long lost love affair that just needs a little redirection and help, you know you are going to be thoroughly entertained when Author Elise Noble gets to tell this story. The characters from major to minor players were simply fantastic, especially when readers get to view life through children's eyes and believe me the youngest boy Alfie was so truly beautifully created and outstanding. A wonderfully created plot of second chance love, personal hiccoughs, devotion and loyalty and the typical betrayals from a cheating husband all lead readers onto a truly incredible journey filled with scenarios that will make you laugh. A plot that is nicely balanced out with drama, emotional scenarios, typical mindsets of women over a certain age, children's incredible sense to not only speak the truth but simply do what children do. There were so many incidents that left me laughing so hard at the sheer honesty of these moments but more than anything the idea of true love finding its destiny. For a novella it defintely hits the spot to really captured readers interests and heart and even if you have never read any of the Authors previous works you can still successfully navigate through the plot, but to the readers that have read previous titles you will see the small connections that entwine from previous titles and characters.
“A Very Happy Halloween”* by Elise Noble is an unexpected treat that blends humor, heartache, and a touch of nostalgia into a story that resonates long after the last page is turned. The protagonist, Janie, a soon-to-be-divorced mother of two, is both relatable and endearing as she navigates the chaos of her life. Her world is in disarray—her house is a mess, her confidence is shattered, and her son is making new friends that leave her feeling even more disconnected.
The real magic happens when Janie reconnects with an old lover, sparking a journey of self-discovery and hope. The author deftly handles the theme of starting over, reminding us that sometimes, the scariest things in life aren’t ghosts or goblins, but the fear of facing our own shortcomings. Yet, with a little help, even the most tangled lives can find their way to a happy ending.
What stands out in *“A Very Happy Halloween”* is how authentically it portrays the messy, complicated, and sometimes hilarious reality of life after separation. Janie’s struggles are real, but so is her resilience, making her journey all the more satisfying. This book is more than just a seasonal read; it's a story of redemption and the courage to embrace new beginnings, and overcoming fears.
I am an avid reader of Elise's books, but this one was different in a very positive way. I loved the story of Eis and Janie; their background relationship, their journey, and the HEA of this book. But the writing style was a little different from other books I've read by Elise and I really liked it. This one was smooth, flowed well, and can definitely be read as a stand alone. Many books link many characters and, while they reintroduce the characters, having read the previous books provides a deeper understanding of the characters. For this book you can pick it up and read it without wanting or needing background on the characters. This was such a great book. By the time I was done with it I actually forgot that this was one in the series Happy Ever After. It was just an all around great book, great characters, great story, and definitely on my list of one of Elise's best books. I highly recommend this if you want a HEA for Janie and Eis.
Janie doesn't have it easy living alone with her two boys in a house with no working shower, leaking pipes as well as a leaking roof. Her soon to be ex-husband isn't paying any childcare so she hardly makes ends meet. When her oldest son Harry threw paint over the door of a scary house things are hitting the fan because Janie doesn't know how to pay for a new door. Surprise, surprise the owner wants Harry to learn from his mistake and that means sanding down the door and painting it again. Little does Janie suspect that she knows the owner from 13 years ago..
It's fun and a fast read, second chance love story. I love that she hits the jackpot but can we get a few more chapters, please? 😉 I loved this story but finished the book within a day so what now? 🤣
Welp, this was kinda disappointing. Not Halloweenie at all, there was an extremely short chapter that took place at a Halloween party and a brief description of a costume but that was it. Definitely not enough for the Title to be “A Very Happy Halloween”
I kept debating between either a 2 or 3 star rating for this one. The beginning was pretty rough but the second half improved a lot. The first handful of chapters were just the main character complaining about her bratty children & describing her mess of a life & ex husband. Once she met Eyes or Eis (what a weird name) it definitely got better. Eis was very rich & that essentially fixed all her problems. Overall not halloweenie but also not horrible as far as cheesy kindle romance type novellas go.

A Very Happy Halloween by Elise Noble. A charming story about second chances and not letting past regrets stand in the way of living the life you believe you deserve. The two main characters Janie Osman and Eisen Renner had a passionate "ships passing in the night" moment in the past. They reconnect years later by accident and what follows is a madcap series of events that ends in their Happy Ever After. This story is a stand alone romantic comedy novella (146 pages), characters that featured in the previous books in this series make an appearance. A great quick read. Happy Ever After Series - Book 3
Being a single mom raising two boys with two different personalities is not easy. Add in a house under renovations and a low income job it is a recipe for disaster. When Harry, Janie's older son gets in trouble for throwing paint on a strangers door as a prank, she has to find a way to pay for the prank. The stranger, whose a blast from Janie's past, comes up with the idea to have her son do all the work on his porch to learn a valuable lesson. But is this a blessing in disguise or will it turn out to be another heart break for Janie?
Read A Very Happy Halloween to find out if it will be Happily ever after or Heartbreak all over again.
