Partnered with another friend from the archaeological community, Craig Freeman, they are hot on the trails of one of the most sought after artifacts in history--a lost scroll created by the Greek inventor, Archimedes.
In the ancient city of Petra, what they find is not what they expected.
The discovery leads to betrayal, leaving Sean and Tommy to be forgotten to the shadows of time.
After a miraculous escape, the two must unravel a series of nearly impossible clues to uncover the truth about the lost scroll, and to prevent their mutinous betrayer from exacting his will on the civilized world.
The Inventor's Tomb is book 23 in Ernest Dempsey's USA Today best selling Sean Wyatt series, and takes readers on a wild thrill ride full of twists, turns, and adventure. Along the way, the colorful characters on both sides of the aisle are tested to their utmost capacity, and must discover truths about themselves they never understood before.
Ernest Dempsey is a huge fan of action/adventure thrillers and science fiction.
He has been creating stories since he was in high school but never published a book until 2010, long after the days of high school were gone.
His action & adventure books come from a lineage similar to Clive Cussler, Dan Brown, Steve Berry, and James Rollins. While his science fiction novels are full of influence from Suzanne Collins' The Hunger Games, The Matrix movie, and Gladiator directed by Ridley Scott.
He is quickly becoming one of the hottest fiction authors in the book world.
It has been a long time since I've read a book in this series. I loved the plot and the new person that showed up. I enjoy the bits of history as I read this books
Another excellent thriller with Tommy and Sean. As with all their adventures, the search for another priceless reliec begins innocently enough. This time they have teamed up with Craig Freeman, an archaeologist colleague of Tommy’s, to work together to find the fabled Scroll of Archimedes, rumored to be the directions to develop a type of death ray from the sun. Evidently, Queen Cleopatra was searching for it to have it at her side as a weapon of war against Egypt’s adversaries. As Tommy and Sean immediately find out, friends are not necessarily friends, and priceless relics represent too much power and wealth, and the desire to possess them an overriding force. As with most of these relics, the Scroll was hidden away to keep it safe and away from grave robbers and profiteers who might destroy it or use it for nefarious purposes. As the quest continues, the searchers uncover clue after clue, creating puzzles which must be solved correctly in order to continue; each successful solution leading them closer and closer to their prize. In meantime, on their trail to the prize, they uncover more and more priceless treasures that have been sought after for thousands of years. As with all their incredible searches, the puzzles are not easy to solve and the consequences for failure will result in a horrible death. Another extremely exciting and definitely entertaining thriller. Looking forward to the next in the series.
Sean and Tommy are back in their best adventure yet!
Eureka, while I didn’t run naked through the streets of San Diego, was the word I uttered as I finished The Inventor’s Tomb. It’s hard to believe I’ve been on this journey lurking in the shadows watching Sean & Tommy for nearly 10 years as they experience their adventures. I have to say these adventures never cease to amaze, mesmerize, and entertain me. After 23 books you would think you would know everything about Sean and Tommy, but it seems with each new story each one discloses a bit more of their life as well as reveals the toll their various adventures have had on them. I love how each of these stories is a perfect stand-alone adventure, as well as an excellent introduction to the whole Sean Wyatt series/world. If you enjoy history, action-packed adventure, snarky comments, a bit of lighthearted humor and a few twists and turns to leave you wondering how you never saw it coming, grab The Inventor’s Tomb or any Sean Wyatt archeological thriller and settle in for some Grade A entertainment.
The characters are fascinating and the story-line is great. This would have been a 5-star rating with the exception of the repetitive findings and descriptions of the mysterious places Sean and Tommy end up. They all have ingenious mechanisms and clues to the eventual prizes, and where do those holes end when floors drop open?....and how are they even in existence? The historic points are fascinating and I've even checked out a few on the ancient characters and events. Who knew all this went on without the perserverance of archaeologists and historians? The enormity and ingenious knowledge of the ancient Egyptians and Greeks and Romans is also an entertaining and fascinating study. While the characters of the villians capture your anger and judgement, and justification for what eventually happens to them, their character seems --incomplete somehow. There are holes in their justification for their actions. Wonderful adventure, storyline and historic leavings that Im sure required lots of research and invcestigation. Thank you Ernest for the entertainment!
The Inventor's Tomb can and does rival any Indiana Jones movie our there. If you want an action-adventure book then look no further. Sean and Tommy have been asked by archaeologists Craig Freeman to help him find the fabled scroll of Archimedes, a scroll that could lead them to one of the most powerful weapons ever to be made. Even Queen Cleopatra was searching for the same relic to help against Egypt's enemies.
But betrayal is on the cards and Sean and Tommy find themselves in yet another tricky situation. As the search continues they uncover clue after clue and several puzzles that needs to be solved in order for them to succeed.
