Kristin Rae Evans' work, "Small Talk," is a quick but powerful read. This book advises those who do not quite understand the nuances of starting a conversation to build connections. Evans' guidance is particularly beneficial for introverts who aspire to establish connections but face certain obstacles. It takes the reader through the entire process, from planning to implementation. Evans delineates the necessary external and internal elements to cultivate the skills to grow comfortable with "small talk."

I have spent a significant portion of my life being introverted. Whether by nature or as a result of trauma, my introversion prevented me from making the connections necessary to advance to new levels. Small talk has always been difficult for me. Had this book been available to me when I was maturing, I believe I would have been light years ahead. Although it was not available at the time, I now have access to it and will definitely add it on my self-improvement reading list. So, if you are having trouble stepping out to make connections, this book is for you.

There is definitely an art to small talk, and some seem to be naturally better at it than others. These individuals seem able to handle themselves better in social situations, and this skill can help them in both their personal and professional lives. Meanwhile, some people struggle dramatically with small talk if they must ever get to know anyone at a party, work function, or elsewhere.

This book teaches you how to make small talk if you’re not a person who does well in social situations where you need to banter and do some getting-to-know-you interactions with a random cross section of people. These scenarios might seem like a nightmare to socially awkward individuals, but even if you consider yourself in that category, you don’t need to stay that way. With the strategies you’ll learn in these pages, you will soon feel much more prepared to meet some strangers and to go get along great with them.

For us introverts

This book is so helpful. I’ve been in situations professionally and personally and had to either speak in front of a crowd or just one person. The author offers help in both situations. I also read Kirstin Rae Evans’ book “Public Speaking”.

In this book she offers a guide for introverts. She presents a way for us introverts to break out of our shells with confidence. I appreciate the insights offered because I’ve had problems with starting conversations, especially with total strangers. Genuine connections with audiences, building rapport, and leaving positive impressions are important especially in professional settings. The chapter on the “halo effect” was enlightening. I’ll have to give that a try.

You will learn how to communicate to be the best speaker!

It's amazing to me how people still haven't learned how much can be done in the world by learning to communicate and being a good speaker. I assure you that if you knew all the projects that would take you to the top just by speaking and doing it well you would not ignore this kind of books.

This is a text that guides you on the basic principles of communication without leaving aside the most important for me: self-confidence. If you are looking for a book that not only teaches you but also gives you practical exercises for your life, this is the perfect book.

In my opinion, it is a book that should be mandatory in schools and universities for its valuable content. I recommend it!

Really helpful if you’re an introvert

As an introvert, I’ve always struggled with small talk, so I’m glad I came across this book. I think one of the most important things that I learned is to just speak from a place of curiosity about other people. Being motivated by a desire to learn about others. is a great place to start with small talk. Kirstin Evans explains things like the mental preparation that goes into having deep meaningful conversations, how to ask the right questions, how to build rapport for lasting connections, and even how to use persuasive communication. Kirstin has taught me so many different ways to communicate and communicate better.

The best boost

This book really accommodates everything I was looking for. I am new to my job and I was looking for ways to come in as someone different from my previous places, because in those jobs I left an impression of someone I am not used to being. In my personal life I consider myself outgoing, charismatic and astute, but in my professional life I tend to be very self-conscious. That is why this book has given me the tools to take a new direction in terms of how I will be perceived at work.

This book has some really helpful techniques to startup conversations with another person, a small group, or a whole audience of listeners. I know it sounded to good to be true for an introvert like myself. I even had trouble with job interviews. It is a great guide for teaching conversation starters and the like for the person who doesn’t get around and talk much.

I find the book Small Talk very useful for people who find it difficult to interact with third parties due to their shyness.
I like the book because it presents several proposals to overcome this terrible barrier that generates isolation, not only in how to express oneself but also what body language one should present. A necessary book for people who are introverted and suffer from it.
