Since taking over the veterinary clinic in Libby, Montana last year, Janey Richards has been burning the candle at both ends. She’s grateful she is busy, but there has barely been any time to build a life outside of work. To help pay down her debt faster, she agrees to take on responsibility for the livestock at Libby’s annual rodeo, but perhaps she should’ve thought twice about the added stress.

Although, her personal life is definitely looking up.

JD Watike never thought he’d end up following in his father’s footsteps, but he’s found his stride these past six years as a member of the High Mountain Trackers team. He enjoys the simplicity of small-town living, which has only gotten more interesting since Doc Richards appeared on the scene.

Spending most of the past year patiently observing from a distance, the time feels right for him to make his move.

Or at least to clear up some misunderstandings.

The opportunity presents itself sooner than expected, when the pretty veterinarian stumbles onto some serious criminal activity at the Libby Roundup, and a young woman disappears from the grounds, he has plenty of cause to stay glued to her side.

HIGH DENSITY (High Mountain Trackers 2nd Gen) by Freya Barker is the third action-packed romantic suspense in the 2nd Generation quartet of books in the High Mountain Trackers world. This can be read as a standalone story, but there are carryover characters from other books in the series since the Trackers all work together. I have read and loved them all and recommend reading the series in order.

JD Watike has been interested in the new veterinarian for a while now, ever since she arrived in Libby to take over the clinic for the retiring doctor. He finally gets his chance when Doc Janey gets called to High Meadow ranch to help a horse with a partial breech birth. He is determined to take it slow until the Doc gets hired to take care of the livestock for auction and the rodeo livestock for the annual Libby Roundup and she stumbles onto criminal activity. He is determined to stay by her side.

Dr. Janey Richards has been aware of the handsome High Meadow Tracker, JD Watike, but considers him a player until they begin to see each other. When she discovers criminal activity involving the cattle up for auction, she and JD alert local law enforcement and the FBI. The danger they are in escalates as quickly as the chemistry between them.

Besides the danger at the roundup, young women have gone missing and later found assaulted and dead. JD and Janey get pulled into this investigation, too. Danger is all around them. Are the cases connected or is it a strange coincidence?

I love this series and was very happy to see JD finally step up and start a relationship with Janey. Janey is a strong heroine who stands up for herself and while she appreciates JD caring for her, she does not tolerate him making decisions for her or her life. She wants a partner, not a boss. There are a few intimate sex scenes which I felt were appropriate to their growing adult relationship, but I never felt they were gratuitous. The intertwining crime/mystery plotlines were fast-paced, intriguing, and kept me guessing and quickly turning the pages to see what happened next. I am looking forward to the next book in this quartet which will finally give me Jackson’s story.

I highly recommend this exciting addition to the High Mountain Trackers 2nd Gen series!

Another awesome book in the series! Man, did I love that Janey was a realistic heroine. She’s tough, independent, a hard worker and described as average size. And then JD dealt with the typical family dynamics we all have in our own lives. It’s just nice to read about a more realistic couple. Add seeing most of the characters from the original series and this book was a fantastic read!

What a great read! I loved JD and Janey. This author has a way of developing character relationships in a way that feels real. That particular talent shined in this story and I loved every moment of it.

As JD and Janey grow closer together the danger and drama expands around them, which of course is the heart of the story. Along the way there were moments that had me turning the pages as fast as possible or adding another few pages more when I needed to set it aside. This introduced a situation that was new to me and if I weren’t captivated before, I was totally hooked at that point. What the heck? I never knew!

The steam level between this couple is high. So high an historic snowstorm that swept the south was not enough to cool me down while reading it. I also enjoyed the side story that involved JD’s family. It felt genuine and something that many readers could relate to. And of course there are all the side characters that add another level to the story making it all the more entertaining. This couple’s story wraps up but the author gives us a jump start on the next book.

JD and Janey just made to my favorite list. This story was intense. Between the storyline the romance was absolutely incredible. A shocking mystery that puts our couple in danger. These alpha males are protective but a strong woman can keep them on their toes. Outstanding edition to one of my favorite series.