The story has some of the best twists, turns, thrills and adventure that I've read in a long time.
Hold on to your pants ladies and gentlemen for you are in for one heck of a archaeological thriller of a ride!
Story line is intriguing, but is written immaturely. The beginning is as if written by a different person. Knowledge of archeology seems good and of history in general, but knowledge of grammar and syntax is rudimentary. Descriptor adjectives throughout are used incorrectly as to meaning. Please use a dictionary and thesaurus: “….ran loudly” is a poor descriptor, & detail through out is sophomoric. At times too much detail is give about things that are not relevant to the story, other times thoughts/ideas are not completed. The agency and what it does should be briefly described near the beginning since this is the first of the series - what IAA does and how it’s used. If you don’t have an editor, get one. At least have a friend read through the story; don’t just rely on spell check.
Thoroughly enjoyed this book. Dempsey’s blend of fact and fiction always hits the mark. Sean and Tommy start off looking for Cleopatra’s tomb and a scroll detailing Archimedes’ great invention. They move from there to looking for tomb of Archimedes. The story moves all around the Mediterranean from Egypt to Sicily and keeps you guessing. Dempsey’s blend of archaeological locations, traps, subterranean tombs, mystery and intrigue make for a great story that keeps you guessing. Tommy and Sean race against enemies who are looking for the same artifact. I have read all of Dempsey’s books so far and can highly recommend this book. You won’t be disappointed.
This time I did worry some about the ending. The old and als the semi new characters made it all so real and possible. I feel and see by everything Sean and tommy do and my heart races as they get mixed up with friends who have their own agenda. But...Tony and Sean figure out what will benefit mankind and not necessarily themselves but all . I just love these good guys . I can't wait until the next book comes out. I'm sorry you have so much research and writing and editing to to and then I go and stay up all night reading it.. Thank you for having such a great adventuretious imagination and for sharing them some freely ( not free but humainly possibly ) my hours absorbed in the book is well I am heartely greatfully. thank you so much.
Craig Freeman a renown archeologist, talks Sean and Tommy into helping him find Archimedes’ lost scroll.
This scroll is said to reveal how to build a device that generates enormous power. This could change everything, with everything that uses power today.
With all of the twists and turns in trying to find the scroll there becomes a betrayal, by someone who wants to gain the scroll for them self. This puts the life of Sean and Tommy in peril.
You will have to read the story to find out all of the adventures that they go through to find the scroll and save their lives. It’s a wild ride that will keep you turning pages.
The Inventor’s Tomb is very similar to other Indiana Jones-ish, archeologist-like, fictional stories. In this novel Sean Wyatt and Tommy Schultz make a surprising discovery in Jordan, which leads them to travel to several Mediterranean locations to find a scroll that hints at how to build an ancient light-energy weapon. What seems to differentiate these archeological-like stories is the amount of research that goes into the story and the quality of the dialogue between characters. In this, the background info on Cleopatra and Egyptian / Roman history was interesting. The dialogue between the main characters occasionally serious, but mostly light-hearted.
The Inventor’s Tomb is the 23rd book in the fabulous Sean Wyatt Archeological thrillers series. It can be read as an exciting standalone. I do suggest that these books are read in order to fully appreciate the characters and their back stories. Sean and Tommy are incredible characters and their friendship is totally believable. I love the trust and banter between them. Craig Freeman, an archaeologist colleague of Tommy has requested their help to find the fabled Scroll of Archimedes. This is hidden for a reason, to protect the world. Needless to say there is action, adventure, betrayal and danger and a fabulous conclusion. I thoroughly enjoyed the book and definitely recommend it.

This was the first time I've read of Sean Wyatt and will now look for more of his adventures, this was a history lesson the whole thing was a big puzzle from start to finish. Sean, Tommy, Craig and Brent started on this adventure together until greed took over then it became a race, Sean and Tommy against the others, the last clue brought in a good friend of Tommy and immediately she was in danger. Cleverly worked out story that keeps you guessing and coming back for more. I absolutely enjoyed it I recommend highly
A sensational Sean Wyatt Archaeological Thriller by Ernest Dempsey, The Inventor's Tomb will have you reading this unputdownable epic from cover to cover...even if it takes all night. The impetuous Sean and his somewhat more sedate partner Tommy Schultz, venture deep into an ancient mystery, that reaches across continents in a plot worthy of Indiana Jones. Along the way they're betrayed more than once by a greedy, unscrupulous former friend and his mercenary side-kick - who of course have a hidden agenda - as they make shattering, history-changing discoveries. There's skulduggery afoot and plenty of thrills for sure, in an adventure with with more twists and turns than an anaconda in a tumbledrier.
Read The Inventor's Tomb and gasp with amazement, shriek at the danger, weep, (sometimes with laughter) and as our intrepid heroes risk all once again, enjoy the greatest archaeological thriller you'll read this year!