A Very Happy Halloween is an enjoyable and entertaining story that will warm your heart and leave you with a smile. Thanks to a cast of intriguing characters, the narration flows lightly, often inciting smiles and the occasional laugh. Ms. Noble's signature prose infuses a three-dimensional depth to the narration with cleverly designed, irresistible expressions. Overall, A Very Happy Halloween is a pleasurable and entertaining novella. I recommend it to readers seeking a light-hearted, heartwarming story.
This is a fun short story. A Very Happy Halloween presents both the humor and conflict in the lives of Janie Osman, her sons, Alfie and Harry, a cheating soon to be ex-husband, Steven and the owner of a vandalized door, Eisen Renner. The reader becomes involved in the characters’ personal problems, fears and their resolutions. This is the third book in the happy ever after series by Elise Noble. As the series indicates, this is a happy ever after.
Cozy up with your favorite hot beverage and a blanket – this one calls for sneaking away from your chores and just sitting still for a nice read. It is a novella, so a quick read, and well worth the time. Janie is a mother with young children, facing all kinds of everyday difficulties – not to mention that she has always been unlucky in love. When her son causes trouble because of a dare, fate gives Janie a shove forward. Is she brave enough to believe in second chances?
Janie and Eis show you that “right person, wrong time” is such a real and painful thing to go through. But when you find them again, it makes everything you’ve gone through worth it. The last 13 years, Janie has gone through the motions and done her best. When her and Eis reunite, the sparks are OFF the charts! You can feel the chemistry radiating off them. I love seeing a tough on the outside, teddy bear on the inside man, and with Eis you get that and more. Love this couple!
A second chance romance that pulls you in with great characters and leaves wanting for the next book in the series.
Janie and Eisen reconnect after Janie's cheating husband blows up her life. With vandalism, miscommunication, and a decade of anger to overcome Janie is uncertain about the future of her family. Eisen has dealt with his own struggles but when Ianie comes back into his life she's the only future he sees.
Janie is a single mum dealing with two boy's and a disruptive ex whose behaviour reminds me of a young boy as well. As I've come to expect with Elise's short stories we have a well crafted storyline with a problem to solve, humour and the 'bad' guy gets his come uppence. This book will be great for when you want a bit of distraction but don't have time to get stuck into a full size story that will distract you for hours. Read while having a relaxing bubble bath or lying in the sun ;)
Engaging Story with Insightful Characters and a Fast-Paced Plot! I am a big fan of Elise Noble's writing style, and this book certainly met my expectations. It's a quick and easy read, yet absolutely worth your time. If you're in the mood for a short, romantic story, this book is perfect. It beautifully explores themes of hope, love, and the courage to follow one's dreams. The characters are well-crafted and insightful, and the plot is fast-paced and engaging. Highly recommended!
A Very Happy Halloween is the third Happy Ever After book. It can however be read as a perfect stand-alone. Janie is having an extremely rough time but a blast from the past is about to turn her life upside down. Despite a slow start this sweet novella was a lovely read with great and not so great characters that I’m sure many readers will identify with. A fabulous hea. I enjoyed this and definitely recommend it.
This is a great quick read for a day at the beach, by the pool, a travel day or you just need to snuggle up with your favorite snack and beverage. Janie and Eisen story is a sweet second chance at romance story. As with all Elise Noble books, there is great dialogue, characters you love, and some you don't, as well as a story that comes together nicely at the end. You can read as a standalone book, but you will want to catch up and read the other books in this series!
This was a super cute novella with a dirty minded, sexy cinnamon roll, a frazzled single mum to two kids who are always up to antics, and a dead beat loser of an ex. Eisen is set on winning Janie back after losing her 13 years ago and Janie is just struggling to make ends meet after filing for divorce. A fun read!
A very enjoyable HEA novella that grips you and keeps you engrossed all the way through. I love the characters, the humour and the romance. I won't reiterate the story, as that is what the book blurbs are for.
Looking forward to the next novella in this series.
It’s a quick cute little lost love story! I love how “Eyes” tries to hide his identity from Janie to begin with, and Ican relate to her troubles going through a divorce and having house issues that need fixing. Being a single Mom is no joke. If you’re looking for a lite quick read this is your book! Can’t wait for the next ones to come out!
This is a cozy and romantic novella! Janie is a single mom with 2 boys, one preteen who is having issues at school, and the other is VERY precocious and loves bugs. This was a great read with an unexpected romantic twist. Very quick read that will leave you wanting more!
Another great read by Elise Noble. Great characters, sweet story, and some funny moments, I couldn't put it down. I would definitely recommend this book. I voluntarily reviewed an advance copy of this book.
This is a lively quick paced story. Yes, it's short BUT more importantly it's good. It's a story that has hardships that are overcome by fate and a large sprinkle of love reunited. It stands alone with only a quick reference to other Happy Ever After characters. Totally worth reading.
I really enjoyed reading this book. I've been reading suspense stories with a lot of tension. This story was just what I needed. Elise Noble is one of my two favorite authors!
It’s always a pleasure to read a new Elise Noble book !! I never get tired of her stories as she always makes laugh out loud with some of her comedy she throws in there !!