As always, I adored the book. I just love these books, I don't know what the author puts in them.
JD had liked Janey for awhile and just a chance to be with her. So he took gained courage and asked her. And as theh say, the rest is history. He was protective and so into her, love that.
Janey was an independet woman who didn't like having people telling her what to do. She liked JD and she didn't waste an opportunity to be with him too.
I always like the suspense part of these romances, there's always something more and I love it

Once again, Ms. Barker has managed to create a compelling and completely captivating story that had me enthralled from the first chapter to the last page! JD and Janey are two of my favourite characters in the High Mountain Trackers series, original or second generation!

I loved everything about this one! The intense suspense when women start going missing (and are found dead in similar fashion), the very real "found" family vibes between all the members of the High Mountain Trackers team that Ms. Barker does so well, the attraction between JD and Janey grows so organically, even though JD has had his eye on her for a long time he waited for his opportunity to ask her out just as things around the small town of Libby (and Janey!) start to heat up....just like the amazing chemistry between these two!!!

The I-didn't-see-that-coming conclusion had my jaw dropping and my heart beating! High Density is a MUST READ and I would give it 10 stars if I could!!!

I liked the mystery of the book but it did seem as though the romance of it all was more of the side story and not really fleshed out enough. I wouldn't label it a romance novel as much as it would be a mystery in my opinion. Still good though. 4 stars

HIGH DENSITY is the third instalment in Freya Barker’s contemporary adult HIGH MOUNTAIN TRACKERS HMT G2 erotic, romantic suspense series, a second generation spin off, set in the author’s HIGH MOUNTAIN TRACKERS series. This is thirty-eight year old, veterinarian Dr. Janey Richards, and thirty-four year old, rancher JD Watike’s story line. HIGH DENSITY can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story lines is revealed where necessary.

NOTE: Due to the nature of the story line premise, there may be triggers for more sensitive readers.

Told from dual first person perspectives (JD and Janey) HIGH DENSITY follows two pathways. Dr, Janey Richards has been asked to serve as the resident veterinarian for Libby’s annual livestock rodeo but from the outset animals becomes ill, die or go missing, and Janey is determined to find out why. With the help of local ranched and a member of the High Mountain Trackers JD Watike, Janey calls in local law enforcement and ultimately the FBI, that will place a target on both of their backs. Meanwhile, several local women are missing, and eventually found dead, and the annual rodeo is the perfect foil to hide a killer’s activities.

The world building follows the building relationship between Janey and JD; the search for a killer; and the possibility of something more nefarious taking aim at the livestock and cattle. While Janey discovers the how and why, law enforcement must begins an investigation in the who and where.

The relationship between Janey and JD begins as friends to lovers but the start of their relationship is mired in a misperception and misunderstanding. Janey is a bit of a workaholic, as the only local veterinarian in Libby Montana, and the overwhelming number of cases is questionable at best. As JD begins a slow seduction of our story line heroine, Janey must come to terms and accept that there is more to JD than meets the eye. The $ex scenes are intimate and passionate without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and test.

There is a large ensemble cast of colorful, energetic and familiar secondary and supporting character including the return of Sloane and Dan, Jillian and Wolff; several members from the original High Mountain Trackers series-Jonas and Alex, Jackson, Sully & Pippa, and Bo; JD’s sister Una, and their parents James and Ama; FBI Agents Shane Wilcox, and Stephanie Kramer; Sheriff Ewing; Janey’s assistant Frankie Bastian , and veterinarian student Logan Osborne. The requisite evil has many faces.

HIGH DENSITY is a story of power and control, secrets and lies, betrayal and jealousy, family and friendships, relationships and love. The premise is dramatic and intriguing; the romance is impassioned and seductive; the characters are determined and charismatic.

While I enjoyed this book, as I do most Freya Barker stories, there's an overall tone that diminished the good read. And this is a good read, with an interesting plot and strong, likeable characters who are pretty realistic.

