I wanted to kill Dean MF Connors, I was so mad at him but he got his redemption 😭🖤 they way this book made me scream multiple times from shock, laughter, drama. Such a good conclusion from the cliffy in Batter Up. Dean is a literal cave man lmao I love all the side characters also! I’m excited for the next book with James and Haley!

Quickie Review:

I truly was so endeared by this story. However, this is a tough one to read. I had many mixed feelings about this story. First off our characters really change and in some super dark ways and not necessarily ways that I loved to see. They both sacrifice so much to for justice and to keep their family and loved ones safe from the mafia. The heroine was the hardest because she gets so hard. The only times we really see her soft, is around their little boy. But seeing her having to be so hard just to find justice and then how everything gets revealed just packs such a punch to the heart. There is so much danger and intrigue that are implemented and not everything gets answered in regards to the overall plot of the series. The romance however, mostly gets concluded here. We do receive a HFN here but I do wish that it had been more satisfying regarding the father son relationship. Crossing fingers that we get that in the next book hopefully! But very much in love with how Brittany Ann writes dark romance. Its different than most authors and I find it refreshing and so satisfying.

This was so hard to write without sharing any spoilers!! Let's just say... this was the PERFECT conclusion to the cliff hanger that was left after book 1, Batter Up, and I feel like all of the lose ends were tied up in such a satisfying way.

The Author has done a brilliant job of creating a wide cast of characters who all have depth and a purpose. I emotionally connected with them all, whether that be in hate or in empathy. I feel that this is one of the main reasons I loved this book so much; not only was the plot fast paced and unpredictable, but I really cared about what happened to the characters!

I'm excited to continue the series with James & Haley's story in Strike Zone!

Title: Swing Batter Swing
Author: Brittany Ann
Genre: Romance
Format: Kindle Unlimited
Series: Batter Up (#2)
Star Rating: 4 stars

tw: death, violence, gun violence, child abandonment, mentions of drugs, slut shaming, drugging, injury blood

Since this is the second book in the series, this review is probably going to get a bit spoilery. So make sure you read the first book before you read this review or if you don’t care about spoilers, I suppose you can go ahead and read this review anyway. But I just wanted to let you all know that.

I want to start by saying multiple POVs can be so hit or miss. Often, you can get people confused, especially if they don't have a chapter title. But this book does the multiple POVS extremely well. Every single person has incredibly different personalities so it made it easy to tell who was who. Plus I always enjoy seeing how everyone reacts to different events. I was able to keep track of who was who even when I missed reading the chapter title.

I have to say though, that these characters purposely struggle for no reason. Especially Gwen and Haley. Gwen truly went through so much and I was worried that she was going to lose her humanity. Luckily, she had some amazing friends to keep her with them. But wow, her story was angsty. As for Haley, I have a lot of thoughts about her but that will be saved for the review of the next book. As of writing this review, I have the last book to finish reading.

Overall, I enjoyed this book a lot. I’m happy I got my happy ending with Gwen and Dean. I was devastated at the end of the first book. So I’m glad about that. Overall, I don’t have a lot to say about this but since it was the second book in a series but I did enjoy this book a lot.

After feeling like my heart had been torn with Batter Up, I was thrilled to read this. I will not lie and say I did not stalk the release of this book because I was so invested.

The story flowed beautifully and I got to experience every emotion under the sun while reading this. I cried, screamed, smiled, and laughed.

These characters have so much personality. Brittany did a terrific job with putting this series together. I cannot wait for my second favorite couple to have their own story.

Also because this book is multiple POV I have to say that Brittany did this flawlessly. I have seen so many writers attempt to make it work and just fall short, but not once did I question the way this book was written.

Fall in love all over again and go by this book. I hope to order a signed copy here in the future because I want to display this beauty all over my shelves!

Better than than book two, this had me in floods of tears - fair warning, you will need plenty of tissues for this one, it's heartbreaking.

From reading other Brittany Ann universe books, I knew what was coming here, Dean fakes his own death to go and work with the mafia and disappears for 5 years, going deep undercover with the FBI (Agent Garner who ends up with Hayley) while he's gone Gwen is left with the St Louis streetcrew (lovely Jeremy) to bring up their baby who Dean knew nothing about.

I have several issues with this story, my main gripe is Gwen's reaction to seeing her "dead" husband after 5 years. She manages to hold it together, but then almost shags him in an alleyway, she, quite rightly, is furious with Dean for faking his death, but he (this infuriated me) just keeps saying how he did it for her, to save her, all the people he's killed as been to protect her - like she knew this is what he was doing. She thought he was DEAD! All their friends and family thought he was dead! Where is the apology, the guilt, the remorse and empathy for putting her through that. Instead he's angry with her because she can't see he did it for her!