Join Sean and Tommy as they race against time yo try and stop a colleague from acquiring a scroll that might just hold the secret to t I he most powerful weapon ever created. Betrayed and left to die by a former colleague these two must race against their former colleague and decipher the clues to find a way to keep this archaeological find from falling into the wrong hands!! This is a definite must read!!
As always, I went into this novel with high expectations and wasn't disappointed. Another Tommy and Sean adventure deserving a sixth star rating. For anyone into historical archeological story lines, this is a must read. I would love to see a new novel with our heroes AND their wives together for perhaps a "vacation turned search". I can't wait for the next book in this series.
Another "Raiders of the Lost Ark" adventure with Sean Wyatt and Tommy Schultz. This latest adventure was well crafted and more fun to read than normal. Usually, Sean and Tommy spend way too much time acting like 15-year boys bickering and making sarcastic comments directed at one another. I much preferred less of that behavior and hope Dempsey is maturing his characters. I love the historical themes of Dempsey's books and look forward to each installment.
Ernest Dempsey’s books are getting better and better. I enjoy reading about Sean Wyatt and Tommy Schultz’s escapades. This book keeps the reader wondering where and what will happen in the story. The descriptions of the various places they travel to are very enlightening. This story of looking for a secret document on how to change the world and the steps that are taken, the secrets and mysteries of the various areas keep you reading. It’s a good book to read.
Tommy and Sean are at it again, another great adventure . Starting in one country following clues to other locations and countries. The villian, unfortunately, is a fellow archeologist, who has dollar signs dancing in his eyes. Craig and his "security" follow Sean and Tommy trying to get the scroll and they don't care who gets hurt, dies or kidnapped. A great read. Another great adventure. Love those two guys especially their snark. Thank you.
I have always been a fan of Sean & Tommy, but this story was the best installment I have ever read! I love how Me. Dempsey takes a bit of truth to make a skeleton & then fleshes it out to a living, breathing adventure! What Egyptologist has not dreamed of being the one to find Cleopatra’s tomb or the Hall of Records! There is non-stop action from the beginning to end! The only question is will Tommy & Sean live to see the fruit of their work?
This book feels like strapping into a rollercoaster through history every chapter propelling you faster into danger, discovery, and deception. From the blazing deserts of Petra to the shadowy corridors of ancient invention, Dempsey crafts a world where intellect meets survival. The pacing never loosens its grip, keeping readers breathless as secrets unravel and loyalties fracture. It’s a pure, escapist thrill ride that satisfies both the adventurer and the historian at heart.
This latest adventure for Sean and Tommy finds them in the middle east mainly in Egypt. As usual there are villains aplenty and Tommy meets up with an old frenemy. If only it was real life and they found the tombs that are mentioned in this story. As usual there are clues for them to decipher and traps to avoid. An easy read.
What a great read. If you like action from one page to the next, this book is for you. I love the two main characters in this series of books. Their long time friendship. And their snarkiness to each other. Make all of these books fun and light reading. I hope this series of books will continue. I always look forward to the next one.
Sean Wyatt and Tom Schultz find archeological treasures, along with a newly corrupt colleague, and plenty of danger. Tommy finds an old colleague who got angry with him twenty years prior, and finds himself responsible for the trouble brought onto them all. Ernest Dempsey does it again, creating a great story with a fantastic historical perspective.
A book written by Ernest Dempsey never fails ...I really enjoyed reading about the latest adventure that Tommy and Sean found themselves a part of. I learn so much about history with each book, as well as being entertained by the suspense, intrigue, and excitement of a good storyline.
Love these books. The search for lost treasures and the bad guys trying to steal the glory or just to steal and sell for money. The race is on and Sean and Tommy keep the faith and search for history. To know that there are still archeologists still struggling to find answers to our world history is so inspiring.
I loved it from the first page to the last, except I hate to see it end. The historical information and the architectural details and the details of the puzzles they solve are incredible. Once again I was awestruck and swept away by the action and humor. Thank you Mr Dempsey.
I have enjoyed the Sean Wyatt books very much. They not only are full full of fun and adventure, but learning things that trigger me to go search for more information about the things talked about in the book Ernest Dempsey as a good writer his books are fun to readand reread
A very interesting look into the life and times of Cleopatra and Archimedes. The adventures continue with a lot of action and chaos. I thought there was a bit too much time spent on describing interiors of houses, units, caves and museums as it got a bit distracting. Good read though
as always, Tommy and Sean have a blast while finding rarer buried treasure. They escape from a variety of challenges and bad guys as always.
I love the history that is presented in the inventors about Aristotle, Egypt, and Rome. I always learn from Ernest Dempsey's novels, and look forward to the next the series.