I'm a long-time reader and fan of FB. She typically writes about more mature characters. This makes my heart happy. But I feel like there are struggles when she details the mature female leads. Their age often comes up, along with numerous internal dialogue descriptions that make the female lead seem much older than her age. For example, at around 13%, Janey is talking with JD and denigrates herself about her advanced age. She's 38. 38! OMG. She is also fairly obsessed with her body size. She does say that she's quite strong and fit but continues to mention her size theoughout the book. As usual, the male lead, JD, never mentions his age, or size, or anything other than hugely complimentary descriptions of his awesome body. I'm not sure if the author is trying to characterize her female leads as typically insecure or what. It feels like she brings up these things in a negative manner when there is NO NEED. Sure, place the characters by describing them, which can include their age. But there's no need to perpetuate female stereotypes when the female character is a mature, successful woman who has caught the attention of numerous male characters because of her awesome personality and overall package.

Because of this, it feels like there's a slight fog of sadness around Janey. This doesn't come from her background or family experiences. It seems centered on her references to age-related things and/or her size. I don't understand this.

I've noticed in many Freya Barker books that there are the same kinds of issues around age and body size. I actually stopped reading her books for a while because of this pervasive stuff, particularly an emphasis on pregnancy over 40, which FB can really fixate on in some series.

For most readers, this probably seems a minor thing and picky on my part. Maybe so. But it casts a filter on the story. There is an odd feeling here that the female characters are a lot older than they are described. I'm not sure if it's dialogue or descriptions, but it's something. I'm a big fan of mature characters, but I have a problem when that comes with a side dish of ageist tropes.

I was also a little confused by JD's $exual standoff. There didn't seem to be any justification for his numerous teases then back-off behaviors. I didn't care for the light it cast on Janey, like she was too desperate. It felt a little weird.

The next book in this series does sound interesting, and I'll probably pick it up. Here's hoping there's a better balance.

This is book three in The High Mountain Trackers HMT 2G series and it is Janey and JD’s story and definitely a must read. Janey has taken over the veterinary clinic in Libby Montana which keeps her busy while helping her pay off her debts and now she has taken a extra job at The Libby Annual Rodeo where she will be responsible for taking care of the animals which means more money and even though she is exhausted and so busy she wants to do a good job. JD has spent the last six years being a member of The High Mountain Tracker Team which is following in his father’s footsteps and living in the small town of Libby also gives him a quieter life. When girls start to go missing and ending up dead the trackers need to find clues so that they can not only find the person involved but also bring them to justice for the families. Janey and JD start to spend a lot of time together and the chemistry between them is so strong and when they give into it sparks fly all around them and they can’t seem to keep their hands off each other but when Janey is at the rodeo she stumbles across something and that is when she becomes a target but danger is closer than they know and while JD tries to stay by her to keep her safe there are other things at play and that is when Janey is kidnapped and they need to find her quickly before time run out and also find the person responsible while also trying to keep everyone safe but time is running out and they need to get to her before it is too late especially as JD wants a future with Janey and he is not going to let anyone take it away from them. Janey and JD were so perfect together and for each other and I loved there interaction and also how they worked so well together and the outcome was so perfect for them. I absolutely love this book and it had so much action that had you on the edge of your seat wondering what would happen next. I couldn’t put this book down as the story pulled you in right from the start and kept your attention throughout the whole book while having you turning the pages to see what would happen next. I can’t wait to read more books in this series and by this author because her books are definitely worth reading.

Janey and JD’s story is a reverse age-gap romantic suspense that warmed my heart as well as kept me on the edge of my seat. Both are dedicated to their jobs, constantly in motion and find it difficult to say no when it comes to work. While family is important to them both, they are also dealing with some family drama. Janey and JD are well used to living alone, and being in a relationship hasn’t been on their radar in some time. As the new veterinarian in town, Janey has met JD several times in his role as a ranch hand on the High Meadow ranch. They are not exactly on friendly terms, in fact she finds him to be aggravating and arrogant, though that is about to change.

