Wartime friends helping each other find new beginnings…
Devon, England 1948
It’s been three long years since East End Angels ambulance crew, Winnie, Frankie and Bella were last together and their former boss, Violet Steele, has plans for a reunion. Will Violet’s invitation to spend two glorious weeks by the sea tempt them all back together again? And what will they make of her surprising secret?
Winnie is now a doting mother of two but finds it hard to relax and make time for herself. A holiday with her friends might be just the boost she needs.
Frankie is at a crossroads in her life. After returning from working abroad she’s desperate to find a new way forward and a job that suits her. Will time with her friends give her a chance to work out what to do next?
Expectant mother, Bella, has a writing idea about their time at Ambulance Station 75, but needs her friends’ help to make it work – and their encouragement to get started.
Forged in the darkest days of the Blitz, the East End Angels’ friendship is as strong as ever, and their support and warmth for each other remains a vital and constant part of their lives.
Award winning author Rosie Hendry lives by the sea in Norfolk with her husband and two children. East End Angels is the first book in her uplifting and heart-warming saga series that follows the lives and loves of Winnie, Frankie and Bella, who all work for the London Auxiliary Ambulance Service (LAAS) during the Blitz. Listening to her father's tales of life during the Second World War sparked Rosie's interest in this period and she loves researching further, searching out gems of real life events which inspire her writing.
Great to catch up with old friends and see how they were faring after WW2 and Station 75. Violet,Winnie,Rosie,Frankie,Bella and not forgetting Trixie the dog which was the stations mascot for so long, are reunited for a holiday. They have problems to work out and a surprise which Violet springs on them. It was great to spend time again with the East end angels didn’t want the book to end. Typically grey writing from Rosie who has the knack of bringing the characters into your life as friends.
Violet Steele with her friends Thea and Rose send out invitations to Frankie Winnie and Bella to join them on a two week holiday in Exmouth in Devon the year is 1948 and WW2 is well behind them working at the Ambulance station 75 in London. She so misses everyone and they could have a good catch up, but this is not the only reason that she wants them all together. After reading this wonderful series of the east end angels I just could not wait to get started, and what a fabulous read this is. Such touching chapters that you feel so much love running through you, they will always be best friends for ever, enjoying their time together so much the booking is going in for next year, same place Sandcombe House for two weeks for the girls and their growing families. This book is for the East End Angels, women of courage, I enjoyed it so much and gave it big five stars.
I loved the original series and was both happy and sad that it was the last book (happy because it meant the end of years of struggle, fear and worry for millions of people). So when I heard about this book, I preordered it straight away and it was lovely to see where the characters were now in their lives. So while we are now saying goodbye to them again, I’m sure they will appear in the author’s other books. A lovely charming read that is different from my usual genre .
I wasn't too sure if there would be another book so I was thrilled to see it. The story is brilliant the way Rosie has forged the girls futures out, really is a brilliant story, great to read about the girls lives after the war ended. Thank you Rosie for another 5* book
I enjoyed catching up with the girls from ambulance station 75 Each has their own bit of a story from missing their husband or knowing what to do with their love Then there was a surprise from Violet who has invited them all as it has been 3 years since all being together at the same time
I really enjoyed reading the East End Angels series, and it was lovely to discover this! It tied up all the loose end and was a heartwarming enjoyable read! Highly recommended but do read the other books in the series in the right order first
This has been a wonderful series. Rosie Hendry made me feel like I was part of the story. Her writing feels so life like. I recommend this series and plan to enjoy more of her delightful stories.
It was wonderful reading about the East end angels meeting up again for a holiday by the sea. Invited by their former boss Violet, the girls meet up for a week by themselves before husband's join them for the second week and Violet has a suprise for them all.
I was glad to see the friends back together again to discover a secret, to share memories, help each other with their problems a lovely story. I certainly recommend it.
Have so enjoyed this series and feel like I know all the characters .Wonderful heartfelt series would certainly recommend to anyone who likes to get lost in books .