Then to top it all off, the day after Gwen finds out her dead husband is alive she has sex with Jeremy (again). She is in love with Dean, we know this and while I can completely understand them sleeping together when they both thought Dean was dead, to do it again when she finds out he's alive I just cannot fathom.

Of course they make up, she tells him about Jeremy and the baby she had with Dean which he knew nothing about (I really thought he'd assume Aiden was Jer's so actually happy not to have that extra bit of heartache) and this whole scene was the best in the book. Dean's heartbreak was so painful.

Finally, poor Kay! She's abducted at the beginning of the book and all anyone keeps saying is, how she's strong, she'll be fine, she'll turn up. She nearly died! I was so looking forward to Kay and Col's story, but I didn't even recognise Collin in this, I couldn't reconcile that monster with the put together Col, head of the mafia who adores his Karina. I'm sure it will all come clear when I read their book, but honestly, I'm dreading it.

This is also another one which needs re-proofreading, the typos drove me absolutely insane!

I didn't *love* Batter Up but I did still enjoy it and there was enough in it to want me to keep going and I am beyond glad I did because I LOVED Swing Batter, Swing. I loved revenge Gwen so so much. Her tenacity, her strength and her attitude is everything. I thought the multiple POV was going to get confusing but it was essential to getting all sides of the story and I'm glad it's written this way. I didn't fully believe in Gwen and Dean's relationship or was that invested in it in BU but SBS had them setting up camp in my heart. I think I enjoyed this one more because it's a little darker, it's grittier and everyone in it is more badass because they have to be. SBS Dean could drag me into an alley anytime and I'd say tyvm sir, same time tomorrow xo

Brittany had me feeling everything for everyone (idk how Collin is gonna redeem himself but I'm trusting Brittany). The multiple POV also helps set us up for the following books and I cannot explain how excited I am for James and Haley's book. James has had me in a chokehold since BU and I am desperate to see Haley find happiness and realise that people DO stay if they love you enough.

Ugh. I'm so happy I kept going with this series cos I have a feeling it will only get better and better with each book.

beautifully written

This second book in the Batter Up series was EVERYTHING!
Let’s just say I picked it up furious at the ending of Book 1 and here I am crying happy tears as I just finished this one.

Action packed, tear jerker, second chance romance…. Well if you’ve read the first and you’re about to start this, you’ll know “second chance” is really about 5th chance! We will see who gets it right as we go into the 3rd book and brand new release!

I swear these books feel like you’re watching an actual movie. It’s so vividly described, the connection with the characters is one of a kind, to the point it just plays out in front of you. The transitions into all the different drama scenarios, heartbreak, love, and forgiveness are so smooth and perfect. It has you waiting in anticipation for what happens next and rooting for everything to end up perfect!

I love Gwen as the strong female character and her relationship with Dean. It’s just so comforting and worth all the stuff they have to go through to end up where they belong.

“What do you do when the universe keeps pitching hard balls at you?” Dean Connors, the love of my life grinned. “You fucking swing.”

OBSESSED (!!!) doesn't begin to describe how I feel about this new book by Brittany Ann. I received an E-ARC copy of this upcoming release -

Gwen is a badass, independent woman who has been thrown one too many curveballs in the last decade. Now, moving to a new city and starting over in order to execute her revenge has a fire under her that had me on the edge of my seat with every turn of the page. She's tough, and after losing it all and having to find a new reason to live, she's on a mission and won't be stopped. From getting multiple jobs to survive in NYC to wiggling her way into the heart of the mob scene that took away the love of her life - Gwen plays at her life like it is a strategic game of chess. Old characters and a couple new - you cannot help but getting tied up in the side stories - Collin, Kay, Haley, and James are all in need of their own books (fingers crossed!).

Spicy scenes are laced so flawlessly with suspense that your heart is always racing during this read, so settle in for a ride!

Sports Romance,Second Chance Romance, Multiple POV, Murder, Revenge, Series

⚾️As always check the trigger warnings

⚾️ Quick Synopsis: Gwen is out for revenge and nothing will stop her from getting what she wants after 5 year of waiting. However, unexpected situations and people keep getting her way, will Gwen get her revenge or fail at her mission.

⚾️Liked: I could not stop reading this book just like the first in the series. I finished it in a few hours instead of sleeping last night. The strong independent female main character Gwen was well written yet again!Seeing how much she has grown was phenomenal. The side characters really helped the story along and their growth was also a great addition to the story/plot. The twist and turns of this book kept me on my toes and at times I was speechless. This is definitely a dark romance that you should not miss out on. I preferred the second in the series to the first and can not wait for the next one!