JD has seen Janey in action, acknowledged his attraction and he is finally ready to take action and ask her out. Janey doesn’t shoot him down, she does tell him she doesn’t know when she would find the time. She has just been recruited to be the veterinarian for the annual rodeo in town, and between that and her practice, Janey barely has time to sleep and eat. JD is nothing if not determined and persistent, so he finds ways to spend time with Janey, even if only for a few moments, in order to show her how interested he is. When her work for the rodeo begins, Janey is surprised to find JD is there too to help her in any way he can. When they uncover something is seriously amiss, it is JD who is there to offer her support and protection. He continues to do so while an investigation begins, putting both of them in danger. He sticks close to Janey, easing her fears, offering support, encouragement and solace when necessary, and she does the same for him when he becomes the number one suspect in another investigation. Despite their growing feelings for each other, the Fates seem to be against them. Will they get a chance to build a future together?

This thrilling book has my highest recommendation.

Janey Richards spends all her time and energy on the rural Libby, Montana vet clinic she bought last year. Caring for large and small animals is her passion; her 5'8", 192-well distributed pound, healthy frame enables her to live that dream. Janey grew up on a farm and is no stranger to hard work and long hours. But with little time for anything but work and wanting to pay down her debt, she takes on the offer of livestock work at the annual Libby rodeo. And she's oddly surprised to see a local cowboy taking notice of her. Janey considers herself plain - he's extremely good looking and doesn't hurt for company.

JD Watike left his game warden job six years ago and joined the High Mountain Trackers team with his father and friends back home in Libby. He enjoys the simple life which has gotten especially attractive since "Doc" Richards moved to his small town. JD's watched Janey for a while, likes what he's learned, and decides to let Janey know he's fascinated by her just as the rodeo's about to kick into gear.

He gets his chance to get close to her as JD helps Janey secretly check the safety of livestock owned by a man previously charged with animal cruelty. Discovering criminal activity at the rodeo soon involves local law enforcement and the FBI. With manpower stretched thin, a young woman from the rodeo turns up missing, and the HM Trackers are called into search for her.

JD and Janey are stunned at being suddenly thrust into the dangerous race to capture the criminals before they disappear. This isn't how JD wanted to get close to Janey.

I've read all of Freya Barker's books and loved them. It's impossible to pick out an author's book as a favorite, but the High Mountain Trackers 2nd Gen series is it for me. With each new novel, I ever more thrilled to buy her books!

Loved it. Ms. Barker does not disappoint with JD and Janey’s story. As with all of her books this book keeps you on the edge of your seat through a lot of the book. And although I really like the sexy scenes I appreciate that Ms. Barker keeps them short and succinct. They get the message across to the reader.

For a small town Libby sure gets a lot of action. There’s alway a mystery to solve which is perfect for the great characters she writes. You get a taste of everyone on the HMT yrambut each book delves deeper into each character which I love. I have read and loved every single book in the series so I can appreciate the backstories of each character. I enjoy the fact that their stories continue with each book, if only snippets.

Janey is a big girl and JD appreciates her in addition to the fact that she is the veterinarian for their county and running her clinic with only an assistance to help. Janey isn’t very close to her family but that changes when she gets more involved with JD and is taken into the fold of his family, both blood and chosen. JD lives on his own on his plot of land in a trailer on the ranch close to his parents and job with the HMT and breeding ranch. He is good with animals so he relates to her love of animals and is able they become a team of sorts.

Like every book in this series it keeps you on the edge of your seat with all mysteries and action going on throughout the book. The fact that the HMT team’s headquarters and home is in the mountains of Montana they are often called out in search of lost hikers year round. Some ending tragically and some suspicious.
Looking forward to Jackson and Stephanie’s story. Especially since Jackson was injured while active duty. It has been a long road for him so I can’t wait for his HEA.

This is the 3rd book in the High Mountain Trackers 2G series featuring JD and Janey's page-turning action-packed, mysterious, romantic suspense full of twists and turns that will keep you on the edge of your seat from the very beginning until the end. Janey has been working nonstop since she took over the veterinary clinic in Libby last year. She's very grateful to be busy but that doesn't leave her any time for a social life. JD never imagined that one day he would follow in his father's footsteps after all he was a game warden. Until he returned home a few years ago and began working at HMT where his father works as well and he really feels like he belongs there now. JD is also looking at finding love he's been interested in Janey for quite a while and he finally gets a chance with her when they call the vet to High Meadow ranch. They need Janey to help them with a horse with a birth that's partially breech JD is willing to go slow with her to give Janey some space since she is independent. Janey is aware of JD she felt and she saw him watching her but she thought that he was just a player. Everything changes when Janey is hired to care for the livestock that's up for auction and for the rodeo at the Libby Roundup. Janey somehow manages to come across criminal activity leaving JD intent on staying next to her. I don't want to say anymore and ruin it for anyone else with spoilers. You really need to read this page-turning action-packed, mysterious, romantic suspense full of twists and turns that keep you on the edge of your seat waiting to see what happens. I would definitely recommend reading this book.

