another good f/u to the series minimal romance only where necessary, or dudes with multiple wives, no unrealistic scenarios where school kids beat fully trained adult wizards. looking fwd to the next book. good protagonist, with mates that will literally go to hell with him, with heaps of sub plots and secrets like the 80s Dynasty show. two chuck Norris thumbs up

The plot escalates!

This book is a good continuation of the series, with Hump successfully returning to Alveron (ish) with all he has gained in the last book. Though this feels like a middle book in some ways, it is a necessary and satisfying way to bridge the mid-scale conflict of book 4 and the more expansive needs of the larger plot.

Fastastic

I remember awhile back putting book 1 on my list to read. However, it took a while for me to read it as I kept putting books that I thought would be better ahead of it on that list. Then one day I decided to read it and I realized that none of the books I had placed ahead of it were even comparable. I have rarely found a series that has been more intriguing. Book 5 is a continuation of Hump's journey and it is also a continuation of a series that has strong characters, wonderful world building, solid magic systems (yes plural) and solid development. I eagerly await book 6.

At first I felt this was more of a young adult tale. But as I progressed to book 5 and waiting for book 6, I’ve am completely hooked on this series. Slow character development and still some vague but the story is so engrossing that I powered read the first 5 books wanting more. This series is for any age fantasy reader. Read it, you’ll love it. Author has a great ability to make the read flow. Glad I gave a chance.

Excellent

A very nice and welcome advancement in Hump’s growth. Not just in power, but in his relationships and in knowledge. And not just him, but his party as well: everyone - including Nisha - has become … more. Lastly we have a solid reveal on just what the book is and who wrote it. “The plot thickens” indeed. Definitely recommended. Required even.

good but

A necessary part of the story but it did get bogged down in some details. The earlier books were well paced whereas this one fluctuated. The ending was good.the main characters are not always the most powerful. This is a good feature. They are growing and by their own nature. I enjoyed the book but some bits of the war were a hard read.

Maher keeps up a great tale.

Loved this story in the wizard hump saga,hump keeps finding more out about the truth of the gods and the gaining of power. More enemy's seek out his spell book and his friends are still protecting him from his enemy's. A must read along with his earlier novels.

Dear me, you put one star because it would need a full reread to understand the hype again. There are no recaps and no context clues for you to remember because it's a webnovel transplant. If you are bored maybe you can try in the future, I remember having some fun reading it. Maybe you can try if this reaches 7-8 books because thats the pacing i feel it would end. Or dont.

A stark contrast to my last book of 2024, this one (1st of 2025) was well paced and the story moved forward quite a bit. Character development was not neglected, and the book held my attention throughout. If you've made it to this point in the series, this book is definitely worth your time.

I have enjoyed all five of the currently released books and anxiously await book 6. The writing is excellent and not at an early teen level which makes it much more palatable for a larger audience.

This series continues to stand head and shoulders above it's progression fantasy peers in the increasingly crowded genre. The Hedge Wizard stands alongside Cradle and Dungeon Crawler Carl as the best written series available in this particular subcategory, and I cannot recommend it highly enough to those looking for books focused on exploring the bounds of what's possible in this market.

Amazing!

I love this series. It gets better every book.

The main story has some twists and turns I didn’t see coming, there’s great fight scenes and growth of the main characters.

Plus there’s some interesting tensions between them given the events that I can’t wait to see play out!