This book was a rollercoaster. Short and sweet review because I'm onto the next but OH MY GOD. The twists and turns of this book. The revelations. THE REVENGE.

Who knew Gwen Davenport could get even better?! Collin Stevens is a snake. A lapdog. A WET LETTUCE 🥬
Any words to describe him currently are not accurate enough and will get me banned.

Witnessing Gwen try and put her life together after the events of book 1 is nothing short of miraculous.

Onto book 3 I go ...

'Every soul that I have taken. Every drop of blood that was spilled by me. Every cut or bruise that my hands caused. Every cry and scream I drew from the mouths of my victims. It was all for her.'

“What do you do when the universe keeps pitching hard balls at you?” Dean Connors, the love of my life grinned. “You fucking swing.”

Let me just start by saying the plot twist has my jaw on the floor! I love this series because it’s fast paced which is a plus for me. I’m currently starting the third book in the series! I can not wait to finish this series! When the plot twist hit I was so mad and confused at the MMC. If you’ve read it you know. The character development was amazing.

Summary:
After someone from there past has offed Gwen’s fiancé in front of her she’s seeking revenge 5 years later and will ☠️ who ever gets in her way.

Read this if you enjoy:

I don’t know what Brittany Ann is lacing the pages of this series will but the fact that I have devoured the first two books in A DAY should tell you everything you need to know.

I’m so glad that we got to see Gwen continue to turn into even more of a badass than she was before. That ending scene with Ray and Tony will live in my head rent free. But for me personally, I would need my man to grovel a little bit more after what Dean did. Do I understand why he did it? Of course. Is it taking me some time to forgive him? Yes.

Dean. This man went from being on my absolute sh*t list/would fight in a dark alley to getting his redemption. This man is the peak “touch her and 💀” trope and I love him for it. Hearing what he went through with Ray has shattered my heart. My sweet, broken man. I will never get over his reaction to finding out about Aiden. 🥹

Overall, 20/10 because baseball x mafia is a genre I never knew I needed. Cannot wait to read Haley and James’s story next.

3⭐️ - I am interested enough to keep reading but the overall story so far has just been okay. This was marketed as a dark sports romance and honestly reads way more like a mafia/revenge story.

We leave off the last book on a massive cliff hanger, Dean is “dead” and Gwen is devastated, and pregnant. I could see the resurrection coming a mile away, it was all just too quick and too straight forward.

Gwen’s new revenge plan was somewhat surprising but not entirely considering she practically watched her fiancé die in front of her. The time jump is necessary for the story but also just made it feel disjointed.

I’m interested enough to keep going but honestly just overall not super impressed with the story.

No spoilers. Read on Kindle Unlimited.

After the cliffhanger in Batter Up (book 1), I had to start this right away! Although everything that happened in this book HURT ME, I absolutely loved it. I did not expect all that to happen and the shock and drama had me so lost in this book, I forgot I was reading at times because my emotions were WILD. This one is hard to sum up so you won't be spoiled, so I will just leave it short and sweet, you need to read this and feel all these emotions through Brittany Ann's writing, because WOW! This one will have you so hooked and not wanting to put it down until the end.

Would I recommend it? YES! If you are okay with the trigger warnings and want a dark romance, you need to read this series.

"This was us--a broken mirror, but God, how we shined in the light."

This one is hard to review because there are so many factors from Batter Up that factor into this book and I refuse to give spoilers.

Swing Batter, Swing starts five years after Batter Up ends. Gwen has taken charge of her life and is out for revenge which leads her to NYC where she basically leads two different lives to get in the right place at the right time. Honestly, that is about all I can say without giving away major spoilers (although I believe the blurb makes mention of stuff I will not).

All of the amazing friends and found family Gwen had in book one return in book two and things get complicated...quickly for a few of them. Brittany definitely throws out curve balls left and right with this story and I had to make myself stop reading at one point because otherwise sleep would not have been had for me. The plot is so very engaging and had my mind trying to figure so many things out.

This duet was definitely a rollercoaster ride of emotions. Gwen's resilience completely shines in Swing Batter, Swing. Any fan of mafia and sports romance should absolutely pick this duet up.

Good lord. I did not like most of the plot. The amount of trauma and damage that was done to the poor FMC because the MMC faked his death to go deep undercover was just annoying. He already left her for 4 years in book one to "protect her" and promised he'd never leave again. Promised he wouldn't walk away. Then he goes and does it again. For 5 years!! And she is just an empty shell grieving him. And she was pregnant, which neither of them knew yet. So he missed 5 years of his son's life. The amount of crap these two suffered for not being involved with anything having to do with the mafia and how this all started was frustrating. Could've been a better storyline. I didn't want to forgive the MMC for about 85% of the book.