We are back in Libby, Montana, where the second generation of the High Mountain Trackers are making a difference and finding love on their way. These are menm that like their fathers, have in the past either served their country or worked in law enforcement. As their elders, they track and rescue locally and for the government.
This time, the story belongs to JD Watike, son of Ama and High Mountain Tracker James.
Janey Richards is the new veterinarian in town, busy with her practice and no time for a personal life.
Meanwhile, JD has been very interested in Janey but it seems just when an opportunity arises, his plans are interrupted.
That all changes when while Janey is working as the Libby Roundup vet, a woman disappears from the area, and JD’s protective side is determined to stay by Janey and keep her safe.
While a relationship between these two starts to blossom, the danger to Janey escalates. Drugs as discovered and another woman disappears. Are the incidents related? Will Janey be the next victim?
Who is responsible for all of it? Is there more than one person involved? What does the FBI know and expect?
This was another engaging story with well developed, mature, likable and intelligent main characters that are perfect for each other. There is also a little drama with JD’s family that gives us a chance to spend time with them as well as other characters from previous stories.
The author delivers a winner and this reader is looking forward to the next story of the series.

With each book I am reminded why I loved the first generation so much. These strong alpha protectors and their strong independent women who keep them on their toes makes for some realistic reading. Both family by blood and found family is what holds this group together.

Though relationships haven't really been on either JD or Janey's list to fill, JD has taken noticed and been waiting for the right time to approach Janey. He is drawn in by her work ethic, her take charge and get it done attitude and her subtle beauty. Watching his friends and partners find that connection has maybe made him a little envious. He certainly has a solid example with James & Alma.

Janey has been so focused on taking over the vet clinic and making it her own that she has kind of turned herself into a recluse the past year. Hardly time to take care of the essentials, let along find some good company. And when JD approaches her, she is kind of shocked and not sure how to move forward.

As their relationship grows the more time they spend together. It just flows and happens, it isn't forced or fake in any manner. That is very refreshing. But when things start to get a little concerning, there is no way JD is stepping back and letting Janey put herself in the center of things alone. He is going to be right their beside her to help protect her.

Another fantastic book with a plot that is on point, a beautiful easy new relationship, a suspense that will keep you turning pages and guessing and a conclusion, I did not see coming. Grab your copy and dive in.

High Density by Freya Barker
High Mountain Trackers – HMT 2G #3

Wonderful way to spend the day ~ Loved returning to Libby, Montana and settling into another wonderful action-packed romantic suspense novel with a couple perfect for one another.

What I liked:
* Janey Richards: veterinarian in private practice, hard worker, busy, takes on an additional job at the rodeo, encounters danger more than once, strong, resilient, rather taken with JD
* James Dean “JD” Watike: ex-Game Warden, works with HMT, enjoys carpentry, good with horses, quiet, strong, protective, wise, caring, good with animals, rather taken with Janey
* The double crimes that are exposed and then solved
* JD’s sister’s thread in the story and how it worked out eventually
* The plot, pacing, setting, and writing
* That I was drawn in, cared about the outcome, and would love to be part of the community
* Catching up with some of the characters from previous books
* Thinking about family and how some are blood relations and others are chosen from outside
* That I was pleased to have the bad guys dealt with
* Knowing that there is another book to look forward to in the series

What I didn’t like:
* Who and what I was meant not to like
* Thinking about how callous and evil the bad guys were
* Having to wait for the next book with Jackson and Stephanie as lead characters

Did I like this book? Yes
Would I read more in this series? Yes

Thank you to the author for the ARC – This is my honest review.

