There are children in need in every part of the world and in every fictitious realm—from newborns to teens. In These Ties We Forge, multiple authors come together to bring you stories and poems about resilience, love, and the power of making connections even in the midst of loneliness and detachment.
An elf with a unique oddity cowers in an orphanage, losing hope of ever finding a forever family. Being chased by Darkbringer ships, a pilot will do anything to protect the baby in his care. A young single mom struggles to make ends meet and faces judgment. When a firefighter receives devastating news, he finds himself holding new life in his arms. Time travel takes a father to the past in order to right his wrongs with his daughter. A young girl collects flowers from each home and person who comes into her life. Two girls are abandoned by their village because of their unique powers, but their story doesn't end there.
May the words within these pages inspire you to forge unbreakable relationships that can transcend any circumstance.
Anne J. Hill is an author who enjoys writing fantasy for all ages. Her love of words has also led to her career as a freelance writer and editor. She spends her days dreaming up fantastical realms, talking out loud to the characters in her head, and rearranging her personal library, which has been affectionately dubbed the “Book Dungeon.”
“These Ties We Forge offers a close-up look to children in need and how we can meet those needs. With stories and poems that dive into topics on rejection, love, loss, and healing, These Ties We Forge is a compelling tribute and stirring collection.” -Caitlin Miller, author of The Memories We Painted and Our Yellow Tape Letters
This is an absolutely beautiful, touching, heart-wrenching collection of poetry and prose. I appreciate that it's such a poignant, short read too. It's a privilege to have my stories published alongside these authors.
I became interested in this book because of the beautiful cause that it supports, but ended thrilled to learn of new authors whose work I now admire (H.L. Davis particularly!). Additionally, I loved the wide array of genres represented across the book - realistic fiction, poetry, dystopian, fantasy, fairy tale retelling, and sci-fi. I bookmarked many quotes across the pages, and even earmarked a poem or two to read to my preservice teachers. The theme of resilience for young hearts is particularly appealing for the novice teacher. Each story offers hope at its heart - something our world desperately needs.
Being an avid but busy reader, I also appreciated how I could read a short story or poem and feel like I had accomplished a reading goal in a relatively brief amount of time.
Overall, I heartily recommend this treasury, not just for the worthy cause it supports but also for the quality content it offers. We need more books like this! A worthy example of “Moral Imagination.”