Firstly - again with the bad grammar and editing it just made me have to re read pages and I felt like it look me a while to read. Secondly - The series it promoted as a baseball series but I feel like there is no bog baseball aspect, yes the MMC is a pro baseball player and the mafia controls the league but that is it, there is no baseball POV, no games attended and no other players really mentioned. Thirdly - I loved this book, editing and low baseball aspect aside I honestly loved this and if the editing was better it would have been a 5 star read. I couldn't put it down and again I immediately had to start the next one! I am so glad the Dean, Gwen and Aiden got their happily ever after - kinda.

What a wild ride! Swing Batter, Swing had me absolutely speechless. I hit a point where I couldn’t put it down. I had to know what happened next and next and next! After being surprised and slapped with the cliffhanger in book 1, book 2 takes off 5 years later where Gwen is at the point where she is going to initiate her revenge plan and takes off full force running until she is smacked with a HUGE roadblock she could have never seen coming and I was absolutely blown away. Things are super confusing for her until truth comes to light and it all begins to become clear….On my way to jump head first into book 3. Strike zone … here I come!

I am ANNOYED that I put off reading Swing, Batter, Swing for so long. I had been putting this off as the ending of Batter Up is not an ending I typically enjoy but my god am I glad that I eventually continued on reading the series!

The ideas that Brittany Ann comes up with for the plot are absolutely amazing, I could not put this book down and finished it in less than a day! I have never read anything like the BU series before!

I loved getting a more in depth look into the characters and the multiple POVs throughout the book really helped me understand each character a lot more than I already did! Again, multiple POVs is usually something that throws me off as I do tend to find it confusing but Brittany Ann somehow manages to write it in a way that is easy to follow and adds more to the story by doing it! I honestly don’t know how she does it.

Again, the spice was IMMACULATE and the ratio of plot to spice was absolutely perfect for me - the perfect 60/40 as Brittany would say lol

Highly highly recommend this series even though I am only 2 books in - I am so hooked!!

This book absolutely broke my heart.

I MIGHT have been an emotional mess while reading, but its totally fine. I survived.

Swing Batter, Swing takes place 5 years after Batter Up, and everyone has changed. Gwen is harder and colder than before(due to what happens at the end of book 1), and Dean has physically changed but he is still the same lovable guy under the hard exterior he has had to put on to survive the last 5 years.

My heart broke so many times for these two, but they glued me back together. I am absolutely in love with them. And I CANNOT wait for book 3.

You really start to love each character and the emotions they go throughout this book could be felt through the pages !! My god the amount of plot twist and angst in this book !! What a master piece, you literally get to witness different storyline and the build up to different love journeys. I am literally RUNNING to read the third one !

This was a ride. I honestly had no idea how any of it was going to turn out and we don't even have a real ending yet! This is the HEA for Gwen. I went into this expecting heartbreak to be honest. Instead of grief, I was hit was just rage. The writing and pacing were just so good that it had me on the edge of my seat with what came page after page. But man, the changes these characters went through, it was like an entirely new cast.

We got revenge; we got redemption. Mostly importantly, we got excellent set ups for the following books in the series.

This is the 2nd book in the Batter UP series and its so good! This is definitely a series that you want to go into BLIND. I did not do any research on this series before I read it and I am soooo glad that I went in blind. If you are expecting a typical sports romance you are in for a treat! I was so shocked. I laughed, cried a lot, smiled, swooned and didn’t want this series to be over! There is twists and turns all over the place and for sure some moments that made me want to throw my kindle.

New Roman Empire?

This book will live in my head rent free for the rest of my life. There is something about Brittany’s writing that just does it for me. It could be the plot. It could be the spice. It could be the platter of plot and spice that is so perfectly mixed and created together to create a perfect harmony of ecstasy…who knows what it truly is. But this book has got IT.

Suspense, drama, multiple POVs… This book was amazing from start to finish. I could tell the author was more confident/ comfortable in her writing because it was a change from the first book. Gwens character did a complete 180, Collin… enough said, and just so much more. I didn’t want to put it down. This second book was everything and more that I could have wanted in a sequel.

This left me with a heart wrenched and desperate for the next one. The angst and the movement in this book.

If you read the first one, I ain’t giving away a lot of the details because one would be a major spoiler. Also one of them had me screaming!! Like screaming so loud.

I wanted to smack some characters and I still want to run over one with my car!!