Can't get enough of the HMT world

High Density is the third book in the High Mountain Trackers HMT 2G series. I just can't get enough of this series or books by Freya Barker. The story is intelligently written, is a mix of danger, suspense, mystery, romance, love, community, with a course some sizzle. The story centers on Dr. Janey Richards and JD Watike. She moved to Libby Montana to take over the only vet clinic in the area. She is working hard, building her reputation, becoming part of the community and trying to keep her head above water financially. JD is part of the second generation of the Watike family trackers. He comes from a large family that is well known in the area and part of the community. He also a man who fell in love with Doc Richards the first time he saw her and has been biding his time for the right moment to make his move on her....I personally think he was trying to get up the courage to ask her out. After all she is not all cotton candy and fluff. Nope she is strong, independent, intelligent and knows what she wants and is going after it. So imagine her surprise when JD enters her life when she is all of a sudden in danger, and he tries to get her to do what he wants basically saying it is to keep her safe. Janey however has her own opinions and is not about to let just anyone tell her what to do. It seems these two will be clashing and the heat intensifying on several fronts as they find themselves coming together.

❤️📖 This is the third book in the second generation of The High Mountain Trackers series 📖❤️

This time I start my review with side characters- about Watike family, with this book we get a better inside into the dynamic of them, they are part of this world from the first book of the first series-High Meadow and I always enyoj to read how the life develops.
And Watike family shows a real life problems what makes actually the main reason I love Ms Barker books, she is not playing with ideal and nice but brings real life and problems and still is able to write a great story. And add an always great, unique crime plot and you have a book you can finish in one day.

JD is another member of trackers who is ready to fall in love and finally makes the move to get Doc Janey's attention. But it won't be easy because Janey is no weak and fragile woman, but a strong and independent vet who wants to be treated equal and expects to be respected, something JD may have a little problem when she is in danger and his point of view to keep her safe is not the same of Janey's, so if he wants to have a future with Janey he can't go all caveman around her and believe in her abilities.

I just love this world and stories and can't wait for Jackson's story, I believe it will be another emotional and great story.

I highly recommend to read this book and previous series too, you won't be dissapointed.

Janey aka Doc is one busy veterinarian, between her clinic and the ranches she gets called on, she has little time for herself and now she has been asked to be the vet at the annual rodeo fair and not only that by JD has shown that he is interested in her. JD has bided his time with Doc, the first time he had the courage to talk to her alone, things went sideways, and we he gets another chance he doesn’t want to mess up. Doc is a bit leery, what would a handsome man want with her, she’s older and usually covered in gunk from the animals but JD is not giving up, he just wants a chance and when she relents, he will do what it takes to prove to her that she is worth it. When murders, drugs and weird happenings start around Doc, JD is all in in protecting her and the two find, they have an undeniable connection but the threat is real and when Doc gets caught in the middle….JD will do whatever it takes to get her back.
A great read with suspense, twists and turns, surprises, steam and great characters. I couldn’t put this read down, it flowed beautifully without skipping a beat, with descriptions that were spot on that felt like I was right there in the middle of it all. I couldn’t get enough of JD and Doc, no drama between them…which I LOVED…as they navigated their relationship among all the chaos.

This is book 3 in the High Mountain Trackers 2G Series. This is JD and Janey’s book. Janey is the local vet and JD of course is a part of the HMT. JD has been attracted to Janey for a while but hasn’t been able to take a shot at getting to know her but when the stars align he wastes no time making it known he is interested. Janey is swamped with work and trying to make her new practice successful so when she is asked to act as a on site Vet at a rodeo event she accepts. What she doesn’t expect is to be drawn into a mystery that involves dead animals, dead women, and some shady characters.

I loved JD and Janey, there is a slight reverse age gap but it’s not the main focus of the story. It comes up in a way that isn’t distracting to the relationship. Janey and JD are a great match, they are both at the point in their lives where they are willing to work on a relationship and the organic way they fall for each other makes for a great read. JD also has some family drama and Janey does a great job supporting JD while he navigates that dynamic. I loved the mystery in this book. I have to admit it kept me guessing. I really liked the way it all unfolded and the reveals kept me turning the pages. I have loved all the books in this new series and I can’t wait to see what’s to come in book 4.

High Density is the 3rd book in Freya Barker’s High Mountain Trackers 2nd Generation series. She is taking us back to Libby, Montana and we are getting Janey and JD’s story! You can read it as a standalone but seriously, you should start with the original gang and then read the first 2 books in the 2nd generation universe and then this one … I know I know, you do not have time so start with this one, and I promise, you will be sucked into the vortex and you will want to read ALL of High Mountain Tracker stories and then … you will go down a rabbit hole and start on the other Freya’s books.
So, High Density – Janey and JD – Janey is the new veterinarian who has taken over from the retired one and obviously she is the vet servicing the High Meadow ranch and its livestock … She has caught JD’s eye and he gets his act together and asks her out while also taking it slow … well, all the good intentions go out of the window when Doc gets hired to take care of the livestock at the annual Libby rodeo and they stumble onto criminal activity … bodies are starting to pile up, FBI gets involved and the danger is very very near …
You will NOT be able to put the book back and FYI, Freya always includes an intro to the next book so be forewarned, you will want to put the release date on your calendar!

Outstanding book! They just get better and better. I love both the High Mountain Tracker Series. As always the books can be read as standalones, but are so much better read together. The cast of characters is like visiting with old friends while making new ones.
JD and Janie's story is my favorite to date (which I seem to say about each one :) ) He's a former game warden returned home several years ago to work at HMT, where his father also works. Janie is the newish hardworking vet in town, trying to build up her practice. She takes on extra work which lands her in the middle of unsavory goings on. JD has been watching from the sidelines biding his time. He's been interested in a Janie for a while. He's also busy with HMT as they search for a young woman only to find her body, and not long after another.
Watch the romance of two strong-willed individual play out amidst the mysterious happenings surrounding them. JD is determined to keep Janie safe, but can he get past her independent streak? Written with Ms Barker's usual command of developing characters who could be your friends or neighbors, and her talent for developing suspense. She has a unique talent for placing you in her settings, so you almost picture yourself there.

High Density is the third book in Freya Barker’s new romantic suspense series called High Mountain Trackers HMT 2G. It’s characters are the next generation of trackers. This amazing addition to the series is written in first person from the point of view of both the hero, JD and the heroine, Janey.

Veterinarian Janey Richards has been burning the candle at both ends. But between taking over Doc Evan’s clinic and supervising the livestock at Libby’s annual rodeo she still finds time to spend time with JD Watike, a member of the High Mountain Tracker team. As their relationship blooms so does the drama and danger around them. Drugs have been found at the rodeo and the bodies of several raped and murder woman have been found in the areas surrounding Libby. Will JD be able to protect Janey when the danger hits close to home? Read it and find out.

This book can be read as a standalone, although it has links to the original members of the High Mountain Trackers. Janey and JD are amazing together and they support each other as their explore and build a relationship. I can’t wait to read Jackson’s story next.

I love the second-generation characters, their journeys, and learning more about the first-generation characters from their perspective. JD, like his father, is more silent and observant than the other characters. He has had feelings for Janey, the new vet that we met in the last book, for quite some time. Janey is a workaholic who is burning the candle at both ends with her veterinary practice and restoration of her home. JD decides to make his move and from there, their journey takes them through murder, suspense, family drama, politics, and a “who done it” that makes it very difficult to put this book down. You also have two strong-willed characters (Janey who is very independent and JD who keeps his emotions close) learning how to be in a relationship with each other. Add in Ama, JD’s very demanding mother, Thomas, the grumpy sweetheart who butts in everyone’s business, and appearances by the first-generation Trackers with their pearls of wisdom, and you have a great story that I highly recommend. Ms. Barker has a way of writing that puts you right in the story and its surroundings. It makes me want to move to this town of Libby. This book sets up Jackson’s story and I cannot wait for it.

Janey is one hard working veterinary, running the rural Libby, Montana vet clinic. Jenny is tall and full of curves, who is working and long hours to pay for the clinic that she bought a year ago. The only distraction is JD who is handsome and seems to interested in her.
JD had been a game warden job six years ago and joined the High Mountain Trackers team with his father and friends when he came back home. His life was ticking along until Doc Janey came into his life.
The two spend time together and get closure when the two of them secretly check the safety of livestock owned by a man previously charged with animal cruelty. They also find out about criminal activity at the rodeo. The FBI and local law enforcement are called in. The action does not stop, when a young woman goes missing and the HM trackers are sent out to find her.
JD and Janey get closer and the chemistry between them grows and so does their feelings. The steam between them is hot.

Brilliant characters, both main and secondary. You will fall in love with them all and plot will have you hanging to the very end.

High Density
HMT 2G
Book Three

Once again, the writing of Freya Barker does not disappoint. The characters are so very real that they become family. I know that I became attached and worried about them. The plot line is so intense, with numerous twists and turns, that I was drawn in. I read this book in one sitting as I didn’t want to put it down.

The main characters in this story are JD Watike and Janey Richards. JD followed in his father’s footsteps and is a member of High Mountain Trackers team. Janey took over the veterinary clinic in Libby, Montana. JD has had his eye on Janey for a while and he finally makes his move. Janey takes an extra job at the Libby Annual Rodeo where all is not what it seems. As JD and Janey get closer, so does the danger.

The storyline has something for everyone - family dynamics, murders, suspense, romance and a rodeo. As with Freya’s writing there are questions - who is murdering the women? Will JD and Janey get their HEA?

I would definitely recommend this book, this series … ok all of Freya Barker’s books. I’m looking forward to the rest of this series.

HIGH DENSITY (HMT2G)) Book 3

It is a given that anything I read from Freya Barker is going to great! Book 3 is no exception, in fact much to my family’s annoyance I stayed locked in JD and Janey’s story yesterday until I finished. Janey is a very pretty and overworked veterinarian who took over the old veterinarians practice, lock, stock and barrel including his home and office located on the same property in Libby Montana. She is a big girl well suited to wrangling the large animals she sees in her practice and catches the eye of JD, James and Uma’s son. Along with her vet tech Francine and her veterinarian in training who is in in his final year. Logan is a very bright and eager assistant enabling her to cover more patients. Janey is hired to be the veterinarian at the Libby Roundup and opens a whole can of worms. JD makes his move and things warm up between the pretty veterinarian and himself! I am such a fan of Freya’s down to earth people…ordinary people with foibles, warm hearts and all the same insecurities we all have. Thanks Freya great book, can’t wait for High Velocity (HMT2G Book 4)in May!

This is the third book in this series. They can be read as stand alone books but I think they are better read in order. JD has been interested in Janey for a while but he is finally ready to make a move. Things don't exactly as planned at first but he knows she is worth it. JD is second generation with the High Mountain Trackers. Janey takes after her father as well. He was a workaholic as well. But her personal life is improving with the attention from JD. She is a few years older than him but that doesn't seem to matter to JD so she won't let it bother her either. Then things get interesting when JD offers to help her out while she works the rodeo. They find drugs in a cow and this starts all kinds of trouble. Plus there have been two woman found and then one goes missing from the rodeo grounds. JD is going to make sure Janey is protected at all costs. Will they be able to figure out who is behind this before its too late? There are more involved than they know. This book was a great read. I love the original series and this spin off is just as great. Janey and JD make a great team. It is great getting to read about this next generation. I can't wait to read the next book in the series. Freya is a must read author for me. I love her books.

A romantic suspense where the suspense was more exciting than the romance. The romance progressed without much drama. This is an older woman/younger man romance but the age difference was no more than one or two mentions. There was no miscommunication theatrics. The mystery and suspense were the real vehicle of the story. Enough to keep me turning the pages.

One small issue I had was the ending/set up for the next book.

At the beginning of the last chapter, Janey expressed hurt to hear some news about Stephanie’s leave of absence from the FBI. Yet she did not hear this news directly from Stephanie despite being in contact with Stepahanie many times over the previous months. Janey even tried calling Stepahanie only to get a full inbox. Yet, from Stephanie’s POV, Janie was the one who recommended Stephanie stay in JD’s trailer. Janey even met with Stephanie at the trailer with a box of groceries. These story lines didn’t match up.

I received a free copy from Booksprout. This is my unbiased review.
